In-Game Text

Description

Speak with the NPC Wahid in front of the auction house in Bastok Mines.

He will ask you to retreive a Sirens Tear for him that he is in need of.

Before you go outside strip of all weapons, shield and ammo. Also, make sure you still have a slot available in your inventory. Go in to North Gustaberg and follow the road to the creek. Look for a little area that dips down to the water at J-9 on you map. Use the TAB key to auto target until you target something that says ???. Once targeted hit enter. (Note: You MUST have nothing in your hands to pick this up)

You now have the Siren's Tear. Head back to Wahid and receive your reward of 150 gil.

??? Moved.

the ??? for this quest has moved in the latest patch. it is now at the rivermouth in J-8, where the river comes out from under Zegham Hill. it is still on the side of the river closest to the Bastok Gate.

I did this yesterday as a WHM. I only had to unequip hammer and shield. All my armor was left on, and I was able to pick up the Tear.

Siren's Tear
# Nov 24 2003 at 9:43 AM Rating: Decent
The Siren's Tear is a decent quest if you like running around a lot. After talking to Wahid, exit the town at the gate behind you. Look at your map, you'll see two exits to North Gustaberg. Go to the one on the right, and zone. Keeping to the right, run along the mountains until you find the creek with the bridge. After you cross, turn to the right along the riverbank, and when you get about 3/4's of the way, hit TAB to auto-target. You'll target a ???. Unequip any weapons or shields (armor is alright) and pick up the tear. Take it back to Wahid and he'll tell you that he'll buy more from you. If you do repeat this quest, don't talk to him after, just trade him the tear for more gil.

OK, I just did this, a Hume Monk, with my armor on. The real reason it "slips" is because you can't fight at all. Not on the way out from North Gate, or on the way in. If you talk to somone in the Inn in Port Bastok, he tells you how you cant fight. You must show, to the sirens, peace so they will allow the jem to go with you. Hope this helps.

I was able to fight as a lvl 20 WAR when I did this, but had to have weapons unequpped, so I was killing Bare-fisted.

you normally hear this, if you have already talked to him about the siren's tear. Maybe you talked to him about this and forgot. Check you quests. After you have the siren's tear, you go to him and use Trade to give him the jewel.

You have to be unequiped. I just completed it, a Monk. Took off everything. I'm thinking the belt, a strength booster, was interfeering. Anywho, Monks can do this quest. Totally unequipped of anything before you leave Bastok. I found it near the south end of the river on the east bank.

This quest can be compeleted repatedly to make some cash early on. Walk out side is short and no agresive monsters around. Not bad for 150 a trip. I did the "To Be Stylish" Quest to cut down on the time spent running throw town. Now I made enough to buy armor and magic to try out all the Jobs. :)

# Nov 07 2003 at 5:40 PM Rating: Default
Been hitting "Tab" for 3 HOURS!. no tears. with ZERO gears on, Faced to the river and hiting the tab key. Funny thing is there was a Hume next to me when I was there. He got his tear within 30 mins. guess I can try trade my own tears to him for 150gils =(

Does race effect on getting the tears? Im a tarutaru. maybe my hands are too small =(

Actually, that is wrong. Please be sure you know what you are saying before insulting people. It just makes you look stupid. Just 5 minutes ago I took a friend to do some Bastok quests and he got the tear without having the quest. Also, you can always see ??? marks without having the appropriate quest. In some cases, you cannot do anything with them until you do have the quest, of course, but this is not one of those cases.

I had no problem completing this my first trip out to North Gust.

I checked the banks of the southern river. Simply hit tab searching for targets until you find one.

Once I found it, I got closer and examined it and tried to pick it up. Of course it slipped through my hands because I had a sword and shield equiped. (I didn't feel like wandering around with my weapon and shield readied)

Removed my sword, removed my shield. Examined the ??? again and the caught the tear, with out any problems. (those having problems make sure you do not have anything on or in your hands. rings/shields/etc)

Then return back to Wahid and traded him the tear. I don't believe he says anything differently to you, just trade him the tear.

Which part of the river do I search? Is it the very top part near Bastok? Is it right above the water falls? Is it near "Hunting Bear" by the water fall? Or is it down in the very bottom valley part that I can't find my way down to? I want to get this quest out of my list.

It doesn't work for me. I've talked to the quest giver and the guy in the bar to start the quest. I entered North Gustaburg unequipped and tabbed to find the tear but it slips through my hands EVERY time. I was totally unequipped too.

RE: Siren's tear
# Nov 20 2003 at 7:43 AM Rating: Decent
Well, I dont know why so much people have problems getting the siren's tear. I went and got it at my frist try. you have to leave Bastok from the north gate and go to the little river close to the gate. not the one of the waterfall. you have to go to the extrem right of the river where the river is born in a little cave. there you hit the tab to search and you will find it. I'm not sure if it is always there, because I did it just once, but I found it there. I left Bastok with my weapons still on. When I found the siren's tear, instead of picking it up, I pressed ESC, unequiped all and then got it.
