Summary

At the close of the Great War, Gilgamesh's father trapped a terrible spirit within a helm. That helm has been stolen, and it is your job to hunt down the thief and get it back.

Walkthrough

Note: You must have completed The Sacred Katana - SAM AF1 and Yomi Okuri - SAM AF2, and waited until after JP Midnight, to obtain this quest.

First, head to Norg and speak with Jaucribaix at K-8. He sends you to speak with Gilgamesh.

You'll then need to do some traveling. Head to Port Jeuno and speak to Sanosuke at the Duty Free Shop. Then, go to Mhaura and talk to Phoochuchu at LFKDS. Next, go to Bastok Mines and open the door at J-6 for a cutscene. Last, go to Waughroon Shrine in Palborough Mines for another cutscene.

Return to Norg and speak again with Jaucribaix. He will give you a rare/ex item called a Banishing Charm.

Go back to the Waughroon Shrine and trade the Banishing Charm to the burning circle. Inside the BCNM, you will have 30 minutes to kill three demon NMs: Gaki (blm); Onki (smn); and Rasetsu (drk). After killing the NMs, you get another cutscene involving a ninja named Ren. He gives you a key item called Charred Helm.

Grab a Gold Thread and head to Norg and talk again to Jaucribaix. After the next Japanese Midnight, talk again to Jaucribaix to finish the quest and receive your Myochin Kabuto.

New Record on Unicorn
# Feb 23 2005 at 7:29 PM Rating: Decent
Finally finished this quest today. Asked my LS for help, and boy did I get it. Here's PT setup:

74 Pld (Mythrill)
70 War (DragonKnight)
75 Rdm (Belgara)
75 Blm (Kaizoku)
75 Nin (Yoohan)
62 Sam (Me)

No special battle tactics besides what is already listed here, we just entered BC and charged in. Mythrill and I took on Gaki, and by the time we killed him, the other 2 were dead. Overkill definitly, but we set a new record on Unicorn server ^^. Massive amounts of thanks to my new LS, the MoogleArmada, for helping me out.

Battlefield clear time: 3 minutes, 44 seconds!
Not a record breaker....but easy and fun ^^

i just finsihed this about an hout ago:

Party~
<SAM58/RNG29> (me)~Elvaan
<RNG61/SAM39> (Privond)~Elvaan
<PLD75/WAR37> (Eddardstark)~Hume
<PLD60/WAR30> (Emryss)~Hume
<BRD74/WHM37> (Biv)~Tarutaru
<RDM70/BLM35> (Peteking)~Elvaan

Here is how we did it:

Me Emryss and Privond took the Gaki, Eddardstark took Rasetsu, Peteking took Onki, and Biv kept the pet, Onibi, asleep.

Edd took Rasetsu to the back and jsut held him off. Pete did the same with Onki. Emryss tanked Gaki...and me and Privond massacred it. i entered the BCNM with 100 tp. equipped my archery gear and used Sharpshot. Sidewinder > 2 hour > Sidewinder > Sidewinder > Meditate > Sidewinder > sidewinder. PRivond also used a sidewinder and Eagle Eye Shot and Gaki was dead in seconds.

Emryss took over tanking Onki from pete and pete became the main healer. Onki was killed with relative ease. Onki never got to use astral flow cause Biv kept thet Onibi slept like a pro ^.^. Onki died along with Onibi. Rasetsu was a wee bit more difficult...but still easy.

it used Blood Weapon, so Edd used invinvible :P we didnt beat the record....but idc...in 24 hours i get my helm and finish my Samurai Artifact Set! wOOt

~PS be sure to use warding circle when u start to fight, it REALLY helps

I finally managed to get some help from my LS today for this fight ( <3 littleGamers )

Went in with

61 PLD
60 SAM <me>
66 RDM
75 RDM
62ish WHM
and
71 RNG <Sir Damage boy> ^-^

battle took 4 minutes and 36 seconds.

The order we went for was SMN -> BLM -> DRK
Onki astral flowed right as he died ^-^
Gaki never really got the chance to cast any of his devastating spells, and Ransetsu was just being a general pain with Blood Weapon, but nothing to worry about, with the setup I went in with, it was actually fairly easy, but with a balanced party closer to level 60, I can see that there will be some difficulty.

I'm omw to finishing up this quest now, and good luck to those of you who'll be slaying these Demons in the future ^-^

more to the wonder filled epic. I got a party together after a whole day of asking for help. Many thanks to Mrsbumbum for sticking around at first. Well, so I spend hours making this party. It was something like 65whm, 60 pld, 60 drk, 58 sam (me), 68 war, 66 thf. It was a total disaster and we got raped completely by these things. I'm not sure what happened really. I popped Warding Circle at the start and we all went after Gaki. It ... took too long to kill Gaki. Then when we killed him off then things really started to go wrong. Our pld died right there and I knew it was over. From that point on, we just slowly folded in on ourselves. It was pathetic, disorganized, and foolhardy. I wonder if I even want this now. Then when I try to restructure the party to put in a rdm the thf freaks out and calls me rude. What a wonderful game this is. The one cool thing is I anticipated my party falling apart, had a warp scroll on me and warped out right at the pass out moment. Got some medics in Jeuno to fix me up! ^^

update:

the day after I got up determined to see those demons killed and sent back to hell. I gained a superb and elite group of people to help. They are all awesome people they are:

Fetus - 70 RDM taru
Elyxis - 58 BLM human
Kialai- 70 WHM taru
Ejanport - 75 PLD human
Sozsensur - 60 BRD elv

Together we went to the Palborough Mines and put the smack down on those demonic terrors. It was a VERY hard fight still and if you attempt this you will NEED at LEAST one person who can refresh in the party otherwise it will end in certain failure.

Thank you all! You make online quest games worth it.

Actually, I was just in a party that killed it easily with no Refresh. Honestly, this fight was a cake walk. We beat the time record, took 4 minutes and 3 seconds, beating the record by 1 minute exactly.

Party set-up was this:
WHM66 (me)
PLD75
SAM75
SAM60
SMN74
SMN65
Wooty!

55Drk/27War <Saintdog>
60Sam/30War <Chrislee>
71Blm/35Whm <Elvalee>
63Whm/31Blm <Scalpel>

Big thanks to everyone helping me today again! You guys were the best for helping and wow what a fight! I wont lie to anyone, even with these great ppl, it was a tough fight. The other Samurai got killed but was revived <Reraise or Raise not sure> and healed a little and helped out again on Rasetsu again. Wow! Again thanks to everyone. I have the AF gloves, pants, no body though, but i dont think I have to have all the AF bits to get the quest.... and definatly enuff norg fame.

Looks like it might be time to call a GM =/

You can't talk to him unless the quest is flagged, the door to him is locked tight. But my question is what is the wait time on the helm once you have given jaucribaix a golden thread. Is it 24 hours game time? 24 hours RL time? I will post again when I recieve mine.

Okay, shutup right now before someone hurts you, of course it was easy with that PT setup, look at all that firepower, hell even the whm could have soloed the summon. Next time you call something easy try it with the minimum required pt, if u still beat this in under 5 mins, then u can say it was easy, until then, please refrain from being stupid.

When I went back to Norg after visiting the Shrine the first time (before the BC), Gilgamesh would NOT give me the charm. Instead he gave me ZM text. Since I have no way to confirm if this was a result of having ZM active or just that Gilgamesh plain doesn't give you the charm, I will say that if you cannot get it from him, talk to the Elvaan man you go to for all SAM quests (I forget his name, starts with a J) and he will give you the charm.

I just finisedh the BC with a 75 RNG 75 PLD 72 WHM two 60 SAMs and a 61 SAM (me). We broke the record on Bahamut. Our battle plan was to go in, kill the BLM first. The Paladin DID NOT try to tank just the BLM, she stood disengaged and performed hate-getting abilities on all 3. It was mostly us SAM juggling hate. When the BLM was down, we went next to the SMN. The plan was for all 3 SAMs to rip it open with 2hrs (I'm proud to say my Tachi: Yukikaze did over 800 damage :) ) but didn't happen. One SAM was forced to 2hr on the BLM when we were sleepgaed, and my own 2hr killed the SMN before the other could get his off. The SMN still got off Astral flow despite the fast battle and killed one of the Samurai, but the rest of us were OK (thank you Neamh). After that the DRK was a simple matter of meleeing and firing off WSes when TP was to be had until he died.

Did this just a few minutes ago with a grossly overpowered party. But that's what happens when you ask one 75 to help, he brings his friends.
75 NIN, 75 MNK, 75 BRD, 74 BLM, 73 THF, Needless to say we set a new server record of 3:58 ^^;

Not saying it was hard or nothing (Crap I hit Gaki for 3400+ dmg and the ******* still wasn't dead..) but I'm just so happy to finally have this finished...

BIG THANKS to Sirfalas, Mrukk, Criyu, Raex, and Remey of Ifrit.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before or not (most comments are on the BC fight). Make sure after turning in the key item and the gold thread that you zone out and back in before trying to get the Myochin Kabuto. I don't know how long it takes Jaucribaix to fix it, but you must zone out and back into Norg for you to be able to get the kabuto.

Did this quest last night with pt of: 74DRG 68WHM 61BLM 65PLD 61SAM(me) 58SAM. We owned all the demons. PLD got hate from drk demon while I voked the SMN. Me, the DRG, and other SAM fought the BLM and killed him before he could 2hr. Then we moved on to the SMN. At about half HP he summoned Leviathan and did 2hr. Tidal Wave did about 500 to everyone. After that we owned him easy. Then with the DRK demon, I 2hrd and [Tachi: Yukikaze]'d him to death. He never had a chance to 2hr either. Fight lasted 4:36, server record is 4:01. Only thing that got us close to dying was SMN 2hr, but it only took everybody to ~half health.

Edit - Oh yeah..."PWND"

I did this quest last night..heres what I had..

65DRK
65PLD
58SAM (me)
65?WHM
67BLM
69SAM

I have to say...this must be one of the hardest AF3 battles in the game. For those who said it wasnt hard, well they must of had a good party.
Here was the strategy.. -

As soon as the I hit warding circle, PLD runs in and vokes ransetsu, than the rest of us charge in.
The 65DRK and me attack the BLM, Gaki, while the 69SAM provokes the SMN and pulls him far away from us to solo him. (Yes the 69SAM soloed him with 2hour easily).. Me and the 65DRK blow 2hour and kill the BLM fairly quick. The 67BLM elemental seals + sleep 2's the summoner's pet, and keeps it slept throughout the whole fight.
I wasnt paying attention to the 69SAM..but I know she killed the demon very fast with her 2hour. But...it wasnt fast enough, because I Onki, the SMN, start to glow, and I realized he was using astral flow.

This..hits hard, it hit me for 621dmg and everyone else even more. It left the PLD with 27 HP, and everyone else in orange, but, this was easily countered by a curaga II from the WHM.
Next after the SMN, Onki, is dead, the 69SAM comes to help us finish off the BLM, Gaki. He dies fast, he did use manafont..but no big trouble, he also did sleepga II in the begining..but it was easily countered with a curaga. We didnt get hit with Ancient Magic either, quite easy to stun him.

Shortly after the BLM fell, we moved onto the DRK, ransetsu, after that..it was just a clean kill. Took a few minutes, but we finished him, PLD didnt even have to 2hour (although he did when it had 2hp left, silly pld)

We broke the record on fairy server with 6 minutes!
I'd like to thank the members of my linkshell - Rajani, Ladyd, Luma, Carnifex, and Zendour.

...you say it was hard...but no one died and you broke the record. I don't see how that constitutes 'difficult.' It takes some thinking...you can't just run in and do it. So maybe it's 'hard' in that sense...but I don't see why anyone would just charge in with no clue.

Congratulations, either way. ^^

To back up what Ramyrez has said, this isn't that hard of an AF to do with only people around level 60. Rather than get into too much detail on fight tatics in general, I'll just say jobs and what we all did:

60Pld/War
60Rdm/Whm
60Blm/Whm
60Mnk/War (me of course ^^)
60Sam/War
59Whm/Blm

Pld: After using the 3 min wait period for Meditate and magical buffs, he ran in there first and voked Rasetsu, the Drk. He continued to tank him through the whole fight, held out pretty well, but had to use Invincible because he started to get some low HP numbers for a bit. Otherwise standard Pld tactics here.

Rdm: Rather than have him sleep the elemental pet, we had him debuff and tank Onki, the Smn. His job was just to keep him occupied and cast cures here and there, did a good job of it, never saw his HP drop too low. He ran around like a mad man casting bind, gravity, anything that stuck ^^ Once Onki was dead, his hard part was over, standard Rdm Tactics then.

Blm: we gave him the hardest job, but I had the most faith in him ^^ At first, we had him Ele sleep II the pet summon, then focus on Gaki, the Blm. He was just mainly there watching out for when to cast Stun for Ancient Magic, but the Gaki died too fast... The pet elemental woke up one time right after Astral Flow was activated, but no one died, just got alot of oranges and two reds (our Pld and Blm). Gaki and Onki fell in short order, so then it was back to normal fighting time for him. He even finished off Rasetsu with a nice Burst Ancient Magic ^^

Monk: After much Boosting, let loose a good Chi blast on Gaki, and with Def gear on, tanked him for a bit. Just to be safe, both me and the Sam used our two hours on it... poor Demon, got rocked by 5 x Tachi: Yukis and one really strong Raging ^^ After that, I went right to the Onki and Voke him, got hate realtively easy from our distracting Rdm. As mentioned early he did get Astral Flow off, but then me and the Sam had enough TP, so we WS'd him away pretty fast (like said before, this guys HP is so low... ^^). After he was dead, back to Atk gear and wailed on the Drk Demon.

Sam: After using the Med trick, ran out behind Pld and used his Circle to help us in our fights. It was good too, I saw at least 2 Intimidated messages (well worth it ^^). As said in Monk, he 2 hour massacred Gaki, then proceeded to finish off Onki. He stuck with me like butter on bread, we were the two man wrecking crew ^^

Whm: Healed, healed, and healed again! He did some debuffing too, and circulated between healing me and healing the Pld. There isn't much else I can say here, but it helped that he stayed out of AoE range. He drew some hate while I was first voking Onki the Smn with a Cure IV, but I needed it. He had his buffs up though, so he didnt take too much damage if at all, while our damage drew him back into the fray.

Oversights: We did end up getting Astral Flow'd, but we did survive it. We could of implemented as many filters for the blm, since his man jobs were just stopping bad things from happening. Overall though it was minor. I did forget about the AoE Slow attack that all demons have, so it would of been good to Haste up a right before we jetted off inside. If you do use 2 hour on the Blm, and using a WS would be overkill, save your TP for Onki the Smn. He dies fast, but is very dangerous with Astral Flow.

Sorry for the long post, but like I said, no higher level help and we did fine. Our static is relieved to have this done too. Good luck to all that try it.

Edit: minor spelling mistakes, hey I was tired

Look. Y'all can rate me down if you want to, but I'm sorry, you're wrong. This is a ridiculously easy fight if you have -any- experience doing BCNMs or AF fights. You don't need a "high level" - you need people who know what they're doing and don't panic. I already related my tale for this BCNM. It's easy compared to Steamed Sprouts (BCNM40 Balga's Dais), let alone any of the harder BCNMs. I get tired of hearing people talk about how hard this is. On my server it never fails when I wear my kabuto in a party someone tells a story about a samurai they helped and they got destroyed...and I just sort of go along with them because I don't understand. This is a ridiculously easy fight. Fun, but not worthy of the fear that it seems to inspire.

Come to think of it, I've participated in Paladin, Warrior, Samurai, Dark Knight, White Mage, Monk, Thief and Dragoon AF3s. None of them are hard at all. The biggest annoyance is the Monk AF3 when the Yag NM uses hundred fists and maybe trying to keep the area clear of other orcs for Paladin AF3. Otherwise...meh. Someone may die due to lag when you've got 6-18 people in the same place...but mostly they're easy.

I agree with him. With decent PT setups, and people who know what they're doing, AF3 can be a walk in the park. Preparation, Party Setup, and the people in your parties are usually the most difficult part of any quest/mission.

If you are like me and are up and coming and doing your AF's for the 1st time, you can disregard this guys statement.
It is NOT "ridiculously easy" and nor are any of the AF NM's, unless youve done all the things this guy has said he has done.

That's great. Troll me. ^^

Seriously, I'm sorry. My samurai AF3 was only the second AF3 I had ever done, and I was just a participant to hit things for Paladin AF3. It IS ridiculously easy. Meikyo. The black mage is down. Have someone kite the dark. The summoner is a paper doll, just like any player. He goes down really quick. The dark takes a bit longer to kill, but blood weapon is a joke.

I will admit. It -is- very hard to get people to help you. Why? Because of crap like this. People are -afraid- to help when they're 70+ because they're going to die! It's so ridiculous that they're afraid to die in a quest that can be done by a competent party of level 60s. I'm not saying you're a bad player if you fail it. It's not a walk in the park. But I guarantee I am not underestimating it any more than anyone else overestimates it.

But. I said feel free to rate me down. So you did. You're allowed your opinions.

My Party Setup:

PLD65/WAR
WHM61/BLM
BLM60/WHM
SAM70/WAR
SAM60/WAR
SAM58/WAR (Hey! That's me!)

This battle had my heart pumping the whole 7 minutes we were fighting, the SAM60 and myself needed the helm, I got the 70 SAM to help by loaning him my Haubergeon for his Maat fight (Which he successfully completed. I held his Ochiudo's kote as collateral) We buffed up, Meditated, waiting 3 minutes, and charged in. The BLM starts off by sleeping Onkri (the SMN's avatar) the 60SAM and myself charge Onki and start to pummel it with WS's, the 70 SAM grabs Gaki, and the PLD takes on Ratetsu.

The 60SAM and I, despite our efforts, (well, his efforts, I kinda... didn't use my Meikyo Shisui) didn't finish Onki off fast enough. The screen starts to shake and I watch in horror as Shiva appears on the screen, Diamond Dust cripples, but doesn't kill us, luckily, only the 60SAM and I were hurt. Shortly thereafter, Onki dies, and the 60SAM and I go to assist the 70 SAM who has been soloing Gaki.

As soon as we draw our swords, Gaki uses his 2hr and unleashes a fatal Flare on the 70SAM. At this time I activate my Meikyo Shisui and finish Gaki off.

Now to finish this fight, we turn our attention to Ratetsu, at this point I am positive we will win, but blood continues to pump faster and faster. Blood Weapon goes off, and is met with the PLD's Invincible, cancelling it out. The 60SAM Meditates uses Tachi:Yukikaze, and takes out Ratetsu.

Victory is ours, but not without a loss, the 70SAM took a silver bullet for the team. I want to thank him for not getting angry at all, and for coming to my aid when I asked for it. Thanks for being a good sport.

Battle plan:
-get buffed
-PLD run in and claim Ransetsu, and keep on him until the very end
-RDM keep summon slept while keeping Onki occupied and do some backup healing
-Me, other SAM and THF run all beat the snot out of Gaki, than roll into Onki and finally finish off Ransetsu

How it went down:
-Gaki is no joke, he uses sleepga and ancient magic. Me and SAM 2hr'd him to death with help from the thf's Sharkbite's
-PLD kept Ransetsu off of the rest of us
-RDM kept Onki from doing harm and for the most part kept the summon asleep
-the 5 of us moved into kill Onki but right before the ******* died, he summoned leviathan and astral flowed us :/ PLD and I dropped. WHM used benediction and fell shortly after.
- the RDM demonstrated his prowess as he tanked Ransetsu, beat his @$$ and the let the SAM and THF widdle him down.

This is a very challenging BCNM, I do not beleive it should be done without at least 1 or 2 higher lvl folks helping.

Good luck all

Just incase no one knew. These demons CAN be slept by a Brd. Having a high level Brd in this fight makes it sooooo very easy. Also! If you don't have Tachi: Yukikaze, use Tachi: Koki. These demons are very weak to Light elemental, and your koki's will do 400+ dmg almost everytime. Where as Jinpu and Enpi have the chance to miss one hit and do crap dmg. We had three sams in our party and 3 Meikyo Shisui's were used. Those demons didn't stand a chance.

Unless these BRD's you had are 75 its BS because i had a 73BRD that could not sleep them, only the avatar can be slept, just wanna point that out.

The timer Jaucribrix makes you wait isn't just 1 irl day. He made me wait 50 damn hours for him to finish with reforging the helm. -.-; Wish that had been included in the guide itself.

I'm not quite sure what you did, but you're wrong. You don't have to wait 24 RL hours. You have to wait for Japanese New Day, which is @11:00 AM EST, I believe. I did mine at 7:00 p.m. on a Sunday and picked it up around 12:30 p.m. on Monday; a wait of approximately 17.5 hours.

p.s.

I'm the samurai for the party Mirnen posted about. It was -ridiculously- easy. There were level 70s who were afraid to come and die. Meh! We showed them.
Bloody ass timer

We just did this for a dear friend that just turned 60sam yesterday. Our party makeup:
55whm/blm
60sam/war
60rdm/blm
61drk/thf
62drg/war
63pld/war (me)

After everyone told us we were all going to die horrible deaths, we went in and slaughtered the hell out of these demons. The rdm kited the drk demon around and slept the summoner's pet. We killed the blm first; the samurai pulled out Meikyo Shisui so we could kill it fast. The summoner summoned Garuda, who did Aerial Blast, and no one died. We dispatched the summoner swiftly. The white mage used Benediction after the smn demon died, but unfortunately the drk demon Stunned me at that moment, so the white mage went down under the drk demon's blade. I used Invincible against the drk demon's Blood Weapon, and we finished it off. Took us about 6 minutes, and that was with a minute of buffing once we got in (we didn't know if buffs would carry over or not).

Lesson learned? You do not need 5 level 75's to do this for you. In fact you do not need anything really more than a group around your level to do any of the AF quests. "High level help" is a convenience only. Just be careful, be smart, have a plan, and go to it. ^^
