Battle Notes

In order to enter the battlefield you will need to bring a Star Orb, which is obtained by trading 40 Beastmen's Seals to Shami in Port Jeuno. When you are ready, trade the Star Orb to the Burning Circle inside Balga's Dais and choose to enter the battle Steamed Sprouts.

Your party will be deleveled to 40 when you do this encounter. Your party may consist of 6 members. You have 30 minutes to defeat the Dvorovoi and 7 linked Domovoi.

Strategies

You will be able to tell immediately which mob is the Dvorovoi because he is the black Mandragora standing in the middle. Most successful strategies include a Bard for Horde Lullaby. All mages and the bard should have several Yagudo Drinks to drink. Stand on the bridge without aggroing and target the Dvorovoi. Your tank(s) should have food that will provide a good defensive boost. When you zone in, buff everyone up and when ready, move to the bridge. Do NOT get too close or you'll aggro the whole lot of them.

Have your puller bring the group to the edge of the bridge. If you have a Black Mage, he/she should try to Elemental Seal/Silence the Dvoirovoi it so that it cannot cast Ancient Magic. The Bard will be focused on keeping all 7 Domovois asleep with the White Mage keeping him/her alive. Once the Dvorovoi is dead, concentrate on killing one Domovoi at a time.

Odd party setup, with no DRK!
# Nov 04 2004 at 5:32 AM Rating: Decent
Did this easily with the following setup

BLM/WHM <---me
RDM/BLM
BRD/WHM
NIN/WAR
RNG/NIN
SAM/WAR

DRK is not nessecary to beat this fight, as we did it easily four times with no deaths, and no one getting into the red. Our strategy is very much like the ones that have already been explained in here, but with a few small differences.

The RDM stayed with with the Brd and healed her when the white mandies woke up. The job of the Brd and the Brd's healer is pretty much exactly the same as with any other party setup. No one but the bard should engage a white mandy until the black mandy is down. Blah Blah Blah you already know this. However, since we had no drk, the SAM had to save his TP and use a Stun-type WS whenever Flood started to be cast. This worked every time. Hurray for Samurai TP.

The BRD and RDM didn't move from the edge of the ramp. The Melee group pulled the Black NM to beyond the center of the arena. I planted my happy butt between both groups and was barely within casting range of the melee party. I was actually closer to the BRD than the melee (which worked out well cuz I got Ballad that way). It is VERY important that the healer of the melee party is outside of the mandy's AoE range.

Once we killed the black mandy, it was just a matter of the SAM pulling hate off of each white mandy individually. At first a Weapon Skill was enough, but by the time we got to the last few mandies, it took provokes from the NIN and SAM, TP skills, and ninja tools until hte mandy would finally leave the bard alone. Hurray to our RDM from being on the ball and always healing our also excellent bard. Convert really helped, as well as Pineapple Juice. After the Blakc NM demon goes down, the SAM was saving his TP simply to pull mandies off of the bard. The ninja and ranger did solo WS. When there were only two white mandies left the melee would move up to the edge of the ramp with the rdm and brd. Everyone meleed at that point except for me, I moved again to be at the edge of casting distance, switched to my INT gear and started nuking (with the occasional cure wake-ups). We win, got crappy drops (only one scroll of erase out of all four times we did it) and we all left with a good feeling despite our drop misfortune. Also, the final and least important reason to bring a BLM instead of a WHM: Warp II for everyone. Whee.

If you're on the Seraph server and want any more advice on how to do this BCNM, go ahead and message me, but don't ask me to join your BCNM party. I will never do this BCNM with anyone ever again besides Teletha, Teggie, Ellee, Nemui, and Pooyee. You guys are awesome. MakiPoo Power!

Just an example of another successful set-up ...

RNG/NIN DRK/WAR DRG/WAR WHM/BLM RDM/BLM BRD/WHM

The secret really is not to panic if things don't go perfectly, and to make sure the RDM stays with the bard till there are 4 whites left, at which point he can safely assist the whm (he mainly had to cure sleep status)

Being an Elvaan bard I found that fish mithka worked better for me than boiled crab and I quite happily stood there taking some hits if a mandy decided to wake up early so I could sleep them all at the same time.

I wasn't using Enchanting Etude at all, although I do have Mary's Horn which of course affects duration of sleep, and allows you and the RDM time to run over to the melee, cure, buff once maybe, and run back to the sleeping onion patch. I would recommend some defensive gear, CHR gear obviously, but don't worry too much about MP gear, I got down to 50 MP only a couple of times.

Make sure the melee keeps the black one far enough away, aoe paralyze is not fun. I had to paralyna the WHM a couple of times, another occasion where I could benefit from the extended sleep time afforded by Mary's Horn.

Also, at the beginning of the fight I used Foe Lullaby on the Black onion, and just ran over to one side, waited for the horde to gather and slept them, I was down to approx half life by the time they went to zzzzzz.
Stopping Flood

The easiest way to stop flood is to simply have a DRK in the pt that has Stun. Having a DRK is almost as important as having a BRD. Whenever flood is being casted, the DRK can cast Stun and stop flood from being casted. There is no reason to have a a tank for this. Whenever I do this BCNM my pt setup is: BRD, DRK, 2 RDM, RNG (me), and another DD. As the BRD sleeps all the mandies, I always pull the black one first. It is important that 1 RDM goes with the BRD and one stays with the pt as main healer. I always end up tanking the mandy as well. I use sharpshot, barrage, and all the tp i get on the black mandy. He usually doesnt even start to cast flood. Then after he is dead. I save my tp and use a WS to pull another mandy one at a time. This process has never failed me and I have never died either.

Ok, went 4/4 tonight on this BCNM in a pick up party formed in Jeuno. Set up was PLD/WAR RNG/NIN RNG/NIN BLM/WHM BRD/WHM RDM/BLM. First time through everything went smoothly, BRD sleep others, take out black first. Second time, PLD caught Flood, 700+ and died, myself and the other RNG/NIN 2hred, and tanked the remaining mandys with ease. Third time went smoothly again, although other RNG/NIN got hit with Flood for only 400 dmg O_o. So the fourth time, PLD caught another 700+ Flood, died, myself and other RNG tanked black mandy for 9/10 of his HP, and won the BCNM a 4th time.

So, to comment on a PLD in this BCNM, I would say DRK instead, DRK wears highest DEF gear, tanks black mandy, Stuns when needed, then destroy other mandies, no need to worry about their attacks, only hit me for 15-25 dmg with my ~120 DEF.

All in all a very easy BCNM and Phalanx/Erase seem common, good luck to others out there trying this one.

currently 4/5 on this one. I got invited out of the blue to the party doing this which surprised me as I thought paladins weren't too popular for it. Anyway, crawler's nest was providing no exp parties and I didn't want the day to be a total loss so I accepted. So we went in. We did 5 fights, and won with no difficulty at all. (the only time we lost, black mandy used flood right off the bat and our DRK didn't notice in time.) I got an erase scroll along with some other lesser prizes. We're gonna do it again tonight for more loot. We're trying to get an erase or utsusemi scroll for each of us at least.

As for the fight itself, holding hate was near impossible with the damage the drk and rng were doing but I did contribute. Healing the ranger and covering her to give her some breathing space helped a lot. So let it not be said paladins are useless in this fight.

Its also +8 Chr.

I use it just because in a typical battle, with my +27 Chr, I get an average of 3 early wakers.
Just 3. No resisted mandys at all.

Just cast Ballad, Minne, then Vit Etude yourself. Since you won't be using mana anyway. (Curing yourself = too much hate = death)
Easy as pie

This is currently the choice BCNM for our static. Setup is drg/war (me, until I level my drk to 40), thf/rng, drk/war, rdm/whm, whm/blm, and brd/whm. Before entering the BC, all members /random, with the lowest number trading in the orb. Buffing with spells and food occurs on the bridge to the arena; when ready, the brd enters first and leads all the mobs to the right, while the drk pulls the black mandy to the left. Brd sings Lullaby, then uses Ballad and Blink while the mandies are asleep. Rdm focuses on healing brd, whm (standing out of Dream Flower range)focuses on melee.

While fighting the black mandy, the drk tanks, and uses Stun (obviously) when the mandy starts casting Flood. Thf and drg melee as usual, generally firing off WS's as they come as opposed to synchronizing for a skillchain. When the black mandy is dead, the drk and thf set up for SATA on the mandy furthest from the brd. If that doesn't get the hate, drk vokes, and again pulls the mandy to the other side of the arena. Wash, rinse, repeat. Simple 150-200K each for 6 runs (with all items pooled).

Moral of the story is: the more damage, the better. While you can switch out thf and drg for any of the other melees, be sure to stick with drk for tank. With a drk tank, you get far more damage output than with a pld, thus making for a quicker fight. If the drk is taking too much dmg, the drg can always bust the back-up voke. Stun is also a necessity for the black mandy's Flood. Just make sure the pt is made up of people you can trust; there have been a few times where the drk would not voke and I had to grab hate, or the drk missed the stun on flood, both ending in my demise ><
man i have theworst luck

Well, my static party and I attempted this for the first time last night. We did lots of reading on the subject and felt pretty good about it going in. Our party consisted of the following: BRD/WHM (with Mary's Horn), WHM/BLM, BLM/WHM, THF/NIN, PLD/WHM, SAM/THF <me>. The PLD subbed whm because he figured that a Divine Seal/curaga could get some mad hate, also to help the BLM out who would be healing the melee. I normally sub WAR, but wanted THF for TH and for Sneak Attack. We didn't want to break any records going in. We just wanted to be successful and hopefully get some good drops.

Try #1:
Our plan was for our BRD to run out to the battle field and cast Foe Lullaby on the black mandy, get aggro from the white mandies and run back towards the burning circle. Meanwhile, with the black mandy slept, the melee could go in and whack him. Well, this plan went bad very quick. Our BRD went up there and came back with ALL the mandies including the black one. Well, we knew we were just screwed right there. The BRD, WHM, and THF all died while the rest of us escaped from the battle field. So 40 seals lost and some discouragment since we were only in there maybe 2 mins. Nonetheless, we decided to get another orb, change our strategy a bit and give it another go.

Try #2:
This time our plan was for the PLD to use Flash on the black mandy to get aggro from all, bring them back to the BRD where he could sleep them all. Than our THF could SATA the hate onto the PLD for the black mandy and pull him away from the others. Well, this worked reasonably well. The only problem was that we somehow ended up with the black mandy and one white mandy isolated from the group. However our BLM just slept the white mandy and we started hacking away on the Black Mandy. As the Samurai, it was my job to use Tachi: Hobaku to stun Flood when he did it. Somehow, I didn't see that he cast flood until he already did. PLD dead. /slap <me>. So now we're down to 5 members and the black mandy still has about 1/2 hp. So, the THF and I start pulling out some big Skill Chains on it. Tachi: Enpi --> SATA Viper Bite = Distortion. Hits him pretty hard. We just continiue to chip into his hp and eventually he falls. He never cast flood again. So we move onto a white mandy. The THF, SATA's the hate onto me and we move away from the crowd and take this one down. Repeat for the rest. So we're finally on the last mandy, our WHM goes and raises our PLD. I use Sneak Attack Tachi: Enpi, 303 Damage and the mandy drops. We WIN! Just barely too. I wasn't paying attention, but the other members told me that we killed the last mandy with about 10 seconds left to go on the 30 min timer. So we are than warped out to the Burning Circle. Still happy and in good spirits from our recent victory. So finally we ask ourselves, "Where's our drop?" I message a friend that has some BCNM experience and ask him how we get our drop after we win the battle. He tells me that after you win a chest in placed in the middle of the circle (don't remember if he said battle field or burning) and you just go up there and get your treasure and than warp out of the circle. Well, there is obvioulsy no chest out by the Giddeous Burning Circle where we are all standing. We start to get nervous. Yup, we found out that chest is inside the burning circle and that you ALSO have to get to the chest BEFORE the timer is up. That was a hard truth for the party to learn.

So in conclusion, we were pretty pissed that we didn't get any treasure for our pseduo-successful BCNM run. However we now have a completed run under our belts and felt pretty good knowing that we did it with only 5 people. We plan on trying it again, changing up our strategy just a hair and for me (/slap) to keep a better watch for flood. All in all, I enjoyed the battle and had a fun time doing it (until I realized we didn't get anything ^^). We are gonna give it another run soon and plan on being a little more conscientious to the time limit. I'd like to wish good luck to all that attempt this battle.

REMEMBER: You have to get the chest before the time limit is up!

Good luck all.

This quest can be easy, and earn you massive cash, assuming you have the right party. We did this with: brd/whm, rdm/blm (me), rdm/blm, rng/war, rng/war, drk/war. Rdm is preferable to whm due to Convert. Enter arena, buffs then rest for MP. Make sure mages have pumpkin pies and yagudo drinks. Drk runs in and vokes black mandy, then pulls to one side. Rest of mandys follow. Bard follows, uses horde lullaby to sleep all mandys. Drk pulls black mandy to other side and rng x2 and drk kill it. One rdm keep the fighters healed while they pound away on the black mandy, other rdm is dedicated to healing brd. Brd continually uses Horde Lullaby and Mage's Ballad to keep mandys sleeping and MP up, plus blink. Once the black mandy is dead, others get pulled off one by one until fight is done. Did this 7 times, no deaths in any battle and broke the record. Then, broke our new record! BTW, this is on Cerberus server. If anyone is interested in doing this fight, look me up - Golddragon.

Couldn't you just have 6 Beastmaster each charm a white mandy and have thme all kill the black one then kill eachother?
RE: Easy win
# Oct 16 2004 at 1:14 PM Rating: Decent
That could work yes, but wut happens if u lose your charm(s) or its resisted and the other mandys aggro you? 6 BSTS might work, but 5 BSTS and 1 BRD or BLM to sleep might be prefered. All would need to sub whm of course to be self-healing.
(BLM's sleep is so much better than a BRD without a mary's horn, Elemental Seal + Sleep at beginning of battle is also better than most Brd's Horde)

I'm posting this not to encourage people to attempt this without uber gear and food, but I've actually made attempts with as little as possible just to see the outcome.

I'm upwards of 45, maybe even 50 attempts and I've only lost about 5, 2 of which the melee's failed on stopping flood on me right at the start of the fight. I've even lived through flood once; the healer was on the job and got me back up in time.

I've NEVER done this with Mary's Horn or Monster signa. Haven't ever needed them. I've never used a Yago Drink, or anything other than a fish kabob or boiled/steamed crab. BRD has to use +DEF food. Use steamed crab for your first time just for the huge +VIT and DEF you'll get will make your healer have an easier time. I've never poped an ether or hi-potion, although a macro'd HI-potion would have saved my life once.... out of 45 trips.

BRD gear at a minium should be good DEF gear, as much +CHR as you can have/afford, along with as much +MP gear you can have/afford.
Corsette +1 - waist
Noble's Ribbon - head
2x Hope Rings - fingers
Enhacning earring + Black earring - ears
Bard AF1 dagger - weapon
Elegant Shield - 2nd (it's worth playing WAR or PLD up to 20 to boost shield skill)
Body, feet, hand, legs can be anything you want. I'm fortunate that Galka RSE tends to lend rather high characteristics just for this fight. Total of the four pieces are +96MP and +3 CHR. Rather nice in light of it's low defense.

If I can do it with crap gear (I've even worn a Doublet instead of RSE) and I've ran out of food, ran out of people (completed it with 5 once after a DC) and still managed to survive that one with a Elvaan BLM/WHM as my healer.

Don't spend 500K on gear for this when you don't need it. Strategy is the key, competent players are the 2nd biggest thing.

The strategy I use is where the BRD sleeps the black one with Fow Lull and then hits the white ones with Horde lull and keeps them down.

One more thing to mention. I'm a BCNM40 veteran as I mentioned earlier. I see a lot of people saying, don't bring this or that, and more specifically, don't bring PLD. PLD's are not a must, but they are not useless either. If you are trying to set the record, then don't bring a PLD, and for that matter, there are a few jobs that are 'useless' to trying to set a record, but this is not my point.

PLD = fail safe. Why?

Say your a BRD (like me) and something has gone horribly wrong. Somehow mandy's have started running all over the place and you can't get your PT to calm down enough to get them into one sleeping arch. This is where the PLD comes in.

Invincible (assuming your PLD pulled initially)

This regathers all the lost souls, allows the group to reset into position, and the BRD to sleep the mass.

I have done this quest more times than I can count and have lost only 4 times....maybe 5.

I ALWAYS bring a PLD with me. Not because he's ub3r l337, but because he has the only ability that can get you out of a pinch and save a BRD's life and someone's orb. That alone is enough reason for me to take one. We usually finish between 15-20 minutes with a PLD, so we are not setting any records, but it sure is nice to havee that fail safe incase the impossible happens.

Oh, one more reason. The PLD is normally your tank. So when the AOE sleep goes off, he wakes up first as he is the one being attacked. I just leave the PLD in charge of using cure spells to wake up the other DDs or occasional mage. It's so useful to have him around.

So, show some love for your PLD's. This BRD sure does!
Consider this

Here's a bit of advice that I didn't see anyone suggest, and that my LS has recently found to be incredibly useful.

First, we always bring a brd/whm, rdm/whm, and whm/(blm or smn). The rdm cures the melee, and since that allows less resting, Convert is a big help. The whm gets to rest a fair amount, and towards the end can switch or backup the rdm. BRD -> duh.

2 DD of any sort, as long as one has a stunning WS, or is a drk. I personally like mnk, the whm hastes off the bat, and the mnk has enough TP for Shoulder Tackle unless the black mandy goes really fast with flood. Also, mnks have a shot at living through a flood, due to their sick HP.

Lastly, BST. Obviously he charms a mandy at the start and uses it to help beat on the black one. But here's the key: Once the black mandy is dead, the BST releases his pet. A DD then vokes it, and they duo it.

The BST then runs back to the BRD, and charms another white mandy. Even if charm fails, the mandy does not wake up. Once the mandy is charmed, it forgets all it's hate on the brd, and runs right to the middle of the arena following the BST.

Keep repeating this process. As anyone who has done this knows, pulling the mandies off the BRD becomes very very difficult due to the massive hate. Charm totally circumvents that. Once the pet is released, it forgets every single Lullaby that happened to it.

This approach also has the benefit of one less mandy bashing on the brd, which lowers the chance of any horrible mistake, saves MP, etc.

Average time for us, just about 19 minutes. That was with mnk mnk bst. Change out a mnk for a rng and I bet that drops a minute or two.

Do not rely on an attack that is TP based to stop flood. It's not that it won't work, but he can cast flood at any time. We had a battle go once where he cast it over 3 times!!! and no one had TP. The only effective way to stop it is Stun - the spell which only a DRK has at level 40. The other way, is to silence it and keep it silenced. Elemental Seal + Silence does the trick nicely.

The best thing to do though if you don't have either of these at your disposal is to stop it the safe way. RUN! If the person its being cast upon can run fast enough away, the spell effect will cancel and the individual will live.

I know BCNM40 like the back of my hand, being a BRD myself, and I tell you. THE most effective way to deal with Flood in my experience, is to give your tank plenty of room to run away.
Gonna give it a try

I and my static pt are going to attempt our first BCNM 40 ever. Now our pt consists of SAM/WAR <me>, THF/NIN, PLD/WAR, WHM/BLM, BLM/WHM, and BRD/WHM (with Mary's Horn). The plan is that I will be in charge of stunning the black mandy (Tachi: Hobaku) when he does flood. I'm curious to how many times does he do this move during battle? Also, would it be more benefical for me to sub THF for this fight? Also, from those of you that have experience in this BCNM battle, does my party sound like it can be successful? Thanks.

I put together a party with my LS about a month ago and it didn't go well. Nobody had any real experience, people panicked when everything didn't go exactly as planned, and we went 0 for 2, lost confidence, and vowed to come back at a later date.

Today I got into an experienced party and I have to say this is easy money if you're with 5 level-headed players and the BRD knows how this fight works. This party's BRD kept the Mandies slept flawlessly and still managed to keep up buffs and debuffs (Critical RAs for 270--Man, I love Bards!), the tank/puller kept his eyes open for Flood and simply ran out of range as soon as the Black Mandy started casting it, and the mages kept the Bard going and kept us alive. We even managed to break the server record on our last run despite a less-than-optimal lineup of DD (Incidentally, forget DRK and pack as many RNGs in as you can).

Okay... Bring 3 Damage dealers. Drk with stun is a must. Ranger is great for high amounts of damage quickly. Third I prefer is a Sam. Quick tp gain, excellent ranged damage if skilled up. Paladin is useless. WHM/BLM. BRD/WHM and RDM. Have the WHM cure the damage dealers and have the rdm cure the brd. It works best this way especially if rdm doesn't sub whm then the rdm can't take status effects off the DD which the mandys use like blind... Just have a smart Brd with mary's horn or monster signa. Have the rdm wear rse...electrum rings.. juice and food.. Bard horde lullaby the white mandys RDM cure.. rdm rest.. bard cast mage ballad, regen songs...

As for starting? Have the bard run forward and sleep the black mandy.. the white mandy will go to him..

It's easy.....
