Summary

At the close of the Great War, Gilgamesh's father trapped a terrible spirit within a helm. That helm has been stolen, and it is your job to hunt down the thief and get it back.

Walkthrough

Note: You must have completed The Sacred Katana - SAM AF1 and Yomi Okuri - SAM AF2, and waited until after JP Midnight, to obtain this quest.

First, head to Norg and speak with Jaucribaix at K-8. He sends you to speak with Gilgamesh.

You'll then need to do some traveling. Head to Port Jeuno and speak to Sanosuke at the Duty Free Shop. Then, go to Mhaura and talk to Phoochuchu at LFKDS. Next, go to Bastok Mines and open the door at J-6 for a cutscene. Last, go to Waughroon Shrine in Palborough Mines for another cutscene.

Return to Norg and speak again with Jaucribaix. He will give you a rare/ex item called a Banishing Charm.

Go back to the Waughroon Shrine and trade the Banishing Charm to the burning circle. Inside the BCNM, you will have 30 minutes to kill three demon NMs: Gaki (blm); Onki (smn); and Rasetsu (drk). After killing the NMs, you get another cutscene involving a ninja named Ren. He gives you a key item called Charred Helm.

Grab a Gold Thread and head to Norg and talk again to Jaucribaix. After the next Japanese Midnight, talk again to Jaucribaix to finish the quest and receive your Myochin Kabuto.

I did this quest last night with the following setup, and thanks so much to those who helped ^_^

73pld
70mnk
70blm
68whm
66rdm
62sam(me)

This was our strategy: we all gathered for warding circle, and then the pld went out into the arena and voked Rasetsu (drk). We left Onki (smn) on him while the mnk voked Gaki (blm).

GAKI: I let the mnk build up a bit of hate, then used five tachi:yukikaze (2med's and 2hr) on Gaki and he went down about 30sec later. We were lucky and he never used manafont and all his AM was interrupted.

ONKI: The rdm kept Onki's summon asleep while the mnk and I switched to him after Gaki fell. The mnk used his 2hr on Onki and he fell shortly after. No astral flow for us /cheer

RASETSU: The pld never had to use invincible because Rasetsu fell before he could use blood weapon. Very much a pushover.

We finished with 5min 1sec, and I was on cloud 9 until I got to Norg to find out I had to wait until midnight JP time...then I was in the depths of hell. And for those of you who know me, my company becomes most unpleasant when I'm mad ^_^;;

Just finished this NM battle tonight, and it seemed pretty easy to me.

Setup was:
lvl 59 Samurai/Warrior (me)
lvl 66 Thief/Ninja
Lvl 67 Dark Knight/Warrior
lvl 70 White Mage/Black Mage
lvl 67 Paladin/Warrior
lvl 69 Red Mage/Black Mage

I told them my initial plan which I thought would work, whihc was pld go in and voke the Drk demon, me and thf take out Blm demon while the Dark Knight takes out the Summoner. The pld said this wasnt a good idea and so we followed his plan.

He ran in and got hate from the Smn and the Blm. Everyone except for one person (The thf) attacked and killed the blm demon while the thf kept the drk busy. The blm fell pretty fast, and after that it was on to the Smn. The Smn also fell very fast, because I used my 2 hour on it. Finally the Drk went down quickly as well with a SA TA Sharkbite.

All in all with the right setup and battle plan this is a fairly is quest, just waiting for Jaucribaix to finish fixing the helmet.

NOTE: Dont forget to take a spool of gold thread to norg after the NM fight. They didnt have any in stock at the norg AH when i forgot it, and luckily i convinced a LS member to buy one and said it to me, but bring one to avoid any hassel.

hey I'm a 57 SAM myself, and this quest shall soon rear its head for me. My question is that it says that the level requirement 60 for this quest, yet I see alot of you noting that there were SAMs even at level 58 who had the quest flagged. Is the 60 a typo, is it possible to get it at less than 60 and it just wasn't updated, or did the SAMs in the pts level down alot after flagging the quest?

Don't be fooled by the posts here, this fight is NOT that much of a pushover. I went in with a 75RDM, 73WHM, 62PLD, 60SAM (me), 60RNG, and 59BLM and we got pwned within 30 seconds when Onki's summon did Diamond Dust. Half of us died right then and two more died trying to escape; the WHM was the only one to make it out alive.

Do not go after the blm first, or if you do, separate your party into two groups, one to take care of the blm and the other to kill the summons as they're pulled out. The second time we went in, the RDM and RNG pulled the summoner off to the entrance of the BC and worked him and his summons over; the pld and I went for the blm; and our blm DS+Bind-ed the drk to keep him out of our way while we pounded the blm. The summoner died when the blm had about a quarter of his HP left and everything was cake from there. We had a couple of close calls where the pld and the rng were in the red, but the rdm and whm were both on the ball and this time, nobody died. Full AF = yummy, even if it does make this elvaan chick look like a guy. -_-

On a side note, I used up my two-hour to self-skillchain the blm on the first run and barely put a dent in him. I did a five-part self-chain and still only took out about a quarter of his TP. I don't know what the above poster who took him out in three WSes was doing differently. Just let me say again, do NOT underestimate this fight!

Edited because like an idiot, I got the levels of the RDM and WHM backwards (even though I know better) and Jwb yelled at me. Even though he should get ALL the credit for coming up with a better strategy that had us winning the second time. I am shamed.

2 word Too easy

went in the pld got hate from all 3 mobs the rdm slept the elemental and pulled the smn away while pld focused on the drk and me and the other sam focussed our attention on the blm he went down in a matter of seconds then we slapped the smn don b4 it could 2 hour then we all focussed on the drk and pounded the crap outta it with it only landing one 2 hour enhanced hit against the pld. I dunno what was hard about this maybe it was the uber whm that kept us all healed not one person hit red and only the pld hit yellow. this is the formation that just kicks these nm's to the curb i recommend some of u try it when its ur time now to get the last 6k xp till i hit 60 hehe there goes 2 hours at the most of my time .

EDIT!!!!
Day 2 of the samurai helm (12 hours after turning in items to quest NPC)

OK is now 1211 pm EST a little over 12 hours since i turned my items in to Jaucribaix and since i turned it in at about 12 midnight last night/ this morning (whichever u prefer) and its like what an hour past JST midnight like a post a few posts down said i only had to wait till i have come to the conclusion that .........the poster is full of dookie hehe (god i love that album) anyways back on subject possibly its different per person or server but i highly doubt it. so in my humble opinion you should wait the full 24 hours (/sigh) and i wanted my cool helmet today for when i hit 60 :( t(^^t)@ u SE why have you cursed me????

EDIT 2.0!!!!!! (13.5 hours after turning in items to quest NPC)

OK I revoke my last edit in the light of me forgetting one key element during one of my blonde moments. I FORGOT TO ZONE OUT OF NORG!!!!! yep u have to zone out of norg for it to work I thought by temp logging this would have taken care of that but i was wrong. so in turn i didn't think of zoning out after that. So I'm sorry for calling the prior poster full of dookie. and now on with my lvling!!!!

lv74 healer, lv71 tank, lv68 damager, lv68 RDM kiting the SNM. Not surprised it seemed easy with that sort of strength there, plus sleeping the elemental and kiting the SMN is a good strategy. Nice when your tank can easily handle 2 mobs hitting him ;)

Oh and when you temp-log your character remains in-game.
doable
# Sep 19 2004 at 4:11 PM Rating: Default
ok, just did it, was pretty easy
but my LS helped me out a bunch, together with my static PT(credits to Vergil,Beren, and Mahora for helping)
PT config was:
MNK/SAM 75
RDM/NIN 75
RDM/BLM 75
DRK/SAM 66(myself, I decided my DRK would be more useful than SAM at 63)
WHM/SMN 63
PLD/WAR 63

Strategy was this one:
we gather at the bridge, I release Ancient Circle and once it runs out the MNK does.
Me and MNK took out the BLM, PLD held the DRK while the RDM/NIN took care of the SMN
WHM healed, And the other RDM kept elemental asleep+helped curing/nuking a bit

We meditated before start, so I could fire off a Guillotine, which had add. effect Silence automatically, a few moments later BLM fell since the MNK 2hrd, and I did as well.
Next Prey Was the DRK, took some time and PLD used invincible to hold hate against the still 2hr'd MNK.

The SMN 2houred when the DRK was almost down, that was our only downfall, the RDM/NIN fell down to 150hp because the elemental woke up right during SMN's 2hour, Benediction saved him and SMN fell right after, since me and the MNK were done with the DRK, too.

It would be probably doable if we'd have used a NIN instead of the RDM/NIN at say 60ish lvl and a 65ish BLM instead of the RDM/BLM^^

The AF wasnt as hard as I expected, it was well....easy as cake since everything was planned beforehand.

oh yeah one more thing, you don't have to wait a full RL day, only until the japanese daychange, aka 5PM my time, which is 11 am EST I think~
just my 2 cents
-cares ^^

i recently completed this quest saturday. this quest is no pushover. in my pt i had...

68whm/blm
68pld/war
75mnk/war
75drk/war
55sam/war
53sam/war (we both needed quest)

w/e we entered battlefield i immediatley did warding circle like an idiot. then the next horrible thing happened. we got to the bridge and instead of waiting for the pld to voke i ran in trying to pull the blm demon away. needless to say i got owned. soon after the whm went down. the monk used 2 hr and asuran fists about 8 times on ransetsu. shortly after the blm went down so did the other sam. afterwards the mnk pld and drk took on the smn the smn did astral flow and killed my drk. it seemed hope was lost but the mnk chakra'd for alot of hp and we ended up coming out on top.
reading the forums alot of ppl said it was easy but i think they were just pumped up that they completed it. advice i would give to anyone doing this quest for the first time is to not underestimate it and go in with high lvls and don't run in there like an idiot and die in the first 3 seconds like i did :(

Who:
Azynhito (59SAM/29WAR)
Marcel (60SAM/30RNG)
Loric (58SAM/29WAR)
Anduril (72PLD/36WAR)
Marrone (64WHM/32BLM)
Expisces (64RDM/???)

What: A Thief in Norg?! (Samurai AF3)

Where: Waughroon Shrine inside Palborough Mines (Phoenix server)

When: 3:00PM JST, Sept. 12, 2004

How: This party took some serious planning since the three Samurai listed above actually died on their first attempt with the help of a 72SAM/36WAR, 73RDM/36BLM, and 63WHM/???. (Names not released for confidentiallity). So, after refreshing the two-hour ability "Meikyo Shisui", the above party was formed and began the trek to the Burning Circle. Once inside the PLD provoked Ransetsu and solo'd him while the three samurai went for Gaki. Marcel immediately use Warding Circle and then proceeded with 2-hour. Gaki no match for Tachi Yukizake spammed. Somewhere in switching from Gaki to Onki, the White Mage dropped possibly from an Astral Flow attack. (Note: this battle is very fast and exciting). Gaki was not too hard as Azynhito used Warding Circle and followed with 2-hour and spammed Tachi Koki. As soon as Gaki fell, all three Samurai jumped Ransetsu. Expisces even joined the fight and did a DAMN good job keeping all of us healed while our White Mage was knocked out. Loric used his Warding Circle and 2-hour and spammed every WS you can think of. The final blow was by Anduril with a 300tp WS. No need to kill the elemental as the fight ended and cutscene occured. All in all, good battle and we broke the record on Phoenix! 5 minutes and some seconds! \(^o^)/

What a great day! Mad respect to all that helped and stuck through. Marrone-san, honto ni gomenasai demo omoshirokatta rate me down! m(_ _)m

woot! finally got my af helm ^^ lol but i dont have the body yet lol (argh, ill get it 2maro)

this was my pt (very intriguing set up lol but o well, these were the only kind folks who decided to help)

69pld
66pld
58sam(friend who needed it)
60sam(me)
66sam
74whm

and we owned em demons lol, its not that hard of a battle if you "know what ur doing"

lol blm nm never got to cast any ancient spells with like 100 hobakus waitin lol (excuse the exaggeration lol) he couldnt do crap

we killed the blm nm first while one of the pld just kept the drk nm busy

killed gaki, then we basically just slaughtered the other 2, the 66 sam owned Onki smn nm by himself bussin out sc's up the ***

he was dead

then we murdered the drk

all 3 nms did use their 2hr, but we were just 2 uber for em lmao^^

when the drk used his 2hr all i told my team was just let the pld voke it and do his invincible to counter it lol (no more hp regain for u Ransetsu lol)

there wasnt much to fear, this is however i say harder than the usual quest n is difficult if u going in their blindly.....but its not "omfg this is bs, enix go suck some ****** ****" hard

lol

Just did it and we broke odin record: We killd them in 4minutes 40 seconds. Our Party was :
75PLD
60SAM(ME)
75DRK
65-75SAM(HE was anon)
68 blm
62 smn

It was very easy. Our PLD took on one of the demons in the middle. While the melee killed the other two. We got hit with Astral Flow which almot killed our smn and blm but no one die.
I'm sorry i cant remember the names and the order of which we killed them. Good luck!:D Btw i'm waiting for the helm to be made. I logged out does anyone know if that matters or not?

I did this with the following party:

75Sam/Rng
66Sam/Thf
63Sam/War
63Whm/Blm
59Sam/War (me)
58Pld/War

The Pld ran in and used Invincible to get the hate. The 75Sam solo'd the Smn Demon and spammed Sidewinder. Me and the other Sam took on the Blm and beat it down pretty good, but the Pld and 66Sam died suddenly because the Smn managed to get out his Astral Flow before he was finished. Less than 5 sec later, the Blm fell and the Smn fell at the same time. We began fighting Rasetsu and he was 3/4 of the way dead when Whm used Benediction, after that... the poor demon was owned... bad.

everyone else except the 60rdm took on Gaki (blm),
2hr and just Tachi: Hobaku him for about 120~ dmg to keep him from casting ncient magic, the 60rdm healed as much as possible while running around from the last demon^^
There is a god! and he made phalanx ;)

LOL I just got this done last night and it was utter crazyness. Party consisted of 70rng, 73thf, 60sam, 61sam (me) 64whm and 60(somethin)pld he was on anon. Seem's like a crazy PT but it CAN be done, cause we did it. Either way we all died save the thf and whm, and the RNG died 2 times cause he used a Hi-Reraiser. (smart man, i highly recommend this in these types of battles.)

Anyway the smn and drk were killed which left the last demon and elemental, thf ended up taking the ele out right as the ranger used his Hi-Reraiser, he used slug shot which pulled major aggro and he died due to death weakness.

This left the thf and whm, who then quickly raise 1'd me as she was smn subbed with auto-refresh and under yag drink. I ended up getting the last hit in on the last demon and boom cutscene.

On that note a couple things to mention. If you have 2 samurai that need this, you only need to fight one time since both can throw in their charms. On another, I do recommend the Hi-Reraiser. Cause what could have been a hairline failure, can be a hairline success with this. Blink is very useful of course. This IS without a doubt the hardest artifact fight in the game. If you think the shadow lord was tough, heh heh heh...

(Jaucribaix DOES in fact make you wait a RL day. I keep slapping him. :) )

my take
# Aug 01 2004 at 2:59 AM Rating: Decent
I just did this tonight with:
61sam (me)
65blm
64whm
60pld
65drk
57smn

I engaged Onki, PLD engaged Ransetsu, and DRK engaged Gaki.
Off the bat, I did Warding Circle, and pulled out my 2hr. Before I could pull off first WS, SMN did Astral Flow. 2 WSs, and Onki was down. I then engaged Gaki, who was already down to less than 1/2 and didnt last long at all. Ransetsu was at about 70% when everyone engaged him, and he dropped like a ton of bricks.
WHM ran out of mp near the end, so PLD used his 2hr. I dont know if drk ever used his or not. I think so, but i cant say for sure.
Fight lasted 4min, 9sec, which beat the current record of 6:38, although I think the timer resets on server updates.
Anyway, was very much easier than expected, but everyone enjoyed themselves in that fight.
Our stratedgy

Here is wut my grp did to for the bcnm battle. our pt consisted of sam60 sam59(me) sam68 whm? pld?(near 60) rdm?

Me and the other lvl 60 sam ran in and pulled gaki to the back of the room... the pld ran up and pulled rasetsu off to the left side, the rdm and 68 sam took onki to the right side, and the whm of course kept everyone alive occasionally sleeping onibi. This worked out so that onki was killed first, at this time the rdm ran over to help out the pld, and the 68 sam ran to help with gaki. Gaki was the next to fall, he didn't last long against 2 meiko shisui's, and a lvl 68 sam... at this point i ran over to take on onibi while the rest of the grp ran to finish off rasetsu. Onibi was a pushover and quickly fell, but during this time, rasetsu was able to kill the pld, i quickly joined the efforts to kill rasetsu, and we finished the battle in 7 mins...

its really not all that bad the highest lvl was the 68 sam... no one else was too far past lvl 60... this is a stratedgy that does work, so uhhh hope this helped some

People DC all the time, so you died? **** happens, get over it. Blame someone b/c they DC'ed isn't their fault. Granted you want your AF, but don't hold it against others because of a slight inconvenience.
