Summary

Once you've found a Tavnazia bell in the Eldieme Necropolis, journey to Fei'Yin and commence the battle against the undead.

Walkthrough

Note:You must have completed Messenger from Beyond - WHM AF1 and Prelude of White & Black - WHM AF2 in order to activate this quest.

In Chateau d'Oraguille, head to Prince Regent's chamber at H-8 and examine the door. A cutscene will begin, and you will be asked to obtain a Tavnazia Bell.

To get a bell, head to Eldieme Necropolis and kill Dark Stalkers, which come in the form of Dark Stalker black mages, Dark Stalker rangers, Dark Stalker thieves and Dark Stalker warriors.

When you have a bell, head to Fei'Yin, which is accessed from the northeast corner of Beaucedine Glacier. You will get another cutscene when you enter Fei'Yin. Head to J-10 on the top floor and trade the Tavnazia Bell to the ??? to spawn the notorious monster Altedour I Tavnazia. Kill the NM shadow to receive a Tavnazian Mask.

Return to Northern San d'Oria and head upstairs in the cathedral. Trade the Tavnazian Mask to Narcheral to receive your Healer's Briault.

when I did this, my set up was
58WHM/BLM (me)
75NIN/WAR
75RDM/BLM

I was upfront meleeing at first, but quickly noticed that this was gonna be a sit-down-stand-up-fight for me and the RDM. Don't think me or the RDM used any food; NIN probably did, but nothing special. It definitely got scary at times, but we left victorious.
Did it with 5 and 6

I just did this with WHM75 WAR75 DRG75 SMN75 BLM74 DRG70 WHM61 and it was major overkill. Nobody got hurt at all cause of WAR's shadows and Garuda tanking. Everyone else just wailed on it. Took less than 2 minutes.
need to be whm?

Well,I was scared about this NM like, really badly>_<. But it was almost as easy as an exp mob.. Ok DDeath sucks but if you have mage that cures fast,it shouldnt be a real problem. Here is set up we had:

66 BLM (me)
66 WAR
62 RDM
75 SMN
60 WHM (or around that lvl)
55 SMN

So basically with Refresh, the 2 SMN just sent avatars on the NM and Cicatriz(WAR)with few Rampage. After poping it and buff, the WAR got all the hate from Rampage so we were basically 3mages constantly curing him (but no it wasn't that constant and bad but:P!)He got down pretty easly.

I suggest to stay way more in back since Sleepaga is a bish. If ye choose to go with melee, try to make Light SC since they weak to Fire and Light. Finally the WAR died but only because Utsusemi was down, and DDeath hit 3times in row for 300+ damage each so :P!It's nothing we could help no matter what. Don't try to Silence it,almost impossible>_<!

So good luck to any White Mage that wanna get AF body=) Go for it,it isn't -that- bad. But I'm happy I did it with 2 SMN and RDM to keep them refresh because with melee it must be hard to keep they all full HP since DDeath hurt really anyone<.< But thanks to Cicatriz,Sephelia,Ksayyah,Celestria and Crail. ^_^

So yeah, i just did this tonight, and after all the horror stories on this board, i was abit nervous, especially with our setup, but we rocked em. Now for the more shocking part: the setup. This was done as a duo, by duo i mean, me, 55WHM/27BLM, an the coolest guy ever, a 75RDM/37NIN. While i stood way back, he kicked its @$$. All i did was cast cure 1 to wake him up when he got put to sleep, poisona for poison 2, Erase for bio 3, and regen 2 when his health went down to 1/2. So for all the nay sayers out there, this thing can be killed by 1 person with minimal help. Thanks to Equilibrus of Lakshmi for the help.

Well, tried to do this today. Haven't done it before so didn't really know what to expect.

75 SAM/NIN
70 RNG/NIN (me)
75 WHM/NIN

Pop it and it poison II's. No biggy, shadows absorb.
SAM opens up with Tachi: Kasha, WHM unleashes Black Halo for a nice Light SC and I solo Sidewinder.

Things are going well until the **** drops a Sleepga II on us. It hits everyone and hard. The SAM has hate so wakes up first and 2hrs. Takes off about 10% of it's HP with all the SCs... it's crazy how much HP he has. Of course with WHM asleep SAM dies pretty quick.
It then proceeds to take me on. I do what I can to hurt it before it kills me too.

Wakes the WHM up. This impressive. It was at only about 70% when the WHM started soloing. He borrowed a friends Kraken club so it was a good show. Got the thing down to 10% when it Stonega III'd him and followed up with a DD right after. 900+ dmg which is more than the WHM's total HP and down he goes.

Meh... Stupid sleepga.

Moral of the story? Bring poison potions or more people. =\

Well, beat it yesterday.
75 RDM/NIN
75 WHM/NIN
73 BLM/WHM
70 RNG/NIN (me)

Fight went very smooth. No Sleepga II this time. Other nukes were taken care of easily.
Lots of Light chains. =)

Yay, 4/5 AF down, 1 to go (damn you Garlaige, DAMN YOU!).

I've helped on this quest before and remember it being pretty nasty. But was able to complete it last night without much trouble. and yes, once you have opened the quest as whm, the bell will drop no matter your job and you can get the Fei'Yin cs and pop the mob as a different job.

Party Setup:

75SAM/37NIN (tanked)
65MNK/32WAR (to voke it off me initially)
67RNG
67BLM/33WHM (me, completing the quest for my lvl 50whm)
58SMN (gave melee stoneskin and hastega)
72WHM/25SMN (blinkage and keeping sam alive^^)

Altedor spammed Dimensional Death from the start, tho a little less so than I've seen before. We got lucky in only seeing one -ga spell too (Waterga II i think). Sam solo'd a fragmentation > light sc (fire 3 mb). whm and mnk hexa strike > dragon kick a few times for another light sc (lots of fire 3 mb's) I ran out of mp (using marron glace) when Altedor was almost dead, and simply kneeled to heal mp for warps as others kicked his butt. I only cured once, or rather stunned mob and cure III sam when -ga spell was used to give him a chance to get shadows back up.

only spell doing anywhere my normal damage was MB'ing fire 3, but even that was resisted to a degree. I stuck Slow and Paralyze at beginning of fight, and my enfeebling magic isn't capped. Big thanks to Snow, Bruce, Heavy, Yong, and Jin for helping me out.^^

Changed back to whm to trade mask back to Narcheral in Sandy, so not sure if you actually have to or not.

Edit:

Note the bell I duo'd with a 66PLD from my ls as my 67BLM. Got the bell off the 4th or 5th stalker. We stayed down there to level our NPCs against them, tho, since the stalkers still conned Easy Prey to me.

Cutscene issue?

Alright, this might have been mentioned, discussed or been well known.. However; I went to help my GF who is a 50WHM get this peice of armor and we had some issues:

Should you have activated mission 5-1 and have this quest activated as well, when you zone in you'll get the cutscene for 5-1 only. If you get only that CS you'll not be allowed to spawn the NM, you will have to rezone and get the second cutscene.

We stood there for 15 min patrolling forums and looking for something to solve the mystery of why she couldnt pop it when she had met all requirements.

Hope this helps!

the bell was the worst part of this quest really. Had to get together an Eldieme Necropolis skill up party for it. Luckily a 70 thf/nin came alone for some skill up. So off we went needing 1 bell and 3 keys. We dropped down at the hole at G-8 and camped at the Hume bones. It was the best spot IMO, 4 dark stalkers and a bunch of key mobs around, a win-win situation for everyone. After an hour, with Dark Stalkers taking precedence over key mobs for killing, we had gotten 2 keys and were down to 5 party members left. I had all but lost hope when FINALLY a dark stalker dropped the bell. Then we all left.

after some whining about not wanting to risk losing my bell, i asked my 75 pld friend if he was available and he was, so i started shouting.

I fought the NM with this party set up

75 rdm/blm
75 pld/war
70 thf/nin
67 whm/blm
66 blm/whm (me)
63 whm/blm

It was very easy. Pld was constantly drained of mp but it wasn't a problem. Only time we got a lil worried was when the Thf took hate and got a DD on him without utsusemi up. Other than that, very simple. Just be careful when you spawn him. They were trying to start with a SATA so when stoneskin dropped i lost 300 mp -.-

if i had to rate the AF3 fights in order from easiest to hardest ones, (that i've fought) it'd be blm, whm, drk, pld, war

We were doing 5-1 in Fei'yin so we thought we could give this NM a try.

After 5-1 was finished we popped this mob with 10 members. Big mistake. Since many 5-1 members were just in their 50s... we got wiped out.

PLD(me, 60), MNK (66), RDM x2(60+. 50+), BLM x2(55, 61), WHM x2(50+, 66), and THF x2(both 50s).

Mistake was There was no RDM for the other mage party. So near the end, Mages were running out of MP. It was tough to grab hate off the MNK as a PLD. Even after Invincible, MNK would grab hate in less than 4 hits. I used standard party hate grabbing method, Voke, flash, cure, shield bash, etc.

Dimensional Death is a killer. The nm would cast DD after WHM cures the MNK.

We got very close, maybe a tick of life left. Only hope is that we had higher level tank and another DD.

BTW, we found out that if you lose this fight, we need to get another bell.... ><
ouch >.<

This Is Sad People
# Sep 08 2005 at 2:43 PM Rating: Decent
You this is really sad people. I cannot believe that to get help anymore, you HAVE to pay someone AT LEAST 50k before they will listen to you. You know, I help people out when i can if i am not busy even if they don't offer me a thing. What ever happened to just helping a fellow adventurer out these days. People this game was built on doing things together, why do you think that most of the quests REQUIRE full parties, i mean come on. A person should NOT have to give up 50k+ in gill just to get some help with a quest. I really need help with this quest. I was doing shouts in jeuno politely asking for help from those who were bored or had nothing else better to do, did that for about 20 mins with no response. i did ONE shout telling that i would give 50k for help. I had people jumping all over that request like gil was goin out of style. I then told ALL the people that responded to my second request (the one offering gil) to kiss my butt cuz they were only helping for the gil. I got a few choice words from them because of it, but hey, isn't that what the /blacklist is for lol. Anyway i just had to share my two cents with you on this subject.

Don't have to pay for help, just have patience to get it. I have never once paid for help aside from an emergency teleport. They jump all over the gil cause our economy on Bahamut isn't the greatest. ^.^;

Granted, it took me a lot longer than 20 min to get help for my AF, but all it takes is that one really helpful high level who brings 3-4 friends, and then they each get another friend... you get the idea. Patience is the key on our server.

i love yer lil comment at the bottom ProphetAO. I don't think i have ever seen one person take two seconds to pause while running and screaming for help lol. 9/10 i watch them die cuz they didn't stop. what else is really funny is when i train a bunch of stuff in west ron that only links, like the beetles, or the fungi, higher lvl's will yell at me to stop b4 they even check me, or they will yell at em and tell me to call for help or something lol. one time two guys was walkin while i was doing this, the first guy yelled at me to stop while his bussy examined me and told his friend in say mode that i was fine and i was too high for the area lol that was so funny. It is also funny watching all the noobs at the zone run for their lives when you got a big ol train that will never attack them. My friends and i get such a big kick out of that lol. I don't mind when ppl train mobs, just as long as they do not zone them, especially ones that aggro. That i have a huge problem with. If you are gonna make a train, you better be able to kill it, that is all i have to say. the one night i made sure there was nothing up in orcville (gheslba outpost) and i trained almsot the whole entire zone's worth of orcs all the way to the bottom. I must have had like 40 orcs on me that night. when i zoned them and came back, it was so funny watching them all her back to their spots in single file. Anywho, i better shut up for a while before i get myself into trouble lol.

You've prolly done this by now, but I think it should be here for reference purposes for others, as this goes for all jobs' artifact quest.

AF1 quest is a pre-req, but it is not the ONLY one. :: pokes alla ppl :: ALL AF3 quests require you to have completed AF1 and AF2 and either started or completed the hands quest. (I can't remember exactly, since it's been quite a while since I did my last full set of AF.) The other 2 coffers are not technically quests... just popping a coffer after you've started the hands quest (which you can do after AF1 and hitting lvl 50).

If a RDM went into that room that was on that quest for their AF he'll spawn. He's not (technically) a force spawn in the sense of trading an item to a ???. Miser spawns by a RDM having that AF quest active and walking into the room.

That's one heck of a tough break. :-/ /comfort

I've been shouting in Jueno for 3 days for help with this on Lakshmi, and getting 0 help, even though I've done enough teleports to earn over 100k (which I spent on scrolls)
I think any and every whm trying to do these should refuse to help anyone until we get some help
I also think SE really messed up by forcing you to need help with these AF quests...I think they should have been soloabble as a private mission for the specific class

I hate this quest. The bells NEVER drop for me, and when it did, I gathered my pt (50ish RDM who was there for Miser Murphy, me (57WHM), Judoh (75RDM who was planning to solo), Pixymisa (70WHM) and headed off to fei'yin. We do the Murphy bit first, then head over to the ??? spawn. I pop it and Judoh starts to take it down. Slowly... It goes on and on, and looks VERY good. At about this much HP ( |..,..,.) the guy starts to spam Dimensional Death, and I mean EVERY DAMN MOVE. Judoh dropped down to 600, then died. There were others watching us and we allianced to help take it down before it got to that stage. The alliance MNK went next, followed my the WAR, Dimensional Death one by one. Smacked me over and with its MP Drain effect gave me 0MP. Sleepga II, no MP to cure or curaga, we get picked off one by one. It all was over, everyone wasted, and the ******* NM at (|..,..,..) health. Now I need to somehow find another bell.. **** THIS QUEST

Kletain (a whm and lvl65bst) and me (Kenwei lvl69 bst) duoed this NM with no problems at all. The fight took 30mins~ and a crap load of bats. Every chance we got we used call beast since dimensional death deals 400-600dmg on CCs whereas it deals 700-1k dmg to the bats. If anyone else wants to try this make sure you bring a stack of CCs and make sure to pull the NM down to the basement where the underworld/camazotz bats spawn. Most of the fight consisted of charming bats to fight the NM until one died and we would heel the other bat till we got 2nd bat to keep him bizy. Kletain got hit about twice so bring some juice since other then dealing 100-300dmg each hit this NM also is able to drain 150-300mp from you as an additional effect of it's weapon.

I finally took a break from my 73 PLD and went for this quest for my WHM. My LS said this fight would be hard so I went prepared. Alliance set up included: 73PLD(me),75SMN,72MNK,70WHM,58WHM, 60SAM,56RDM,70DRK.

After spending hours in jeuno finally getting help we headed to Fei`Yin. We cleared the room from shadows, buffed, and the mages fully rested.

Popped the NM and unleashed WS after WS on him. Fight lasted no longer than 6 minutes. The only person who went into yellow was the MNK who used Meditate + Asuran Fights. Paragon of White Mage Excellence baby!^^
we will win!
