Summary

To help save Dariah from her strange illness, you must gather the pages of the "Chanson de Liberte." The missing parts -- "Un Moment," "L'Ephemere," and "L'Ancienne" -- lie scattered about in various locations around Vana'diel.

Walkthrough

After completing "Love and Ice," Carmelo's second quest will open up to you, provided you have sufficient fame. Talking to Carmelo will give you a cutscene in which you learn that Dahlia is sick and only hearing a certain piece of music will cure her. Unfortunately, the pages for this masterpiece have been buried in three dungeons through Vana'diel. The three pages of the music are called Un Moment, L'Ephemere, and L'Ancienne.

These dungeons are the Labyrinth of Onzozo, Castle Zvahl Keep/Castle Zvahl Baileys and Sea Serpent Grotto. To acquire these pages, you need to open chests in each of the above dungeons. It should be noted that maps for both Onzozo and the Grotto are found in chests. If you have this quest activated, the first chest you open will have the music page, the second will have the map. It's also important to note that these are chests and NOT coffers.

All of the music pages are key items, so you will have to be the one opening the chests. Which means that, unless you are a thief, you will need to get a chest key.

Chest keys for the Labyrinth of Onzozo drop from: Cockatrice, Mushussu, Goblin Miner, Goblin Enchanter, Goblin Bouncer and Goblin Hunter. Opening the chest will give you L'Ancienne.

Chest keys for Sea Serpent Grotto drop from: Rivulet Sahagin, Brook Sahagin, Riparian Sahagin, Ghast, Ooze, Grotto Pugil, Ironshell, Bigclaw and Vampire Bat. Opening the chest will give you L'Ephemere.

Chest keys for Castle Zvahl drop in Castle Zvahl Keep from: Goblin Hunter and Demon Pawn. They drop in Castle Zvahl Baileys from: Demon Pawn and Demon's Elemental. Opening the chest will give you Un Moment.

Once you have all three pages, return to Carmelo. He will ask for some time to translate the lyrics. Zone out and back in and talk to Carmelo for a cutscene and 10,000 gil. After the cutscene, if you zone out and zone back in and talk to Carmelo, you will be able to obtain the quest "Lovers in the Dusk" if you have sufficient fame.

Which demons?
# Feb 20 2006 at 8:40 AM Rating: Decent
I zoned into Castle Zvahl and began killing every demon I could sic Carbuncle on. They conned a low EP to me, so I even brought out my NPC for a little extra fun. NPC left and I stayed for 2 more hours killing Demon Pawns. I even started killing Knights and Wizards (but I guess that did me no good).

What really hurt is I found a chest within the first 30 minutes. I just can't get a key. Should I go back and kill demon pawns until my thumbs bleed or will the ones in the first area (Dark Spark map) not drop the key at all?

Edit: I found posts under the Zvahl Chest key which stated that the first area drops are EXTREMELY rare. I need to go further in. At least passed the first four way intersection.

Well, for what it's worth, we didn't find the key drop to be all that difficult. I was there with my husband and a couple friends to do Dark Spark. Turns out I forgot to check the Port Jeuno boxes before going to the Castle, so I warped back to Sandy, grabbed the boat, got the cutscene, warped back to Sandy, and then outpost warped. All in all that took maybe 20 minutes to finish and in that time the rest of my party got two keys off the Pawns and the Knights. I didn't zone in time to get the second key >.<.

However, they also were pulling demons up from the lower areas, not just the demons in the upper 4-way intersection where Dark Spark is, so you may be right about mobs from other areas having better drop rates. These are still mobs on the first (Dark Spark) map, though. After the DS fight, three of us kept killing to get a key for me and it took approx. 45-60 minutes to get the key, again pulling mobs from down below, in addition to the ones on the upper level.

A word of warning in pulling from below: they wind around the bottom to get to you up by Dark Spark and get links as they go. One pull brought six of them up at the same time; another time it was five. Add in links from upper level mobs respawning during your fight and you can have eight or more to fight at once. You'll also get Demon Warlocks added to the mix when pulling from below. This wasn't a problem for us (all low EP to me and my husband at level 63, too weak to our friend) since I had sleepga, but, depending on your level, be careful if you're melee and/or you're alone. Otherwise, it's a great way to stand in one place and get a lot of key mobs to come to you.

Good luck. ^^
worth it?

does spending all these hours doing this quest really seem like its worth 10K? i mean i can make 13k-16k an hour farming or crafting, i think SE should up the money on these types of quests

Keep in mind, that not everyone do quests for the rewards. There's actually some story in them....

you gotta remember, SquareEnix didn't make the AH prices... players did.
Plus doing a quest adds that gil to the total gil on network(sorta a bad thing, since it would result in even more increased prices), AH is just giving gil to another player

I know this is an old post. However, it is a completely valid point to state that the quests do not give enough of a reward these days compared to what you can get in a few minutes by farming items that can be NPC'd for more.

Take it from someone who can farm some things and make 20k in 20 mins without ever worrying about risks, 10k is chump change.

For bards, this allows the next quest in the series which grant's you the Siren's Flute (Requiem +2), which is a nice lv 23 flute to have, seeing as equivalant and better ones aren't until level 58 and 68.

That aside, comleting quests allows you to see more storyline, it's part of the game, and always a nice experience.

For people who have done this, how often does the chest in Zvahl spawn? I've been hunting it for 4 hours straight now, running laps around and hitting all the spawn points. I'm the ONLY one doing this, and as far as I can see the only other people who have been in here have come only to hunt coffers down below, and one or two Dark Spark duos came through. Is this normal for Zvahl or is something wrong here?

Well, I decided to try out this quest (51THF/25NIN).

I went to the Labyrinth of Onzozo first (this was my first time ever going in there, actually). I found the chest within about a minute, not very far in at all, and picked it on my first try (used a Skeleton Key). Yay, one down.

Next I went to Sea Serpent Grotto. I spent awhile checking all the spawn locations for the chests, and found it near one of the last ones. Tried to pick it a couple times, only to get a trapped one. So I decided to look for it again, and headed out to check all the spawn areas again. Found it shortly, but I was still weakened from the last one. Luckily, the chest was in a spot that no mobs wandered near, so I just knelt down to heal next to it while I waited for Weakness to wear off. However, as I was waiting, a high-level RDM ran up and opened it. >_< At that point I decided to come back later, since it'd take awhile for the chest to spawn again.

Next I went to Castle Zvahl Baileys. I checked a few spawn points without any problems, though I didn't find the chest. Then sneak wore. I got it back up, but couldn't get invis up in time, and a Demon aggroed. I tried to make a break for the zone, and I made it (thanks to my evasion and Perfect Dodge), but I was hit with Choke and Burn, and had about 60 HP left, and they killed me. >_<;;

After that, I HPed and went back to SSG to try again. This time, I stupidly didn't follow my chest spawn map and went by memory. I found a chest, but it was surrounded by a bunch of DC and EP mobs. I picked it anyway, and got the song, and then had to deal with all the mobs. So I ran and ran, completely lost, and managed to make it to the area where a bunch of high level fisherman fish before dying yet again. This time, however, a kindly WHM cast Raise III on me, and I used a Silent Oil and ran to Norg.

Now I just need to get Un Moment from Zvahl... I think I'll just get it when I go there for my AF body coffer, though. -_-;;

Unfortunately, fame is not the only requirement for this quest.

In order to get this quest you must have completed 1)Stars of Ifrit and then 2)Love and Ice.

In order to activate Stars of Ifrit, you must have an airship pass. Talk to Agapito right outside of the airship dock building in Port Bastok to activate Stars of Ifrit.

If you have an airship pass and level 7 fame, I doubt you'll have any problems getting this quest provided that you complete the two quests that come before it.

^^^^ Also! You must read the letter (key item) that you obtain during Stars of Ifrit in order to activate Love and Ice, and then A Test of True Love. It's a small detail, but I was baffled for several days before someone posted this info on the Love and Ice page. Thanks Valyana

Do the song pages count as key items or do they each take up an inventory space?

The reward for this is 10,000 gil, I know they "adjusted" it with the latest patch (it says so in the developer section) so I dunno if it was less or more before... but its 10,000 gil now at least.

Also to get these pages you need to get the chest key and find the chest in each location. In Sea Serpent Grotto and Labyrinth of Onzozo if you haven't got the map from the chest yet youll hafta do it twice to get the page (first youll get the map, then the page).

I really hate how uninformative some of the guides are on this damn site.

I didn't have the map for Onzozo or Sea Serpent Grotto, and I got both pieces for the quest, rather than receiving a map.

I'm going to agree with Cym on this. Any time you have a flag for a quest, i.e. AF, you will receive the item before the map, if said chest/coffer contains a map as it's normal treasure. Play FF Cym.

They are correct. I just recently got a key for Sea serpant grotto and onzozo and got the pieces of music instead of the map for either place. I had forgotten I had the quest till I got the pieces of music instead of the maps.

No, I got this quest before the update. This is the second of three Carmelo quests. Once you complete Love and Ice, rezone and talk to him again to get this quest.

I don't know the fame requirement; I have max fame in Bastok at this point.

The update announcement does say something about adjusting the reward for this quest; maybe it's been increased to properly reflect the difficulty.
