Summary

You must defeat a powerful Yagudo in Castle Oztroja. The Yagudo in question can be lured out with a bottle of Yagudo drink.

Walkthrough

''Note:Before you can get this quest you must complete both Ghosts of the Past - MNK AF1 and The First Meeting - MNK AF2.

Ayame in the Metalworks asks you to kill a powerful Yagudo in Castle Oztroja and recover the feather he drops as proof. To get him to spawn, you need to trade a Yagudo Drink to a ???. The ??? is deep inside of Castle Oztroja.

How to get there:

Map 1

  • Enter on the bottom floor at F-8, make your way to the Trapped Door at I-8. One of the two levers (random for each alliance) opens the trap and the other opens the door. Have someone use one of the levers and run back in case the trap opens (a mage with Escape is good for this in case they fall in), once you figure out which lever opens the door, have everyone enter and head up the stairs to J-8.

Map 2

  • Enter at J-8 you want to get to the Four Lever Door at F-8. First, head west and south to H-10, then west and north to G-9, when you enter the large open area at G-9 head east into the small circular room, then take the north exit and head west across the bridge to the door. Up to this point at level 60 you should have no aggro. You should now be at the Four Lever Door, flip the switches until you find the combination that opens the door (changes every day). Enter the corridor, at this point mobs will start to aggro level 60 characters, invisibility will get you past the Yagudos. Head west along the corridor and follow it as it turns south, now head up the stairs at F-9

Map 3

  • This map is straight forward enter at F-9 and exit at H-11. In the room at H-9, be careful to avoid the Yagudo Parasites in the pool.

Map 4

  • Congratulations you have arrived. Head north to H-8, the ??? is at the first torch after the corridor widens.

Preparing for the fight:

It is important to clear the Yagudo out of the immediate area of the torch first. If there are no Yagudo around when you arrive, wait for them to pop and kill them. You do not want them to spawn in the middle of your fight. You will see Yagudo Assassins (64-72), Flagellants (62-66) and Conductors (63-67). Once the spawns have been cleared, the Monk should trade the Yagudo Drink to the ??? at the torch, this will spawn Huu Xalmo the Savage.

Huu Xalmo the Savage is a monk and will use 100 fists in the fight. You can elemental seal & sleep him, have a Paladin use Invincible or just spam cure your tank when he does this, the choice depends on party make up. He also has a very high counter rate (my opinion: I can only counter mobs I am facing, so you should be safe if you are on the side away from the tank) so everyone will take damage. Once Huu Xalmo the Savage is dead, the monk should lot on the Xalmo Feather as this is the item required for Ayame.

Head back to Bastok and talk to Ayame again to receive your Temple Hose and learn what True Strength really is.

I look in my quests bar to find that i didnt activate the quest; ; 3 days later i went to do it again w/ quest active. VERY easy fight. brought along a 75 PLD and a 75 BLM. was overkill lol

Yeah, my question is: Can I switch to another higher leveled job to go do the fight once I have the quest activated?

soloed this as a 75pld/rdm. yea that's right pld/rdm. took 57mins total, but very easy. equipment setup was kaskara, Ice shield, O-hat, SH, Valor gloves, stotic earrin, cassie earring, bomb queen ring, vener ring, gigant mantle, ocean sash, adaman cuisses, gallant leggins, parade gorget. used sole sushi for the fight. stoneskin only wore off twice, main because of time. even without stoneskin the NM was only hitting 5-8 damage when it did hit. it missed me alot even with hundered fist ( which didn't even drop stoneskin) it missed me at least 50% of the time. got 2 links which went down pretty fast. in total with pld/rdm i took 300 damage.. and that was when the 2 adds came. when it 2 hred it spamed ice spikes on it self when did 15 damage per activation. when going as a pld to tank or solo this i highley recomend using ice shield. at least 30% of hundred fists was paralyzed.

Just did this as rdm/blu a little while ago. Tav taco, cocoon, and the appropriate -DMG% gear (genbu's etc.) had him hitting for 0 damage with just phalanx up. It's a rather lengthy fight (took me a little over twenty minutes with a friend controlling adds), but ridiculously easy. See a reply post I made a page or two down about equipment used and strategy.

Solo - ed this as Nin75/Mnk37, pretty easy, took on adds as well, took maybe about 20-25 minutes, Tanked basically the whole thing using Optical Hat, Scorpion Harness, Seiryu's Kote, Corse Cape, Ethereal Earring + Suppa. kept Hojo, Kuryami, and Jubaku on for most of the fight.

After a little while /shouting and begging for some high levels to help, some good new friends came to the rescue. Since everyone in my LS was too busy to help me, these guys came to my aid. The setup was like this: me(56 MNK), 75 RDM, 75 MNK, 75 NIN, 75 whm and 75 blm.

We got throught it smooth except for the BLM that somehow got hit till death. (;_;) <<i'm still trying to figure out how that happened>> but oh well... thanks guys from my new LS: Chobits

Solo'ed it today 75 rdm/blm. Took about 40 minutes. Had around 3 adds that weren't too bad to handle. Just bind it during Hundred Fist.

I don't belive you.

I fought this NM tonight, PLD73, SAM75, BLM75 (BLM and SAM with a lot of merits) and even with the three of us continuously magic bursting for 1700+ and nuking him with DoT and Tier IV spells, it still took almost twenty minutes to kill.

A single burst of 1700 did about 3% HP. There is no way a RDM/BLM could possibly solo THIS MUCH HP in that short amount of time.

I just did this as a 75 RDM/BLU using a semi-ok gear set (most of the same gear as the RDM/BLU used below), and it was cake. Between my friend's MNK/DNC and my RDM/BLU the whole fight took about 15 minutes. He never even scratched my RDM/BLU!

So could a RDM/BLU do it solo, plus handle adds in 40 minutes... I'll have to agree, that's entirely possible. A 75 PLD, SAM, and BLM however should of been able to kill him in way less than 20 minutes.

You don't believe they did it in *forty minutes*? That's a reeeeally long time, especially given the fact that a rdm can hit it for 50-75 per swing with an additional 18-19 damage on enspell. Throw in joyeuse and appropriate solo equipment, and forty minutes is totally believable with adds.

I just did it on rdm/blu for my 59 monk, and it took 23 minutes. Yeah, he has like 40-50k hp, but he also hits extremely weak. I popped a tavnazian taco, cocoon, phalanx and protect4 - He hit me for 0damage per hit without stoneskin with an occasional crit of varying damage depending on shield block. I didn't even bother binding it through Hundred Fists because it hit for 0 every time. I can reset my memories and fraps a video of it for you if you'd like, but it's honestly not that difficult if you don't have to worry about adds.

-------------------------------------------
Weapon: Joyeuse
Shield: Genbu's Shield
Head: Walahra Turban
Body: Scorpion Harness
Hands: Duelist's Gloves
Legs and Feet: Wise braconi / pigaches... I don't have rdm gear anymore. D:
Neck: Chivalrous Chain
Ear1: Ethereal Earring (lol... I was expecting this to be more difficult and mp to be an issue, but it wasn't.)
Ear2: Loquacious Earring
Ring1: Jelly Ring
Ring2: Jaeger Ring
Back: Amemet Mantle +1
Waist: Swift Belt

Defense (With cocoon, taco, pro4): 606
Attack: 306
-------------------------------------------

Only way I could see it taking you 20 minutes to kill with pld, sam, blm is if you had to keep disengaging to handle adds. A friend happened to be there leveling his NPC and coffer key hunting when I got there, so he killed them for me. It's totally believable that it took this person 40 minutes to solo on rdm/blm while controlling adds.

(Now that I think about it - He has a huge counter rate, so likely your SAM friend wasn't doing all that much damage outside of WS. RDM with joyeuse and haste and the limited 9% haste gear I was wearing attacks quite a bit faster and probably for not much less damage. >.>)

if you can't tell by the random misspelling this is ferque form quetz server (lost my orig account) and i just duo'd this with a 70 pld, We would melee it on opposite sides (and i can confirm he cannot counter backwards) and oh btw im 74rdm/37nin, anyway i clear room pop it and get reayd for a long fight, he counted me 2/3 attack rounds and was a ***** to kill, hundred fists wa snp, <3 chainspell bidn grav, linsk got annyoig but the pld covered them faster than he could solo this nm (which is incredibly slow) anyway 65minutes later im one item closer to mnk af being done and im bout 2 stacks of shihei lighter, basically what im saying is don't have armd solo this for u unless its ABSOLUTEY POSITIVELY the last thing you can do before giving up because people suk badly and won't respoond to your shouts

Duoed this about ten minutes ago, SAM73 and WHM75. We even brought a few Yagudo Drinks incase we failed the first time, but I (the WHM) just ended up using the extra two during the fight so that I wouldn't have to rest so much (Darksteel Maul of justice ftw). XD Not a bad fight at all once you get past the insane HP.
Too Weak

Just thought Id share my experience with this.

PT setup was
75 BLM/WHM
75 NIN/WAR
74 RDM/WHM
73 RNG/NIN
75 WAR/NIN
65 MNK/WAR (me)

Dont ask why I waited so long to get around to doing this, but at my level the Yagudo near the spawn area were EP-DC.

We killed, built TP, then popped NM. Fight was stupid easy. DD stood behind to not take damage from Counter, Ninja had no problem keeping Utsusemi up.

Our original plan was to Sleep him when he used Hundred Fists, but our BLM couldnt get it to stick, so the Ranger used Shadowbind, and we moved out of range. SB stuck for about 45 seconds, so his Hundred Fists wasnt an issue at all.

Second fight we didnt even Bind it, the Ninja just took his beating like a man.

No deaths, no one even into Yellow HP.

Easy NM with good help and smart players.

Another good strat for Tanks that are lower level, would be to either not engage, or tank backwards to avoid heavy Counter damage. Gravity, Bind, and kiting it could also work to avoid Hundred Fists as well, but would require more teamwork.

Hope this helps anyone trying to do this quest.

Another party set up example:

MNK/WAR 58
NIN/THF 62
SAM/THF 62 <~Me
PLD/WAR 62
BLM/WHM 70
WHM/BLM 70

The NIN and I were out doing a quest when we got a request from our LS to help with this, which is why we both have THF subbed. We also had minimal gear and tools since we planned to go fishing later. But we went anyway to contribute what we could.

The fight was long but intense and fun. The PLD was obviously tanking but he did not have his two hour up by the time we got up there. I (SAM) was doing SATA Tachi: Yukikaze which probably wasn't a good idea and I kept pulling hate. But having THF subbed was probably a good idea as it helped spread damage and hate around.

About halfway down in health, I went to SATA onto the NIN so that the PLD could rest a bit. With my uber 1337 skills, I managed to be one step off and I TA'ed onto myself right as he used Hundred Fists. >.< But it's probably better that way because he would have shredded the NIN. It was still tough to keep me up, but the WHM and BLM managed to pull it off. Three quarters of the way through his Hundred Fists, the MNK used his Hundred Fists which pulled hate obviously. The mages were so busy curing me and the PLD that they couldn't keep the MNK up as well and he died.

The PLD regained hate and we continued to fight. With about 1/5 of his health left, the mages ran out of mp and the PLD ran out of mp. This time, I successfully SATA Tachi: Yukikaze onto the NIN and he tanked while everyone else rested.

The last sliver seemed to take forever, but we eventually won. Raised the MNK and he got the feather.

This was far easier than I anticipated. I set up a pt to do this for my RL wife that needed it.

The party was:
75SMN
75SAM
74WHM
65SMN
62MNK

easy, very easy. no one broke a sweat, not even when the thing used hundred fists.

All I can say is...Oh....my...god....15 min. fight
Not only is this NM some tough sh*t but god damn this place is a maze?!

Alright on with the story. This place took an hour or so to navigate this place and when we got to the top....we found that the redmage slept a yag earlier and dragged half of Castle O with him.....Lovely...Death for all (Do you need it?) We were all set for the worst...getting to the top and having to HomePoint....Whm casted reraise though...dsaved all our asses then went on to kill the NM twice first taking 15 mins and second taking about 10 mins. For all you aspiring monks out there...BE PREPARED FOR THE WORST!

I just finished this last night with my LS, it took a long *** time but we were never in danger. Had to fight it twice for me and another LS member to get our Feathers.

Our party setup was as follows:

73PLD
71WAR
58MNK <--Me
59MNK
57WHM
66WHM

Basically the biggest issue with this fight is that the NM has like 20K+ HP, so it takes a long time to kill. He wasn't doing much dmg to the PLD, but because of the long fight and no RDM the PLD ran out of MP at least 5-6 times, but he was using Earth Staff so between Spirit taker and Yag drinks he was able to cure/flash enough to keep hate and only lost it a couple times.

Since this fight takes so long I definately would recommend bringing 2 healers, we had 2 WHM but a RDM+WHM combo would probably be best.

With 2 healers and a good tank you should have no problem taking this guy out, it took us about 30 min each fight to take him down, so just be sure to have a good plan in place for links as well, cause they will respawn ontop of you during the fight. ><

Just trio'd him with 2 friends.

75PLD (me)
75BLM
73RDM

Our strategy was very simple... BLM nuked hard enough to hurt him, but stayed just under my hate threshold. His hits averaged 3-20 on me, with a decent amount of counters.

Due to his MNK HP, the fight took us about 8 minutes and no one was ever in any danger.

Elemental seal + bind during hundred fists.

All in all it was kinda boring, but I'm glad to have MNK AF done now.
Down he went :D

I went after Huu Xalmo last night, and here was the setup:

75 mnk/war
68 mnk/sam
60 mnk/thf
60 mnk/war (me)
60 whm/blm
75 brd/whm

I thought that with this setup we'd have a bit of trouble, but I was so wrong it wasn't even funny. We tore through him in a few minutes each time (Since we needed 3 feathers.). My major worry was the fact that he really does have a nasty counter rate, I had 4/5 hits from a Double Attack + Kick Attack come back at me from 80-120 each.

Other than that, no problems at all ^^
