Description

Laisrean asks you to fetch an item for him in Sea Serpent Grotto. Make sure you have your Silver beastcoin, then enter the Sea Serpent Grotto from Yhutanga Jungle. Take every left you come to. Eventually you will get to an Ornamented Door. That means you're going the right way. Take a left when you get to the door. Continue down this path and take the next left you find. You will arrive at a room with a large puddle and a waterfall. Continue moving straight until you find an unmarked door. Examine this door until you get the message, "You see some silver shavings near the indent on this wall." Trade your silver beastcoin to open the door.

You will be greeted by some pugils when you open the door. Move forward without falling off of any ledges. When you arrive in the room at (H-8), hop off the ledge. Move through this path. You will get to a room identical to the one you just fell from. Keep going forward and you will arrive at the unmarked door to the treasure room. Examine the ??? to recieve the Sea Serpent Statue. Return to Laisrean with the item after the cutscene.

I just wanted to say that after 81 (one to start the Ore quest), I was able to do the other three scroll quests. After completing those quests I was able to do the Utsusemi: Ichi quest. I've heard that 200 Yag necklaces will get you to the same point. So that's:

81 Zinc Ore

or

200 Yag Necklaces

Please reply to this if you were able to do this with less or if for any reason it isn't enough for you. Please keep in mind that SAM quests will also influence Tenshodo fame.

Ahh, so, I've traded 260 yagudo necklaces (heard that 256~ was amount needed) and checked my fame in windy. Turns out it's 1? Enough motivation was killed to log for the night, so now I'm here and wondering if it takes time to tally the fame or something. Even so, I got these beads in a 3 day time period. trading 32-36 every 1.5 hrs or so?.... {Hmmm.} I'm only 34 THF/RNG so getting to Norg is a hassle and would much rather be certain I can flag the quest when I get there.

BUT... after reading a few posts I s'pose I could go to Jeuno and check.. rice ball prices? ...err.... I guess?... still don't understand why my windy fame is only 1.

The fame you want from trading yag necklaces or zinc ores is for Norg (Tenshodo related) fame, NOT Windy fame. To check your fame, you can check the rice ball price in Tenshodo in Lower Jeuno, or head on over to Norg and check there.

Necklaces don't raise Windy fame, they raise Tenshedo fame. Every town has a person in it from the Tenshedo that has a quest to raise fame. It doesn't affect the town's fame though.

Your Windy fame is zero because you haven't done any quests for them yet.

man.... what I would do is talk to a GM cuz it should be instant. if you turned in 260 necklaces that should have been way more than enough.... since I only turned in 200.

This quest is really easy to follow...although if you dont have escape or instant warp it is really hard to get out of sea serpant grotto without a map if so go to [FFXI-Atlas.com] maps are easy to follow for anywhere!!

I just got this quest yesterday, when I started yesterday price of rice balls for me was 164. I just went and bought all of the zinc ores I could get my hands on in jeuno and bastok and traded them to tenshodo npc in port bastok. I think I traded 14 times so 56 total zinc ores, checked rice balls again and they were 156, went to norg got quest along with many others. Happy days I can finally start playing my nin again. Been at 12 and waiting for a while.

I have enough fame to do the levithan avatar battle solo, but not to do this quest. It looks like I'm going to have to farm some yag necklaces when I wake up tomorrow.

I just bought and farmed must be about 250 over the last 2 days and the rice balls are now l55 gil from 174!!! i think i had a big starting price or something -.- but anyway im gonna head out to Norg and hope that i have enough fame now. If not im gonna be real f@*ked off, so dont get in my way if u see me!!!

To get enough fame it always helps to have gil i bought about 200 of my yag necklaces and farmed the rest, but in the end i will make profit but having some gil on top helps.

This is now my favorite quest. The reward is huge, and you can get through it w/o doing anything, just get a few silent oils and your set. All my mules have done it, and the profit is astonishing. This is the single greatest quest ever lol

Well, I started off saying this would be a pain in the @$$ and that I'd never do it. I ended up needing it, so there I was farming yag beads. Took me 4hrs 15mins to farm 218 Yagudo Beads. I went as 50DRK/25THF, I tried to do the Yagudo train trick, but it was actually a waste of my time. I realized that if you walk up to each individual Yagudo and attack them, it actually goes by much quicker since I usually kill them in one hit anyways. All I did was walk through northern part killing all Yagudos, then through the top level of the caves, then to the southern part. Finished up the southern part went back through the caves to the northern part... Just went in a big circle. Made 4 trips, and I was finished a lot sooner than I had thought. Just find a friend to hold on to all your not needed gear. I came fully equipped with nothing else in my inventory but my Linkshell, left me with 43 open slots. Anyways, hope this helped. Good Luck and stay focused, you will be done before you know it.

Here's my research and tips from my point of view. First of all don't buy the scroll from the AH unless you can't do this quest it isn't that time consuming if you buy most of it from the AH. So i started by farming up 50 necks and that took me about 3 hours thus i decided there must be an easeir way to do this. I went back to Jeuno saw that necks were selling for 1k each and so were ores so over the course of playing this game and traveling to bastok and windy several times I would clear out my inventory buy all of jeunos stock in one item and trade them the items. Here I will show you my math.

I turned in about 100 necks and 50 ores. I didn't buy them from the countries cause they were often 2k instead of 1k. So lets say you need to buy 100 necks at 1000gil each that comes out to be 100,000. Now you buy 50 ores at 1000gil each thus being 50,000. Your totaly comes to 150,000. Now the scroll itself is worth 600k on my server so as you can see this is obviously the better less time consuming way to go. But 150k you say! thats too much well in the 3 hours i spent farming those dam necks I could of had 2 stacks of tree cutting which got for 120k on my server. So you have to ask yourself the question is it worth your time to collect these necks over the course of 6-8 hours or buy them and spend you time farming something more profitable?

Oh i didn't want to forget that before you goto Norg atleast bring 10 rusty leggins with you they were only 1k each on my server and the scroll he gives you sells for 130k!!! If you have the room and still need that extra push of fame you can also bring 10 pairs of rusty subligars with you too(these are a bit more expensive but the scroll will pay for the cost if need be). Both of these scrolls sell nicely and seem to give you a lot more fame then 4 necks did. I dunno if that will help you guys much but I try ^^.
overkill

somehow i was under the impression that I had to do 33 quests.... i'm not sure who told me that lol. so i turned in 132 zinc ores. the rice balls came down to 150 flat. needless to say, had no trouble doing the quest after that---but i think i spent 40k more than i needed to.

My Suggestion:

well this quest went fairly esay for me. First off its nice to have anythign 50+ to do this quest. I had my 50 PLD .. . circle blade did wonders for slaughtering 7+ yagudo in one swing. head to giddeus and kill as many as you can. I had a low reserve as fare as money goes but when i got to like 84 necklaces i sad crap on this and went to bastok. did the ore mission gave (bought every single one for 1k) him like 45-50 ores and then checked my riceballs wich where a nice 153. Angels sang when i saw that price. ran to norg and quested. all in all wasnt that bad, took at least 10hrs tho kind of a pain, bt when your done its worth it

Yeah, so I have a tough time navigating Sea Serpent Grotto and just by "coincidence" the only place to get it is in Sea Serpent Grotto itself =P

Here's a link that has a highly detailed map as well as the location of the door where you need to use the Silver Beastcoin:

easily the hardest ninjitsu-scroll quest yet still so simple!Just sneak and invis and follow the right wall leaving Norg and it leads you right to key item Sea Serpent Statue!Turn around and follow left wall back to norg to return the statue for Utsusemi:ichi.

I farmed zinc ores (very slowly) by killing giant grubs in Dangruf Wadi. I farmed other stuff as well to kill time (may as well make some gil with my lost time). Took me a few weeks, but that was partly because I was getting utsu for my mule.

Not sure how many zinc ores I turned in, but I hit 148 for Rice Balls in Neptune's Spire. Unlocked both the Utsu/Tonko quests. Actually mining up more zinc with another mule.

The instructions on this quest are a bit vague. There's a room before the "large puddle and a waterfall." That has a puddle as well. And the "continue moving straight" is hard when the path you follow leads straight to the mythril door. And the path to the silver door is a left turn.

Still, I sorted it out eventually and gots me my scoll.

Dropped in price on Seraph from 1 mil to 450k as of 9/16/06. So much for getting a Sniper's Ring. Yar.

Happy hunting.

Because I was stupid and sold all my ninjitsu scrolls, I've redone them all on a mule.

Mule started in Windurst, did no prior quests/missions except for the chocobo quest at level 20 - did NOT have Tenshodo invitation. Bought the airship pass.

Traded exactly 216 yagudo necklaces, which unlocked Tonko, Dokumori, and Kurayami quests. Did Kurayami, which got me enough fame to unlock the other three.

No idea of the price of rice balls.

One note to anyone doing utsusemi quest as a low level: sahagins aggro through doors ^^;

I'm, or I should say I was a lvl 14 NIN. I got sick of not having shadows. So I got a THF with treasure hunter 2. It took about 3 days, almost 2 or so hours each day to get about 250 necklaces from giddues. I bought about 50-75 of them from the AH.

I went down to the norg and spoke to the guy, I was surprised when I got the quest. thought I didn't have enough fame for it yet...

This is what I did:

I'm a 61 whm/30 blm. so I zoned into the grotto and casted escape. I went back in and took lefts, and lefts tell I got to that door. Then (facing the door) took another left. Now the tricky part is from there. The guide here wasn't very specific. You'll enter a large area that has a very large pond in the distance, don't mind this area, just go to your left side and enter the nearest cave. Keep going, and you'll see the waterfalls, go inbetween these two waterfalls. And you'll see a door (it's a blank label and doesn't look like a door). Check it once, it wont really say anything... Keep checking it over and over. the message should change. Then place the silver beast coin on it. You'll get it back. Then the door opens.

From what I remember there's one or two ledges, the first one is on the left. So be careful. You'll come up to a large edge (you might see a sea bonzes, they look like sea horrors or gaint squids) This will confirm where you hop off the ledge. there's also a cave to the left of this edge (don't be fooled you don't have to go futher just jump off). go straight, always go straight don't turn anywhere. You'll arrive to another unmarked door (you need to remove invisible) There might be another or maybe two of those sea bonzes. amoung other monsters. Go left and follow the wall for a few steps. You'll see a table that has pots and books. Press on the top of it. The cut scene will begin. When it's over warp your @ss out of there. NOTE: set HP in the norg if you dont have escape. Bring instant warp scrolls.

Talk to the guy from the norg and he gives you the scroll. Sell it from 500k to 1 million or use it. Think carefully, you wont get another chance at it.

Well, i'm Hero San d'Oria fame and Gobbie Bag VI fame level+ (forgot the level) in Jeuno, with Rice Balls at 155, and 39 on CHR, so, i'm about to go try this. I'll let you know the results.

Just so you know it doesn't matter what fame you have in Sandy or Jeuno for that mater. This is all tenshodo so you can have hero fame in Sandy, Bastok, Windy and Jeuno and still not get this quest.

I was able to get this quest after trading 100 zinc ores and doing the tonko, dokumori, and kurayami quests. I didn't get norg fame any other way.

I solo'd this quest without one sneak or invisible at lv.59SAM, if you go the right way the only thing that should agro you at this level are the "sea bonze" there are only three of them, all very easy to avoid and never technically in your way. quest was very easy
Mythril Beastcoin
# Jun 15 2006 at 4:24 AM Rating: Decent
This quest is really easy actually when:
-Turned in all the necklaces/ores you need for fame to start the first of the few ninjitsu quests.
-You did the the Tonto, Kurayami, Dokumori: Ichi quests.
-Got your trusty stack of oils/sneak
-ffxi-atlas should take care of the rest

This quest doesn't require mythril bstcoin. I went and spent 3k on that. Oh well.
