Summary

Galmut is running out of oil for the clock tower. The Tenshodo might have some in stock.

Description

Go to Galmut's house in Upper Jeuno next to the tavern & the chocobos. There will be a cutscene where Narhira will enter recounting Galmut's start with the Clock Tower job. Galmut will then ask you to bring some Clock Tower oil. Go to the Tenshodo H.Q. in the Neptune's Spire in Lower Jeuno, and talk to Garnev. He says he will trade you the oil for a Gold Orcmask.

After receiving the quest you get the quest Deal with Tenshodo which has you go off and retrieve the Gold Orcmask. This was found in Davoi off an Orcish Trooper. Once you give Garnev the Gold Orcmask he gives you the Key Item Clock tower oil which is used to complete this quest.

Collet First!!!

For those of you who are running around Upper Jeuno like crazy and can't find Galmut like me, try talking to Collet (G-7 Hume little girl staring @ the clock tower )first!
I wish they said it up on the Description!

Ended up getting mine from the Troopers in Castle Vahzl. Took about 8 kills without TH as opposed to hours of farming 2-4 Trooper spawns in Davoi/Monastic Caverns.

And yes, it does look like that funny picture. And worse yet, can be sold to an NPC for approx 1,075 gil.

Fame has a lot to do with this quest even starting. You need to have at least fame4 in Jeuno to begin the quest from Galmuts house. I went through this too. I kept checking back at his house everytime my fame went up a level. Good luck.
drop rate is trash

These things can spawn in oztraja or zhabley's as well as monastic canvern and davoi. However they are surrounded by other orc's who are near by so pulling them is a hassle cuz a bunch will link. I went with a 66 nin a 70 drk and myself 62 blm and we almost died once (in monastic cavern) we killed about 7 and no drop. Then we wandered to far in davoi and got owned by the harder orc's. Nin had to two hour and I escape just in time with the drk. However we quit cuz we can't find a spot where they spawn one got one by the entrance to cavern and 3 in that big first room however they take for ever to respawn and don't always respawn as trooper's. So this quest is harder than it looks.

lol smn with fenrir/carb mitts LOL carb mitts only give 10-15MP, there a a lvl 43?(not sure about level) staff that gives +63MP and -1 perp. cost on summons for smn. it costs 35k on cerberus right now. but i can solo EP-DCs as my blm(52blm/22whm) but hell its your exp youre risking by fighting it g/l ^^
RE: LOL
# Nov 03 2004 at 11:18 AM Rating: Good
um... carby mitts have a hidden stat of lowering the perpetuation cost of carbuncle, it's almost free with the mitts. so the mitts are actaully pretty darn sweet, especially considering that a summoner can easily solo worms for decent XP using carby since his is their weakness (light btw, not cute).
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 20 2004 at 7:41 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hahah your not too brite are you? The carb mitts and light staff combined give you free carbuncle from 51->63 so you can cast and run away over and over, would be rather difficult with all the links tho, carb might go down pretty fast, at 64 these con EP. Smn is probably the best solo class in the game, BST beats them but they need alot of pots or mobs nearby to solo the hard stuff, for each solo class it all rilly depends on the mob and its abilities.

Here is some real information on Gold Orc Masks.

Orcish Troopers drop Gold Orc Masks roughly 33% of the time.

Orcish Overlord (NM) drops Gold Orc Masks roughly 90% of the time. However, he is a very high level NM and will most likely slaughter anything less then a party of 70+ players. And yes, the pictures of the Orcish Overlord are accurate, I have seen him myself. Also, the names of mobs and characters in the Japanese PS/2 version are in English.

BOTH exist and both drop the items, you are not bound to one or the other. However, due to the fact this is a minor quest, I strongly recommend Troopers for your farming as the Overlord is very much too tough for a player to solo.

Now, as far as difficulty is concerned, I would not recommend fighting Troopers by yourself unless you are:
A. A good solo class 50+ (rdm(phalanx), bst, smn(Fenrir/Carbuncle Mitts), drg/whm)
B. Over level 60.

Have fun and happy hunting

In order to perform the second part of this quest... talking to the NPC Garnev you must have first completed the Lower Jeuno Tenshodo Membership quest.

If you haven't done it, you will not be able to talk to him.

Obtaining the Mask

...I'd had the quest(s) related to this thing since about lvl30 and was frustrated that I'd have to wait so long to be able to get the item.

In my opinion, here's the easiest way to go about getting a mask:
-Enter Davoi and take all left turns, zoning to the Cavern.
-Stay near the zoneline and pull up the Troopers (or other orcs, as they really like to link).
-Seems to be a fairly common drop off the troopers. Soloing them with no TH ability I got one on my 3rd kill.
-The troopers are ~lvl50... so to do this safely I'd suggest a PT of 44-45+, and 55+ to solo. Finally pulled this off at lvl57 soloing.
-As it's been said, the warchief seems to drop this as well, in case you're doing Genkai III.

The mask will sell to vendor for ~1300gil if you've already done the quest. Although the reward armor for this quest is ex., it's a decent piece of hand armor, or you can sell to vendor for 3000+. Cheers.

Rest of the quest
# Feb 07 2004 at 12:52 PM Rating: Decent
After receiving the quest you get the quest "Deal with Tenshodo" which has you go off and retrieve the Gold Orcmask. This was found in Davoi off a Orcish Trooper (and it looked nothing like the fake image posted, it was just a normal orc model.) Once you give Garnev the Gold Orcmask he gives you the Key Item "Clock tower oil" which is used to complete this quest. I was not looking at my original Title so I may have gotten "Trader of Reknown" after exchanging the orcmask, but again I cannot verify that since i did not look at title beforehand.

For completing the quest you receive 1200 Gil and Engineer's Gloves. New Title "Professional Loafer" was given.

The next phase is getting signatures for "a clock tower peition" to save the clock from being dismantled. I was not given a new quest at this point (and I have a ton of fame), and the "a clock tower petition" was in green text and no new quest appeared in my current quest listing.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 04 2004 at 11:25 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ummm for you noobs that don't know, its not fake, you only get the dedailed shadows like that on the PS2 version god ******* damn idiots, **** YOU GUYS **** ME OFF HOW LITTLE YOU KNOW.
RE: idiots
# Feb 04 2004 at 11:42 PM Rating: Default
you mean.. you have the PS2 version already? by all accounts it hasn't been released. or were you referring to the japanese version? which.. would have japanese text.
RE: idiots
# Feb 04 2004 at 11:44 PM Rating: Default
oh, as a side note, I dont totally dismiss the fact this quest could be real.. but you have to admit, that screen looks damn fake. I'll have one of my higher LS members try it out.. 45 right? that should be no problem for them.
Fame
# Feb 03 2004 at 4:08 PM Rating: Default
It must be a specific fame, not Jeuno, because while I have several Jeuno quests, I have only completed one of them (Tenshodo trading ring). I have completed over 120 unique quests and too many repeatable quests to count. I have lvl 7+ fame in Bastok, San d'Oria and Windurst.
yeah..sure
# Feb 02 2004 at 5:38 AM Rating: Default
not fake. very tough fight. if you plan on doing this solo wait until after the first limit break at least.

indeed... notice the complex shadows those orcs have..

I dunno about you.. but all the monsters I've ever seen have a bit blackish circle under them.. not a detailed shadow.

erm.. I'm seriously doubting the authenticity of this Orcish overlord.
RE: Uh...Sure...
# Feb 15 2004 at 9:05 PM Rating: Default
Yeah, notice the name isn't textured in a faded edge yellow color too, it is a sharply bordered like it was entered into paint program and changed back to jpeg format.
Very likely a fake, but i have not tested this out for sure, so i could be wrong still.

Fame needed
# Jan 17 2004 at 11:13 AM Rating: Default
To get this quest I needed the Jeuno fame :

"A good deal of people here in Jeuno know about you"
(this is the same fame I needed for gobbiebag No 3 quest btw)

The fame I had before was not enough, it read:

"Your name is mentioned quite often"

Mendi is the NPC in lower jeuno, who tells fame, he is in the middle under an umbrella at the seaside.
