Summary

Phara needs some sword grip material to repair her son's sword. The material can be found in a tent in Davoi. Once repaired, Phara wants to give the sword to her grandson.

Walkthrough

Begin this quest by speaking to Phara, who is standing at J-9 in front of the residential district of Bastok Mines. She will request some sword leather.

Next, head to Davoi to find some sword leather. Search the orc tents at K-9 and K-10 to find a hidden flap, which randomly appears throughout the area. When you examine the hidden flap, two notorious monster orcs -- Gavotvut and Barakbok -- will appear. After defeating the orcs, you must search the area again for the hidden flap. Examine it again to receive your sword leather.

Return to Bastok Mines and trade the leather to Phara. Wait one game day and speak to her again, and she will give you a key item, Yasin's Sword, and ask you to give it to her grandson Naji.

Find Naji, who is standing outside the president's office in the Metalworks. Talk to him to receive your Razor Axe.

I just solo'd this quest as a 60Pld/30War. I wanted to kill them quickly, so I used a meat mithkabob, and swapped rings earrings and neck piece for puissance ring and courage ring, beetle earrings+1 and spike necklace. Built up 300tp killing orcs around the tents, cast a cure II which filled my HP and popped a yag drink. Then I spawned the NM's.

I didn't try to move at all just fought them there. I used my 300tp vorpal blade for about 800 on Barakbok. I fought him first since he hit more often and cast a lot. Gavotvut missed a lot so I saved him for second. He used mighty strikes at about half HP, so I just popped invincible. The fight lasted about 6min, and I finished with 146HP and 6MP. Niether of them hit hard, but they both have a ton of HP. I used Vorpal several times on each of them for 570-800 each time and my average hit was 100-120.

I wouldn't recommend soloing this below lvl 60. A nin or rdm could probably do it at a lower level, but it would be a very long fight and with all the spawns in the area that could be trouble.

From what I've read, you can possibly do this solo by activated the flap, and finding the other flap and warping out.. so is it possible for me to do this with Powder boots? Enchantment flee is useful, so I guess this would be the place to use it.

I have done this quest, you can't spawn the NM's and then search the next flap, because the next flap only spawns once the two NM's have been killed. So the whole Flee thing wouldn't work.
My Experience with Quest

I did this quest today using my dark knight. Here was the party set up.

Kujata Server
Tsuyuko(me): 50DRK/25WAR
Roe : 60DRK/30THF
Rastayellowmon : 64MNK/32WAR
Raisuzu : 40BRD/20WHM
???? : 54WHM/26BLM
TDogg : 56PLD/28WAR

So basically what we did was killed a bunch of Lizards before hand to build TP and had Raisuzu cast Ballad and Paeon on us so we don't lose TP.
I spawned the mob, and Roe hit Souleater and LastResort while i voked the DRK and Tdogg got behind it and hit a SATA Guillotine on it for some 1300 damage. Then I hit spinning slice and managed for a Fragmentation Skillchain. Rastayellowmon did some crazy *** Dragon Kick and i don't know how much that did. Plus the random bashing from the Tdogg pld guy. We had the drk dead in no time.

After that we just had Tdogg tank the warrior one and we just finished him off by sitting and watching our melee swing our swords at him. Roe hit another Guillotine and Rasta did another Dragon Kick. Was over in 5

Went with pt of 5, 50war/nin(me), 41 rdm, 51rdm, 55pld, 5X mnk.

Battle went easy, cleared out all orcs, opened flap, killed the nms with ease. I dont think we even needed the ppl we had, i was drawing super hate and pld couldnt take it off of me, i didn't 2hr, but it missed me most of the time, and the times it hit me, Utsusemi took care of that! I realise that this quest is geared for lv 40. But it was easy. Even helped kill the NM for Rdm AF twice after this with ease.
Id like to thank the postings and site for the info that was available!

This is an easy fight. I solod it with my pld, at the time I think I was 62. Didn't use food, juices, nothing, in fact I think I didn't even have on protect. These things have terrible accuracy and just couldn't hit me. Of course being a pld I hit pretty weak so it took somewhere around 7 minutes to beat both NMs plus the links I got.

I was wondering if it seems possible to do this solo as THF. I'd use powders to get to the tent flap, of course. Then use Perfect Dodge, touch the tent flap, use Flee and find the 2nd tent flap, then just hope to make it out to zone before the huge train catches me.

I'm assuming I'd be able to cancel Invis and use Perfect Dodge without an Orc aggroing in those 2-3 seconds (so the train would be just a little shorter). Any thoughts?

I'd rather fight the NMs with a party, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get enough ppl in short notice (and I want to do it very soon - 300tnl). Ragnarok server.

*** Edit ***
Hmmm. Forgot about the DRK 45 possibly using Bind, Sleep, or Stun. That would make it not such a good idea. Anyone have exp with this orc casting those spells? (Or other mid-lvl DRK-type mobs?)

Hmm good idea. Killing the Orc's was fun, but creative playing like that is right in there with what this game was made for. If the other hide flap spawns without the NMs dead, then shouldn't be a problem.

Good Luck!

I am wondering If a lv 73pld could go with a lv 40 war and get by fine. my friend Mugmug on titan server helped me get my AF lance. Im just asking or should i get another tank or DD to help with.

hey i know mugmug..i may not be too high level but i think that youd be ok...a pld that high should be able to handle themselves aight...

Sorry to stray for this thread's purpose, but I'm curious as to what this rampage is that unklemonkey said he used as a war/nin.
RE: dead ^^

Rampage is an extremely powerful weaponskill, obtained at 200 axe skill. It can only chain Scission (or Distortion).

wish i had read here about the solo way to do it :/ i wouldnt have run them to the zone to avoid a train, but maybe could have insta warped out of there. i assume if you have the quest started you can go there as another job? rdm/blm and chainspell+warp would be perfect.

anyway, doesnt matter because i had loads of fun fighting these guys ^^ i just did it as 43 warrior, took a 55 paladin to tank them and a 49 red mage to heal and try to sleep one. i was a little worried since there were only three of us, but it worked out great. cleared the area and got to 300% tp before we started, then when spawned the paladin voked and unloaded spirits within on the first one. fighting both of them took a little under 5 minutes because my warcry timer was not quite up when the second one fell. red mage did walk away a distance and convert mid-battle, but in the end we all came out of it in the white for hp and yellow for mp.
Soloed this..... :)

Well, I'm sure that someone has done this aleady but nobody mentions it here so here goes.

I am a 52 WAR currently and I soloed this quest. I went to davoi and after an hour of searching I read about not really needing to kill the orcs to get the leather. So I said what the hell and touched the flap. the orcs spawned and I ran around until I found the other flap and tried to touch it. But the orc hit me and canceled the event. I zoned and let the orcs reset. I went back into the zone and looked around. Where the Hide flap is there is a loop east that just goes around a corner and comes back into the same area. There were several people there that were taking care of the orcs in the area so I went to the flap and touched it. As soon as I could I started to run for that loop and ran around with the NM orcs following. If you can get out ahead of them enough you can get back to the flap and examine it before they hit you. Obtained: sword grip material. As soon as you get it book it for the zone.

I was worried about the damage I would take I used defender and a fish kabob the first time but the second I just had the fish kabob active on me. After getting to the zone I had about 3/4 of my HP left so it wasn't that bad. just disappointed that I looked for help for several hours for this. Now AF2 :)
FINALLY!

Yay^_^

Just did this the other night with a few LS friends on Ragnarok server.

BLM 33 BRD 37 RNG 47 WAR 40(me) and a random 60+THF

We charged in, cleared the area and hit the tent. I entered, and came out. Immediately the 2 uglys spawna nd start wailin on me. THF SaTa's one and grabs attention. I hit it until the other gets on the BRD, so I voke it off and the THF then finishes off the first. We kill the next one, and I examine the hide flap.

Got my leather. Went back to Badtok, waited an hour and got the sword and gave it to Naji.

Won't give a spoiler, but the cutscene was awesome.
*goes to try out new Razor Axe*

This can be done in a similar fashion as the Monk's AF2 quest.

When the WAR tags the flap, have a higher level player get both mobs off the WAR, then have the WAR find the second flap, and they get the item.

My 40WAR/MNK friend and I 50MNK/WAR did this, took about 5 minutes. He popped the orcs, I chi blasted one and slapped the other around for a second, then I ran to zone, he got the sword leather and warped.

I can confirm that this does indeed work, and would like to thank dainslaif for pointing it out. I (50war/17blm, lol) and a 50pld/war went to do this. I examined the hide flap, and the PLD got hate from both of the orcs, popped invincible and headed for the zone. I quickly found the other one, obtained the leather, and warped out behind him. Quite easy, and I doubt that the PLD even needed invincible.

i got my AF1 awhile back ago but thought iwould post my experience
was a 40war/20mnk at the time
saw a 71sam/35thf seeking in Davoi so i asked him if he would help me and said yes
went and found the tent flap, no orcs around so i examined it
thw two NMs spawned and they both aggroed me immediately
by the time the Sam was able to get aggro off of me, i was down to 250hp or so, from i think 700 or so
from there it was smooth sailing
he started on the warrior NM and finished him off
then a 60mnk/30thf walking by wanted in in the fun so i invited him
then they just switched off with SATA on the dark Nm and was dead really quick
all the mean while i was just lvling my Gaxe skill on them
went back to Bastok, waited 24 hours VD time to get my AF1

Well last night I got AF1, went with myself a lvl.50War/Mnk, lvl.50Drk/War, lvl.50Pld/War. Before we left I bought 6 X-Potions since we had no healer, should have bought some Au-Lait's as well but I thought I would be fine. So we get there and the PLD knew exactly where to go since he had been to Davoi multiple times because he was from Sandy. We got to the tent flap with no problem. It's not actually called a Tent Flap it's called a Hide Flap but hey no biggy. N E Ways, we get there and we eat our foods that we need, found out that the PLD had forgotten his Fish so I gave him some of my meat chiefkabobs. I activated the hide flap and here they came. The original plan was for the PLD and I to take down the Warrior since he was a higher level while the DRK took out the DRK Knight Orc. Instead I ended up fighting the Warrior by myself. Let me go ahead and say that these things have A LOT of HP, I have a high amount of Dex so I was getting critical hits left and right for over 200 per hit but it was barely taking him down. My Keen Edge's were hitting for about 500-550 each time. Next thing I know he is at half of his life and is using Mighty Strikes, so I counter and kick in Mighty Strikes of my own. By this time the PLD was not getting the hate off of the DRK so he came to help me out, but there was no way he was getting the hate off of me either. We were beating the living crap outta them until 5 other Orcs came from behind and aggroed. We killed both of the NM's but since the others had been hitting us as well they eventually killed me and the DRK. The PLD dropped about 3/4 of the way through battle because of a popup. When he came back he called for raise for a High Level WHM, the WHM cast Raise 2 on both of us and the hide flap had moved. So since we had beatin it, I activated the next hide flap and recieved the key item. I took it back to Phara at 20:00, went and fished until about 1:30 the next day, and it let me pick up the sword. Looks like if u take it late at night u just have to wait for the day to roll, not a whole earth hour. Got the cut scene and I thought it was pretty cool that it showed the history of Vanadiel a lil. Lookin forward to AF2 ^^.

Just helped a friend from my LS do this.

We had way more then needed for it. PLD75 and me as RDM59.

Fight went smoothly, managed to not have too much linkage if at all, PLD took the stronger WAR while me and the WAR41 friend we were doing this for took the DRK. WAR was almost dead by the time me and WAR finished the DRK orc.

One bit of advice, only one set of ppl can be doing war af1 at a time. If another PT is already doing it, you have to wait for them to finish.
