Summary

The Tenshodo is gathering expert thieves to its fold. Carry out your orders by handing the Tenshodo envelopes to the appropriate people and having them sign the documents within.

Walkthrough

Start this quest by talking to Nanaa Mihgo at J-3 in Windurst Woods. Next, head to the Tenshodo headquarters in Lower Jeuno; to get in, you will need a Tenshodo Invite.

Just inside the HQ, talk to Harnek for a cutscene in which you and several other thieves are given envelopes and sent out to find old members of a legendary band of thieves. You are told to find a galka thief in Selbina.

Head to Selbina and talk to Elfriede at J-9 in the Shepherd's Muster Inn. In a cutscene, the thief Sneaking Tiger appears and says you must prove you are worthy by bringing him a Quadav Stew. The stew can only be stolen from certain quadavs in Beadeaux, including Garnet Quadavs, Silver Quadavs, Zircon Quadavs and Bronze Quadavs. Using thief as a subjob on a different high level job works ok for stealing the stew. Once you get the stew, return to Selbina and trade the stew to Elfriede for another cutscene with Sneaking Tiger. Then head back to the Tenshodo in Lower Jeuno and talk again to Harnek. After the ensuing cutscene, you receive your Marauder's Knife.

Went as a 70RDM/35THF. Dia pulled a Silver Quad from up top and move it close to zone so it wont link. All i did was slept it and tried to steal from it, if it failed i just sat there and waited till recast time was over. Slept it everytime it woke, and stole from it when i got the chance. on my 9th try, i got the item!

Sorry too hear so many of you people have problems. I go farming in Beadeaux quite often and get that item at least 2x a visit. I usually get it from Zircon Quadvs at the slime spot "Dodge earring" mobs. Silver quadvs also drop them "well steals them". I usually kill Zircon to get spells too sell too. I just started lving thf so went there just to get the item again and 1st Zircon mobs again. I threw away like 30 before that. Well I hope this helps u out.
p.s. I don't camp there anymore

Just completed this quest last night, some intresting things to note -

1/10 on Stew, I went solo as Drk/thf, it was 29% moon. Like most things with SE I believe it just takes time and eventually you'll get it. Got Power Bow drop while I was there added a whole .2 seconds of {excitment}. I stole it strait in front of the mob, got tired of sleeping running behind and stealing... not my style anyway. I do see a strong corelation between moon phasee and chance of steal tho. Please excuse my horrific spelling =)

Ok i tried this as a 39thf/19nin, tried 3 times no luck i even died once. so when i home point i ask a friend to help me and he says to go as my rdm, so i go as 75rdm/37thf. When i get back i see a silver quad and instantly blind it, when it comes over i cast sleep 2 run behind it and steal. I got the stew first try. My int on my rdm was 64 +28. So if you guys have a higher job with more int use it it works lol. If not just find a friend that can sleep a few for you or voke it. G/L all.
total luck

This drop is luck based. Here is my scenerio:

Elvvan male hume
thf42/nin21
int 37+5
** after about 20 tries at stealing with no luck, read about key ring belt, quested it and got it **
I used melons for int bonus as food, and would sleep mob and steal from behind.

after 10 attempts with key ring belt on I got tired and went to bed. logged back in after sleeping ( 7-8 hours ) zoned in to beudaux, and stole stew from first mob, a zircon quad.

Durning my tires, I talked to many ppl online and got many different responses which lead me to belive that this is just luck, either you get it fast, or you don't, kinda like coffer key hunts.

don't know if int really effects steal, don't know if food helped, just glad it's over and I must say I'm disappointed with the knifes stats, I have dex, agi, and acc up the *** anyway.

But we all know af weapons are mostly usless anyway regardless of job.

Getting the Knife

After eventually getting Thief to 40 I deceided to try this. Went first as 67 DRK with THF subbed and spent the better part of 2 hours with absolulty no joy. I tried every approach; first beating them down to less than 10% health, then sleeping them, then getting behind them, then stealing. I tried standing straight infront of them with out engaging and stealing. I tried beating beating them almost to death and stealing without sleeping. I failed every time!! I did however lvl my enfeebling magic and got a scroll worth 30K.. So not a total loss.

I deceided that this approach was not working, so I got some sleep bolts and came back as THF 41 with NIN subbed. I cleared out the noob Copper Quadav and pulled a Bronze down from the area on the right as you enter Beadeaux. (I was surprised to find out that these, Silver included, conned as Easy Prey.) I put it to sleep and tried to steal from behind - once again No Joy. I flee'd out because I couldn't be bothered fighting it.

When I went back in I pulled a Silver Quadav down from the same area. I tried to sleep it twice but my Marksmanship obviously needs a bit of work, so I just hit my "Steal" macro and hoped for the best - and in true FFXI-nothing-ever-makes-any-sense style, I was successful!!!! The Quadav had zero damage, it wasn't asleep and I was standing right in front of it!

Sleep 'em

Ok, so i was 0/7 for just stealing from the front of the quadavs... i kept pulling them down from the ledge, attempting steal, then fleeing out. But i never got anything... so, i tried to pull a garnet, shot it with an acid bolt, let it get close, shot it with sleep, it linked an old quadav, no big deal, ran around behind it, and stole the stew... so 0/7 just straight up stealing, 1/1 for sleeping it and stealing from behind... btw, atm i am an elvaan lvl 40thf/20nin int is at 34+1. hope this helps someone!
My experience
# Jul 22 2006 at 4:25 PM Rating: Decent
I tried several times stealing.. But result was failure, I didnt have sleep bolts so i couldn't hit them from behind. Then I asked a BLM for sleep after 4 tries i did it.
Tip!

I spent about 3 hours trying to steal the stew with no luck. The message kept reading "Malidar fails to steal anything from the Silver (Garnet) Quadav." I'm an Elvaan Theif. My INT was 35+1 at the time. Knowing that "steal" is based on intelligence, I bloodwarped back to Jeuno, bought a melon pie then went back to Beadeaux. I ate the melon pie giving me a INT of 35+9, pulled a Garnet Quadav and got the stew on the first try. That's my story... hope it helps someone else in the future. Good luck.
Maybe it's luck....

This quest was annoying only because you have to run all over the place. Windurst, Jeuno, Selbina, Beadeaux, Selbina, Jeuno. Even using WHM it was a pain to travel. Easy quest though.

For those of you who have trouble stealing... take this advice:

Pull a Silver or something tougher from the upper area right next to passhow zone. Once they are down there, switch to SLEEP bolts. Put it to sleep, run behind it, steal from behind. That greatly increases your chances (being behind it. Not sure if sleep actually changed the rate). You could also sub BLM to do this. In any case, doing this should save a lot of headache. I don't even bother stealing unless I can be behind a mob.

Good luck!
steal won't work unless mob is weakened

i was 0/28 or so, all alone, saw a thf and a rdm come in, then leave, i was so angry so i asked her if she just stole and zoned and she said yeah, she told me they got it half health and she stole from behind, me, i just /ra <t>, flee and then steal'd and zone

but it never worked so i grabbed a silver and got its health below half and it worked!!!!

went at this as soon as i hit 40thf. subbed 18nin at the time. wearing a Key Ring Belt, which adds Steal +1. went into the first sliding door and found 2 Garnet Quadav, who both aggro me. i steal on the one directly in front of me and get the stew, and then flee out of there. very easy, but it might just be the Steal +1
Bronze Quadav.

Took me a good hour at least to get the stew, personally... But after trying MANY times on Silver, and a good number of times on Garnet, I went after Bronze Quadav. I got it from the second one I pulled off the ledge.

Now for a lot of running around... >.>

I got my stew on first attempt. I went to Beadeaux solo tonight on my whm72 and subbed my thf(which is lvl 40). I cast dia on a Zircon Quadav from the shelf to the right just inside zone gate, when he came down I hit 'steal' and ran around behind him and just as he turned I stole the bowl of Quadav Stew off of him! Very easy quest.
