Summary

Collect three stones of frigicite from fiend-infested caverns in the north. Bring them to Maat to further expand your innate limits.

Walkthrough

Activate the quest with Maat in Ru'Lude Gardens. He asks you to retrieve three pieces of Fragicite from Xarcabard.

Once you have activated the quest, travel to Xarcabard. The Fragicite are found in caves at I-6, J-7, and G-10. Each piece of Frigicite is guarded by a NM that has sneak and invisible detect. Simply defeat the NM, and quickly run in and touch the ??? to receive the rewards (key items):

1. Boreal Tiger. The reward is a Round Frigicite. 2. Boreal Coeurl. The reward is a Square Frigicite. 3. Boreal Hound. The reward is a Triangle Frigicite. Be careful, because these NMs have incredibly fast respawn rates (around 15 seconds). You may want to ask the Dragoons in the group to dismiss their wyverns so that you can easily target the ??? using F8 (otherwise you will probably end up targetting wyverns with F8). You will need a large alliance for these, or if you'd rather have high-level help, you will probably still need a full party of high-level players. The monsters are incredibly tough. Once you have retrieved the three pieces of Frigicite, simply return to Maat to complete the quest.

NMs don't have to be killed
# May 11 2013 at 1:45 AM Rating: Decent
I had to help a buddy of mine with this quest. As a party of 2, I was a 73WHM/36SMN with a 55RDM/27WHM. You don't have to kill the NM anymore. You can just examine the ??? to receive the items you need. In the middle of the fight, I just had my friend touch the ??? and receive the items no problem. We weren't able to kill a single one of these NMs, but he was able to grab the items he needed to finish this quest without any problems. Just make sure you have your scrolls of Instant warp to warp back.

Hey! I'm currently 54BLU/27NIN and I need help with this quest. I just recently got back on from a long 1 year break and require assistance. I don't have a single Frigicite so, yeah. Ingame name same as allakhazam user name on the Ifrit server. Just send me a message if you are willing to help. Thanks.

Clarification?
# Jul 22 2009 at 6:54 AM Rating: Decent
So reading this, I assumed there was a ??? at all times. I figure, well I can't use sneak or invis to get behind it, so I'll try some other method of reaching the ??? untouched. So I equip my sprinters boots and a warp cudgel (for once I reach it) and walk to the tunnel that the Boreal Hound is in. I get within sight of the hound and it starts towards me so I walk back a bit... then it starts casting ice spikes, so I run as close to the tunnel wall as I can and get by without getting hit.

Still having the speed buff I run around trying to target anything else but this mob and don't get anything. It starts hitting me and I ignore it because I couldn't solo this (as 54mnk/dnc) and die without ever once targeting the stupid ???

My question is, does the ??? only appear once the nm has been killed, and will it only appear for those who kill it (or are in pt that killed it)... because to me "Simply defeat the NM, and quickly run in and touch the ???" doesn't imply fighting is 'necessary'...

Not sure if you figured this out, but yes, you must defeat the NM in order for the ???'s to show up.

I have done this myself with duo box[2 pc's]All you need is 1x 75 and some kind of backup healing, either the 55 who needs it or the 75 should /dncr or something.I have not done it in a while, but if i remember one or all 3 can use some sort of strong Paralyze,so prolly should have some way to deal with anything like that.
Sorry it has been like 1 1/2 years since i did it,so i can't give a step by step, but all i know is i did it and duo boxing is harder than two players,so you should be fine with 1x75.For others ,i would say a full 55 party could do it,prolly better to have a couple heal possibilities, probably even 5x55 could do it,lol heck i am pretty sure i would attempt it with even 3 or 4,just have to play it smart,/dncr or a main dncr and another form of healing for a prolonged fight.

Hey Its a lie first time went with 1 75Whm/37Blm and 75Sam/37War and whoop all of them of course i was a level 52Blm/26Rdm. Its too easy no big party necessary.

Get up or Get out!
Alliance Necessary!
# Sep 28 2008 at 9:36 AM Rating: Decent
This limit break quest is tough! You will definitely need a alliance of 60+ members in order to do this one. My first try at it we went at it with a party of three 75's and yea we got whooped!

I understand that I obviously can't do this by myself, but I'm curious if you have to be Level 55 to do this. It would be nice if I could knock both G1 and G2 out in one swoop if I find some particularly generous help. I've heard that you can collect the items for G1 before 50, so is this the same?

Also, do you hit the level cap and just stop gaining experience? Or do you gain experience up to 51 but don't actually level? Thanks for any information you could give.
Level?
# Feb 13 2008 at 11:02 AM Rating: Decent
To answer those questions:

Once you complete Genkai 1 you can go back to Maat and get the Genkai 2 quest. Once you reach the capped level, you will still gain experience but you won't level up until the cap is broken. Also with this quest it is best to be well prepared for the mobs along with the area you'll be running around in.

Just finished it with only two of us, me 55bst/whm and a 75thf/nin, many thanks to Rangerbry for answering my search comment for the Quest and virtually soloing
all three Tigers, I helped a small amount, my jug pet hits harder than I do apart from Rampage. I don't know how hard this Quest was before the update, but we didn't have to much trouble, I received sickness once and was paralyzed once and we went into the yellow but not by much in all three fights maybe I was lucky I don't know. Again many thanks to Rangerbry. (Remora server)

Well i decided after a few days at 55 to do my limit break. Luckily my friend had a 75 and also some friends. We ended up with a full group within 10 minutes. Tele'd out then made our way to the caves. G-10, J-7 then I-6. Our grp consisted of

Jrokku 75 whm/blm
Pyrogir 75 thf/nin
Motenten 75 pld/rdm <Unicorn>
Kenichi 75 blm/whm
Desron 75 whm/blm
Me 55 pld/war

Needless to say these fights were easy about a minute a piece. Word of advice stand in the very back of the cave, its quick to choose it facing back wall and waiting for ??? to appear then bust out. Was easy, thanks guys.

Helped a friend doing this last night. BST75/NIN37 and BLM54/WHM27. Very easy fights, though the hound had a LOT of HP. Their only annoying things were their -aga spells, but with BLM stun easily interrupted. Could've soloed them as BST75.

I was wondering if there were 2 people that needed the stones, could each of the 2 people touch the ??? after the fight is over or can only one receive the stone.

Just Soloed it as lvl 75THF/NIN, some help from person that needed it a lvl 52 WHM in my LS. (hey skullz)
Capped eva and marksmanship.
The NMs are very easy to get to should have no problem.
got Protect and Shell, haste and regen from whm.
Then pretty much soled like any other EP mob.
Blind it and def down it with bolts.
Bloody blots when needed.
Poison and blind might be cast on you with breath attacks.
But nothing too bad.
Ancient magic was super easy to blink and I loved it when they cast it because they stop attacking for a while.
(they have horrible accuracy against evasiom bonus).

I did get help from WHM, but if person that needs it its not a mage type, just pop out ur healer NPC and ur pretty much good.

Just wanted to encourage other Thiefs with Utsusemi: Ni that they could solo it well.

Funny...

I suppose saying "have the Dragoon's in the party Dismiss their Wyvern's" helps ppl who are slow in the head and need help with every single thing. Honestly when I got this the other day, I did it as a Drg, and there was another Drg in the party as well. Not once did I ever highlight either one of our Wyverns. And besides for a Drg, we have to wait 20 mins after everytime to recall them. And I don't know about other Drg's, but I don't like to fight without my Wyvern, period. Even against level 5 mobs.....So to say to have them do that? It's completely unrealistic if the Drg's are high levels and they are the ones helping you!

Also the NM's will aggro you far from the ??? anyways, and if you target someones Wyvern after you kill the NM, and the NM respawns because of your inability to highlight a simple ??? in the opposite direction?!, you need help, because the Wyvern is most likely almost completeley out of range in relation to the ???.

I know this was meant for ppl on PC, but seriously how hard is it to run up and highlight something that's in the complete opposite direction from someones Wyvern?

Me and 2 others needed this limit break. And none of us had a problem with my Wyvern at all. All 3 of us got each frigicite in a timely fashion after each NM was killed. And for those who don't know even Drg's sometimes have problems with their own Wyvern's getting highlighted, especially if you turn around really quick and try highlighting something. Your Wyvern is the first to get highlighted.

But with this? If you can't highlight the ??? after the NM fights with someone who is Drg in the party. You probably can't dress yourself in RL either, and you really need to grow up and start doing things on your own that are within your grasp to do in RL and in this game.

Oh and on a sidenote, seeing an full Alliance of 51+'s with about 5-6 75's in the mix, go after a single NM.........is freekin insane. Garrisons dont even compare. :P
lol

Level 75 SMN/WHM and Level 55 Monk/WAR (me)

Carbuncle is more that enough to solo this at 75. I just sat back and watched. Remember if you want to help out and attack the NM, when Carby is {Released} it will draw you in and attack you. Attacks are bad, but not too bad...just remember to stay away and let the high level player do all the work. I was bored out of my skull but I can now level past 55, so eh...not a bad trade.

lvl 62 rdm/nin (Lanner), lvl 55 blm/whm (microwave) on server Asura.
Only blm need this so let the fun begin.
We kill each NM fine and it is easy fight but long.

Battle Plan on fighting each NM:
Rdm (me) melee and Blm (my friend) just cast status on the NM and when it cast spell she cast "Stun" ASAP. I get 300 TP fast thanks to ninja sub and use Spirit Within did around 5xx - 6xx damage on each NM. I did Spirit Within alot (like over 10+ times per each NM fight, I never count). The trick to this is have 1 Stunner so whenever the NM cast spell stun it. We bring some potion and ether just in case.

If you copy my Battle Plan and say Stun didn't work then go and kill yourself. I testing it and it works like a charm.
Easy to duo, think I will do it again for fun.

I've helped out with this quest yestaday when I was bord.
Just rember you can't get the key item till you start the quest.
So talk to Maat before hand.

Some one had to go back and talk to maat because there did not start the quest.
