Vuntar will pay premium price for rolanberries, but for only those that are thoroughly aged and can serve as food for long voyages.

Speak to Vuntar to begin this quest.

Take fresh rolanberries to the Crawler's Nest and place them in the baskets. Placing berries into the baskets will eventually spawn an NM Drone Crawler, which will drop an aged rolanberry that Vuntar will take.

Good for fame
# Nov 25 2007 at 8:47 AM Rating: Decent
I have tried this quest my self but I did it way too far in advance.
When I 1st did it I was level 50RDM/25BLM.
I went and bought about 12 stacks of rolanberries.
Went to the CN with a friend of my 75RDM/35BLM.

He was the one spawning the Crawler NM, so he would take the entire hate.

At that time there was a 75DRK (1st time I saw a DRK and look so freaking kool)

He help us out finishing our stack we had a lot and it was taking 4-6 of those berries in order to spawn the NM.

Well to make it short the I took home about 4 1/2 stacks of rolanberries 881.
And my friend confirmed it that it was a 1/3 rate for what he heard.

So Then I went to selbina and try to sell the berries but I did not had enough fame.

I went and farm some cabbage, (I was broke and only had less then 2k) I think it took 3 stacks of cabbage in order for the guy to talk to me and take my berries. I can't remember how much exactly he gave me but I think I lost only like a couple 100's gill's.

For me it was enough though because it gave me fame in all 3 cities Sandy, Bastock and Windy.

SO I can't say I made a profit but I can say that it was well worth it.
And in case you are wondering with the 4 stacks that I got I got fame 5.

Especially at sandy since I've done so many missions and quest that barely game me fame 2.

I think it was a fair trade.
OMG WTF!!! SE Come on !!!

GM call
# Mar 23 2007 at 2:25 PM Rating: Decent
I did a GM call on this quest and he told me that the rolanberries were still useful, but wouldn't say what for. I was kind of upset that they changed the quest... I still have about 5 stacks of 881's and a couple stacks of 874's ; ;

I just went to CN to get some berries and profits out of it.
Now this Surprice >,< omg... (word)

Vuntar No longer buy your berries infinitely
# Mar 10 2007 at 7:48 PM Rating: Decent
Square Enix have changed this quest so that Vuntar no longer continuously buy all your preserved berries, to limit the Gil creation in game (wtf, so how can I earn gil now?). This Quest is one of the fair play one for both normal gamers against RMTs which RMTs can't dominate it.

here WAS how it works

you bought a lot normal berries (I bought them from upper jeuno shop near exit)

go to crawler nest, the first big hall you will see an ???, trade a berry to it, it spawns a NM named "Guardian Crawler" but it doesn't come out everytime, the average spawn rate is 2 berries for one Spawn. Defeat it (lv 40 for this one) to obtain one 881 berry, there are another ??? in the first hall in the second map, spawn a higher level "Guardian Crawler" (lv 45) which drops more silk and seems easier to be spawned than the first one.
881 berries are selling for 800gil

using the 881, you can spawn another NM named Drone Crawler, also from 2??? (located in the 2nd map too) defeating it gives 874 berry (the first ??? spawn a lv 50 Drone where the 2nd one is lv 55 << higher drop rate of silk)
874 berries are selling for 2000gil

using the 874 berries you can then spawn two different named NMs with same lv
"Queen Crawler" and "Matron Crawler" both lv 60, soloing now is a bit ineffective from now (I am a lv 75 monk/thf), defeating them gives you
864 berries which sold for 3000 gil

using the 864 berries you can spawn the highest level crawler in Crawler's Nest "Awd Googie" this time it really looks like an NM coz it green in color. it's an lv 65 NM, I tried to solo it and I used 2hr to have a comfort win (need not to use 2hr if I sub nin and my evasion gear on I think, I sub thf coz I need more silk from other NMs). Defeat this and it 100%gives you "Royal Jelly" an ingredient which is a rare drop from other monsters. note that Vuntar don't buy these. "Royal Jelly" are for synthesizing or doing a quest.

Rolanberries, how do I get them?
# Jan 17 2007 at 4:10 PM Rating: Decent
Lost of good info, but I can find out for the life of me where to get these berries? I assume AH, but are they avail from NPC or guild?
# Nov 25 2006 at 12:55 PM Rating: Decent
Wat level fame do you need in order for him to accept the rolanberry 881s? :/
# Jun 28 2006 at 8:30 PM Rating: Decent
What fame level do you have to be before he will give you the quest? I've done like 20 or more quests in Sandy, and I still dont have the fame needed to start it.

Saw that the last post was pretty old, and I've noticed some changes since I last did this quest that I'd like to share:

1. It seems that it takes alot more rolanberries to get this thing to spawn now. It used to be only 2-3 now it seems like 4-6, drastically reducing the profit.

2. They changed it that so when you spawn it, it becomes a NPC and when you get near it it turns red and aggros. This will save people from stealing it when your at the "basket".

Hope this helps you guys out.

does anyone know what places this gives you fame in? I've heard its four places.

Bleh. People are quite content to provoke it before me, when I spawn it. Its rather annoying. Bring multiple rolanberries, because chances are some group will be all to happy to kill it.

On the player guide it mentions that this quest is repeatable, and people tell me that the berrys are sttackable, but can you do this several times and gather more that one stack for more $$$$$$

Rolanberry 881 = 800 gil
Rolanberry 881 x12= 9600 gil
.........you get the idea

Soloin this quest
# Jul 10 2004 at 6:23 PM Rating: Decent
Yah i was a level 47 Monk with a 20 Whm subjob, and I had to use my 2 hour ability as well as all my normal buffs. I ended up with about 300 health left and that was before I used any of my 120 mana points or Divine Seal.

The Guardian Crawler was alot tougher than I thought he would be, and was hitting me for about 60 damage a pop.

As far as activating the quest, all I did was talk to the guy in Selbina, bought a Rolanberry from the AH for 300 gil and then traded it to the basket in the Crawler's Nest. It took about 10 seconds for the Guardian Crawler to start squirming out!

NM spawning?

Are there any additional rules or restrictions on the spawning of the crawler? I tried trading several rolanberries to the basket in the main room and got the message "Nothing happens." every time.

You need to have either this quest, or the souper soup pot quest activated.
RE: NM spawning?
# Aug 18 2004 at 10:00 AM Rating: Decent
Yeah, I had the same problem. The crawlers sometimes wouldn't spawn after you put in a rolanberry. It says "You place a rolanberry on the ground. Nothing happens." How to fix this? The rolanberries that I put down and nothing happened were seemingly lost forever.
RE: NM spawning?
# Sep 24 2004 at 4:15 PM Rating: Decent
If you want to do this multiple times you have to bring a few stacks of Rolanberrys because he dosent spawn 100% of the time when u put a berry in....ive gone through a whole stack trying to get him to spawn ><
RE: NM spawning?
# Oct 12 2005 at 3:24 PM Rating: Decent
There is two messages nothing happens (you just lost a berry) or it doesn't appear that anything will happen (NM is already out dead or not his corpse has to vanish to trade more berries, or you traded the wrong berry to the ???) From my experience it can take anywhere from 1~13 and possible more to spawn the nm. I find that if you wait a few seconds between the trade you will burn fewer berries, So it may just be a conditional timed pop. And popping the NM has NOTHING to do with the quest, since I am able to spawn them without ever activating the quest from the NPC.
on average he spawns and drops about 1/4~5 berries
Guardian Crawler
# Apr 19 2004 at 4:57 AM Rating: Decent
Notorious Monster Guardian Crawler drop Rollaberry 881 and Rollaberry 874 and any other crawler drops. Easy to kill solo to 55. For triger Spawn need trade one Rollanberry to ??? in center room (I-9/J-9) and spawn near tunnel.

If you plan on going to Crawler's Nest yourself, wait till you are around level 30+. If you have enough fame this quest should be activated and you can complete it through the AH, but don't even think of doing all the steps at your level.

Reward update
# Jan 05 2004 at 1:51 PM Rating: Default
Off the top of my head, if you turn in a Rolanberry 881 C.E. you receive 900 gil.

I am not 100 percent sure on this number it I know it was between 600 and 900 gil.

This quest is repeatable, bring back any dated Rolanberry.

Personally tested for Obtain value.
Old Rolanberries
# Dec 23 2003 at 9:44 AM Rating: Decent
<taken from Cook's Pride quest>

(this all takes place in the Crawler's Nest dungeon off of rolanberry)

1. Place a rolanberry in one of the first crawler nests (J-9 or F-8 of map 1).

2. Wait for a crawler worker to swallow the rolanberry and kill it. This gives you a new rolanberry.

3. Take that rolanberry to the nests on map 2 (G-7 or G-8). Wait for a crawler drone to appear and get the rolanberry, then kill it.

4. It drops a different rolanberry. Take this to Map 3 and put it in a nest at D-7.

5. A crawler matron will appear. Kill her and retrieve yet a different rollanberry.

I haven't done this, but looking at the AH, i assume you will get Rolanberry 881, 874, then 864 (repectively) doing this.
