Battle Notes

To begin, trade 50 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Comet Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Waughroon Shrine zone located in the Palborough Mines dungeon.

Be advised that six players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 50, and that there is a 30 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, you will find Time Bomb, a single bomb type mob.

While the Time Bomb does not actually attack the players, as soon as damage is inflicted on it, a sixty second countdown will begin whereupon if it is not defeated, it will Self-Destruct, inflicting 9,999 damage to everyone in range, and will result in a loss for the BCNM.

In order to spawn the armoury chest, the Time Bomb must be defeated within a minute of being first attacked.

Strategies

Because of the short window of time that the Time Bomb must be defeated in, damage dealing must be a priority. Since Time Bomb does not attack at all, there is no need for a tank or a white mage for the fight.

Melee and Black Mage strategy

A recommended strategy would involve two melee capable of performing a fusion skillchain and four Black Mages.

  • Take note that although logically they should be resistant to Fire elemental damage, they are in fact weak to Fire.

Upon entering, have the Black Mages open the fight with a timed Elemental Seal Freeze. As soon as the spells connect, have the two melee begin to attack while the Black Mages spam their best spells. When the melees have enough TP, perform a Fusion skillchain and have the Black Mages magic burst with Fire II. This strategy works best if the two melee are Samurai, because they can Meditate upon entering the BCNM (and then because of the 30 minute time limit of the battlefield itself, you can afford to wait and allow the Meditate recast timer to reset), as well as use their Meikyo Shisui.

Melee and Red Mage strategy

This strategy is similar to the previously mentioned strategy, except that it requires around four Red Mages with their Chainspell ability ready.

Upon entering the BCNM, have the Red Mages activate their two hours and begin spamming Fire II while the melee attack and perform Fusion skillchains as often as possible. Because the Red Mages are using Fire II as quickly as possible, timing for magic bursting off the skillchains won't be necessary. Once the Red Mages run out of mp, simply Convert to restore mp and continue on.

Water beats Fire beats Ice beats Wind beats Earth beats Lightning beats Water?

Bombs are weak against fire but shouldn't they be strong against ice and weak to water if they weren't weak to fire?

Also for me I am thinking 4 redmages, one sam to skill chain , monk,redmage, or ranger fills in this spot. Magic burst like crazy?

And there's the little option called Day, wait 'till it's water or ice day, THEN use the magic/attacks that are water or ice, since that's what it's weak against (ps: if somebody already said that, I didn't see it, 'cause I'm to tired to read it all)

okay, here's an idea: 6 sam.... that's right, you heard me, 6 sam. Take all the sams inside, eat meat miths (probably not nessecary, but fun) then use meditate several times until their TP is full, then all sams hit 2 hr and start spamming Renkeis at the bomb for 30 seconds until it dies :) almost makes me wish I were a sam, that would be ONE cool fight to watch :)

Party of 6 SMNs:

6 SMNs with decked out, or just some, Austere Gear (level 50 armor w00t).

Since the timer does not start until it is damaged, get everyone close and surrounding. Astral Flow and put a counter, "3, 2, 1, INFERNO!"

So everyone does it at the same time, once that's done, with the austere gear, the delay before you can do it again is about 55 seconds or so, and RIGHT when it is ready, two hour again (this is if needed >.>)

6 Astral flows SHOULD have killed it, but that is what the Austere Gear is for.

Food that would be needed: Melon Juice and an ether.

Now just do this over a period of 6 days, or just go the whole 12 hours ^_^ Hope someone tries it, I know I'll try it ASAP.


So heres some math I thought I might add. At level 50, Astral Flow does about 900.

6*900 = 5400 damage
Do it again with the Austere Gear:
A total of 10800 damage will be unleashed in ONE MINUTE.

Melon Juice gives 2mp/3secs, now add Auto Refresh 1mp/3secs for a total of 3mp/3secs.
For a total of 50 seconds, you get 16 ticks.
16*3 = 48 mp

Ether = 50 mp

Grrr. Only 98 mp is regenerated in that time >_<

But I think there will be room for one more tick, required for Two Hour Blood Pacts is level*2 which is 100 in this case.

So you can go safely with a Hi-Ether or risk the extra tick and hope the Astral Flow goes off before the bomb blows.

I was just wondering how much HP this bomb has. over 7k? Knowing the amount of hp would help you prepare for it. This sounds like a sweet all-out damage battle i can't wait to do it.

The problem is, many groups will want to go 6 consecutive times to a BCNM so that everyone may use an orb (in all fairness), and if the SAM uses his 2 hour and you depend on that method, you may have to wait two more hours to go again :(

I tried this 2 times last night

1st party was a NIN (me) RDM DRK RNG RNG MNK

only me and the DRK brought icarus wings (100%tp) we got it down to about 1/4 of its life^^;

2nd time we got a BLM instead of the DRK, but the rangers still didn't bring icarus wings so they couldn't do thier skillchain before the timer ran out.

if you are planning to do this with melees, bring some icarus wings! the best setup would be 2 melee to do a skillchain at the start (preferably with a fire MB) then the rest of the party mages to nuke like crazy.

Since you only have 60 seconds to beat it smn wouldn't be nearly as good as BLM, SMN would get 1 astral Flow in each adding up to probably much less then 6 BLM casting Freeze and such.

I got a team together of 2 rdm, 2 rng and 2 mnk. The rdms used Melon pies, the rngs and mnks used wing something or others (they give 100tp). Everyone used their 2 hours. I think we were planning on doing some skillchains, but everyone paniced and just gave it all they had. We beat it and set the record for Titan! Needless to say, we're going to do it again tomorrow ;)

Have you ever fought a bomb type enemy before? It's pretty freakin obvious that they're weak to fire...try casting spells of other elements on them, then casting fire, and you'll see a very noticeable difference in damage done/resistance. The information you're quoting is wrong (besides, if they're based on fire, why would they be weak to ice? That alone makes absolutely no sense...should have clued you in to the fact that the information is incorrect >_>)

There is only ONE bomb. Doesnt attack, doesnt move. Gotta kill it in 60 seconds or so. Want a quick, easy win? Grab 5 other rdm's (preferably sub blm with high int gear) go in there, chainspell, convert. Wham Bam thank ya ma'am. Also a MNK blowing hundred fists (assuming he has high accuracy) would be handy as well. Plus my Higher lvl buddies say this thing is weak to fire. RDM's get Fire II at 50 :). owned.

Could a paladin solo this?

Assuming there's 3 bombs, you just need to sub blm to cast an AoE spell. After that, wait 45 seconds and activate Invincibility.

Would that work?

I'm not sure what you're asking...

First, 1 bomb. Second, even if you have Invin on, you'll still get killed by the self destruct. Third, PLD doesn't have the damage output for this - Definatly not the output to solo it.

There is some chart some npcs show you and bomb type enemies have been changed to arcana (light type) Its just weird how fire deals the most dmg.

Ok, do you actually have to kill the bombs? If I were a whm with Reraise, and didn't mind losing 3 deaths worth of xp, could i just reraise myself 3x and walk out of there with the loot?

Also, i'd like to know if the bombs really will kill everyone or just ppl within a normal aoe?

That is correct. This NM does not attack you at all, so healing isn't necessary. When the 60 seconds run out though, everyone dies. Get the most hard hitting party you can assemble.

Actually, 6 rdms would probably do more damage, as long as their elemental skill is capped, they sub BLM, and they have good INT gear.

Chainspell, spam Fire2, and Fire in between each Fire2, convert, start spamming again. You could do more damage than casting Freeze in less time than it takes to cast Freeze.

Besides, bombs aren't particulary impressed with ice spells.

It appears that, if you do not kill the bombs within 60 seconds then you die. Period. No running out of range, no sleeping, no invincible, no blink etc.

Me and a few ls friends ttried it with 2 mnks 1 rng a rdm drk and blm(me) and did about 9.9k damage, then bit the explosion.
If you start the fight with a freeze you can do quite a bit with no time taken off, then have mnks do two hours and wail away at it. Then the rngs can do theres and skillchain if possible. No need for Manafront because at lvl 50 i had 700+ mp with pie + yag drink and i had about 150 left over and i was casting Fire II then aeroga II over and over.

It seems to me that BLM x6 would be the best party, then, for the very reason you state. AMs have long cast times. With 6 in synch BLMs you could start the match with 6 freezes before the bomb could even bat an eye. Seems to me that'd give you a nice leg up.
