Battle Notes

In order to enter the battlefield you will need to bring a Star Orb, which is obtained by trading 40 Beastmen's Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno. When you are ready, trade the Star Orb to the Burning Circle inside Waughroon Shrine and choose to enter the battle The Worm's Turn.

Up to 6 people may enter and you will all receive a level 40 restriction. You have 30 minutes to win. You will fight Flayer Franz & 15 Flesh Eaters. Since they are worms, they are immobile, but unlike the other two BCNMs you have twice as many enemies to fight.

Both Flayer Franz & the Flesh Eaters can cast Stonega II, so it's advised to have a Bard use Horde Lullaby & Earth Carol constantly, as well as have a Black Mage use Sleepga to limit the amount of active worms.

RDM/BLM?
# Jan 16 2005 at 12:20 AM Rating: Decent
I was wondering about something. Does anybody think there's any sort of possibility that a RDM/BLM could be of use in this BCNM?
I've never tried it yet 'cause I think I won't be very useful...

Rdm isnt needed in this bcnm but the rdm can do it.A rdm can be little use.If you were to go as rdm most likely your job would be to help cure along with the whm curing.I wouldnt mind inviting a rdm to my party in bcnm worms turn but would rather have somthing else.

But id also rather have a rdm rather than a sam, pld, war, nin, thf, mnk, drg, and drk a .So if i was a leader and a sam, pld, war, nin, thf, mnk, drg, drk, or rdm asked me if i could do it, i would chose the rdm because all the rest have no reason to be doing the worms turn and rdm can.

Wow, utsusemi: ni is only 120k on your server? I want to be there! It's at 400k on our server and rising.

Phalanx however is a little cheaper on our server at a little over 100k.

It's odd that in a game that is exactly the same could come up with such a varying economy.

I could've sworn I read through all this before I actually went and did this BCNM, but now that I look back I have to wonder how everyone has been managing this without any tanks? o.O My usual party is BLM BLM RNG RNG WHM PLD or WAR and it's worked pretty well, though a WAR/NIN seemed to do a little better tanking. It was my understanding that you needed someone constantly with Franz voking and all so that the mages and RNG didn't get sucked in continuously. Still I've been sucked in and whacked and even killed once because of it, but how do you manage without a tank? Just let the worm suck ya in and then run back out afterwards?

you dont need a tank. replace your tank with another rng. if the blms do their jobs, then there isnt any danger. People will get sucked in to franz, but it isnt a big deal. once your in, Run west and you will get back to your pt. the only people getting sucked in, though, are the rngs because they should be doing more damage than the blms. most rngs go as rng/nin, so they have blinks. the blinks will absorb any non -ga spell or physica attack, so they wont get bound. the -ga spell will destroy all remaining blinks on the rng and anyone else it happens to hit. as a rng, I expect to take damage in this BC, but its ok. I have yet to die from getting sucked in when everyone is doing their job. what kills me is when a blm uses a -ga spell on franz, then I get sucked in >< the whm is there to cure me up if I get hurt, and to cast erase in case my blinks do disappear.

I have never had a tank on this, it isnt needed. all rngs use barrage, and shoot away. blms cast sleepga to keep all the worms asleep, and the whm cures. A tank in this BC wont ruin the whole fight, but it will make it slower because the easiest way is for the rngs to stand out of magic range with their bows.

if you are the tank, teh Balgas Dias BCNM 40 needs tanks, and I think many drops are teh same if not identical (I dont know because i havent done that one).

This BCNM has been duoed on Bahamut by a RNG/NIN and BLM/WHM. Anyone who takes more than 10 minutes to beat this is doing something wrong.
Easy
# Jan 13 2005 at 11:13 AM Rating: Decent
this is ridiculously easy -
BLM/WHM
BLM/WHM (me)
WHM/BLM
RNG/NIN
RNG/NIN
BRD/WHM

did this in 5 min 46 seconds record, and 4/6 got good drops, i personally got 400ks worth (woo) this is very easy and is a nice NM to do, we simply seleepgad them, killed NM with one blm nuking, one sleeping, and then -ga'd half the room while other half was slept, with the rangers picking the weak ones off, and then -ga'd the other half, had to rest after NM cos of mp, and we avaeraged around 8 mins, bard helped alot with mp, and buffing. then last one we all used 2hours and got 5mins, and beat the record by 4 minutes, hope this is helpful

New strategy
# Jan 12 2005 at 9:23 PM Rating: Decent
I did this BCNM last night, and my party had a new rogue strategy that sounds like it wouldn't work, but hear it out...it's really fast

4 BLM
1 RNG
1 WHM or BLM/WHM

Okay, at first one BLM sleepga's and the others nuke with aero II while the RNG beats on Flayer Franz. When he's dead (shouldn't take too long) the BLMs split into pairs, alternating spamming aeroga on the center worms. We beat it in under 10 minutes with no deaths.

Try this out, BLMs. It's the fun way to do it.
Any job can do this!

FOr all those that believe melee cant do bcnm I have something for yah!

PT:

Blm/smn- only slept
Blm/whm- only slept... let the worms sleep for gods sake!!!
Rng/thf- Lead archer and good friend!
War/sam- <Me> Archer/Melee out classed rng in dmg!
Drg/whm- Healed a lil and did one key banishaga also a good friend, made a sacrifice that one the fight also!
Whm/blm- WHM? what does a whm do? heal... i think she threw a few banishes on the key worm.

Woo Hoo we did it in a record 27mins 32secs Made a killer 10k each profit... It was dragoons seal and we all took just 1 item a peice. Ok, not my best bit of money i have ever made but i am proving a point... anyone can do bcnm... especially if a Dragoon can do it. Still waitin on a success story of an all melee party? Is anyone willing to attempt it? That's my challenge to you all!

RNG/NIN, RNG/NIN, RNG/WAR, BLM/WHM, BLM/WHM, RDM/WHM (me)

The record on Ifrit for this BCNM is currently 12 minutes 31 seconds. Our best time was 12 minutes 47 seconds. We would have had it if I hadn't been out of juice in the last battle. My only job was to buff and heal.

Food before we entered, then I cast Protectra/Shellra and Barstonra on everyone. Barstonra was kept up at all times, even if I had to run around the circle to keep it up.

Regen was also kept on the rangers at all times. Barring a WHM with Erase to remove Rasp, Regen kept everyone from losing HP. I kept juice up as long as I could, and ran back to cast Blink, Stoneskin and Convert. The 6 HP after Convert was by far the lowest anyone got in 6 fights. I saved Divine Seal to Cure III myself to minimize the amount of HP I needed to get myself back to the battle.

RNG/WAR is better than RNG/NIN on this BCNM. The constant Stonega and Stone II makes Utsu:Ichi kinda pointless. The WAR sub at least adds additional damage to each hit.

Convert makes RDM a better choice than WHM for this BCNM in my opinion. (Although I am admittedly biased ^^) Even with Erase, the tank/DDs are going to be hit with so many different effects the WHM wouldn't be able to do anything but cast Erase the whole battle. I was using pineapple juice since that's all I had on me, so I went through a lot. Two Yag Drinks per fight would probably have been enough.

The BLMs traded off Sleepga, dividing the room after the NM died, cast nukes and did the occasional back-up heal (especially in that last battle).

I wanna do it again^^

RNGx3, BLMx2, WHM

We just completed this 6/6 with some issues, including multi-death of same person (sorry ; ;), my death at the start... oh boy /joy and one of the RNG's dropping while another had raise sickness. And we still completed the set of 6. I think the worst drop we got was about 200k's worth. I ended up with Erase and Utsusemi: Ni (500k total), plus spirit, strike, peridot, and some other stone.. maybe 580 in total.

We also got some other drops like potions of reraise and something else that I forget.

Thankyou RNG's for helping us out, and we'll do some more later if you are up for it again. ^^

PS: Oh we had some glitchy stuff happen where two worms teleported to the place where we were standing from a distance. We killed them off, but they would have really ruined the whole thing if left un-attended since Sleepga wouldn't have hit them.

I just tried this today. We ended up 6/6. The set up was BLM/WHM (me), BLM, WHM, RNG, RNG, RNG. We began each fight like this:
1. Buff up like normal /w Protectra II, Shellra II and barstonra.
2. I'd then cast sneak on myself and use elemental seal. Then I'd run up and cast sleepga on Flayer Franz. If you target FF your sleepga should hit everyone of the Flesh Eaters.
3. Every tme I casted Sleepga on Flayer Franz he drew me in. When this happens immediatly run out of the worm horde and follow along the outside BCNM ring back to the entrance pathway.
4. Our party then opened up on flayer franz, while I kept all the worms asleep. Flayer Franz has alot of HP but its nothing to worry about (usually I had to sleepga once more before he was dead.)
5. Once FF is dead I countinued to keep all the worms slept while the RNGS picked a target to kill. Then wed all focus on that worm until it died. Rinse and repeat until all Flesh Eaters are dead.

The worms all can cast Stonega II, Stonega I, Stone II and Vacuum which causes silence from what I saw. If you do not keep all the worms slept at the beginning your party will be bombarded by stonegas; which can tear you down fairly quickly.
As for drops I got the worst out of my group at around 40k. Got a white rock, a scroll of refresh, scroll of fire spirit pact, an earth mantle, a spirit torque and a strike shield.

Tonight I did this with my LS. we had 2 BLM, 2 RNG, RDM and a BST. most people wouldnt think this would work.. by the 2nd time we was owning so bad we should be in jail. ofcourse BLMs slept and nuked the mobs. while BST charmed and turned them against each other. RMD did the healing. and BLMs did the nuking. and as a BLM aspir is lovly when running low on mp. when RDM got low on MP we went to the teleport and converted then healed some more.we did this 6 times and got this scroll 3 of the 6 times. and got phalanx twice. this setup we had supriced me. but it worked and this is what we will be doing from now on. >>>>> Bahamet server

PS. forgive me for any misspelled words. Im drunk. I hope this information was helpful.

Did this last night with a group of people i partied with before, there were only 5 of us, we couldn't trust strangers, BLM/WHM, BLM/WHM, RNG/NIN (me), RNG/NIN, WHM/BLM, we got around 750k in drops including erase, which no-one actually needed. The BLM would run in, sleep them all, then we would go crazy on Franz. When he was dead, mages would rest to full MP. Me and the other RNG would attack the closes worm, and then the next etc until the mages were back in action, we would kill them one by one until there were only 6 or 7 left then the mages would -ga spell them all. It was really fun!

Ok, i have a theory on how to do this one preaty easily. Can a blm cast sleepga and sleep franz with or with out elemental seal?
RE: sleep?
# Nov 09 2004 at 6:56 PM Rating: Decent
I am one of the blm's in rumiko's party that does this bcnm. Regarding sleeping franz, that is exactly who you want to target ur sleepga on.

I do Elemental Seal before my first sleepga, than cast it on franz. The point of this is to hit all the other worms with sleep. This makes the whole fight a lot easier.

Keeping with this approach as the other worms begin to awake is a must. Otherwise you have 15 worms plus franz casting stone spells, rasp, and silence. Once you get good at this approach, the biggest obstacle becomes how fast can you defeat them all....

Yes you can sleep Franz. But regardless of wether you can sleep him or not, it's the 15 other worms that are a problem, and require sleeping. ^^;

We've done this BCNM about 8 times in our LS, and died the first, missed the second by lack of time. We found our groove now and can finish this below 10 minutes easily (broke the server record twice... 8:45 now, woohoo!)

Basically, the above posts in the thread are right. Our setup is:

BLM/WHM X 3, RNG/NIN, WHM/SMN, DRK/WAR

The three blms split sleeping duties. the whm keeps an eye on hp. All the worms have access to stone spells, nasty ones like Stone 2 and stonega 2. the RNG takes out chunks of hp from worms, and the drk too, but only once Franz is dead.

A typical run will be sleeping franz with sleepga, the range of the spell (better than a bard's horde lullaby, btw) will sleep all the other worms too. Elemental seal helps making sure it's not resisted by any worms. Then, burn, shock and Absorb-INT is casted. That helps the whm sticks enfeebles (shock for slow paralyze, etc...often resisted but helps a lot when they stick) and burn + absorb INT makes sure that 3 3 blm nuking franz do a lot of damage. The RNG picks at his health too.

Once Franz is dead, the blm are usually at 1/4th mp, so we heal up after sleeping the worms again if they woke up, then rest to full mp. The rng and drk pick at the worms one at a time, to speed up killing them.

Then, once at full mp, the blms and whm (if he has a lot of mp to spare) start casting aga spells at one side of the worms, letting the other side asleep. That makes sure you get the best damage to mp ratio.

Once you get used to it, it gets real real easy.

should a pld use invincible to start off the fight?
RE: worm turns bcnm 40
# Nov 02 2004 at 6:52 PM Rating: Good
IMHO a paladin is not necessary for this bcnm. In fact, I don't believe you need any tanks at all. However, if you do plan on using a paladin I would suggest this:

1) Stand close enough to franz to voke, but far enough so that he can't physically attack you.

2) Use ur mana for curing urself when you get hit with the stone spells. And if you are using voke on franz, you will get hit a lot and hard.

3) Stay close to a mage that can use barstonra because those stone spells hurt a lot.

4) If you use invincible to start off the fight, you will have 16 angry worms casting a whole lot on you. So that's probably not a good idea. Let ur mages sleep the small guys first, than go after franz.

5) After franz is dead, just focus on one guy and hit him w/ ur sword and heal up when necessary. Probably ur main role during this bcnm will be helping the mages keep people cured. May not be a lot of fun, but the drops will be worth it.
