Summary

A certain post is rotated at the meadhouse. Now, it's your turn.

Walkthrough

Once you have completed the quest Painful Memory, proceed to Lower Jeuno and enter the Merry Minstrel Meadhouse. Talk to Bki Tbujhja and she will mention that you need to bring her a vial of Holy Water. Do so, and she says you need to pay your respects to the bard of yesteryear. She tells you to pour the flask of holy water onto a sarcophagus in the Eldieme Necropolis.

To access the necessary entrance to Eldieme Necropolis, head to Beaucedine Glacier and go through the tunnel at H-11, where you zone into Battalia Downs. Once there, enter the Eldieme Necropolis at F-5.

Make your way to the dead-end room at D-4, where you will find the sarcophagus. This room has four Blood Soul mobs that scan as 'tough' to a level 50 bard. Clear the hallway and the room, then rest and recover hp and mp. Your party/alliance should camp at the top of the stairs that leads to the dead-end room.

Trade your holy water to a sarcophagus. This will spawn three skeleton notorious monsters, Owl Guardian, Dog Guardian, and Yum Kimil. You need to destroy these NMs quickly, as you are under a time limit. If you can manage to kill one of the NMs without drawing agro from the others, it is possible that the other two will despawn.

If the NMs despawn before you can kill them, or if you are defeated, nothing will happen when you re-examine your sarcophagus. Wait a few minutes and touch it again, and the NMs will respawn.

Once the NMs have been defeated, re-investigate the same sarcophagus you poured the Holy Water onto to initiate a cutscene. After receiving the Star Ring key item, return to Lower Jeuno and speak again with Bki Tbujhja to receive your Choral Slippers.

Well, let me start off by saying that this is a very boring, very /long/ fight if you plan on trying to solo it without using the zone trick.

I just helped a Japanese player (BRD51/WHM25) do this fight.

I went as PLD75/DNC37.

We went in, cleared the room of the spirits and then the bard popped the skeletons. The bard went down immediately before she could cast lullaby, and before I could claim all three skeletons. Rather than run away and do the whole thing over from the beginning, I fought the monsters.

First, I focused on killing the Owl Skeleton. This took a great deal of time and was quite annoying, as the other two skeletons cast spells and used melee attacks on me. I used no offensive magic during the fight. I made sure to use Quickstep and Box Step on the skeleton to ensure a higher hit rate and damage. My TP remained between 200 and 300 for the majority of the battle. I focused on healing myself with Curing Waltz II and removing negative status effects with Healing Waltz. Don't use Drain Samba. It doesn't work.

Eventually the Owl went down, and next came the dog. If my TP began to run low, I'd cast Flash and Cure IV, then pop Curing Waltz II to keep my HP above 900. Yum Kimil has some pretty effective Ancient Magic, so it's a good idea to keep your HP as full as possible if you see him start to cast it. I found that Freeze was the most devastating of all of his spells.

After the Dog went down, I continued the same strategy on Yum Kimil, using Sentinel and Rampart on occasion to mitigate damage, flash to avoid attacks, and Quick Step and Box Step to enfeeble. I used Healing Waltz whenever I had anegative status effect, Fealty to avoid sleep, and Chivalry when I ran out of MP (This happened twice, thus the entire battle was well over 30 minutes long, but it was pretty cool to solo it.) Eventually, Yum Kimil went down and I raised the Bard, who was rather shocked that I managed the feat, and very happy that she had her Bard Artifact.

This is easily soloable by PLD75/DNC37, but expect it to take a while. I recommend wielding Joyeuse for more TP gain, and Walahra Turban for Haste+5%.

If anyone on the Phoenix server would like to check the validity of this, My name is Lunetta, and the Japanese Bard is Apollonios.

{See you again!}

I have tried this 3 times as 75MNK/NIN, MNK/WHM and MNK/BRD. Been rocked all 3 times. On the 3rd time I killed 2 of them but the Dog Guardian owned me at 20%.
Any tips?

This quest started out poorly for me at first on 75BLM/RDM. Had NPC out, got yag drink, spawned NMs. Was fully buffed up with SS/Blink/Phalanx. NMs made pretty short work of me, but for some reason, I was able to start running away with 33hp left and my NPC managed to ding me with a Cure 3 on my way to the exit, which saved me.

Rested to full, zoned in again and ran back down to the area. Saw Owl Guardian standing there in the hallway going to the sarcophagus, and so I pulled him and killed him. Rested to full again, and went back to the room... no NMs. Clicked on the sarcophagus again, thinking "Oh christ, now I'm going to have to do this again.", but ended up getting the cutscene.

Guess I'm lucky for once.

I'd have to say my number one recommendation would be: go /BRD, bring a light staff. Horde lullaby stuck 100% as WHM70/BRD35. Also bring a WHM with capped club (*'-')b

My first try went badly with me as WHM/BLM and my friend as DRK/NIN. The main NM's enspell was hitting me for 100+ damage and they may have crappy acc, but not against a WHM. 2nd try with WHM/NIN, RDM/NIN and WHM/BRD it was easy.

noob question =P

Where it says "This quest requires Zilart", what exactly does it mean?
noob question =P
# Jul 03 2007 at 7:56 AM Rating: Decent
BAD n00b question. "Requires Zilart" indicates that at least part of this quest takes place within areas added in the "Rise of the Zilart" expansion (the first expansion), and people who SOMEHOW lack that expansion, are not going to be able to reach these areas.
noob question =P

duo'd, playing both 75 rdm and 75 blm/brd.

Pulled all three NMs to the small stairs right outside the room (not to the zone) so I could horde lullaby. With an apollo's staff, I rarely got resisted on the owl/dog guardians.

Spirit taker + thunder IV/III, rdm mostly for heals/debuffs because I stupidly forgot to bring a sword =P The NM didn't sleep from the many horde lullaby spells I cast, so I killed it first. No serious trouble, converted once for safety, but generally an easy fight considering no tank.

I just did the fight yesterday. I had 2 Warriors one at 75 and the other at 74, 2 White Mages 58 & 62, a Black Mage 67, and me as a 50 Bard. We got there and a party popped them finished and Escaped out. We waited a bit, cleared the room of some ghosts that popped. I pooped them and the two Warriors provoked two of the skeletons. The Black Mage slept the other one. I casted Paeon and Ballad on everyone and used finale on Yum Kimil since he seemed to love Ice Spikes. After the two skeletons were beaten and they were going after the last one, I stood at the coffin ready to get the CS when he died. Got it, everyone warped out, got a D2 from the BLM and got the slippers. Ty to those LS members and the two Warriors who volunteered their time to help me.

Went in as MNK75/NIN37. Did not clear a path or clear the room or anything. Popped the mobs then ran back and zoned. Rested up then went back in and pulled whichever one was closest to me: happened to be Owl Guardian. Pulled it back to near zone on stairs and then wailed away. He hit me once for 19 dmg. I Asuran Fisted him for 1555 dmg. It was not very tough.

I was debating on whether or not I was going to actually beat these 3. Everyone made it sound so hard. I went in RDM/NIN and after about 3 minutes I quit using shadows unless I saw AM being casted. Then I timed it so that I had shadows up for the blink to eat AM. This took me 15 minutes to solo and I only went yellow twice... (think Convert 2x)

This fight was a bloody joke. Why people say this is hard is beyond me. I wasted 4k on a charge of RR. I hate myself for it. I think DS might have given me more trouble.. lolDS

Sneaking pulling didn't work for me at all.

Had to fight them twice, I killed both Dog Guardian and Yumi, but the owl guardian depopped and I didn't get the cutscene. The second time I killed all three and got it.

My strategy is this - pop the NM, sic your pet on all 3, then concentrate on Yumi. When your pet is about to die, run toward the zone and recall CC - by now one of the Yumi should be near death. After you killed Yumi the battle becomes easy as neither Guardian cast Ancient Magic, and have poor accuracy.
I can't pop the NMs...

I traded to the mithra and then tried trading the holy water to a sarcophogus... Nothing happened... Anyone know a reason? I'm pretty sure I don't have to be on BRD to trigger the NMs according to all these posts. But did I miss something between trading the holy water to the mithra and trading the holy water to a sarsophogus?

seems like you didn't wait long enough, same thing happen to me i just log the next day and NM poped when i trade, and btw solo this as mnk with NPC was easy. aggroed all three, but one advice i can give ya is kill Yumil Kilmil first which the one that will cast ancient magic the other ones are cake and would probably miss you the whole time.

I solo'd this as NIN75/WHM37. It wasn't easy, but I managed to kill them on my second try ^^

On my first try, I buffed up (Protect 2, Shell 2, Stoneskin, Reraise), got my MP back then drank a Yagudo Drink before popping the NM's. I started killing the closest NM, which was one of the guardians. The fight was pretty easy at the beginning, although I got hit regularly, either because of their AOE TP moves that strip shadows, or by the occasional -GA spell cast by the {Mega Boss}. Unfortunately, I also got hit once by an Ancient Magic, for around 500-600 damage, if I remember correctly. It kinda hurt me. I finished the first guardian, then started attacking the boss, but he had Ice Spikes on, and it pretty much killed me, because of the Paralysis effect. Oh, Yum Kimil also has an additional effect that does pretty high damage (up to 100+ damage, I think - Enfire maybe?). After a while, they killed me, so I waited for them to depop before reraising.

I decided to try again, although I didn't have any drink left to refresh my huge Elvaan MP pool (about 160 mp!). I checked the Sarcophagus again to pop the NM's, but this time I decided to kill the boss first. He didn't open the fight with Ice Spikes, but he did cast it mid-fight. I killed Yum Kimil, then I could kill the 2 guardians, one after the other. The whole fight took about 9-10 minutes, and I finished with 400-500 hp left.

Yes of course its easier to do as a high level but this was a fun fight. I just went and killed these three solo as NIN/BRD. Took myself an au lait kept march or paeon up and then horde lullaby the mobs i wasnt fighting. Killed the named nm first and rinse wash repeat...too fun. Almost as fun as time i killed dark spark at 59 solo xD hope this helps those who are looking for fun and original ways to fight something ^^.

I did this today as 56BRD, 74NIN, 62WHM.

Came in and cleared the room. Popped the NMs, ran to the stairs and hit Horde Lullaby. With light staff the mobs slept every single time I cast it with no resists. The Ninja started off with the main mob, and I just kept sleeping them and debuffing. Took about 3-4 minutes to kill all three.

I recommend this strategy to all.
Easy.

I just duo'ed this easily with NIN75 and BLM75 (both me ^^)

I trained all 3 to the exit, but for some reason, Yum Kimil did not chase me at all (I didn't have sneak on or anything) So I just started whacking them. They have ridiculous accuracy and I never really got hit except by AoE. After killing one of the guardians, I went back to the graves, training the other skellie.

Then I just started slaughtering the main NM and eventually killed them both. BLM/RDM just did some dispel and a few cures, never needed more :)
Can anyone confirm this?

Reading through everyone's victory and/or horror stories, i was wondering--can anyone confirm that it's the Owl Guardian that needs to be killed in order to get the cutscene after the others despawn? From what it sounds like, several people/parties have tried to kill Yum Kimil and let the other two despawn, but to no avail and end up having to do the fight again. As i am getting ready to do this fight, i'd be interested to know if that was the case.

I needed to do this quest for my the rest of my BRD AF. Not as easy as it looks. Got together some friends 75SAM 75THF 63BLM and me 53BRD. We where pretty confindent since we saw it was possible to solo by a level 75.

Anyways we met up in Jeuno and got a Teleport-Vahlz from there. Headed from Xarcabard > Beaucidine Glacier > Batallia Downs > and finally The Eldieme Necropolis (Mazurka made it feel a bit faster). I did get aggro along the way but nothing we couldn't handle.

So we reach the entrance and we head all the way to the dead end room. I tell them to clear out the room and the stairs (That way we won't be bothered during the fight). Finally when everything is clear I tell them to stand back and I Blink and Sneak myself. I go trade the holy water and they spawn. They all link and I run back to the camp (This is not good). The SAM vokes one of them of me and the THF gets another while the BLM heals me back up. The fight is not looking good so far. I use the little MP I have to lend a few Cure IIIs. At some point a Lich links with the NMs (Probally due to my low HP). Then the BLM somehow gets hate and he dies (It's always the BLM that dies first). Now the fight is really starting to look ugly. We have one member down and still have yet to kill a NM. Now I start having doubts about our victory and start making preparations to zone. I gather up a few MP and cast sneak on myself so I wont get aggro during our escape (I'm so smart). I tell the party I'm zoning and they should follow. I travel a few feet away only to find death (I forgot they aggro to low HP). Ok now only the SAM and THF are alive. The SAM dies taking one of the NMs with him. The THF uses Flee and lives to fight another day (Such a coward).

We are left with three bodies and no one around to raise (Not the best scenario). The area that we were in is very secluded so we doubted anyone would be willing to come and Raise us. Well I was not willing to give up so easy and I told them to hold on while I came back with my RDM to raise them (Oh why didn't I bring my RDM in the first place). I H.P. and try to make it back as fast as I can. I get lost along the way with no map and find myself in Ranguemont Pass(I travel mostly by memory). At this point I start remembering how much of a pain the Beaudecine Glacier is to travel through. I quickly find the wrong turn I took and I'm back on the right pass. I get back to the place and rush to Raise them with minutes to spare.

We rest up and wait for the weakness to wear off (Oh yea, round two is ours). Now having my RDM I feel confident we will handle the fight with ease. Once we are all healed up I buff up with all my defensive spells and sneak in hopes that they will not link this time. To my dissapointment sneak does not work this time either (Damn you guide, you betray me again). Ok so now once again I have all three of them on my back. Again the SAM vokes one of me. This time however I am not all beat up and I am able to hold one of until they get done killing the other NMs (I love my RDM). The THF tanks the hard NM while we wait for the SAM to finish his NM off. I keep my Stoneskin up while the SAM uses his 2hr on Yum Kimil after he killed one of the guardians. The SAM and THF quickly finish it off with the BLM Magic Bursting of the Skillchains. It is all downhill from here as we fight the last one. We all celebrate while I go check the tomb again for the cutscene and get my ring.

This quest might not be as easy as it looks but with some planning and a little help it can be done. Also dont expect Sneak to work when planning your strategy (Did not work for me). However, I do belive that only Yum Kimil aggros initially at the beginning. If somehow you are able to pull just Yum Kimil without linking the others I belive that he is the only one you need to kill to complete this quest (If you got the skills go for it). I think it differs in which tomb you have to trade the holy water (First on the right did not work for me). At least two level 75 or three level 70+ I recommend going with you for this fight (More if your can get them). Anything less than that is possible but you will have a hard time. Well I hope my experience helps some of you who are hoping to do this for your BRD AF. Good luck to all of you. Rate me up (Please)!

I really should have read the posts below the Quest before I went in for <Full Attack>, but didn't.

Anyways, I solo'ed (kinda) this as 75 RDM/NIN. Had my NPC with me (Lev 61, G-Katana #7). Had decent DD gear(Joytoy/Dusk gloves/pants/Ohat), used Taz Taco for the DEF+. I took a beating.. but ended up killing all 3. Had to use convert after killing the first 2.. AOE killed my NPC, but I called again for the last non-mage NM.. Could have easiely solo'd that one.

Only reason I did this was so I can do the next AF for BRD and actually get something useful for BRD. Is it just me, or is this piece of AF junk?

I just soloed this quest last night as a SMN72/WHM36. It was definately a rush, especially since I prepped with Reraise/StoneSkin/Blink/Aquaveil. Then popped them. We'll they all attacked me immediately, I lost SS/B fast, ran to Zone with 83 HP. But before I did I Dia-ed the Dog Gaurdian. Zoned. Divine Sealed a Cure III then went back in.
Killed him with Carby, and meleed using Spirit Taker (took 2 Carbys) then Brought out Titan and used Mountain Buster or whatever the 70 BP is and that wiped him. Then ran down assuming that the other 2 despawned (this was a period of 5 mins or so) They were still there, I aggroed them, the one Yum Kimil started casting Freeze already having 280HP I thought it was a sure death. I ran and he followed interupting giving me time to summon Carby.
Took 2 Carby's we took him down for 20 XP. :) Then got my CS and went to Jeuno. Easy as cake, I enjoyed the fun of near death more than anything. Good luck to anyone who solo's. It's fun!
