Summary

Twenty years ago, a small nation was destroyed by the flames of war, and many died without reason. Your assistance is required in holding a ritual to send these troubled souls to their proper resting place in the afterlife.

Walkthrough

Note: You must have completed The Sacred Katana - SAM AF1 and waited until JP Midnight to begin this quest.

First, head out to Norg and talk to Jaucribaix at K-8. He says a feather from a rare bird is needed for a ritual to guide the lost spirits of the dead. Next, head to J-8 and talk to Washu, who needs a piece of Giant sheep meat, a Frost Turnip, a Bastore Sardine and a Hecteyes Eye to make bait for the bird. Bring her all four ingredients, and she gives you the special stew needed to lure the bird out.

Now, head out to Labyrinth of Onzozo. Stick to the left wall, all the way, until you see a hut, similar to the Ghoul huts found in Maze of Shakhrami. There should be a ??? there at (F-8). Examine the ??? and choose the option to lay down the special food to lure out the bird. An NM bird called Ubume will pop. This NM bird will cast horde lullaby. Once you've defeated Ubume, re-inspect the ??? and you will obtain a key item feather.

Return to Norg with the feather, and speak with Jaucribaix. He will accept the feather. Wait until after the next Japanese Midnight, then talk to him again. He will say that he has finally forged the katana, which he named the Yomotsu Hirasaka, for the ritual. You will receive this katana as a key item.

Next, travel to Valkurm Dunes and head to the hidden beach in the upper northwest corner of the map. Once you arrive at the beach, search the shoreline for a ??? spot. Wait until nightfall (20:00 to 4:00), and click the spot and choose to initiate the ritual. BE WARNED: Two VERY hard Notorious Monsters are going to spawn: Doman, a shadow, and Onryo, a ghost. After defeating both NMs, re-inspect the ??? spot to get a Faded Yomotsu Hirasaka (Key Item).

Take this back to Norg and talk to Jaucribaix again to receive your Myochin Sune-Ate.

I tried an alliance of 55's like the guide says, it worked for the first one then i we got whooped on teh second one!(i was 52 at the time)
not too bad

this quest isnt as bad as the guide makes it out to be...
The worst part is definently finding the help u need.
For the Bird i had help from a 73 war/nin and a 67 whm we took it out basically no problem (i was lvl 50 sam at the time)

i wasn't able to find help for the second part for about 2 weeks this almost made me quit the game... but i eventually found help from a 75 sam and the same whm that helped me with the first part

sleep is completely unnecessary... simply pull the first nm with a ranged wep and fight it away from the other then kill the second... we owned these mobs in about 1 min (was lvl 51 sam at the time)

Ouch 2 weeks. :( I thought I had it bad with 14 hours straight of nothing.

Anyway about the sleep being completely unnecessary, yeah definitely not essential (it helps, but isn't a requirement) but I'm curious to know how you managed to not get aggroed by both after triggering the ??? point. As soon as I did it, both mobs were on me. There was no concept of pulling hehe. For me anyway.

Here are my notes from doing this quest yesterday:

Part 1 - Labyrinth of Onzozo

  • Higher level help is needed.

  • You will need Sneak and Invisibility.

  • First 2 Attempts was just me and a 70 RDM. Both of us died both times. Not enough firepower. Took us 10mins to get it down half health and by then RDM was almost out of mana.

  • Next Attempt was with the same 70 RDM, 70 DRK and 70 WHM. We did it, but it still took us about 7-10mins to kill it. Careful with this one.

  • During the fight, you should watch out for his AoE sleep! It's nasty, especially if his aggro turns to someone less capable of fighting. (eg. YOU!) At lvl 50, he was swattin me for 250. Course that's rare since you will rarely do much dmg to him compared to your (hopefully) high lvl party

  • Once you return the Feather to Jaucribaix in Norg you must wait until 00:00 JST (11am EST during spring/summer, 12pm EST fall/winter) for him to forge the sacred katana. You also must have zoned out and back in for him to give it to you. If you just sit and wait next to him he will not give it!

  • Part 2 - Valkurm Dunes

  • Higher level help is needed.

  • I gathered a team of 60RDM, 66DRG, 60PLD, 58WHM, 50SAM (me) and we did it real damn fast. It seemed like a joke.

  • Another SAM I spoke to before this (to gauge difficulty) said he was able to beat it with just 60DRG, 60WHM, 50SAM. I'd believe him. It was way easier than Part 1.

  • Sleep helps! Try to make sure someone has it (who can land it obviously).

  • Notes

By far the hardest part of this quest was finding people to help. Labyrinth of Onzozo only took me about an hour to find someone. I may have been lucky on this one. The best way to find someone is to goto the Labyrinth and ask non-grouped people. It's generally a high lvl zone. If you've been there before, you can just search it from afar via /sea onzozo.

Finding help for the Valkurm Dunes part took the longest. Some because they overestimated the difficulty of the fight. But mostly because people were busy or didn't feel like it. It is a FAR easier fight than people are lead to believe. Even with 2 NMs. With a few 60+ people you can take'em out quick.

...monsters are waaaay overestimated. Did the first part with: pld 60 / whm 54 / rng 55 / sam 52 / sam 51 / sam 50 and it was a breeze.
The hardest part was clearing out the gobs that spawn there ^^

    Second part we got 7 peeps total: pld 61 / whm 50 / drk 51 / rng 55 / sam 52 / sam 51 / sam 50 and it was also a breeze, especially since the 2 mobs are undeads, pld rocked them heh ^^;
    Wow

Is this quest really as hard as this guide makes out? Reading it makes me think that this is nearly impossible without having at least 3 or 4 high level helpers or knowing about 20 lv50 players !

just finshed the Onzozo part. was real easy... PT was 53sam <me>, 58/60 rdms, and a 73nin <why it was easy>. it took a while to kill the bird, but only because of lack of DD. other then that, was a breeze. no one died, no one even hit yellow HP.

will report on valkurm dunes part when complete

However, the previous guide on here was better, this one WAY overestimates the monsters.

Wrong you don't have to wait a full day, you just have to wait until 00:00 JST. Then you can get the sacred katana. That is 9am cst
