Summary

It is time to obtain your Dragoon artifact pants, but first, you must help someone meet his quota...

Walkthrough

Note: You must have completed A Craftsman's Work - DRG AF1 to begin this quest.

Talk to Ceraulian at the Warehouse at I-10 in Port San d'Oria, and it will trigger a cutscene where he misses his quota, and he requires a Gold Hairpin(which can be crafted or bought at AH) for you to continue the quest.

After trading the Gold Hairpin to him, you must wait 24 Hours in real life before talking to him again. (NOTE: Time could be as short as a 12 hour wait.)

Speak to him after the time limit is lifted, and a cutscene will trigger. You must now go talk to Miaux in front of the Blacksmiths Guild in Northern San d'Oria, who gives you a key item. Take the key item to Ardea in front of the Goldsmiths' Guild in Bastok, and then make your way back to West Ronfaure, to a tower close to San d'Oria and speak with Esca.

You must now go to the small island off Batallia Downs, which you can only reach through the Eldieme Necropolis. Once there, at the edge of the island marks a ??? you can examine. If you examine it, an NM tiger called Sturmtiger attacks your party. Defeat it, examine the ??? again for a key item, and bring that item back to Ceraulian to finish the quest and obtain the Drachen Brais.

I'm a 50DRG but just did this as 69BLU (Superdan/me) and 65MNK (Brosnan) on the Shiva Server.

It's true this tiger does not have the best acc, but when i did not have cocoon up, its hits hurt. Around 130dmg per hit. We had the MNK build up 300% tp before the fight, so he could close a major [Light] on the NM. But as luck would have it, the NM paralyzed me trying to close fusion, so we could not get a light off. Althogh Brosnan still hit over 1k with Dragon Kick.

All in all, most of my mp went to stunning the NM with frypan/head butt and curing Brosnan with magic fruit, since his dragon kick pulled too much hate and he was getting hit hard.

I believe, a THF with good evasion gear and bloody bolts could solo this NM 65+ or a good duo can take it.

Good luck to any who need this, and if you're on Shiva server and need help, feel free to send Superdan a /Tell.

Use Wiki for walkthru's, much more detailed. And YES, all AF quest require you to be on that job and at the indicated level for you to flag the quest.

Kinda Easy....

This AF quest was kinda easy, here's my pt set-up.

Went with, 66 War/nin, 63 Smn/Whm, and 53 Drg/Whm (me).

Now for all that I read about this Tiger having horrible ACC, I found that to be completely false. He hit damn near every single time he swung, and that was just on the 66 War. He hit the War so much that the War couldnt get his Shadows back up, and he eventually gave up trying to. And me and the Smn had to spend alot of time healing the War. The only one who didnt get hit was the Smn. But the entire fight went off without a hitch though, the War did require alot of healing which sucked.

Just don't underestimate the Tiger, even with all these ppl saying how bad his ACC is. Cuz his ACC is pretty good. I also got 9 exp when all was said and done on this guy.

Also for those who don't know the ??? you need to spawn the Tiger is the ??? on the left side of the island, in relation to where you exit the Necropolis. Not the one on the right.

I(Gohanssj) and a DRG(Eleanor) Duoed this mob. 63pld/whm (Gohanssj) 52DRG/WHM(Eleanor); We had no issues what so ever fighting this mob. He is fast and hits for 35-90hp a hit.

I used Stoneskin at the begining. Dont waste you time trying to get it back up again, it wont happen. Cast slow and para on him, then hit him with your WS's as much a possable. The DRG, and his/her Wyvern will have to help heal when the PLD runs low on MP.

It was a fun fight. Plus, getting the Key from that tree is a added plus, since I like quest's. It is a quest I have yet to do.

AND BTW ASURA & SANDY FTW!!!!!!

I recently helped a LS member fight the tiger. Finding our way through The Eldieme Necropolis was the hardest part (make sure to study the maps beforehand). Our party consisted of SAM61 (me), WHM63, and DRG57.
After buffing up, the DRG popped the NM. I tanked using Seigan + Third Eye pretty effectively (not as good as NIN, obviously). This is a fast and furious fight, though -- the Tiger attacks REALLY quickly and constantly uses Paralyze, so be sure to have someone with Paralyna handy. I used my 2-hour to finish the NM off, but we all made it out alive in the end.

Note: Another NM (Ahtu) pops in that area. Make sure to kill it first so it doesn't aggro you in the middle of the fight (it wasn't very tough).

WHM75/NIN37 on Ifrit Server. Got my drg to 50 and wanted to get all AF done asap so i could store it (heehee)

I solod this as whm75/nin37 none of my magics are capped and i don't have Ohat or Reverend mail. my biggest problem was his TP move Roar which causes paralyze ; ; wastes time that needs to be spent casting utsusemi or SS...

Oh well, i still solod it and it took like... 6 minutes. got 4 Hexa Strikes in i think. a smn can also solo this i'm sure.

both me

Rdm sleeps while blm nukes.

no sleep II resists
18 Stone III's (1 50% resist)
1 Freeze

Stoneskin didn't last out the first hit from him, he missed the second so the first sleep II went off. Stayed asleep plenty long enough to keep mp up, never woke up except when hit with a spell. Didn't bother with anything else, gravity might have saved my blm from taking a few hits.

Didn't think it would work til it was down to about 30%; then I thought that unless it starts resisting sleep, this is gonna work.

Finished with all but full hp and half mp on rdm, about 60% hp and alsmot no mp on blm (did freeze late and didn't bother to rest back up afterwards).

75drg/whm can kill him(if you're requesting your AF for upgrade or like me you only want the helm and pants for healing breath macro but don't want to toss the rest)

He hits hard, 80-110 damage per hit, but his accuracy is pretty bad...I got to 80hp before I finally got my healing breath to go through..AF2 helm soloing is kinda dangerous on mobs like this because it doesn't activate unless you're <33% hp.
To Repeat the Quest
# Jan 11 2006 at 10:03 PM Rating: Decent
How much time must pass to repeat the quest? My boyfriend had quitted his DRG and dropped the AF, now he wants to be DRG again and then he needs the AF pieces again. When he left DRG he still had to do AF6, today we did it (now he's "Paragon of Dragoon Excellence" at lv 53, it's a great honor :O ) then he went to talk to Caraulian but he didn't activate the quest, so if he did AF6 today, how much time must pass to do AF2 again? Thank you ^^

Really late reply, But in order to redo AF quests you first have to visit the Elvaan in the Lower Jeuno Magic Shop, not any of the people behind the counter, He'll be by the wall. When I had called a GM about being able to quest my AF again he explained to me that I needed to pay this Elvaan 10k and have already completed all AF quests for that job in order to get the memory erased.
Damn GOld Hairpin

Its not so much the fight i'm worried about, goddamit i dont want to pay 100k for a friggin hairpin i can't use! thats just not right, what other jobs gotta shell out like that for their AF.
(watch SAMs gota buy and turn in king fu boots >.<) ANywho just a stupid rant, i'm just gona go mining i guess! GL guys!

Lol don't complain, all Jobs have one AF where they have to buy something, SAMs have Gold Thread, Ranger has Gold earring, Dragoon has Hairpin, it's annoying yeah, but it's worth it.

Maybe at the beginning of the fight he used Super Jump for some reason? He did say it took roughly 2.5 minutes because his timer was at 2:30. Add both of those together, that's 5 minutes. Sounds like a Super Jump to me.

ok, I went through this quest today with a 61 mnk (I think it was... maybe a couple levels higher) and a 69 pld friend of mine. Tried following OniNoKyuu's directions, but we were a bit confused by them >< Ended up somehow getting from the southernmost entrance to eldieme to one in the middle of batallia. I came back on here, looked at the posts again, and found the one by Prim. Really really easy to follow walkthrough there. For those of you too lazy to scroll down, I'm directly copying and pasting them here.

1. Enter the Necropolis at the southern most entrance from Batallia.

2. Have 1 mage cast Sneak while the rest of the party waits just inside the entrance.

3. That mage will walk into the Necropolis and make every left you come to. Once you pass through 2 Lich/Fallen Knight rooms, you will appear in a large room with Shadows and Ghosts. Before you go in, turn on Invisible. Do Not Step On The White Graves!

4. Make a right in this room and go up to the West Plate. Caution: Azers (Bomb-type) aggro to Sight and Magic. Once by the West Plate, you can safely turn off invis.

5. Now the rest of the party turns on sneak and follows the same path (kepe making lefts). This time, stop in the first Lich/Fallen Knight room. Once everyone is inside the room, Mage #1 will hit the West Plate and open a door to the South. Everyone goes through that door quickly and Mage #1 hits the West Plate again to close the door once everyone is through.

6. Now, the mage who was taking care of the rest of the group has to help the first mage get back. The rest of the party stays put while Mage #2 casts Sneak/Invis and walks into another big room with Shadows and Ghosts. Again, do not walk on the white graves!

7. Again, go right in the big room, past the Azer, up to the South Plate and wait.

8. Mage #1 now needs to backtrack to the second Lich/Fallen Knight room he passed through. Be careful when recasting Invis and Sneak. Make sure the Azer is as far away as possible or it will come after you.

9. Once Mage #1 is in the Lich/Fallen Knight room, Mage #2 pulls the South Plate and Mage #1 goes south through the door to meet with the rest of the party. Don't forget Mage #2, you have to come back past an Azer too, so exercise caution when recasting Invis/Sneak.

10. Once the group is gathered, refresh Sneak and fall down the middle white grave only.
Make the first right, then 3 lefts and you're at the island! Watch out for Ahtu!

Ok, there you are. If you're group can take down the tiger, you'll ravage Ahtu with no problems whatsoever. You can ignore him, but I figure why not go ahead and kill him, get the engraved key (turn in for a quest in Sandy to get 10k gil), and not have to worry that he might agro during your fight. Heal up, pop the NM, kill, woohoo! The only reason we had any problem at all is the monk loaded down on mind gear for chi blast (did 450 or so damage before the pld could even provoke o.o) and proceded to use hundred fists, which was very entertaining. Even when the pld used cover, somehow the monk hovered around 200 hp. Not too much of a problem when I was spamming dia for healing breath 3, and the pld was curing like mad, but I did have to divine seal + cure three at one point. And... yeah. Good times.

Oh, two things that might help to know.

1. There are two ??? spots on the island. I don't know if it's random which pops the NM, but for me it was the one to the left after zoning in. I panicked because it wouldn't let me pop the NM from the other, thought maybe I had gone there for nothing...

2. If you have no way but walking to get out, just go back in, stay on the right wall, fall off a very small ledge into a room with skeletons and stuff, turn right and there you go.

I used a walkthrough that was posted, and found it very confusing. I will try to simplify it. This if from the Batalia Downs > Eld. Necropolis > Batalia Downs.

I took my LS member on this AF as lvl 70RDM, I had a lvl 53 BLM also come along for the ride, the DRG himself was lvl 51. You can mix and match as you will, and Sneak oils and Prism Powders can save you from having to have another mage in the PT.

We entered Eld. Necropolis at the southmost enterance of Batalia Downs.(I was able to walk through all the areas without having to sneak and invisible).

Sneak up and walk down to the first fork(J-8) and take a left, heading to the first three way split(1-9), this is where one of the PT members(me) takes a right on the path and heads to the first big room(I-8) and to the East Plate Switch(H-8) which is just past an Azer(Sight/Magic Agroing BOMB) by toggling this switch it allows the other PT members to navigate the doors safely.

Meanwhile, have the PT continue straight down the path west until they reach a door(G-8) on the right side of the hall, past the first Lich/Fallen room(H-9) once inside, they can chill next to the south plate switch(G-8).

Next is the fun part, the first PT member who was toggling the East Plate Switch makes his way to the first Lich/Fallen room(H-9) and takes the path south down to the second big room(G-9) and then to the South Plate Switch(G-9); This is possible by having your PT members who are already standing next to the other Switch, toggle it so you can get through the doors.

Have your PT members backtrack to the first Lich/Fallen room as you toggle the doors for them, and have them make there way south to meet you in the big room(G-9) after all members are there, all you need to do is drop down in the centermost grave, into another map(this map is hard to find on the internet, and its the third of the Eld. Necropolis Maps, there aren't just two). Hug the right wall and continue onwards heading Northeast, Eventually you'll come to a hall with a few hounds in it and fork in the road, take the left path and you'll zone within a few seconds.
