Summary

The Purple Ribbon you received from the goods shop in Windurst Woods seems to have a spooky curse on it. Kerutoto suggests you to search out the final resting place of its original owner in order to return it.

Walkthrough

To get this quest you have to have completed the Rhinostery quests mentioned in one of the posts below. You talk to Roberta in Nchaa's Good Goods store and she'll give you the questand the Purple Ribbon. After that you take the ribbon to Kerutoto in the Rhinostery in Windurst Waters. He gives you 3600 gil for it and tells you he will investigate it. After a short time (I don't know how long exactly after I gave it to him I went and did some other things for a while, but it should only be a few hours at the most, probably less) he will finish his investigation. Anyway, he then gives you the purple ribbon back and once you have it you can then trade it to the Hume Bones in The Eldeime Necropolis. This will spawn the Lich C Magnus. He's pretty easy, I've seen RDM's solo him around 60 (as long as you can stun or silence him when he casts AM). I had 3 people around 60 when I did it and he went down pretty easily. After he's dead click on the bones and you will receive a blue ribbon. After that go back to Kerutoto to complete the quest (no additional prize).

If, by some misfortune, you do not click the bones in time to receive your blue ribbon or you lose the fight, talking to Kerutoto will prompt him to scold you for losing the ribbon, and to remind you that it will probably boomerang back to its owner (upon which you should have him check it again, for some ambiguously imperative reason). After the next conquest update, Roberta will come back into possession of the ribbon and you will be able to restart the quest.

Problem Solved.
# Oct 31 2008 at 1:02 PM Rating: Decent
Took the quest, dropped the ribbon on the Hume bones, and lost the fight. It's disappeared from my quest log completely, and both Roberta and Kerutoto have begun to repeat themselves. Clearly I have solved Roberta's problem, as the ribbon has not made its way back. She needs to stop worrying about the nonexistent ribbon and let me take go get that Toraimarai quest.

She must not have tried very hard to get rid of it, as I'm sure I could've dropped the Purple Ribbon and achieved the same results.

[/sarcasm]

Seriously, has anyone lost the ribbon and gotten this woman to give it back?

EDIT: Nevermind, just read that you have to wait until the next conquest update... Gotta add that to the walkthrough.

The wait time is about half an hour.

Give him the ribbon, walk around and do another quest real quick, then pop back in and he'll give it to you.

Tested twice.

Kid tested, mother approved.

This stupid skele is nasty nasty nasty. My friend and I (50RNG/51WHM) decided we'd try this because I want the Rhinostery Certificate and so does he, so we went off to kill this thing. Got there, popped our NPCs (38 Soothing Healer, 42 Fierce Attacker) and yeah, death. We got it down to like 75% and then it used Blood Saber and got back up to like 92%. Then we kept whacking it and got it back to like 80% and it did the same stupid Blood Saber again. We both died. A few hours later, a 74BST friend of ours logs in and hears our tales of death and goes "want revenge?" and of course we do, so he takes us back down there, summons up his CorrierCarrie and beats the ever loving lights out of the Lich. So, if you have a high-level BST friend, let him have fun with it. Thanks JordanRH (Unicorn Server)

solo'd as 59 smn
# Aug 03 2006 at 1:43 AM Rating: Default
hmm. well i went into this fight as 59 smn, expecting a cake walk. def. not a cake walk let me tell you. he is a crafty little son of a *****. casts AM, Stone III, aspir, drain, sleepII, etc (***** slept me as soon as i used astral flow, i was about to act a fool!). anyway. i won. eventually, but it was basically just a lot of resummoning in a small confined area, with other things around that you do not want to aggro, so keep sneak up if you are going to coming like me as smn. by the way i dont know if anyone said this already, but the place you have to drop down is at g-8, in the very center of the map (zone in thru the southmost entrance in batallia) then you will most likely have to have someone help you open one of the gates for you. hope this helps
Rdm/War ftw
# Mar 14 2006 at 5:14 PM Rating: Decent
This guy was a joke, RDM62/WAR28 (lol gimp) I used Defender and just beat him down. Paralyze, Slow, Gravity, Bio II, and of course, silence.
Just used Protect/Shell III, Phalanx, Stoneskin, Blink, Blaze Spikes, and Enfire, with of course Haste and Refresh at all times.
I double attack'd nearly once every 3-4 swings.. Was fun, didnt even vert.

To confirm, it is two Vana'Diel days (or two real life hours) from the time you give Kerutoto the Purple Ribbon to the time he gives it back complaining you gave him a cursed item. Giving him the Ribbon at 23:50 or right before a new day begins can shorten your wait time, since the clock hitting 0:00 counts as "one day" passed.

I gave it at 23:45, asked several times the next day, no luck...then the moment the clock rolled past 0:00 a second time he immediately gave the ribbon back and sent me to find the ower's remains. Just about one hour waited.

Also, I was able to solo Lich C Magnus as a RDM/NIN at level 60 without meds or any special preparation, and all my melee skills are horribly below cap. Props to the poster who did this as a RDM64/BLM, at 60 this seems to be very difficult without Utsusemi as you cannot use Aspir...

To correct a post made by LemMminG, if you have the Diabolos quest active he will talk about Pso'Xja the first time you talk to him (after killing Magnus). However, if you talk to him again, the quest will proceed normally. I did not do Diabolos but I finished this today. Hope this helps clear things up.

Soloed Magnus as a 70 MNK/WAR, only took about 500 damage, 400 of which was from Water 3.
Forget to check the bones?
# Jan 07 2006 at 6:30 PM Rating: Decent
Like a lot of others, I forgot to check the bones again after defeating Lich C Magnus. After a week of panicking and reading forums and being unable to get my ribbon back from Roberta, I finally got my ribbon back. I talked to Roberta right after conquest update on Sunday, and she gave me a new ribbon.

So to confirm Stravia's post, if you weren't able to get the key item from Lich Magnus in time, it appears you'll need to wait until the next conquest update to get a new ribbon.

In my ongoing personal mission to see how many times and how many ways I can ***** up this series of quests, I have hit a new level!

My 75WHM friend, Perrin, and I (60RDM/BLM) head on down to Eld. Necro. and take on the Lich. Perrin blink tanks him and with our NPC's along as insurance, we kill him, no problem. I'm so giddy with happiness that a) I didn't have to solo him, b) I had someone along to help open those &*^%&* doors, and c) the NM is now resting back among his kindred undead, that I immediately warp back to Port Windy... without checking the Hume Bones first >.<.

After I mutter some choice phrases, herein unprintable, Perrin suggests I just go check the Hume Bones again. You never know and it beats waiting for the next conquest update (even if that was just the next day) to do the quest again.

So I hop the airship to Jeuno and run back to Eld. Necro. with Perrin along to help with the doors again. Click on the Hume Bones and.....

Blue Ribbon!

I didn't notice if it was the same game day or not, but it was a good 20 minutes between winning the fight and getting back to check the bones, maybe more.

So my advice is a) *don't* forget to check the Hume Bones after the fight and b) if you do forget, go back as fast as you can; you might still be able to get it.

Thanks Perrin for your help ^^.

The Quest is well named!
# Dec 13 2005 at 4:00 PM Rating: Decent
I dont know if anyone els ehas foudn this but i was questing in windy when i picked this up was on mission 7-1 at the time. I start it hand the sleepy tarutaru the purple ribbon.

My rank mission static heads off to finish 7-1 which i figure by the times its done will be enough to pick up the ribbon again.

Well succes windy mission 7-1 complete and started mission 7-2 after i had got the ribbon back and was told about heading to necro. so i head to nerco kill mob easy as (75rdm/blm) just cast blnk as he casts AM and laugh at him.

Anyway head back to windy with a cocky smile on my face after pwning the mob only to find he wont end the quest. i talk to mr sleepy taru taru but alas he mentions only of mission 7-2.

So word to the wise dont start windy 7-2 while doing this quest as i have a suspision that u cant finish it unless u complete mission 7-2.

So Lodowian is now also cursed by the "Blue Ribbon Blues" /sigh

Well, I have talked to him and activated the diabolos quest when I defeated the lich. You will have to wait for the next game day if you want to finished up the whole blue ribbon quest.

and also the newly added Diabolos avatar quest.. /sigh

if u have it activated u cant finish this quest.. kerutoto just talks about pso'xja... so basically ive got to kill diabolos as 56 smn (no1 will let me leech, and i understand why) in order to get access to toraimorai canal to do my AF feet!!

bleh!

so basically.. dont activate diabolos quest if u want access to toraimorai canal (unless u have rank 8 windy or have 2 mage friends... for the 3 mage door which leads to toraimorai canal)

if any wants.. im on asura and would e forever grateful if u help me with diabolos >< (seems a bit too much for evoker feet lol)

Remember that Windurt citizens at rank 5? can get a key item that lets them open the 3-mage gate solo by trading a rollanberry to the NPC in Heaven's Tower.

Anybody (assuming lev50+) who wants easy access to Toraimorai Canal can switch their nationality to Windurst and do all the early missions to get their Windy rank high enough to get the key item for themselves. Once you've obtained the key item you can change your nation back to what is was if you choose, and you'll still be able to use that door at your convenience.

I just solo'd this as a 64RDM/BLM with no problems whatsoever, my damage output was low but he didn't lay one hit point of damage on me and I barely used any mp. I started out with Protect, Shell, Refresh, Stoneskin, Phalanx and Ice Spikes then popped him, Silenced him and just kept my buffs up while slowly chipping away at his hp and kept silence on him. Even found time to go chat on MSN on my other computer during the fight.

well i tried solo the nm as a 60/30 rdm/blm, i got its health to almost half and i saw i wasn't going to have enough mp to keep it up so i casted escape

so then i went back to the lady and she just keeps saying the same thing

"That ribbon is not for sale, and i certainly wouldn't buy it back from anyone. Yet, somehow it manages to come back here to me. What's going on...?"

and the rhinory guy tells me the same thing about him sleeping and to bring anything strange to him

but when i lost it he said something about it boomeranging back to the owner but she won't change what she says and won't give me back the ribbon and its been 3 real life days now...

64/32 WHM/BLM solo
# Jun 29 2005 at 9:10 PM Rating: Good
I just soloed this not 20 minutes ago as a 64/32 WHM/BLM. Started out rough cause he slept me as soon as silence went and I was busy casting. It threw me off pretty badly too. I had to use 3 yagudo drinks and a few bottles of mulsum. Just remember to always keep ice spikes up as it will save your ***, as well as the commen sense debuffs and buffs: silence, stoneskin, etc.

I had 14/720 MP left. I used a Marron Glace before the fight. No drop, but I did get 36 exp. Hurray!

Also, I would suggest having True Strike before hand. It did over 200+ damage on each hit.

Soloed this guy as a 58 BST. Just need to call a Courier Carrie, or a Homunoculus (sp?) if you're lucky enought to have one. I used a Carrie, 2-hr'ed it, popped the mob and went to work. I pulled hate and got Quake cast on me for my troubles so from there I just let Carrie do all the work. :) Carrie died with the lich at about 1/3 health or so. Called a 2nd Carrie (I waited a bit to pop this guy so my call beast timer would be close to reset.) and finished him off.

Completed this quest with a friend (Ryena, Lvl 50 Mithra whm) and myself as an Lvl 57 Hume Beastmaster. Had to kill it 2 times, once for both of us.

1st time went rather well, got a little close at times, especially after getting hit with Quake when Silence wouldn't stick. Good news is, even after we were both in 25% hp range; we didn't get aggro from the mobs around us. Not sure why as they were still DC to me at 57. Guess they were just far enough away to be safe. We also fought the Lich pretty much right on top of his spawn point, that might have helped.

2nd time went better, but took longer as another party came into the same room and started pulling/killing mobs for the whm AF bell. The Lich kept draining them for hundreds of hp, you would figure that they would get the idea and move away, but they didn’t. So after a few extra Rampages, we were finally able to take down the Lich for the 2nd time. I got 54 xp both times as I had a pet (Carrie).

We got a crystal, bone chip and Lilith's Rod on 1st kill. I passed on all 3 since that was Ry’s ribbon.

2nd time the only drop was bone chip.

We then tele’d out of that nasty place. I finished the quest in Windy, zoned and got the next quest and my Rhinostery Certificate to get into the solo entrance to Toraimarai Canal, which I will use once I get to Lvl 58 Bst.

So in closing, you don’t need a bunch of high lvls people to take this guy down. Good Luck
