Summary

Carmelo wants to start his life anew. You must go throw the song sheet he had written for his former love into the Mirror Lake on the Beaucedine Glacier.

Walkthrough

You must have completed The Stars of Ifrit quest before you can begin this quest.

Prior to accepting the quest, you must also examine the key item Carrier Pigeon Letter which is acquired as part of the prerequisite quest. Once you've done so, talk to Carmelo and he will give you the key item Carmelo's Song Sheet.

Examine the Mirror Pond at Beaucedine Glacier (G-10) on a clear day (no snow falling) to receive a cutscene. You can't ride a chocobo through Beaucedine Glacier, and mobs will aggro characters as high as level 50, so characters no higher than that will require some form of Sneak and Invisible.

When you return to Carmelo, he will reward you with a Lamia Harp. Provided you have sufficient fame, if you zone out and zone back in, Carmelo will give you the next quest in the series, A Test of True Love.

Quest Series

This quest is part of a series of quests offered by Agapito and Carmelo in Port Bastok. See the list below to find out which quest comes next.

No... the G-10 pond is the correct one. I just completed the quest.

Quote:
* It's extremely rare for the Beaucedine Glacier to have clear weather, as most of the time it is snowing. Check with the weather forcaster Maleme for info on what the weather will be like in the Glacier for the next three days (three earth hours.) She's in South San d'Oria at J-8.

The pond at G-10 has a target with a blank description window. But, if you are there on a clear day or dark weather day IN THE DAYTIME - meaning between 6:00 and 18:00 game day, another target point will spawn - 'Mirror Pond'. It will appear to the left of the blank target so just run there and hit it for a cutscene.

I hope this clarifies things a bit.

I was actually able to get the cutscene by touching the Mirror Pond at 23:06 in dark weather, so it doesn't have to be dark weather in the daytime.

Ice+Double Ice didn't let the Mirror Pond spawn. Single Dark Element did. That is all.
Siren's Tear quest
# Feb 23 2005 at 11:06 AM Rating: Decent
The Siren's Tear quest is apparently a prerequisite for this. I did the quest for Agapito, examined the letter key item before and after completing it. Carmelo just mentioned "a Siren's Tear" (in green text) going down a river, tides of war or something. I waited several days including one conquest tally and he still didn't provide the quest. After looking up the Siren's Tear quest and completing it for Wahid, Carmelo gave me this quest.

Has anyone else experienced this situation?

Once you do this quest, it will become very apparent why you need to have done the Siren's Tear quest before. The jewel is mentioned in cutscenes... it's important to the relationship between Carmelo and Daliah. Especially how each of them thought it affected things...

Rank doesn't matter. City Fame matters. Build up your Bastok fame by doing lower quests, then you can do the highers ones.

I was having the same issue as Mecorx. Just finished it, left the zone, came back, and Carmelo wouldn't talk to me. I examined the key item: a carrier pigeon letter. Clicked on Carmelo again and voila, cut scene.

I think this guide is not completely right, i finished stars of ifrit zoned, and zoned back in and talked to Carmelo, He did not give me a quest, all he said was "my name, on some love letter? are you sure? there must be some mistake.
So you DO need fame for this quest

Two possible causes:
A) You already have the key item (I'm pretty sure I got it without realizing it was for the next quest, I'll have to check)
B) You don't have enough fame for this second quest.
Kinda confusing

When you go to the lake there is a blank ??? and then one that says Mirror Pond. Make sure you click on the Mirror Pond one. It's on the back side of the lake. You can do this when it's 'gloomy', darkness element.
Thanks Valyana

Great tip there Val, I was baffled.. was Rank 9 fame in Bastok (Master Rcade! You are a hero to the people of Bastok! Everyone here knows your name and what you've done for us! You are the example every Bastoker should follow!), had done Ifrit's tear and Cid's Secret and STILL couldn't get it. Examining that letter seems to be a MUST.
yup

I wonder if the Siren's Tear quest is also a prereq for this quest, since Carmelo is the NPC that tells you how to collect it (and he mentions that he was forced to sell it in the dialog). If you think you have enough fame and have met the other requirements and still don't receive this quest, it might be worth a shot to see if completing the Siren's Tear quest will let you have it.

You can examine the mirror pond when Beaucedine Glacier has the dark element.

* You need to have at least level 5 fame in Bastok before Carmelo will start this quest; otherwise he just refuses to admit that he wrote the note from the previous quest. At level 5 fame, Flaco by the tavern tells you, "A lot of people know what you've done for Bastok. People are saying good things about you. Keep up the good work!"

* It's extremely rare for the Beaucedine Glacier to have clear weather, as most of the time it is snowing. Check with the weather forcaster Maleme for info on what the weather will be like in the Glacier for the next three days (three earth hours.) She's in South San d'Oria at J-8.

* Although the reward for this isn't that great, it is a fairly easy quest if you arrive during a clear day. This quest is a prerequisite for two more quests from Carmelo, as well.
