Walkthrough

Orc Crest

=== NOTE: You will need Invisibility for this entire section

- Travel to Davoi, once in Davoi, go to the Zone entrance of Monastic Caverns at H-11

- Zone back to Davoi at the SW corner of I-8. At this point you will be in the house area at the center of the Davoi map.

- Head East across the bridge and then north onto the top of the fort at J-8 to a Tarutaru.

At this point, one person will need to do the mini-quest to get the Crimson Orb at this point to proceed farther. Speak to the Tarutaru to receive the quest. You must touch the Banishing Gate in Davoi before the Taru will give you the mini-quest.

The mini-quest basically tells you to go to the 4 red pools in Davoi. The pools are located at the NW corner of H-10, the NE corner of L-9, NW corner of E-8, and the last one which is not displayed on the map by yellow is found by following the river at H-6 north and to the east. WARNING: When you dip the orb into the 4th pool it curses you, so plan accordingly. Return to the Tarutaru with the Orb to receive the Crimson Orb.

- At this point proceed to the Banishing Wall at the SW corner of J-9 and have the person with the Orb open the gate by clicking on it. This will open a hole in the wall which anyone can walk through. WARNING: This room is populated so if you are doing this alone, make sure all the orcs are looking away when you drop invisibility to use the orb. The zoneline is only a few feet past the wall so if you do get aggro you can run for it.

- Once you've zoned over to Monastic, it's located just after you cross into J-6 on a ledge to the left.

-- Quadav Crest

=== NOTE: You will need Sneak only for this entire section. You also need to be doing, or have completed the Rank 5 Magicite mission to be able to complete this part.

Helpful information: - Mute machines silence you - Afflictor machines curse you - A silenced person can't be cursed by the afflictor - Echo drops remove silence

~~~ - Head to Beadeaux
- Once inside, follow the Tunnel down at H-7 (1st map), then proceed to the tunnel up at F-8 (2nd map).
- Once up top again, hug the right wall to the ramp at E-10 (1st map), then take one of the ramps in the northeastern half of this map at either (K-7) or (J-7) to get back to the lower level. Once there, take the tunnel down at section K-6 (1st map).
- Once below again, follow the path to M-8 (2nd map) and then zone over into Qulun Dome.
- The crest is located on the borderline of I-6/7. In the first room is most likely an NM, so make sure he's wandering away from the door before you try to run through this room. In the 2nd room, all the NM's are generally at the far north side of the room.
Yagudo Crest
=== NOTE: You will only need Invisibility for this entire section, please don't step near the leeches.
Important information:
  • It is imperative that you start this quest at the very beginning of a new game day as the passwords will change every day. (more on that below)
    • This section can not be completed by a single person unless you have some sort of movement enhancement (flee, strider boots, Ninja AF boots
etc..)
- Head to Castle Oztroja
- For the first part you will need to find out what the password of the day is, which requires collecting the information from 3 brass statues.
- Head to the SE corner of H-8 and open the brass door. Click on the statue inside to receive the 1st password.
- Now head to the door at I-8 and then go up the stairs to the 2nd map (Remember the 2nd map as I'll be referencing it later). On this map, head to the exit at G-7 and zone over onto the next map. On the next map head north to I-7 and zone over to yet another map. Now head to the SE corner of H-9 and open the brass door and receive the 2nd password from the statue. (Note: If you've done the paladin AF2 quest, this is the exact same spot you were sent to fish)
- Proceed back along the same path to the 2nd map. (The one I told you to remember) The 3rd statue is located on the NW corner of I-8. If you've never experienced this section of the map before there are blocker points preventing most of the "obvious" paths and forcing you to walk around the outside.
Now that you have visited 3 statues, you should have 3 passwords. The ones I collected from multiple visits are Mong, Deggi, Duzu, Mjuu, Ouzi, Xicu, Ovzi, Buxu, Haqa, Gadu, Puqu, Duxo, Zhuu. You may receive other ones but write those 5 down in case the day flips over and you have to "guess" later on in the quest.
At this point you can actually go get the crest.
- From the 3rd statue point head west to the 4 lever door at the SW corner of G-8. To be honest I have no clue what the correct sequence of levers is, but I found that if I randomly flip them it generally opens the door. Once through the door, head up the stairs and zone over (G-9) onto a new map.
- The next map is pretty straightforward, just remain invis and don't step on the Yagudo Parasites (leeches), and proceed to the next map at H-11.
- You want to proceed through the Brass door at H-7 from here. In order to do that you must have someone light one of the 4 torches.
- There are torches at G-7, G-8, H-7, and H-8 in each of the small rooms. From my experience they all do the same thing, which once lit opens the brass door at H-7. This is where you need the 2nd person. One person lights the torch, the 2nd person goes inside (The door can be opened from inside). The Yagudo in the torch rooms operate on sight only so if you wait patiently for them to face the walls you can drop invis, light the torch, and re-invis. You can do this part solo with flee.
- Once through the door, there will be a wooden plank with a red circle (trap door) in front of a Brass Statue. Have everyone stand on the plank and have click on the statue and input the passwords (Order doesn't matter). The trap door will open and everyone will fall through to the bottom. Don't worry about invis, the bottom of the trap door is safe. Be sure to put it back up afterwards however.
Note: If you've taken too long and a day has passed, the passwords may have changed. Try a few of the 5 I provided in addition to your own and hopefully you can get through. If not, enjoy visiting the statues again.
- Once everyone has dropped down through the trap door, you will see a long corridor leading to a large room with a series of ramps up to a center platform. The ??? to get the Yagudo crest is located on the central platform. At this point you'll need to keep a lookout for the Yagudo NM (Generally the High Priest).
- Wait for the Yagudo NM to be sufficiently far away from the center platform, then travel up the ramps to the center platform, standing "behind" any regular Yagudo which may be on that platform, drop invis, click the ??? and re-invis.
- If you are in a large group, I highly suggest you send people up one at a time so that if they get aggro, they can run to the base of the ramp and die in a suitable fashion and not kill everyone, but still be within tractor range.
Once you have all 3 crests return and speak to Maat to raise your level limit.
I did this yesterday as 56 WHM/28BLM.
Beadeaux - Easy, just steer clear of Ruby Quadav.
Davoi - I had to do the orb quest in between, though when I finally finished it and got to the Banishing Gate again, some opened it with theirs XD. When I examined it the first time I just dropped invis, examined, and recasted while they were looking away, not a problem.
Castle Oztroja - Started on 0:00 Iceday - Passwords were Gadu, Mjuu, and Mong (I don't know if it's the same per day, but what the hey :p). Just followed the above guide. At all the statues I just waited til the Yagudo were either behind the statues, at the sides of the room, or towards the door. Dropped invis, examind, rescasted ^^.
The difficult part was the brass door at the end. I debated picking up a Hemes Quencher at AH (regretting I didn't). Ended up shouting next to the door with invis on :p. Eventually, with 1:50 in-game hours left a Hume named Kadaj (shouts :p) got his group to clear next to a torch and opened it for me. Thanks! Went in, put in passwords, fell down, reapplied invis and went out. I didn't even SEE Yagudo High Priest, was all paranoid tho; just went up to the high center dropped, examined and warped.
All in all, I ended up able to do it solo (minus the help from Kadaj's group ^^) with the proper buffs; not too hard.
Just wanted to add for the Davoi section. Once through the wall (grrgh) the whole sticking to the left hand side thing is great. The ???? is very close to the drop off. DO *NOT* drop or you have run over it. This is exactly what I did /sigh and you have to get back in the hard way.
Scoot round the edge of the big room you come to and the ??? is very close to but not passed the drop. This was the first one I did - and was expecting more of an indicator than some random patch on the floor. Just keep tabbing - you'll find it.
Also - handy and blatantly obvious but hell we nearly came unstuck because of this... Make sure your mages have sneak oils as well as echo drops for Beadeaux. Sneak dropping nr high level quads is not fun.
You need to keep silence up for quite a while in the end section as you go close to 3 or 4 more curse machines in Qu'lun Dome.
I only had 2 or 3 on me but it was enough to save our RDM and just get us both through. Wish I had brought more.
Don't know if this was a game glitch or just luck but thought ah'd share this morning's experience.
Me and my great friend Budilo spent 3 1/2 hours trying to get my coffer key in Monastic Cavern. He's lvl 70 rdm and I was lvl 60 blm, just the two of us basically nuking the orcs and relying heavily on blink and stoneskin. Finally got the key and found the coffer, now I'm the proud owner of my Wizard's Coat. Wooohooo!
Well since we were there we went ahead and went for my Orcish Crest. We got to the wall and I couldn't get in. He didn't realize I didn't have the orb and I thought he was taking me to the guy to do the mini quest for the orb. Well I got aggro at the wall of course and ended up dying. No biggy, got my coat. Well he tractors me through the barrier to safety, raises me and we zone immediately. With invis up we went to the ??? and I got the crest!
Thanks
Just finished this quest, not too bad. Did die a couple times, but just due to me wandering off beaten path looking for chests. The info provided in all of the posts was most helpful, thanks to all who posted this great info.
All of it is soloable, as I did the quad part and orc part solo, i got with 3 others to do the yag part. I want to thank Sebastian (sp) and I forget the names of the other two, but thanks for fun time in oz!
Can someone redo the write up at the top to explain the Davoi part of this quest better? It would have been nice not to have to dig half way through the comments here to find out you have to touch the wall THEN talk to the Taru Taru to get the subquest. That would have saved me a couple deaths last night.
In the last room of Castle Oztroja where you have to enter the passwords, here is how you can do it so save yourself a lot of time.
Normally you'd have to go all around the castle and waste a lit of time finding the statues that have the passwords on them, but here is a list of all the possible passwords and you MUST properly capitalize the words when typing them in.
Domi
Puqu
Gadu
Deggi
Mjuu
Xalmo
Haqa
Mong
Ouzi
Duzu
Buxu
Quu
Misu
Xicu
Ovzi
Duxo
Zhuu
If you enter one in without looking at the statue that gives the password and the statue that you inter the password into says its incorrect, dont worry, you're just using the password on a day that its not being used.
For example if you type in "Domi" and it says its incorrect, then that means that today the password is a different word since the passwords reset every day at 0:00.
If you check the statue and it says its making a weird humming sound or whatever, then just keep trying to check it. I have heard that if someone has the statue selected in the target window then someone else cant check it, but I haven't proved this yet.
Enter the passwords one at a time and if you get one right, you can move onto the next one. If you get it wrong you may have to wait a little while before entering one again, but keep trying to check it.
Print out or write down my list and then check off all the words you have entered that are incorrect so you dont get confused and accedentally enter the same word again.
If at any time the clock changes to 0:00 you have to start over your list from the first word since it will reset and one of the words you have entered may now be a correct password on this new day.
When all 3 passwords have been entered sucessfully, the wooden floor infront of the statue will collapse and everyone standing on it will fall down. Make sure that everyone in your party is standing on it before you enter the last password.
Cast Invisible on everyone and run upto the ??? on the top of the stone structure thingy and examine it, but be CAREFUL because the Yagudo High Preist is standing there and hes a very high level HNM with true sight, meaning he can look through your stealth.
If you get aggro by this guy, have the tank provoke it and the healer keep him alive until everyone has checked the ??? and got the crest. Then have the rdm chainspell and escape or the blm escape or the whm teleport out. Its too dangerous to warp 2 everyone one at a time here.
Congratulaions! You've finished getting the yagudo crest!
Clearly brute forcing the passwords is the way to go. I just did this one last night Castle O turned out to be the quickest and easiest of all three areas thanks to the person that walked me through. It took about 5 minutes to brute force all the passwords, so if you are very unlucky then you will be entering all 17 passwords about 45 (I don't know enough about this to figure out exactly the max) sort of reminds me of a game called mastermind, but not as interesting.
Beadeaux Problems
Beadeax is a serious, serious problem and should not be attempted alone. The room they claim "may" contain a NM, most certainly will unless there is a RDM there hunting testimonies. There is a Ruby Quadav (true hearing) in a small room with a muter, and there is nearly no way around him. You will need at least two people and here's the strategy that worked for me...
It's a good idea for both people to be nin, rdm or main or sub whm for utsusemi, phalanx, stoneskin, and/or blink.
Person 1: Buff up with whatever you've got, this is going to be stressful.
Person 2: put sneak on and get ready to run.
Person 1: Diaga (to make sure you get all three quadavs) directly on the Ruby Quadav and run for your life to the nearby zone you just came out of. I personally didn't even get attacked but they can hit for 100-180 dmg per swing, so this is no time to ***** around.
Person 2: As soon as the three quadavs are focused on Person 1, make a break for it. You need to get past the Ruby Quadav before Player 1 zones and loses hate and leaves him open to aggro you. Go into the next room, watch out for yet another Ruby Quadav and another True Hearing HNM Adaman Quadav.
Person 2 now has to leave out a different exit, and back to the zone where Person 1 is waiting to repeat the process for Person 1.
EDIT: I've see some people are having trouble getting through the Wall of Banishing, so here's another one of my winning strategies. Once again, I suggest you duo this. This time, specifically with one of you as BLM/WHM or BRD/WHM (sleeper).
If the non-sleeper is the orb holder:
Non-sleeper Invis and run right up to the wall and get ready. Sleeper cast Sleepga/Horde Lulaby on Orcs. Non-sleeper drop invis and get both of you through the gate. Even if you have one that wouldn't sleep, it's nothing stoneskin/blink can't handle.
If the blm is the orb holder:
Sleeper blink+stoneskin+invis self and get as close to the gate as possible and the non-sleeper stays close by, making sure all orcs are still in your sights and close enough together to be all hit by the sleepga/horde lulaby. The non-sleeper now has to watch for any orcs they may need to distract that don't fall asleep so they don't try to hit the orb holder who can not be disturbed while opening the gate.
I'd reccommend a BLM/WHM as the sleeper just so they can throw in an Elemental Seal for good measure.
Soloing Beadeux
Very good and detailed battle plans. However I think it's a bit alarmist. Beadeaux is often considered the easiest of the three and fairly easy to solo, since Sneak is the only spell needed (and therefore, you can open doors and check ??? without dropping it). Of course, two heads are always better than one, but a few tips on how to solo :
Upon first reaching Qulun Dome, after a short hallway, you'll come across a small chamber with a Muter in the center, and several Quadav, including most probably a Ruby. The door to the next chamber is to the right (north), so it's basically a waiting game until the Ruby goes to the left side of the room (and faces away). Just run into the room, hugging the right hand wall until you hit the door (it's right there).
As soon as you open the door, run in and stop to assess the situation in the next room. (There's a small drop a ways from the door, so once you drop down that step, you're committed). The next room is a large circular room with a pool of shallow water. Despite the impressive looking standard/altar on the northern wall, that's not where the ??? is... thankfully. The Adaman and Ruby quadav tend to congregate around that area. Your target is along the western wall. Just wait until the True Sight Quadavs are both against the north, then hug the southern wall (your left) around the pool until you get to the ???.
Good luck to everyone trying this! Don't worry. No more stress until Level 70 (G5)!
To do the subquest:
Enter Davoi then head to H-11 to enter the Monastic Caverns. Work your way though here then cross a bridge. If you go right, you will come to a glowing wall with three orcs guarding it. You need to touch the wall. If you time it right, you can do this while all three orcs are looking away then reinvisible yourself before they know anyone is there. Not far from here is a fort area where you will find Sedal-Godjal. Talk to him and the actual subquest will start. [If he does not give you the subquest, it is because you have not touched the wall first.]
Just did g3 today - and it went fairly well. I did get killed in Oztroja though ><. Soloing the entire thing is very doable. Oztroja is the most difficult part of g3 hands down. However any job can solo oztroja /w the help of a hermes quencher. Its incredibly difficult to light a torch and not get any aggro. There were at least 2 yagudo assassin/prelates at every torch. Once you hit the torch, use the hermes quencher, then invi up and gun it to the door at h-7.
I caught aggro trying to get invi up, and ended up just running through the door - where the prelate made short work of me. Just when I thought I'd have to HP and redo everything over, someone appeared in the password room and raised me! So I thank him and quickly input the passwords /w about 20 seconds to spare before the passwords changed. Fell down the trap door, waited till weakness wore off and made my up up to the ???. The Yagudo High Priest moved off to the path on the right and I grabbed the crest. I would definantly have brought a scroll or reraise if I were to do it again (I should have had one /w me ><)
The info in this walkthru helped immensely. I was able to even solo the Castle Oztroja section and get the passwords. I've heard only via rumors, that they have modified the passwords so you can't spam them.
This is what I did with BLM sub. I went in and at Midnight, popped the second word. Then did an Escape, and got the First and the Third. This way, I didn't have to backtrack and saved a little time while at it.
I got to the door at about 5 in the morning. Plenty of time to find someone to open the door (Thanks Pejan), and get down to the Crest area.
4 hours IRL, GK3 completed.
I just finished this quest this morning and I did it solo, well pretty much solo. Davoi and Beadaux were so easy, did both of them in less than an hour. castle Otzroja, not as easy. got the passwords with no hitch but when I got to the door with 4 levers and opend it there was a yugodo waiting on the other side who saw me before I could recast invis. I used my powdered boots and ran as far up to the top as I could hoping I could die close to someone wiht raise, which did happen, in fact the lvl 70 blm who raised me said it was the biggest train he had ever seen and thanked me cause it was so funny to watch. Anyways he raised me in front of the bass door and went and opened it for. after I healed I dropped down got the crest and was killed agaib by the NM. I don't really know if the powdered boots would have helped me run from the torch to the brass door, but I do know that there were alot of people up there to open the door for me, so if you are soloing it chances are you will get the help you need there.
Did it last night.
Beaudeaux is the easiest by far. Watch out for Ruby Quadav, as i understand it has true sight (though i passed on the opportunity to find out for myself).
Davoi can go either way. It can be quick if you have someone who already has the orb and can open the banishing wall. If not, one of the mages in your pt will have to do the bit with the ponds, preferably one with escape so they can just zone once they're cursed.
I spent several hours on this part due to those pesky complications that arise when you're doing these sorts of things.
The first problem we ran into was Orcish Hexspinner. This NM resides in the monastic caverns beyond the banishing wall. He is situated on a raised mound in the first big room in that part of the zone. He has true sight, so if you don't avoid him, you'll have a train of the nastiest orcs in Vana'diel following you. As the guide above suggests, hug the left wall. You'll be out of his perception range if you do. Basically, the only problem with this part is if you or your pt members don't know about the NM.
The second problem we ran into was that when the person holding the orb dropped invis to open the banishing wall, he'd get aggro and instead of being able to open it, he'd get an "Event skipped" message. This is beacause he was being hit.
So what you should do is go to the jail area where the quest-giving taru is, buff up with blink, stoneskin, etc. Then, go to the wall and have a buffed mage drop invis (preferable a RDM, since they'll have higher def and higher enhancing, if its capped). Once this mage gets aggro, the orb holder drops invis, opens the gate, and you all zone. This ensures that the orb holder will not get his "event skipped."
Castle Oztroja wasn't exactly a walk in the park either. Getting to the top of the castle (ie, where you put in the passwords) isn't hard, just be careful not to draw aggro from the leeches in the room with the fountain. They aggro sound, so just steer clear of their perception range.
Lighting the torch to open the bronze door (behind which is the brass statue that you enter the pass words into) can be tricky, since you have to drop invis. The rooms with the torches typically have two or more high level yags, so you'll have to wait till their backs are turned, drop invis, light the torch, reapply invis asap.
If the person lighting the torch draws aggro, have them walk into the middle of the short hallway directly connected to the torch room and let them die. DO NOT let them panic and run for the door, as this will bring a train of deadly yags onto everyone else. One person can head through the door, while another (preferably WHM with raise II) goes to raise the torch lighter. There should be enough distance from the yags to cast raise, and then invis, safely.
Alternatively, if the torch lighter gets aggro, have everyone else run through the bronze door and have the torch lighter run just within tractor range of the door. The key thing is, have them die in a place that will facilitate raising.
Ok, now you put in the passwords (which you have no doubt gotten here at Alla and written down in advance). You'll drop down into the long hall where you'll be free to rest/buff. Naturally, SE put the ??? right under the feet of Yagudo Highpriest, a NM that has true sight and a penchant for eating intruders posthaste.
There are two ways i can think of to get the crest and get out alive. The first is to be patient and not to panic and wait till the NM and other yags have their backs turned. You can then drop invis, grab the crest, and run to one of the two raised walkways that flank the area with the ???. Go midway down these walkways, and you'll be out of perception range.
Once there, recast invis and move a little further down just to be sure that you are out of the Highpriest's range. Have the other members of your pt follow the same proceedure till everyone has the crest and is grouped together safely. Escape, and you're done.
The second way, which will be quicker but riskier, requires a RDM. Have the RDM go get the crest (if he gets aggro, just have him run to the opening of the hallway that you dropped into, so you can tractor/raise II) and then run to safety on one of the walkways. Next, have everyone else go TOGETHER and get the crest. As soon as they get aggro and/or drop invis, have the RDM standing by, then have him spam his Chainspell/Escape macro. This should get everyone out alive, but it is key that everyone knows exactly what is going on, and that you have enough patience and calm to time it properly. If no one panics, you'll make it out.
In retrospect, i'd do the following:
*Go in small groups. Three or four seems best.
*Make sure that the melees have bought ample sneak oils/silent pots. If the mages have to recast sn/invis every five seconds, it will slow you down considerably and pretty much guarrantee unnecessary deaths. You might have the melees sub WHM or RDM if they have it lvled high enough for sn/invis.
*Make sure everyone has a map of each of the dungeons. Beau map is sold in Bastok, Oz in Windy, Davoi in Sandy.
*Bring a WHM with Raise II.
*Bring someone with Escape, preferably a RDM for Chainspell as well.
Whoa. Wrote a whole lot more than i meant to. Sorry. Hope this is helpful and not just senseless blabber. :)
Just 1 quick question...do you have to touch the Banishing Wall in Davoi right before getting the mini-quest, or does touching it for Rank 5 count? Thanks ^^
Complete.
Just finished it. No problems except for my curiosity in Castle Oztroja. I got the crest but I decided to go up the walkways on the outside. I knew I was in big trouble when I saw:
Tzee Xicu the Manifest: You are not here as sacrifices, are you? Could you possibly be committing this affront in the face of a deity? Very well, I will personally mete out your divine punishment, kyah!
The Tzee Xicu the Manifest scores a critical hit!
/em takes 581 points of damage.
The Yagudo Prelate casts Water IV.
/em takes 529 points of damage.
/em is defeated by the Yagudo Prelate.
