Description

Laisrean asks you to fetch an item for him in Sea Serpent Grotto. Make sure you have your Silver beastcoin, then enter the Sea Serpent Grotto from Yhutanga Jungle. Take every left you come to. Eventually you will get to an Ornamented Door. That means you're going the right way. Take a left when you get to the door. Continue down this path and take the next left you find. You will arrive at a room with a large puddle and a waterfall. Continue moving straight until you find an unmarked door. Examine this door until you get the message, "You see some silver shavings near the indent on this wall." Trade your silver beastcoin to open the door.

You will be greeted by some pugils when you open the door. Move forward without falling off of any ledges. When you arrive in the room at (H-8), hop off the ledge. Move through this path. You will get to a room identical to the one you just fell from. Keep going forward and you will arrive at the unmarked door to the treasure room. Examine the ??? to recieve the Sea Serpent Statue. Return to Laisrean with the item after the cutscene.

A friendly word of warning ^^;

If you do, for some reason end up at the gold door instead of the silver door and need to recast "Sneak" on yourself, look to see whether or not the elemental symbol is up. I got killed by a water elemental (which was on the other side of the door ;-;) and I just don't want that to happen to anyone else.

Thanks ^^ If my info helps, please [Help me out!] and rate me up. Thanks! :D
where to drop?!
# Oct 28 2004 at 11:56 AM Rating: Good
Just for someone that having no idea where to drop...
As you follow the instruction and enter the silver coin room, just keep going up the ramp
you will see a drop on your left, dont drop.
keeping going the tunnel then you see a fork, go straight.
after the fork you will see a drop on your right, drop right there.
then go straight, you see a drop on your left, dont drop.
when you keep going along the tunnel for a short distance, you will see the door, and there comes your cut scene!!
rice balls 163 + some quests is all you need to start utsuse
# Oct 21 2004 at 10:48 PM Rating: Default
rice balls price was 163. i decided to do norg quest to up the fame some more. i did the kurayami, dokumuri, tonko, and jubaku scroll quests, then tried utsusemi and i got it. after completing that, i did the hojo scroll quest just for kicks and completed that. when i was in jeuno after that, i checked rice balls price and it was 160.

do I need a Tenshodo invite to get the quest? My rice balls are at 155 but I cant get a Tenshodo invite. I have done this quest with my main chara, but sold the scroll. I now have farmed enough necklaces AND got my kazham keys to do the quest. But I cannot get a Tenshodo Invite.. so Do I need it?

I really need this for my THF/NIN

tenshodo invite is not part of this quest, it is simply another quest you can do to help increase norg fame a little. buy a scroll off AH and join the ring then sell the other scroll.
Got it at 158g

As a follow up to the post I made yesterday, some of you might find this interesting or helpful. I finally got it... when riceballs were 158 gil for me. I just went and tried to get the quest for the hell of it because I was sick of wasting so much money on it so far. To my surprise, I was able to get the quest.

So obviously, the price of riceballs isn't exactly a good way of knowing how much tenshodo fame you have. The price is influenced by tenshodo fame, of course, but not completely reliant on it. My theory is that fame in the "normal" cities, or maybe just jeuno, makes the tenshodo goods *more* expensive, while tenshodo fame makes them cheaper. Since I have a lot of fame in Jeuno, Sandoria, and Bastok, this would be understandable.

At the very least, can we stop with all the annoying "riceballs need to cost x gil before you can do this quest" rumors?

Same with me. Not sure what the price was, but after doing some yagudo bead runs, I figured what the heck (was traveling to Norg for Zilart c/s anyway). Got the quest, I'll check my r/ball price, but last check it was upper 150s.

Those that had a problem and ended up at the Mithril and Gold door:

The problem is that you (like me) are confusing the "room with puddles" for the lake area you get to first. So when you get to the lake, STAY LEFT, then when you get to the puddles, hug the right. If you get to the Mithril door, then you took a right too early and are on the wrong side of the lake. The link about ninjitsu in the author's sig is helpful.

yes sorry if it was a bit confusing, but if you walk through the grotto and look at each room there is a big difference between the "puddle" and the "lake" fortunately these days you will know your in the "lake" room when you see fisherman in AF there, as the grotto is the new top fishing spots for profit If thats any help to those who arent sure what room they are in ;)

When you see the fishers STAY LEFT you will then come to a room where almost the entire floor is covered in water, just glance right a bit and you will come to the silver coin door

Ok, I've done the zinc ore quest 24 times now (96 zinc ore), as well as the samurai job quest if that counts for anything, but my fame still seems to be extremely low. I understand that 24 times may not be quite enough to start the quest, but riceballs are still 162g for me and all the Tenshodo guys still treat me like crap. Judging from what other people have written here, that just doesn't seem right...

Do I need Windurst fame for this? Do I need to have the ninja job activated? What's wrong?

The guide is great. The only problem I had following it was findint the silver blank wall. Be aware, there is also a gold blank wall. If you are at the Gold blank wall (asking for something gold shining, gold beastcoin) you are at the wrong one. To correct yourself, with your back against the "gold" blank wall, head back out and stay to your right. Follow the tunnel and you'll see a little puddle/stream. Kinda cross it, and you come to a drop off to your left. Do Not drop down as the guide may or may not state. Keep going up the Steep Incline. It will curve left a little with a two tunnels to go. one to your right, and one straight. Go Straight and you will see the "right dropoff." Drop and continue through that tunnel. The second blank door is just ahead.

To sum up the Guide posted here,
1, enter from the jungle.
2, stay left
3, you see ornamental door (keep left)
4, you enter a room with a small lake in the middle (some people fish here)
5, stay to your left when entering the room
6, you will enter a tunnel, go through it
7, keep going straight..and cross the puddle/stream
8, stay along the path..dont fall off first (to your left) drop off
9, go up incline (this curves a bit to your left)
10, keep going straight (do not take the right)
11, drop down the drop off to your right/straigh ahead
12, follow this tunnel to the next blank wall (treasure room)
13, cut scene,
14, suicide hp back or whatever you want.
Not to hard...

This quest was really easy. Use a lvl 1 job and a couple sneak oils, and your set. The only "hard" part was getting fame. I farmed about 172 Yagudo Bead Necklaces and got Utsusemi quest without a problem.
Mithril?
# Oct 10 2004 at 6:26 AM Rating: Decent
Did they change this quest? I was helping a friend do it earlier and it wanted a Mithril Beastcoin, not Silver. When I did it myself it was still silver. Strange..

wrong door, if your at the mythril door, turn around and head almost straight east down the tunnel and across the next room to the silver door

Well got my fame from doing the zinc ore quest and necklace qwuest. Did zinc ore about 13 times and necklaces about 20 times. Worked out well since I just kept all the ore and necklaces while doing missions/farming outside each town to lvl my crafts.

Went to norg and ran through the grotto per instructions above, didnt have a single problem. Now just need to find that dang ??? in the jungle =\
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 04 2004 at 1:53 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) you just have to do each norg fame quest once, and the yag necklas (windy) and zinc ore (bastok) once will suffice for enough fame... or like the guy above said do the rusty quest a few times getting ninja and sam are more then enough base fame.. all i have to say is hahahaha!

bastok npc fame phrase
# Oct 03 2004 at 11:28 PM Rating: Decent
What does the NPC in bastok say when you have reached enough Tenshodo/Norg fame?

BTW I have enough fame to do the Silence of the Rams quest, how many repeats of Yag necklaces do you think I'll need?

Well after being a ****** and checking the price of Sticky Rice instead of Rice Balls and ending up with lvl 6+ fame in Norg I finally did the quest. The best part thought was that I HP'ed in Norg and ran through the Grotto on a lvl 1 job with nothing but a stack of Silent Oils to keep me company. After numerous tells from very helpfull JP players asking if I was lost and lots of o_O as I ran past I made it to the Tresaure Room and got my scroll just as I had to use my last Silent Oil. Final result of said adventure was:

{Utsusemi: Ichi}
{Dokumori: Ichi}
{Tonko: Ichi}
{Kurayami: Ichi}

This is what happened for me:

I turned in 200 yagudo beads, riceballs were 155, but I could not get the quest for this. Speaking with the NPC who tells you your fame, he couldn't even remember my name. Called me "Mich" at first.

I then went back to Neptune's Spire in Lower Jeuno, and did the tenshodo membership quest (just bought an invite to make it quicker). This moved my Norg fame level up, and when I went back, the NPC told me that people were talking about me. Checked back with Laisrean, and then he gave me the quest. Got my scroll, and left a happy man.

Just to state my experience..

Yag Necks quest: 25 Times
Zinc: 15 Times

After doing each 15 times I thought I would have enough, but I didn't even after doing the 2 rusty quests and Tonko: Ichi as well. So I tele'd back and did more Yag's, probably over-killed it but oh well. Didn't stop by to check Rice price, just warped straight back.

And a big thanks to Lienna, using your map and description, had absolutely 0 problems finding the treasure room ^^.

...And now I get to waste thousands of gil on Shihei...yay -.-
