Summary

Trade an Oztroja Coffer Key to a treasure coffer in Castle Oztroja to receive your Warlock's Tabard.

Description

You must have completed The Crimson Trial - RDM AF1 and activated Borghertz's Vermillion Hands to start this quest.

Head to Castle Oztroja and obtain a coffer key by killing yagudos on the top floor. Mobs that drop coffers include the Yagudo Assassin, Yagudo Flagellant, Yagudo Prelate and Yagudo Conductor.

Once you have the key you will need to find the treasure coffer. The coffer can spawn in five places in the corridor leading up to the top floor, at I-10, H-9, G-8, F-9 and F-8. On the top floor, the coffer can spawn at four points at H-9, H-8, G-7 and H-7.

Trade your key to the treasure coffer to receive your Warlock's Tabard. You will only receive your item if you open the coffer as red mage.

Quest Series

This quest is part of the Red Mage artifact armor series. See the list below to find out which quest comes next.

After obtaining a coffer key on a LS event (Wine cellar key(x2), Shadow Lord(x1), Oztroja coffer key(x1), Genkai 3(x5), testimonies(lots), High Priest(x3)), I camped the coffer for about an hour the next day.

The safe room would have been a possibility, but there was a cofferbot (Vanx @ Bismarck), so I had to compete with 2 thieves and another LS party. As luck would have it, the coffer showed up between the leeches, and I had both Sneak and Invis up. Managed to snatch the coffer with my "Barfire-use item" macro and Chainspell Warp before the THFs knew what happened :)

For those that want to have a good coffer macro:

/target <stnpc>
/ma Barfire <me>
/wait 1
/item "Ozt. Coffer Key" <lastst>
/panic

Edit: Each of the 3 doors can be tricked, so you can solo the coffer camp.
Door #1: Hit a switch, then run off immediatly.
Door #2: Stand as close to the right side of the door as you can, and rotate the camera until it's inside you. Try use tab and rotate until you target the Handle at the other side of the door. You will have to rotate and tab a few times because there are 4 Handles on your side as well.
You can just try out all 15 combinations ofcourse, but that requires to be visible a great deal longer. The yagudo were easy prey- to a 56. (they are easy prey, but didn't agro)
Door #3: Same trick as #2, but easier, as the door itself is just outside detection range of the yagudo, and there are no other handles to confuse you.

I just finished this last night.. I was a little nervouse about camping a coffer spawn, because i had herd from another RDM (in fill af) that it took him 12 hours of camping ; ;

Well, i head to castle Oztroja with a 59 Thief (she needed Limit break3) It was a good deal, because there is a coffer spawn in the Atlar room, which is the same place she needed to go, to enter the code for G3. This is a link that will help ya find the altar room:

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?realm=&fquest=282

We didnt have any problems with agg because you only need invisible, to hide from the Yagudo, and the thief subbed ninja.

We were also fortunate enough to open doors without any trouble. It took about 40 minutes of waiting for the coffer to pop. I was a little surprized i got it since there were lotsa of japanese on at this time. But Perhaps because there were so many other treasure hunters, Camping the coffer in one spot is a much better idea. Someone is always opening the chests, and they respawn in different places every 20 minutes after the coffer has been opened.

well thats my story made short, good luck to all! ^^

I just did it last night. I was so lucky to get key in like 4th kill. but since the coffer always camp by thf. I suggest just camp one single spot. The one in the room have water with 4 leeches. there have 3 spot there. one is in the middle of the water (remember sneak for leech) another 2 is at the corner. Hope it will help ^^

I just got this one tonight. Tagged along with a group who were doing skillups. Alliance of only 8...but we had 2 plds, and 2 rdms. Both rdms needed keys and coffers. Everyone else was in their mid 60s lvling different weapons. Saw that the coffer spawned...the other rdm lotted 50 higher than me...and got her Tabard. Somehow another coffer spawned not too terribly long after the first. Got another key after fighting about 30 more minutes...and I got my Tabard. I got lucky, as did the other Rdm. Hopefully the Garliage Citadel key and coffer will happen the same way. I kinda want to have all my AF by the time I reach lvl 60.

Once you start the Borghertz's Vermillion Hands quest, you are able to open any coffer to get your AF.

All I have to say is getting this key sux. I have all my other AF but this. Been looking for 3 weeks and still no key drop. To make it worse is that I usually see a coffer chest every time I go to try and get the key.

If a THF fails to pick a coffer, a mimic will appear. This mimic will drop a coffer key every time.

I haven't confirmed this myself, but perhaps it's a way to get your key.

Does anyone know if I need to talk to someone to get this quest? Or, do I just get what I need from the coffer? Any help would be appreciated!

More specifically, the coffer key area is located past the 4-lever door. There is a linear path that ascends the Castle, you will pass the monsters for WHM AF2 and go through the room with the leeches for WAR AF2 (careful they will aggro). Proceed until you reach the top of the stairs, where there is a large room with a door at the opposite end of the entrance.

Yagudo Prelate are BLM-type, watch their FiragaII etc, make sure to Silence them. Yagudo Flagellant are BRD-type. The hardest ones are the Yagudo Assassins, which not only con higher in general but are NIN-type. Be careful of Assassin links because if they have Utsusemi up, you'll have a hard time Sleeping them.

Once you have the key, getting the coffer, as previously noted, is a very difficult task, since THF love to camp this area b/c of Astral Ring drop. If there are any significant number of THF camping, you are best to camp the single coffer spot inside of the door across from the entrance to the coffer mob area (continue north).

Opening that door requires entering northeast, northwest, southeast, or southwest chambers off the main room and lighting the torch (only 1 torch needs to be lit). From there, a timer is started that will just barely NOT let a person who is walking make it to the door (i.e. get a friend to light the torch while you wait at the door). Once inside, there is a single coffer spawn BEHIND the statue (between the statue and the wall) ... just sit there for a few hours until yours appears.

Also, it won't hurt to let people you see in that room know that you are camping coffer. A lot of players camping for money will be kind to you and give you that spawn.

Remember: Yagudo aggro by sight, you can cast Invis on yourself while Invis to have it RENEW without aggro, so it's a pretty safe area to roam for a RDM. Take care, and good luck.

Whoops, forgot to add. It also says the start area is in the Altar Room. So don't bother looking for that zone to find them. You can find them pretty easily in another location. I found this area going for the Yagudo Crest for Genkai 3. There is a good description under that quest where to find that area.

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?realm=&fquest=282

Right before you go to open the last door to put in your passwords you'll see them everywhere plus this is the only area that you'll see the coffer spawn.
Coffer Key Drop

Actually more than just those 3 yagudo drop the AF coffer key. Dropped by...

Yagudo Prelate
Yagudo Conducter
Yagudo Flagellant
Yagudo Assassin
Yagudo's Elemental

Not sure about the elemental... not like they ever drop anything but so says the FFXI Treasure Hunting Map and I'll believe it for now.

I hope I get this key soon. This is probably the easiest coffer to find. It only spawns in two small rooms which are right next to each other. Only problem is the rooms are swarming with these mobs. As long as you have a party to clear all the mobs off it, it isn't too bad to find after you get a key. Chances are you'll find it just looking for a place to start fighting.

It's not so easy. There are THFs all over the place hunting coffers. They get astral rings from these coffers.
