SummaryTwenty years ago, a small nation was destroyed by the flames of war, and many died without reason. Your assistance is required in holding a ritual to send these troubled souls to their proper resting place in the afterlife. WalkthroughNote: You must have completed The Sacred Katana - SAM AF1 and waited until JP Midnight to begin this quest. First, head out to Norg and talk to Jaucribaix at K-8. He says a feather from a rare bird is needed for a ritual to guide the lost spirits of the dead. Next, head to J-8 and talk to Washu, who needs a piece of Giant sheep meat, a Frost Turnip, a Bastore Sardine and a Hecteyes Eye to make bait for the bird. Bring her all four ingredients, and she gives you the special stew needed to lure the bird out. Now, head out to Labyrinth of Onzozo. Stick to the left wall, all the way, until you see a hut, similar to the Ghoul huts found in Maze of Shakhrami. There should be a ??? there at (F-8). Examine the ??? and choose the option to lay down the special food to lure out the bird. An NM bird called Ubume will pop. This NM bird will cast horde lullaby. Once you've defeated Ubume, re-inspect the ??? and you will obtain a key item feather. Return to Norg with the feather, and speak with Jaucribaix. He will accept the feather. Wait until after the next Japanese Midnight, then talk to him again. He will say that he has finally forged the katana, which he named the Yomotsu Hirasaka, for the ritual. You will receive this katana as a key item. Next, travel to Valkurm Dunes and head to the hidden beach in the upper northwest corner of the map. Once you arrive at the beach, search the shoreline for a ??? spot. Wait until nightfall (20:00 to 4:00), and click the spot and choose to initiate the ritual. BE WARNED: Two VERY hard Notorious Monsters are going to spawn: Doman, a shadow, and Onryo, a ghost. After defeating both NMs, re-inspect the ??? spot to get a Faded Yomotsu Hirasaka (Key Item). well i was killin 1 nm then a stupid @#$%ing JP decided to kill the other one for kicks n *****, so u need to wait another day unless ur pt clears them both
just to let you know - a high lvl beastmaster could easily solo the bird.
Went yesterday - he charmed a beast (creol) and the thing tore it apart. The creol was still alive after it killed the bird.

Why do SE make sam quests so annoying. To get sam alone it took about 12 hours... (including the waiting for the stupid sword) now I have to run all over the damn world just for the boots. not only that but I have to wait over 24 hours in between parts. Does all jobs have to go through this BS? If im not mistaken smn af2 was easy and relitively short. I love being a sam but I hate what SE puts us through!!!

i just did AF1 after i completed my remaining NIN AF's i talked to Jaucribaix and he doesn't mention anything about the AF feet, do i ned to wait like 24 hours before he mentiones it?

On a side note, regarding this quest...
Steer clear of people doing this quest if you're not helping them! LOL I was standing off to the side near the beach wall when someone spawned the Onryo and Doman, I figured I'd get a good show since I'll have to do it eventually myself. Wrong! They spawned and came straight after me. They weren't even interested in the quester until I was dead. ><
Live and learn, just stay away from Onryo and Doman unless you're doing the quest. ^.^

I'd very much like to see an addendum to the guide posted above. DO NOT SEND RANDOM TELLS TO ALL THE PLD70+'s ON YOUR SERVER ASKING THEM TO SOLO THIS FOR YOU. If it's a friend and I know you sure, but tells from absolute random people that I've never met have started to annoy me. I've gotten 5 tells this week alone asking me to slo this for them.

Um.. say I was to accidentally throw these away... Do I have to do the whole quest over again to get them back? I heard there is another quest you must to to retrieve lost AF but I can't find it anywhere. Thanks

OMG the second part was too easy, I employed the help of a 72 rng name witheld to avoid him being flooded with requests for help. Then I had me a 56SAM/WAR, 57RDM/WHM, 57NIN/WAR 55WHM/SMN, and by the time i had the mobs targeted the RNG had killed them lol the whole thing took less than 10 secs. so now I have to go to Norg :-))
Bird was easy-peasy as pie! Did it with the following:

Snuck in, took care of gobs... Both SAMs got Key Item after, only had to fight one bird. It wasn't hard, took a while, but we never felt like we were in danger... Has a lot of HP, but only did one AOE the whole battle(I watched my Dragon's HP), I got some Hate early on, but after I High Jumped and Super Jumped, PLD held it fine the rest of the time.

i finally completed this quest last week.
one the first part of the quest i had me (sam51) a rdm 69 and a sam 75. The bird didnt seem to hard at first , we asll used posion potions to ward the sleep effect, np there. about 3/4 into the birds health a air elemental popped on top the rdm arggoed him and about the same time the bird used silence on him >< before we noticed he was using a reraise scroll and died. i then die by being stupid and attaking the elemetal. the 75 sam is getting low on health and the rdm reraises, tosses a few heals and dies yet again as he warps. the sam 75 beats the bird with less than 40 hps left, after all the dust was cleard the rdm came back and raised me, and the sam got some of her hnm ls friends to come out for round 2. we then got a blm 75, rng 73 i think a mnk in late 50ies on top the other 2 i had, needless to say they slughterd that bird good. on the dunes battle i went as whm 56/smn i had another whm, thf and the sam 75 (my hero) i used sneak and pulled the elvann with carby, and we won that fight in under a minute.

Well this **** is easy, i was in a party with bobbq level 71 paladin and a red mage level like 68 and me sam54/war ,we kill the bird easy then i waith the damm 24 hours and then i went in a party with a ninja level 67 his name is nobutada, with a red mage megs she is hot lol ^^, yun sam 60 and me sam 54 and we kill does 2 fast and easy, so everyone dont have scare of this **** is easy ^^..... server ragnarok

I've been trying for over a month now to get help with this quest and still no luck. If you would be willing to help me get this I would be more than happy to return the favor or even provide a possible reward for the trouble. Message Valimgor if you're on Caitsith server.

I just did this quest yesterday and the night before. Well, you guys had me scared half to death from reading this post. This was a piece of cake. I took a 62 rdm, 54 blm, 52 rdm, 52 pld, 53 whm and me, 52 sam. We kicked that bird's butt. We killed everything between us and it. We cleared out all of the gobs so that we wouldn't get agro. Well, as soon as the fight started, we got agro from an elemental. Luckily a high level thief and another high level (don't remember the job or the names), but they killed it for us, thank goodness. Big thanks to those two if they read this. We killed the bird in like three or four minutes and noone even came close to dying. We didn't use any two hours.
Now, the fight in Valkurm was even easier. I went out there with a 53 whm, 54 blm, 52 thief, 52 pld, me (52 sam), 51 drg, and a 53 rdm. We killed the first guy (the shadow) in under 2 minutes cause I pulled them out right before night ended. We got done with him quicker than we thought, so we decided to go ahead and pull the ghost for fun. We killed him in a couple of minutes too. Noone got anywhere close to dying and I have to say that those were the funnest fights I've ever done.
If any samurai on Cerberus ever needs help with this, just /tell Shavedkitty. You can easily do these fights with a single party of 6 people between 50 and 60.

Just solo'd the second part, I popped the ghost and the elvaan with silent oil on, and pulled doman, during the middle of the fight, the ghost despawned and after I killed doman I got the key item, level 61 THF, maxed evasion. Its back magic hurts but it only used stonega II once but I was out of range, it hit me with thunder II while my copy image was off, 240 damage

this hardly seems worth the work, i was told you have to do the AF's in order, its the only reason why im getting this, but i will probably never use the reward in a exp party. ugh, SE needs to make sams some better AF, they owe us that for gimping us on low abilities and messing up the Store Tp bonus.

you can kill the 1t NM as ANY job, i went and killed it after exping with a group there
party was me 62 DRG, 62 RDM & 60 WHM, that's it lol, the mobs really easy, i tanked it with my DRG, it used horde lullaby 3 times and as said, it only effects people in front of it (ie me & my wyvern)
i got the key item after killing it, so if you have a higher lvl job and levaling in onozzo anyway, cheat & kill it ^__~
Update: the valkum 2 NM's can also be killed with ANY job, 3 60's again can wipe these NM out no prob, just pull one at a time via the sneak & smn pull ^^

I as 66 RDM/NIN with my mithra wife 51 SAM/WAR did this with ease cursed was a bad thing but kill the Ghost first and the Shadow disapeared and quest was won :) Hope this helps and SiddAlex was right Sneak the Sam before activating the ???
