Description

Laisrean asks you to fetch an item for him in Sea Serpent Grotto. Make sure you have your Silver beastcoin, then enter the Sea Serpent Grotto from Yhutanga Jungle. Take every left you come to. Eventually you will get to an Ornamented Door. That means you're going the right way. Take a left when you get to the door. Continue down this path and take the next left you find. You will arrive at a room with a large puddle and a waterfall. Continue moving straight until you find an unmarked door. Examine this door until you get the message, "You see some silver shavings near the indent on this wall." Trade your silver beastcoin to open the door.

You will be greeted by some pugils when you open the door. Move forward without falling off of any ledges. When you arrive in the room at (H-8), hop off the ledge. Move through this path. You will get to a room identical to the one you just fell from. Keep going forward and you will arrive at the unmarked door to the treasure room. Examine the ??? to recieve the Sea Serpent Statue. Return to Laisrean with the item after the cutscene.

What about smuggling??
# Apr 11 2004 at 12:37 AM Rating: Decent
What about smuggling for Tenshodo ? (from Sandoria to Jeuno). I've got my airpass; I just smuggle, pray I don't get caught, and then ghettowarp or fly back to Sandoria.

If anyone knows the impact of that quest, please post it here.

Thanks!

(and yes, the term ghetto may offend; no offence was intended. I also realize that using the switch to lvl1, warp to HP in Sandoria impacts conquest points)

okay, am returning to norg to finish this quest. For those using rice balls as a gauge, mine are currently at 158 (this is after getting the quest). Did the yagudo necklaces like 32 times, maybe a couple time for the zinc ore, but I've got max fame in SDO and Jeuno, and 5-6 in Bastok and Windhurst, so that may have something to do with it.
Also, while doing this quest if you're a Thief, bring along some thief's tools and look for the chest. I got the Map doing this as well.
Unluckiest lucky fool

Ok im here to retell my experiences with Utsusemi quest...because its..well its an epic. >.<

First of all, while lvling ninja, i finished 30 zinc ore quests (exactedly) for about 200-300 gil per ore. Got both quests..was all hyper, i had 7 silent oils.

Norg..getting to Norg is easy **** >.<..anyways someone wrote that going naked with no armor/weapons makes silent oils last longer. So yes i was running around Sea Serpent Grotto naked at lvl 35.

Got Tonko/Utsusemi quest..finished Tonko without a peep, used 2 silent oils. Utsusemi is much farther away..so i was afraid and bought another stack of silent oils at AH (17 silent oils)

On the way to the chest for Utsusemi, i kept getting rid of Sneak, and reusing just in case because of the large number of sahagins..after the silver coin door, Around the middle of the new map, after i fell down the huge cliff, i tried to reapply my silent oil with my macro...Boom i ran out. im like WTH!?, so i scroll up chat log and see that it says something like
"You could not buy the silent oil with 4,500 gil."
i was like omfg..
so im complaining to my ls telling them what an idiot i am..when this octopus thingy aggros me
and hits me for 150+ damage. So i think quickly..i cant really use my Instant Warp scroll (My HP was Jeuno) while getting hit..my 2 hour is already spent(im thief)..so i just slam the "flee" macro and run forward aggroing pretty much everything.

So i was like "bah..humbug..f***, and run straight, "Flee wears off." than i start getting hit again
im at about 50 health when i see a chest..
im like OMFG and press it in an instant

"CUTSCENE" i got the entire cutscene..i was like YES YES YES!!

After the cutscene though..about 30 sahagins were surrounding me, i got hit for about 50k+ dmg in 1 second and died. Didnt care, anyways that is why i am the luckiest unlucky fool (or vice versa) and the moral of the story is...CHECK when you buy stuff..and BUY lots of silent oils..and USE this map because it pwned

I bought somewhere between 70-80 Yagudo Necklaces today and turned them in for fame. They were 100 for the first 10 or so, 200 for the next 30 or so, then 350 and up to 400 (I stopped when they hit 400).

Rice balls were 158 in Jueno when I checked, but I didn't feel like spending more in Windurst and zinc ores were some 400 minimum in Bastok. I bought up four eastern potteries and made my way to Norg.

I didn't have enough fame apparently; the man said to me "Hey, I remember you. You're Mich... no, Eldrik, right?"
I did get the quest to turn in the potteries and gained fame from that, however. I then talked to both instructors to get the rusty subligaria and leggings quests. Subligaria were about 1k each and I didn't feel like doing that, so I bought the leggings at 400-500 a piece and turned them in.

Talked to the fame guy again and voila, my level was higher and I was able to get both the Utsusemi and Tonko quests. Got the Tonko easily, but have died twice in the Grotto getting Utsusemi. The instructions above are so lacking that both times I've died it was because my sneak didn't last as long as usual and it just happened to expire as I was trying to decipher what the hell the directions intend me to do. Oh well, I'm almost there...
Toughest sahagin in the way of this?

What's the toughest Sahagin you see on this quest? I want to see if I can save myself money on Silent Oils if nothing will aggro me at LV60 doing it. ^^;

You need to examine the door multiple times untill you notice silver shavings around the door. THEN you can trade the door a silver beastcoing to open it. Also Make sure you're at the right door...

Quest needed to get item?
# Feb 24 2004 at 1:29 AM Rating: Default
I've gotten a lot of quests done with just getting the item and giving it to the person, thus saving enormous amounts of time. Can you do this with this quest?
RE: Quest needed to get item?
# Feb 25 2004 at 3:12 PM Rating: Decent
no, because all the items you obtain and/or need are key items, so in order to trigger their existence you must have the quest or it will say "you see nothing out of the ordinary" or something similar

just figured Id put this link here since I posted before this quest was put on this site.
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?ffspell=399&mid=107515450011578 (also explains where to do quests for the right fame)

few other things.. you cant do this with a lvl 1 char unless you are good at dodging lvl 30gobs on your way from kazham to Sea Serpent Grotto

Map of kazham and jungles is "Elshimo Region" for 3k IN JEUNO you cant buy the map in Kazham.
Map of Sea Serpent Grotto is chest item IN the grotto, so unless your lvl 50+ you wont be getting a map anytime soon ^.^

Also sneak oil is rarely for sale in kazham cause its high demand there so buy a stack in Jeuno or elsewhere before going.

*edit* ummm actually the quest info is a word for word snippet of that section of my guide. it just lacks the info about fame. too bad I dont seem to get credit for my work o.O

???

You can chocobo from Kazham, through Yuhtunga Jungle, to the edge of Sea Serpent Grotto with chocobo level job. Then, follow the right wall to get to Norg. Then change your job in Norg.

Walking from Kazham to Norg is just stupid.

As has been mentioned before, the Yagudo Necklace quest seems to give you a lot less Norg fame than the zinc ore quest. I am waiting until I accomplish a few of my other goals before leveling my Ninja, so I'm going to take my time and do the zinc ore only when I get a bunch of zinc from mining. My rice ball price is in the low 160s as well, and I've done a bunch of Yagudo necklace quests and only 2 zinc ore quests - take that for what you will.

Update - I got a little money together and bought a bunch of Zinc Ore (I think it was about 40) which brought the riceball price down to 162ish to 155. I went to Norg without having any quests there and here are the results:

{Utsusemi: Ichi}
{Tonko: Ichi}
{Dokumori: Ichi}
{Key Item: Tuning Fork of Water}
{Do you have it?}
{/yes}

Someone please help me! I got to the stone door and examined it until it said there was gold glittering in the indentation. Then i traded the silver beatcoin to it and nothgin happened! Wat am i doing wrong!
RE: beastcoin?
# Feb 17 2004 at 1:41 AM Rating: Default
This is because you are at the wrong door. This is the door at I-14. The correct door (the one at N-14) gives the correct message as well about "silver shavings" instead of "gold glittering".
What I Did
# Feb 12 2004 at 11:48 PM Rating: Decent
To get this quest, I did...
Nana Mingo's Quest about 50 Times.
Did the 3 zinc ore quest once.
Did the tenshodo membership quest.
Did the Ninja Flag quest.
Did the Tonko Scroll Quest.
Did the 2 Rusty Quests (Leggings and Subs).

Then Laisrean offered me this quest.
Hope this helps ^^

rice balls
# Feb 07 2004 at 11:51 PM Rating: Decent
I got my rice balls down to 155g each at the Tenshodo and the quest didn't activate. Neither did the one where you need opa-opa brew. I completed the Tonko: Ichi quest aswell as the 2 quests which need 10x rusty leggings/subligars and it still didn't activate. I then went and handed over 24 more yagudo necklaces to nanaa mihgo and went back using scroll of instant warp (I set my hp in norg) and then the quests were given to me.

so make sure you get your riceballs lower than 155g before you start making the trip to norg, cause it'll waste you time and silent oils like it did to me.

First off, the guides are always a work in progress. You are a moron for not just doing it yourself, and for blaiming Allakhazm for your short dealings. If you have a problem with the guides, don't use them. Quite taking up space with your complaints. This section is designed for people to add additional info and get questions in regaurd to the quest answered. It is also where you can tell about what happened wrong/why it didn't work to better then guide for the future. No one posts these guides with the intention of misguiding someone (that I know of). Especially one as big as this one. Most of the time it is someone that is going off memory and can't remember every little detail that goes into it. Please try to be more considerate in the future.

There are a few mistakes in this, Sea Serpent Grotto exits to Yuntunga not Yohator so disregard that. Secondly, the drop-offs are reversed in the directions, the drop-off on the left comes first and the one on your right (that you walk off) comes second. In addition, it can be tricky to find the stone door after you go left at the ornamented door. Just after taking a left at the ornamented door you will come to a large chamber with a stone bridge going across it (it will be on you right as you enter). There will be a passage leading off from your left out of this chamber just after you enter and this is the one you want. You're close to the door at this point. What you should do is aim for grid N-14, this will work even if you don't have a map. Just keep checking and point yourself in that direction and you should arrive at the door. After you trade the beastcoin to the door just do as the directions above say except that the left side drop-off is first and the right side one (that you jump off) is second. Be sure to bring a full stack of silent oils, it's better to have too many than to have them run out just before you reach the vault. When it starts to run out find a safe spot and ready the next one, but don't confirm till after the previous one runs out. Whatever you do, DON'T keep running when it starts warning you, find a safe spot right then. If you can't, try to find a spot with as much distance between you and the mobs as possible and don't move. Get the next ready and activate it the second the last one runs out and hope they don't agro (no movement decreases the likelihood of sound agro) Royal leeches and undead bats don't agro even on a lvl 1 character BTW, so it's safe to stand around them when your sneak oil runs out. I recommend doing this with a lvl 1 character, run out of Norg to the entrance tunnel, then turn around and do as the directions say (except remembering that the order of the drop-offs is backwards as I said earlier)

No one has mentioned this, and it is REALLY IMPORTANT:

CHECK THE STONE DOOR AT N-14 SEVERAL TIMES!
The first response you get is something like "There is nothing out of the ordinary"...don't buy it! There IS something out of the ordinary.

Check it again: "There is a crack in the door", then again "The crack begins to glimmer" or something like that. NOW trade the silver beastcoin.

I wasted 5 silent oils running around Sea Serpent Grotto, CURSING ALLAKHAZAM'S HALF-A$$ CRAPPY QUEST WRITE-UPS. Had this info been in it, I'd have saved about 3000 gil.
