Battle Notes

To begin, trade 50 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Comet Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Waughroon Shrine zone located in the Palborough Mines dungeon.

Be advised that six players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 50, and that there is a 30 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, you will find Time Bomb, a single bomb type mob.

While the Time Bomb does not actually attack the players, as soon as damage is inflicted on it, a sixty second countdown will begin whereupon if it is not defeated, it will Self-Destruct, inflicting 9,999 damage to everyone in range, and will result in a loss for the BCNM.

In order to spawn the armoury chest, the Time Bomb must be defeated within a minute of being first attacked.

Strategies

Because of the short window of time that the Time Bomb must be defeated in, damage dealing must be a priority. Since Time Bomb does not attack at all, there is no need for a tank or a white mage for the fight.

Melee and Black Mage strategy

A recommended strategy would involve two melee capable of performing a fusion skillchain and four Black Mages.

  • Take note that although logically they should be resistant to Fire elemental damage, they are in fact weak to Fire.

Upon entering, have the Black Mages open the fight with a timed Elemental Seal Freeze. As soon as the spells connect, have the two melee begin to attack while the Black Mages spam their best spells. When the melees have enough TP, perform a Fusion skillchain and have the Black Mages magic burst with Fire II. This strategy works best if the two melee are Samurai, because they can Meditate upon entering the BCNM (and then because of the 30 minute time limit of the battlefield itself, you can afford to wait and allow the Meditate recast timer to reset), as well as use their Meikyo Shisui.

Melee and Red Mage strategy

This strategy is similar to the previously mentioned strategy, except that it requires around four Red Mages with their Chainspell ability ready.

Upon entering the BCNM, have the Red Mages activate their two hours and begin spamming Fire II while the melee attack and perform Fusion skillchains as often as possible. Because the Red Mages are using Fire II as quickly as possible, timing for magic bursting off the skillchains won't be necessary. Once the Red Mages run out of mp, simply Convert to restore mp and continue on.

Actually could work.

Read the above: Timer doesn't start until first damage.

(Oh, and it IS Elemental Seal, not Divine)

So, you'd have the four BLM seal and start their cast. SAMs don't engage until the spells are near ready

All you people asking about if i cast reraise... if pld does invincible.... and what if i get out of explosion range please listen. It doesnt even matter if you survive the explosion somehow. No chest will spawn unless you kill him.

I was the other Samurai with Marseilles and Sylvr.

And I can say, in opposition from Sylvr's sayings: it last 60 seconbds. When fight begins, the bomb says:
"60......"
and farther into the fight:
"20......"
and then:
"10......"
and then:
"5......."
"4......."
"3......."
"2......."
"1......."
( then you die )
plus, you'll notice that thge movie I made last 60 seconds...

The day after, we tried again: Sylvr D/Ced as we engaged battle ><

Now we're pissed, and won't stop untill we get it... even if drops may not be worth it...

That D/C was probably the worst thing to happen to me in this game so far. But alas, the next day, Victory was OURS!!!! We owned this thing with at least 3 seconds to spare, and once again, my Chainspell seemed to last the entire 60 secs........ I don't know, I think it will forever be a mistery. Oh yeah, Horrible drops. Lol, as I remember, each member got about 9k in addition to the gil we got when we killed it... but it was fun, so I'm glad we did it.

Yeah, i was one or those RDMs with Mar, we all Chainspell, spam FireII, convert, spam.....DIE, my max MP is about 507 with Food, i was down to 55 MP and a sliver of life (from convert) and the thing was SOOOOOO close. Strange thing though, and some of the other RDMs noticed it too, this battle is supposed to be 60 secs, Chainspell is supposed to last 30 secs. Yet for some reason, we were still chaincasting till the end..... there is a typo somewhere, i think this battle is only 30 secs or something

I tried this last night with another Samurai (me being a 54 SAM myself) and 4 Red Mages.
Fight was going well with the other SAM and myself doing 6 Fusion Skillchains (300TP to start > WS > Icarus Wing > WS > 2HR > WS Meditate > WS > WS > WS [for a total of 6])
and the Red Mages spamming FireII (or so we thought). The bomb was down to a sliver of life left when it exploded on us for 10k damage.
Well as it turns out, one of the RDMs did NOT have Fire II (was using Fire instead), and that apparently made the difference in our failure. We will try again tonight with the RDM having Fire II this time ^^

Just out of curiousity, has anyone tried using a PLDs 2-hour to survive the blast? If it works you can basically solo this thing every 2 hours and get all the items to youself.

The Paladin 2hr "Invincible" only negates physical damage taken.

You would be blown up and killed by the bomb just as everyone else.

i did this 5 times yesterday won every time.
i was using:
Elvaan Mnk/War
Elvaan Mnk/Sam
Taru Blm/Smn
Mithra Blm/Smn
Elvaan Bst/War with alchemist water that i made
Mithra Rng/Nin

we all had icarus wings every one attacked and we all used skill chains and blm wb with freeze and the rest of the fight they cast wateraga 2 and water 2. we killed this thing fast. for the day we all came out about 1.5mil profit. we only had to use 2 hour for the last fight.

I saw alot of post about 2 sams and 4 rdm or blm. I think 2 sams and 4 rdm would work best. But the same shouldnt do distortion they should do Tachi: kagero to Tachi: goten for fusion (since the bomb is weak 2 fire) and just have rdm chainspell fire 2. u will get 4 scs out of this and a hell of alot of mb's to the mobs weakest element. Maybe im partial cuz those are the 2 jobs ive lvled high enough to have a good understanding of.

Your wrong buddy ^^ bomb IS a fire based mob, you are correct. The unique things about bombs though, is that they are weak to thier own element. Fusion is the BEST choice and spamming fire II to mb will totally own the bomb.

[I'd like to point my attention to rollers post down below V.V Bomb are weak to fire for being arcana! Psh even rdms can learn something new]

I've a strategy on how to beat this... however I dont know if it will work. Before saying "OMFG UR DUM ***[email protected][email protected]*~*(" read what I have to say at the bottom.

You can do this with 2 people. On stays on the BC when you spawn, the other goes in and attacks the bomb, thus starting the timer. It explodes, kills the one that attacked it, and the other is free to take the goodies and split them.

Now... this WILL work ONLY if the radius for his self destruct isnt a billion feet. I dont know if anyone is willing to die for gil (I sure as hell am :P) but I dont know if this will work. Might be better to test it with a PLD first. Healing for 30 seconds, then using Invincible.

Anyone know if this will work, or is it just a "explode --> kill everyone in the arena" instead of "explode --> kill everyone in radius".

Because AFAIK, as long as the NM is dead, and there is at least one person alive to take the treasure, you win. :P

Ok, just tried that. Waste. :P

One of us went, but died because of blast, obviously. On hindsight he probably could have ran back and I feel dumb for not thinking about that. Perhaps I though it would chase him...

Anyways it exploded and nothing happened. :(

It had potential.... hehe.

Setup- war, sam, rdm, blm, mnk, drk

all acc str and dex gear

buff, food haste etc before the first dmg..blm elemental sealed freeze..for 300dmg lol

Then everything went to hell in a handbasket

Everyone died...never thought a minute could go by so fast.

2hrs are a must at the start or it's impossible

Honestly... yes.

You could easily do 3000+ damage with a chainspelling RDM here. Bring some items and you could squeeze out and extra Fire II. I doubt you'd need to.

that would be kinda hard, the fight will last a max of 60 secs, then you all die, and last i checked you can do only one bloodpact a min, so why waste a 2 spell on it, use all your 2hrs at once on it and keep pummeling into it

Can anyone who is planning on fighting this run a parser to get some idea on the Hp the mob has? Secondly how about a few thieves with high marksmanship and gun weapons? A thf/rng could get off 2 SATA's in about 10 secs and then use sharpshot and begin to pummel with the gun. TH2 would be nice too.

Arcana = Weak to Fire

Even if the Bomb were Fire based, that would make it weak to WATER, not Ice.

So the "Freeze Method" wouldn't be as effective.

You can tell Bombs are Arcana by how they aggro, they aggro magic. All arcana mobs aggro magic.

Now on to strategy. I'm a WAR/NIN (or at least I will be) and I want in on the action, so here's what I'm thinking:

BRD, RDM/BLM, ME (WAR/NIN), 3 More melee (MNKs, other War/Nins...doesn't matter, maybe 2 of each)

BRD uses Madrigal, Minuet, Requiem, Wind Threnody.
RDM uses Haste (on melees), Dia II, Choke (lowers VIT).
Melees use 2HRs, Mighty Strikes and Hundred Fists. This with hasted critical hits from WARs and Buffed Attacks from MNKs should do it pretty fast, could add a WS in here too that the RDM could Burst (Hopefully Light/Fire). Spinning Axe > Raging Fists should work. The MNKs can sub THF and use Sneak, or just go WAR with Berserk (probably /WAR is better).
RDM can also cast Fire as much as possible with Chainspell and Burst when the time is right. Since MNK is ending the SC it'll be high DMG from all that TP they build with Raging Fists, and RDM's Fire II Burst should kick some ***.

Other than that setup that includes me, I could see MNK x 6 or RDM x 6 kicking but, BLM x 6 would probably work just as well.
For the MNKs I might throw one out and pick up a BRD just for fun, but I don't know if the damage output would be better or worse.

Bombs are Arcana...arcana are weak to fire...even if this bomb WERE a Fire Type Mob, that WOULD NOT make it weak to ICE, Fire is Strong vs. Ice.

Seriously people, do a little reading...

IMO, the RDM/BLM x 6 or MNK x 6 using 2HRs is about the best I've heard, and since Bombs (arcana) are weak to fire a bunch of Fire IIs should be nice.

To a previous post, I'm pretty sure with Fast cast on, the Fire I in between Fire IIs isn't necissary, as ALL spell downtime is nullified.

I'd like to try this with my WAR/NIN cause at 50 I'd get that second Dual Wield and can do some hefty damage with Mithkabob, Mighty Strikes, Haste, etc.

I think a GREAT party (that includes me) would have 1 BRD (for Atk, Haste, or Acc), a RDM or WHM solely for Haste and Dia II (RDM/BLM prefered for Choke to lower VIT also), and then the rest Melee for PURE MELEE DAMAGE TIME. Haste them all, Acc + Atk songs, Dia II, Requiem IV (sure, why not) + Wind Threnody, Choke, then all out melee damage with MNKs or WAR/NINs all of which use 2HR and RDM can cast Fire II like crazy as well.

Revised version... 2 Sam and 4 blm..
Open with distortion sc, 4 freeze MB. Then for 40 seconds you do whatever. When freeze recast is up, you have about 10 seconds to do the other skillchain/burst and you are money w/o using any 2 hours.

Samurai/War x2 Blm/Sum x4

Sam's use meat miths, blm use melon pies, meditate up to 200% tp and ready for another before the battle begins. Samurai's pop berserk and here we go!!

First one Sam blows off his 5 weapon skills (100% tp, 2 hour, meditate) creating Distortion Skillchains, the BLM all freeze MB off of him. The 2nd Samurai rips off his 5 weapon skills, then the blackmages continue their assault. So we are talking 5 distortion skillchains (~500 damage each) and 20 freeze magic bursts. Who loves yah? I am just wondering what the recast time on freeze is. Otherwise you could alternate skillchains but you would have to be really good to do this.

If I'm not mistaken, Freeze recast is ~42 seconds.
