In-Game Text

Keal : We pirates call the cave connectin' Norg t'tha mainland the "Sea Serpent Grotto." Just like there be beastmen on tha continents, tha grotto has its share of slimy dwellers. Namely, the Sahagin.

Keal: And t'make things worse, those nasty little beasts have filled tha place up with trick doors so ya can't get t'tha deeper parts of the cave.

Keal: We used t'have a vault down there, but nobody's been able t'get close to it fer years.

Keal: 'Old on there. Yer that adventurer, PlayerName, everybody's talkin' 'bout. Perfect timin' there, matey. I need a hand.

Keal: That storage room I jus' mentioned--I need somebody t'go down there and fetch me a sealed iron box. Unless the Sahagin have thrown 'er in the sea, she should still be down there.

Keal: Don't think I'd ask ya t'go down for nothin' now, would ay? There's a pretty penny in it fer ya, if yer interested.

Asks Question:

Accept Answer: Keal: Spoken like a true pirate! Just go down t'the storage room and bring back the booty. It be as simple as talkin' candy from a baby.

Keal: I'll be waitin' 'ere for ya.

--

After completing:

Keal: That's what I was lookin' fer! Now, when openin' these, ya gotta be careful of traps. Ya do this...then turn this...then wiggle this...then...

Keal: Arrrg! Its contents are still intact after all these years. Oh yeah, yer reward. take this. It'll come in handy on yer landlubbin' adventures.

Obtained: Scroll of Tonko: Ichi.

Description

Speak to Keal to start this quest. He asks you to go into the Vault that was taken over by the sahagins. After you agree, head out of Norg with your trusty Silent Oils and go past the first unmarked gate. Head straight and vear to your right when you have the chance. Follow the passage aiming for the north west corner of the map. You should pass 2 more unmarked gate doors and several ghasts/oozes. (Everything is sound agro, don't worry, just don't run directly into their model) When you come into a broken down room with a boarded floor, you're there. Check the "Iron Box" object in the north east corner of the room, it's below a rack. Return the object to Keal (it's a Key Item, just speak to him) and he'll hand over Tonko: Ichi, the Ninjitsu Invis spell.

yep like Nethesem said
just follow the right wall and you are going to be just fine, and if you are lvl 60+ you are just fine w/o snk also map is not needed for this little walk.
Need higher level than level 1, maybe level 30 or above?

Hi guys, I tried to get the quest (as well as Utsusemi:Ichi quest) as level 1 job, coudln't get it. I changed my job to level 30 THF and got it. I hope that helps! :)
Directions

Just did this as a 65SAM- no hassle at this level.

My norg fame is either 3 or 4, riceballs are 160, but I'm not yet being offered Utsusemi Ichi.

Easy directions:

Walk out of norg, and follow the right hand wall all the way,

That's it.

You will pass through a total of three unmarked stone gates- the 1st is the norg one, the second is around the Slimes, and the third is the door to the vault itself.

As the description says, you'll see a broken wooden floor, and there will be an unmarked ??? in the middle of the room.

All mobs on the way are sound agro- there are no Sahagin around this bit, just skeletons, slimes, and leeches.
Easy

Chainspell's link below is great. The map is really helpful! With the map, I did the quest as a lv 1 rdm with silent oils and prism powders. In fact, I believe that the prism powders are unneccessary because most of the monsters, if not all of them, aggro to sound.

The requirements for this quest have definitely changed. I leveled up a mule's fame to 5 to get tonko and utsi which I had sold long ago when i had no interest in NIN and now my lil taru mule can't get it :( I don't know what the requirements are, but I'd assume its either being nin while talking to to keal or laisraen, or being of a certain level, 30 maybe.

This probably has something to do with it:

notice the bit about repeating quests to obtain the rewards.

"Well if it isn' [Name]. Hear yer name lots 'round these parts lately. Why, I remembers when you was nothin' but a measly insect. Thanks t'me advice, you're doin' quite well here in Norg. "

This is for lvl 4 fame, acording to online.

Yet i cant get jubaku, utsu or tonko.

My rice ballw as at 153

I really dont get this any ideas.?

Asking how many items you need for fame is different for each individual. Depends on how many quests you have done already. Each type of quest varies in the amount of fame earned. You will need fame to be even higher eventually so why not just work on it while waiting for pt or just dont know what else to do. I always suggest to my ls to work on fame from the beginning instead of waiting til needed. At this point it really becomes a chore to most.

Right after unlocking the NIN-job with the help of a higher level PLD I found to my surprise that I could start both this one and Utsusemi. My rice-balls costed 161 so I expected to spend a few more evenings chasing worms or yagudos.
I ran out with a level 1 job (PUP I think) and a few oils that I had left after Aht Urghan but smeared on the oil at the wrong time and place and one of the ghasts got me just outside of Norg, lol.
I don't remember when I tried oil and powder the first time, but it has always been with a little bit of hesitation. They wear off random. When you get the second warning its very hard to stay calm and find a good place. Not that losing exp is the end of the world but it can be annoying if you have to travel far to try again.
But now I have been sneaking through many places, Oztroja, Davoi and the Aht Urghan-areas and I must say it's getting better and better. I think the new Aht Urghan-areas was a turning-point. Sea-serpent Grotto was a sundays-walk compared to that. And with just sneak I first used my 20WHM to get Utsusemi and when getting this scroll I used my level 1 PUP again, not because I was afraid of loosing exp but because I wanted a fast transportation back to Norg...

And now with NIN past 9 there is new possibilities: 20WHM/NIN and sneak+tonko:ichi. I'm gonna go back to Davoi soon again for those sandals you can quest there. Or is Tonko:ichi weaker somehow than Invisible; it seems more reliable with exactly 3 minutes but is the invisibility strong enough?
If there is no difference it is great for Aht Urghan areas too, I haven't done any quests or missions there yet beside BLU and PUP.

P.S. And if you look up "Power Sandals" here you can read my little report on how it went. 20WHM/NIN is like made for those sneaky jobs!

I just headed to Norg so I could finally complete the Sam quest(Started it 4-5 months ago...) and decided to see if I was able to do any other quests while I was here.

With the price so high, I did'nt think I was going to be able to get any of the quests, but I was able to get the Hojo, Kurayami, and of course, Tonko quests.

The directions here were pretty spot on. But really it is pretty simple. If you dont want to risk death, just switch to a low level job(For me, Bard, my deathwarp job) and head out with a few oils. I only needed two(One actually, but I was being cautious). Of course the timer for Oils is pretty random so more may be needed.

After seeing the price for the scroll, I was tempted to sell it, but luckily I did'nt. Nin is at 17, and it does seem a bit ridiculous to not have Tonko at that level.

You sure you only gave 46 necklaces? I'm trying to decide between the necklaces or the zinc ores.

I've given 20 necklaces so far, which only took me about an hour. Tried for Zinc ore, but in 30 minutes, I only got 1 drop >_<

read what he wrote: not 46 necklaces... 46 turn-ins.

this is the same problem as raising fame using the Selbina quest for corn, cabbages and moss... the only thing that matters is HOW MANY TIMES you complete the repeatabel quest. not the number of items you hand in.

therefore, 4 necklaces X 46 repetitions of the quest = 176 necklaces
what exactly counts as norg fame?

quests for the tensodo in jueno and brugaire consortium (spelling?) count as norg fame to dont they???

RE: how mcuh fame
# Jan 21 2005 at 11:47 AM Rating: Decent
Well, having done the ninja scroll quests with 2 characters, I'd put a lot of stock into the riceball price in Jeuno. Basically, keep doing the zinc or necklace quests till your riceballs are down to 153 in lower jeuno (i prefer necklaces myself). At that point, you'll have enough fame in Norg to do all the quests.

Also, make sure you've obtained a Tenshodo Invite (either by the quest or from the AH) and have become a Tenshodo member. A player in my LS forgot to do this, and couldn't figure out why his riceball price didn't drop after about 30 necklace trades. I don't know if not being a Tenshodo member would affect your ability to trigger the quest, but it doesn't hurt to become one.

Hope that helps

Riceballs do reflect your fame level, only problem is that the seller is a guildseller, so the price of riceball is effected by how much riceballs was purchased and sold yesterday as well. So if no one buys any riceballs or sells any riceballs for a day or two, that would be the accurate price.

One more post regarding rice ball prices. I joined the Tenshodo and completed the Ninja quest. After this my riceball price was 171g, this was with level 7 fame in Sandy and level 6 in Jeuno and Bastok. After trading in 140 necklaces, my riceball price was at 163, and I could get the Tonko-Ichi quest, but I could not get the Utsusemi. So now I'm going to go do the zinc ore for a while, but I just wanted to let everyone know it doesn't necessarily HAVE to be in the 150s.

I went to Norg when Riceballs were 158, I didn't have enough fame to get Utsusemi, I did the quest where you trade 10 rusty Subligar and the one where you trade 10 rusty leggings and that gave me high enough fame to get the Utsusemi quest. If I remember correctly after completing those 3 quests riceballs were 153.

This ones easy, just get 3 silent oils, switch to a lvl 1 job if you have it and set hp in norg. Head out and after the first door, keep following the wall right like the directions say. You'll eventually come to the room you need, 2 more doors before it. Examine the ??? get the box and death warp back to norg. Theres a lot of safe spots you can stop at to refresh your sneak if you need to.

i did this as a 52 mnk and i almost died by an EP ooze? then when im healing...

did you know ghast can open doors?

i didnt which killed me.

oh, btw, the ghast was also EP.

they seriously need to fix that. i dont want to check, silence, and sneak myself because of "too weak" rabbits in west Ron.... -_-

... but apparantly i need to. Anything can kill you aparantly. regardless of level. -_-

Bah. IF you're willing to spend 30k and have this fame issue resolved in 1hour, first, buy 9 zinc ore. Give one to Talib, then go to Bastok Mines to the lower levels, first house on your left, in the back of the house and talk to Paro%%%? Go back to Talib and he will give your reward. Then, trade him 4 zinc ore. He'll give you 350gil. Trade him the other 4 zinc ores. IF you have blm, use that and set your HP just out by the AH. Warp out, buy 8 more zinc ore -> repeat. You need to trade him about 105 zinc ores. Your fame will drop from 168gil for Rice ball to 155 gil. Took me ~~1h20 hour to complete.

So I finally got this quest after many hours of Yagudo hunting. My Rice Ball price was 161 which from my guess is the highest it can be since i tried at 162 and nothing. Hope this helps.
