Battle Notes

In order to enter the battlefield you will need to bring a Star Orb, which is obtained by trading 40 Beastmen's Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno. When you are ready, trade the Star Orb to the Burning Circle inside Waughroon Shrine and choose to enter the battle The Worm's Turn.

Up to 6 people may enter and you will all receive a level 40 restriction. You have 30 minutes to win. You will fight Flayer Franz & 15 Flesh Eaters. Since they are worms, they are immobile, but unlike the other two BCNMs you have twice as many enemies to fight.

Both Flayer Franz & the Flesh Eaters can cast Stonega II, so it's advised to have a Bard use Horde Lullaby & Earth Carol constantly, as well as have a Black Mage use Sleepga to limit the amount of active worms.

Are setup was 2 Rng/Nin, 3 Blm/Whm, 1 Whm/Blm. We where 6/6. Last attempt the other Rng/Nin fell asleep at keyboard, so we onyl had 5 people. Then in the fight we lost 2 of the Blm/Whm. And we manage to beat it with 3 people for most of the fight since they died while we were fighting Flayer Franz. We finished it with 3 mintues to spare. But I got nothing good. This is what I got. Ametrine, Fire Spirit, Refresh, Spirit Torque, Strike Shield , and Transulcent Rock. Nothing over 4k in Jeuno on my server. It was fun but i got the worst drop. Out of all the attempts. We got 2 Utsusemi: Ni , 2 or 3 Erase and got Phalanax 2 or 3 times.

Did this over the weekend...but unorthidox setup since this was a LS event, but here goes:

WHM
BLM
BLM
RDM
THF
RNG

THF came as a RNG basically, but THF was his only job 40+. RDM served as another ranged attacker, and emergency healer if needed.

First time it took us 22 minutes, then 21 minutes. After that we opened up -aga spells a bit earlier and cut the time to 15-17 minutes. Went 6/6 getting 3 Erase, 2 Phalanx, and 1 Utsusemi:Ni ^^

I just did this with a group for 1 round (6 orbs) so I think I have a pretty good idea of what to do. Here's what we did:

BLM/WHM (Myself)
BLM/WHM
RNG/THF
RNG/WAR
RNG/THF
WHM/BLM

We did quartermaster. For example, we'll use my run.

1) I got quartermaster, traded my orb, everyone got in. WHM then did protectra, shellra, barstone, everyone ate foodage.
2) As BLM I got the first move. Casted sneak on myself and went to the edge of the circle. Everyone else stayed back on the stone-ramp which ended up being our 'camp'. Did Elemental Seal >> Sleepaga with the named (something Franz ><) worm targeted. Hit roughly 3/4ths of the worms.
3) As soon as I did Sleepaga, I was pulled by the Franz's move 'Draw-in' which says "<name> has been Drawn-in!" and suddenly your character is in the center of the circle, right next to Franz. WHM was onto this one and had erase cued on me before I was even drawn in. On 5/6 times, I was immediately bound in place and usually got rasp'd too. WHM did erase to rid me of either/both and I ran out.
4) Everyone just unloaded on Franz. She casts nasty spells including Stonega II. RNGs stayed back as to avoid Draw-in (though this ended up happening alot, whm just needs to be quick on Erase in case of bind) and BLMs did Fire/Aero II. Occasionally we had to Sleepga again (taking turns) to keep the rest of the 15 worms asleep as long as possible. Just aim for as many in the front as you can, the back ones can’t even hit you with spells unless you get really close. ><
5) Once Franz was dead, BLMs picked one half of the worms (we did left first usually) and made sure the right-half stayed asleep while they did 'ga spells over and over (Blizzaga and Firaga did best). RNGs, together, picked one worm at a time and shot it to death before moving onto the next worm.
6) BLMs and WHM spent a lot of time healing mana, but don't worry. Even our longest run only took 21 minutes (out of 30), shortest took 14. Current record was about 10.
7) We had 3 deaths the entire time. (1 death per run) and one time it was the WHM. (other times it was the rng) When that happened, one BLM was healing only (occasional attack spell) and one did 'ga spells (whm died shortly after Franz's death). Even on the last run, RNG ran out of arrows. We did just fine.

My drops: Utusemi: Ni, Nemesis Earring, Spirit Torque, Strike Shield, Fire Spirit Pact, Earth Mantle = 850k roughly (I used Fire Spirit on myself)

Best drops (one run): Erase, Utusemi Ni, Spirit Torque (and some other random stuff) about 1.5 million. WHM happily used Erase on himself. ^^;

This is a very, very easy BCNM as long as people are smart. If you die, just stay dead. BLMs can't tractor (I tried, I have no idea why I couldn't, if someone did so successfully, post!) and its a waste of WHM MP.

EDIT: Thought I should post this after re-reading.

Erase: 2/6
Phalanx: 1/6
Utusemi: Ni: 3-4/6
Nemesis Earring: 3/6
Spirit Torque: 4/6
Earth Mantle: 2/6
Strike Shield: 2/6
Goshenite: 1/6
(Random things I figured I wouldn't put in here)

did this last night with my LS, FellowTravelers on Diabolos; setup was RNG/WAR, RNG/NIN, WHM/BLM, BLM/WHM, BLM/WHM, BLM/WHM. we set the server record of 8:49, nabbed -4- erases, an utsu:ni, 4 spirit torques, 3 nemesis earrings, a phalanx and other good stuff.

we picked franz off first, had a BLM cast sneak and walk in, elemental seal/sleepga on franz. we worked franz over while 2 BLMs alternated DDing franz and resleeping the worms, and the third BLM and RNGs pounded franz. after franz died, we killed the worms off one by one until there were 9 left, when all the BLMs (who were using a yag and a pineapple juice per fight) used -ga spells to mop up. average run time was 11 minutes flat. this is a very easy BCNM if you have ranged attackers; due to Diabolos's middling economy we made around 4.5m total last night, split evenly among the six members.

there's not much to this BCNM really, you need a WHM with erase because franz draws you into the middle of the worms and they can do a lot of damage if you're bound and stuck there. when you get "drawn in" just turn and run west, it'll take you back to your pt. gl ^^

Can I Charm the Flesh Eaters?
# May 04 2005 at 6:24 PM Rating: Decent
What are my chances of being able to Charm the Flesh Eaters in this Burning Circle as a level 40 Beastmaster? I assume that I would be able to, but I've heard nothing about this.

I'd be doing this to purposely kill off my own pet over and over again, thus picking off the worms one at a time like a Ranger. This would also give the worms a more convenient target than the poor Black Mages that they love to wail on.

I could swear I posted this same thing last night...

might work if the worms are within range enough of each other for your pet to melee the worm. I've never been able to charm a non-mobile worm and have it work very well as a pet.

We have a static that does this BCNM on the last saturday of every month. We have never failed at it, and have broken the record twice, best time at 8 minutes 10 seconds.

We do it with 3 rng/nin, 1 blm/smn, 1 blm/whm and 1 whm/blm (me). We keep full sets of 40 gear specifically for the event. Food is important here - MP boost plus yagudo drinks all around for the mages, sushi for the RNG.

Upon entering, we buff up proectra/shellra/barstonra/reraise, fully heal all MP, and the blms alternate sleepga. Each of their first casts, they use Elemental Seal. We choose a main rng to choose the target, starting with flayer franz. WHM simply keeps everyone erased - no atk down on the RNG, no rasp on the BLM, keep barstonra up all the time, and heal as necessary.

When there are 5 worms left, mages begin AOE, not before. We start a worm countdown at about 9ish, so the mages can get up full MP.

We always do it 6 times, your orb gets all the drops, and have never passed an evening with less than 5M between us in booty.

Basic Rules: 1) no panicing. 2) if someone dies, raise them immediately. 3)whm should have reraise up 4)Don't Rush at the beginning, it causes death.

Big money big money big money!!!

{Hello!}{Everyone}

I’ve been reading these posts and found out that a list of what can go wrong, and what to do may be helpful to some people.

I have done this around 100+ times now as the main sleeper. Lost about 6, 2 due to D/C’s.

It’s very important to have a BLM that has a lot of +INT gear. I leave my BLM/RDM TaruTaru @40 just for this. I’ve got 81 INT (+28 from food and gear) @40. (overkill? Not at all, the more INT the better. I’ll explain y soon.

I also sub RDM for fastcast and INT bonus. It saves my life all the time!

Problems:

Worms are waking up at different times

-It could be Earthday, or just a lack of INT. If you have a backup sleeper, use her/him. As main sleeper, DO NOT sleep when 2 or 3 worms wake up. You will lose if you Sleepga at the wrong time.

-Main sleeper should NOT nuke unless you’re sure you won’t get hate. I usually play it safe with an aspir after barrage, then again after it’s ready. If you get sucked in, and sleepga gets interrupted, you may die, then your party will die (unless backup sleeper can take over). I also try not to take target off of Flayer Franz, A sleepga is more important than cure II.

(This is the most important issue. Things can get out of control very quickly. Also the longer Flayer is alive, the harder it is to full sleep every worm. Main sleeper may want to sub RDM for fastcast.)

Glitch! Those worms aren’t supposed to be there?!

-This happens sometimes. A couple of worms will appear right at your camp! Just have a couple of people take them out, Silenced or slept. Remember that Flayer Franz is you’re #1 responsibility.

It’s really difficult to heal everyone!

-There are a couple of issues that could contribute to this. Not enough DD. Remember, you need to {Full attack}<call> Flayer Franz if that is your job.
-Barstonra is super important! Keep it up at all times!
-Also remember to STAY TOGETHER. I know this is counter intuitive from XP parties due to AoE, but Barstonra, and a whm not having to run all over the place is more important than being a lone….ranger….

Anyways that’s some of the most common things I could think of here at work. I have a lot more techniques that I use to ensure a fast victory x6. Send me a PM or a /tell on Alexander if you want any help. BCNMing is my current reason for playing the game. If you’re on my server, I’ll go with you for 15k (Food cost) and main sleep, unless I have an orb. I love BCNMing.

p.s. got record @ 7mins 44secs. YAY!

We did this tonight. Here is our pt:
3 RNG, 2 BLM, 1 WHM (me) ^^
out of 6 fight, we got 3 good drops and 3 bad drops.

Fortunately, I got on my orb:
Utsusemi: Ni 900k
Phalanx: 270k
nemsis earring: 400k
and other stuff such as gold beastcoin and spirit torque.

Unfortunately, I accidently zoned right before the last person passed on everything... /ouch

So I left with empty hands, but dramatic experience. I am on Hades, and my name is Plato.

/wave me when you see me. ^^ good night all.

Did this BCNM twice in 2 days, got Utsusemi:Ni + other stuff on the first day, Utsu, Erase + other stuff on the 2nd day!

That's 1.5M+ worth of items.

now, if I can find the money to put them on AH..

My buddy got Utsu and Erase in his run too, compared to only 40 worth of items in his first run.

Really easy BCNM if you have the right jobs.

I say BLM BLM WHM(or BLM) RNG RNG RNG(or SAM with capped Archery)

How to
# Apr 08 2005 at 8:46 PM Rating: Decent
Ok this is easy money. I did it the other day we x3 BLM x2 RNG and a WHM we went 6 for 6 and no one died. This is how to do this BCNM:

First zone in and buff up (use Barstonera its a must) then sneak the BLM who is gonna do sleepga first (usaully the BLM with the most INT) that blm should go to the edge of the ramp (I do elemnemtal seal and sleepga) and use sleepga. Flayer will pull you in right away (I have a macro which read's "/p DAMN hey white mage erase can I have it? <call4> in case I get bound when I get sucked in) do a 180 turn and run back to the top of the ramp. Let the rangers hit him once or twice (because if you nuke you will get sucked in because hate will still be on you) If anyone gets sucked in they should run back up ASAP (flayer can rape anyone if they stay in the middle he can hit for 50-100 damage per hit). Then nuke the **** out of him while rotating sleepga between the BLM's (we went in ABC to avoid arguement's) until he die's. Then have one of the ranger's (once again ABC order works like a charm) hit a worm (its best to clip the ones on the flanks first cuz at the end when you aga its best to have only the middle ones left) and once it turns red then everyone pummel it. I used one yag drink per fight (I used my drinks toward the end when I actually start runinning out of MP) but its not a "MUST" since you can also Drain and Aspir any and all the worms. Its also ok to rest if you ever get under 100MP just blink yourself and rest a good chunk of it back (however don't forget to Sleepga whens its your turn). Keep doing this till your left with 5 or 6 worms (it depend's on your party and what race your BLM's are we had 2 taru's and an elvaan blm so we had a bunch of MP) and then have all the BLM's do as many AGA's as they can. Usaully you we kill at least three and the rest won't even put up a fight (I noticed that after you kill about half they will just sit there and regen HP and not do ****). After killing them all have everyone except whoever is gonna get the treasure run away from the arena (by running back the lil cirlce you entered through clicking on it and choosing "Run Away") once everyone is out the person opens the chest and they will get all the treasure without having to lot (however then they have to run half way back to the circle because when you zone out you'll be appear by the black out area of the map in the mines). And congrats you are now at least 100k richer yay!

This guide is kinda geared toward BLM's cuz I am a blm so thats how I did it. However the other jobs have it about the same. Ranger's just stand there and hit the worms (you can either have one rng hit the first worm the whole time or use ABC order which ever works for your PT) then when you have 100% TP run up and do your WS on the worm (don't worry about getting hit if you have barstonera on, if you get bound just call for erase).

White Mages don't do jack lol jk. All you do is watch for the erase macro and erase the person and heal anyone who gets yellow FAST (people can die within a 2 second span). Also casting Silence and Paralyze on the worms makes them a sitting duck since they won't be able to do jack.
Besides this just keep your eye's open and cast barstonera a lot and you will be fine.

One More thing!

Did this last night. We were 5/6, died horribly the first time. One thing not really mentioned that we found was a necessity for the first sleepga is SNEAK! On first attempt black was killed before sleepga could go off as he was noticed by franz and drawn in before he could finish casting. Used sneak before ES and sleepga the rest of the fights and never had a problem. We did not have an optimal party setup, but were still able to beat it each time in around 20 minutes. Note to Rangers, especially in non-optimal parties... Bring LOTS of arrows, I was burning through a stack per fight.

We got two Erase and one Phalanx, which isn't bad for 5 runs, more importantly though, our static whm now has Erase :)

Best of luck to everyone else who gives it a go!
Another Strategy?
# Apr 02 2005 at 5:30 PM Rating: Decent
I´ve done it and won it a couple of times with the good old setup, but I like to try new things, so I was thinking of another way to do this and came up with this:

The setup would be a BLM (can be replaced with BRD since they both can AoE-sleep) and five SMN´s.

After buffing up, one of the Summoners sends Carby (works with any avatar, I just picked the atomic squirrel cuz I wouldnt mind seeing him die) in to the worms. All the worms would start casting at Carbuncle, giving the BLM a few seconds to run in and throw a Sleepga once the worms hit Carby since they gotta wait before they can recast Stonega.
After that, all the five SMN´s summon Garuda and launches Astral Flow @ Flayer Franz.
From my own experiences, all the Astrals Flow deal devastating AoE damage, meaning Franz and his fellow worm friends would be pretty dead, and if they arent, BLM just re-sleep them all and let the Summoners get their MP´s up for a second Astral Flow.

I will be trying this as soon as I am able to, and I will post information on how it worked out when I can.

This is a good idea with the summoners and Astral Flow...but usually when ppl go to do a BCNM run they each bring a orb so that would only work if your gonna do it only one time. But it's a good idea that I think will work.^^

I just did a set of six runs of this BCNM and I am flying high! We decided to do a "every orb for himself" distribution (where the person who trades the orb gets all the goods from that run), and I got one of the biggest set of high price items I have seen on a single run :

Peridot
Spirit Torque
Nemesis Earring
Utsu : Ni
Erase

Funny thing is, I'm not "rich" per se as the two big price items (both scrolls go for 500K each in Pandy) are items I will need as I level my WHM and NIN. But I guess it's money I won't have to scrounge up to buy them.

All in all, it was a very lucrative run with 4/6 Erase and 3/6 Utsu scrolls. Standard setup :

RNG/SAM
RNG/NIN
RNG/NIN
RNG/NIN
BLM/WHM
RDM/WHM (me)

There was one very odd glitch that occurred during one run that caused us to come relatively close to death, though. At one point, the screen flickered, and suddenly two of the Flesh Eater worms were right NEXT TO US at the edge of the circle, giving them the ability to physically strike us, as well as avoiding the main sleepgas. Fortunately, the blm and I quickly slept them, and we fled back to the entrance to regroup and recover. SE must've known we were gonna be really lucky and decided to make us work for it.

RNG/NIN
RNG/NIN
BLM/WHM
BLM/WHM
DRK/RNG
WHM/BLM

Went in, ES Sleepga on Flayer Franz, all asleep. Had to Sleepga 2 more times before FF died. Mages all backed up and rested while DRK and RNGs chipped the others away a bit. When mage MP was max again, mages went back up and spammed Blizzaga and Aeroga.

Got Nemesis Earring. Red Rock, Spirit Torque, Strike Shield, Refresh and Phalanx on 1st run; doing others now!

Shouts to Ardamis, Rogi, Mena, Gondi, Kamiko, and the bagel - VeteranNoobs!

Non-BRD Strategy for Worm's Turn

1. INTRODUCTION
It is common sense that "The greater the reward, the greater the risk". Yea, makes sense. But Square-Enix has an exception for this.

Welcome to The Worm's Turn, the easiest of all BCNMs. Here you can get up to 1 Million worth of items per traded orb (Asura server), without risking any kind of losses. Of course this demands a good strategy.

Below I will share my experience of 14/15 in this BCNM, and how things can be done.

2. JOBS
This is a very easy BCNM, provided you bring along people with the right jobs. As you will see, a Bard is really not necessary.

Essential jobs: BLM (at least 2), RNG (at least 1)

Desirable jobs: WHM, RDM, SMN

Unnecessary jobs: PLD, NIN

The idea here is to have damage dealers (a lot of them) able to attack from distance. Therefore the obvious choices are BLM and RNG, but SMN can also do good.

You also will need someone to do the healing if things go wrong. Your best bet is a WHM, but a RDM could also do fine (see below).

Tanks are not necessary here. Actually, they are quite useless, as you will see in the next section.

3. STRATEGY

After you get inside the Burning Circle, the WHM or RDM buffs the party with Shell II and Barstone (because the worms love to spam Stonega and Stone II).

After that, the party approaches the worms, but not so much (I mean, out of aggro range). Then the BLM approaches the battle arena carefully (it is wise to use Blink if you are a Tarutaru). Then he/she does Elemental Seal + Sleepga on Flazer Franz. This will put all 15 worms to sleep - except Flayer Franz itself. The idea is to kill him as soon as possible.

So, the Rangers and Black Mages start causing damage on him. Remember that worms are vulnerable to Aero/Aero II. Don't worry taking damage, that's why you brought along a WHM or RDM to heal you.

If the healer is a WHM, he/she can also help casting Erase whenever a worm casts Bind or Rasp. If you brought a RDM, he/she can Dispel the mobs when they cast Stoneskin. But never bring a WHM and a RDM at the same time, it's really not necessary.

One of the BLMs should pay attention to the other sleeping worms. If they happen to wake up, it's important to recast Sleepga.

After Flaying Franz is dead, the risks of failure are zero. Now you just pick up a normal worm - say, the leftmost - and join forces to kill him, while the others are still sleeping. The same rule applies here, that is, a BLM must keep all the others sleeping.

If you wanna try and break the record, there is also another possible strategy (a faster one) after Flayer Franz is dead: ask the WHM to cast Diaga in the middle worm, so they won't regenerate HP. Then, all BLMs start spamming Aeroga. If they have Manafont available, so much better. Reapply Diaga each time it wears off, and don't care about the damage you receive. It won't hurt, as long as you have Barstone up.

It's also nice to point out that all worms are Aspir-able and Drain-able.

Do this for each worm left, and victory is yours!

Note: It may happen that a party member is attracted (pulled) to the middle of the worms by Flayer Franz. This usually happens in the very beginning when the BLM casts Sleepga, so it's important that the RDM/WHM pays attention. In these cases, don't panic, just run back to camp (westwards). If you are Binded, ask the WHM to Erase you; if this is not available, you may die. If this happens, wait for Flayer Franz die, Sleepga the worms and Raise the dead character.

4. REWARDS AND OTHER NOTES

This BCNM has nice drops, like Utsusemi: Ni, Erase, Phalanx, Spirit Torque and Nemesis Earring. Note, however, that Erase, Phalanx, Spirit Torque and Nemesis Earring are rare drops. Utsusemi: Ni is not that rare by my own experience, and it also sells very nice.

You must be prepared for everything here. Your drops can suck (100k), they can be regular ones (500k) or you can get an uber-drop of 1.3 million (Asura server values).

Regarding the other jobs not listed above, well, any job will do if you can use ranged attacks properly. But Ranger and Black Mage will surely outdamage all other jobs.

Good luck! ^^

4BLM, 1WHM, 1RNG.

We did this 6 times so that everyone got to lead and get all the items on there drop. Well we went 6 for 6. 1 Death of a BLM on the 2nd try. On the 5th try we set the record at 12:46 on Ragnarok. My turn was the 6th and final. I got the best drops out of all 6. I cannot wait to go on this one again. Since this was my first BCNM, and I had a blast...

hey, i'm curious. would it be possible to substitute one BLM for a BRD? The BRD could horde lullaby the NM and surrounding pals, plus grant ballad and an extra barstonra in the form of earth carol. That way, the 2 BLMs could focus purely on nuking the NM. Also, could SMN*5, BRD do this, following the same tactic as before, except each SMN would use Garuda and slam on the NM?
WHM of death

2 RNG/NIN
3 BLM/WHM
1 WHM/BLM

Being the first BCNM for me, didnt know what to expect but it was fairly easy. 2 BLM switched off on sleepga detail while the 2 RNG and BLM killed Flayer Franz. WHM kept regen up on both RNG since they tended to be "drawn in". After Franz died, it was a 3 blm manafont -ga spell spamming spree. Went nicely in about 10min.

Dont try for the record! lol you'll just get slaughtered!

My orb results:
1 Earth mantle
1 Refresh
1 Phalanx
1 black pearl
2 gold beastcoins
1 strike shield

roughly 130k... i suggest getting a static to do this over and over. Easy money! ^^

I did this for the first time last night/this morning. I went with my friend who has done this one before, he said that this run was extra smooth.

We had "Standard" (and uber, I might add) config:
rng/nin Thegou (12/12)
rng/nin Meteron (6/6)
rng/nin Rotciva (6/6)
blm/whm Darkmushroom (2/2) (connection issues had to bail)
blm/rdm Blesseddarkangel (4/4) (replacement for Darkmushroom)
blm/whm Hefeweizen (6/6)
whm/blm Webscr (6/6)

Was probably the most boring for me as all I did was buff at the beginning and cast Barstonra every once in a while. It was probably pretty boring for all of us, to be honest but then again that might just be because we rocked my socks+1.

Few other things not mentioned here if a memeber gets drawn in and gets pwnd, don't panic this battle can easily be done with 5. We had a black mage dc and still won. Thegou has had ppl get drawn in and pounded to death and one person run out of bullets and still won with 5 ppl. If franz is still alive and you lose your sleepga-ers, then i would start to panic ^^. AoE does not work so well with the Flesh Eaters have rangers lead and use <spell> II. Finnaly, try to avoid this one on earths day, I still think it would be easy, but mobs will be stronger.

I think this one is so easy that SE should make it so that you trade your orb to the circle and then the crate appears ^^.
