Battle Notes

In order to enter the battlefield you will need to bring a Sky Orb, which is obtained by trading 30 Beastmen's Seals to Shami in Port Jeuno. When you are ready, trade the Sky Orb to the Burning Circle inside Balga's Dais and choose to enter the battle Creeping Doom.

Up to 3 people may enter and you will all receive a level 30 restriction. You have 15 minutes to win. You will face one opponent: A giant Crawler named Bitoso. He can cure himself, uses Paralyzga, all the regular crawler abilities, and has lots of HP. If you can bring him down you get a treasure crate filled with assorted rewards.

Strategies

BLM BLM DRK BLM BLM BLM

Make sure than the Black Mage's have /WHM and have Paralyna as the Crawler has an Area of Effect (AoE) Paralyze spell. You will also need Aspir/Sleep and a maxed Dark Magic skill level for this fight. Sleep and Aspir Bitoso until he has 0 MP and then nuke him until dead. He is resistant to Silence and casts Cure III on himself so it is important to drain all of his mana.

BLM BLM RNG

The Ranger will need to bring Sleep Bolts. Sleep and Paralyze Bitoso at the start of the fight. The Black Mages should then coordinate their nukes by casting together and the Ranger should sleep Bitoso with the bolts just after the spells hit. With repeated successful cycles, this battle should be easy.

DNC/NIN DNC/NIN NIN/WAR

Pretty easy BCNM. Went in with Utsusmei: Ichi up and some food buffs on and just traded taunt. The 2 dancers healed to trade taunt. Just played through the paralyze and cures and slows. Not a dangerous tactic but we got pretty close on the 15 minute period.

Tried this with a MNK/WAR (me), a DRK/THF, and a RDM/WHM. The DRK and I used Mithkabobs, the RDM was using juices and pies. We both had Protectra II on, and with my Dodge in place, it was missing about every other hit.

We almost had it and one point. The RDM, the DRK , and I were all saving TP up to 100. It'd go for a Cure III, STUN. Go for a Cure III, STUN. Go for a cure III, STUN. At one point we had it down to about | | on the bar, and one of the stuns didn't go through. It spammed Cure III three times in a row, and we never got the momentum back.

So if you can't silence, your goal is to STUN STUN STUN the damn thing. Do anything your power to interrupt its casting, and just hammer away with anything you can.

During that long run I was running Hundred Fists, which is EXCELLENT. I was droppoing about 35-45 damage a hit, rarely missing (Crawler has low Ev), and interrupting the casting with constant hits. I honestly think that if you came in with full TP to start with on everyone and got an outside Protect from someone, three Monks could take this thing down in the 45 seconds that Hundred Fists last.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get the Dispel scroll from this battle? It's listed as a possible reward for the other two BCNM 30s, but not this one.

Hi this is Proj from Bismarck. Went into this thinking it was normal BCNM. We did fairly balanced pt (PLD,BLM,RNG) with juices, appropriate food and potions. No luck. We tried this 2x before we figure out that the key to success is massive DOT. Switched to WAR/THF, DRK,WHM, RNG,WAR. We all used 2hrs and had the potions and DRK did some healing. Aspir/Drain were vital for DRK, bloody bolts were vital for RNG, extra potions were nice for WAR. You have to do massive consistent damage to bring downt his crawler.

Big Props to ApocalypseCow LS Woe (DRK) and Georgina (RNG) for taking it down.

Also loot sucked, didn't even cover our expenses. No special drops just something like iron ingot, mythril ore and silk thread. Probably need to do it again to see if one of the intended drops will occur.

Me a lvl 32 mithra rdm/blm a ranger/thf and a whm/blm went to do this thing, i bought applepies +1 8 melon juices and the second most potent ether (i forgot the name). the first 2 times he smoked us, but the third we got him to a quarter of his life, the reason why we died was because we runned out of mp, i aggree with unisages post, 2rng and a rdm are ideal, but i wonder what kind of mp food is the best? i want to try this later since i know this sucka is beatable :P thanks in advance

another note: the first 2 times i used elemental seal and wasnt able to silence him, the third i used it and it landed, then when it wore off i once again was able to silence him again w/o the seal , i wonder if silence arrows are avaible for lvl 30? i wanst able to find any in windhurst

For those that didn't read my post :(

This is a fight where you -don't- want a war, pld, whm, or rdm.

You want a party full of damage dealers.

Sam, Blm, Blm might be fun if the SAM does a 1 man skillchain and then has the BLMs do MBs :)

War is a very good tank and damage dealer, just change equipment and food accordingly, wouldn't reccommend war as a tank for this fight though. Be as it may that rgrs are great damage dealers, don't hate wars they get really awesome at high levels...

"War is a very good tank and damage dealer"

Actually, a WAR is neither. Equipment can't make up for a lack of natural abilities. You want a tank? Go get a PLD with the same good equipment, 15 more DEF, and 50 more HP. You want a damage dealer? Go get a DRK with the same good equipment, 15 more attack, and doing 50 more damage a battle.

WAR's are great in pt, don't get me wrong, since they can convert themselves into medicre PDL's or DRK's. But I prefer not to take them in my pt if they are trying to be all things to all people -- They suck at it, just like every other job sucks at that.

I think you're forgetting that at level 30 a WAR has access to both Berserk and Defender, which will make him as good a damage dealer as an equally equipped DRK or as good a defensive tank as an equally equipped PLD. I don't bring PLD's to BCNM's... ever. They can't do any damage at all and their defensive strength is wasted with no access to defender on their WAR sub. I would much rather have 2 melees with NIN subbed and Utsusemi who are good at bouncing aggro between them. Done perfectly, it is possible to beat a BCNM without HP ever going orange and no heals. To do that, you have to be able to inflict consistent damage. PLD can't do that and without his post-30 spells and abilities is not very useful in BCNM30. WAR/NIN is awesome because it can tank the hell out of stuff, keep aggro better than a pally at that level from damage alone on dual wielded axes (don't get me wrong, post-30 pally is the aggro holding king and WAR falls out of the tank role entirely.. I'm just saying for BCNM30 purposes). BCNM's are about taking down the nastiest NM fast, not about staying power. Damage and good tactics will always win out over tanking--any moron can take hits and receive heals.

The Raging Axe WS does as much or more damage than anything a DRK can dish out at lvl30 and a WAR has much better attack speed and accuracy, assuming the DRK is using the usual painfully slow scythe or great sword and missing every third swing, which is common. In the same swing time, a WAR/NIN is hitting twice and missing hardly at all with Centurion armor and accuracy+ rings. The Piercing Arrow > Raging Axe skillchain does insane damage for that level. WAR can also do *almost* as much damage with a crossbow at lvl30 as a RNG while benefiting the PT with sleep, acid and holy bolt effects. That means the WAR can shoot up the mob while it's bound without having to take unnecessary melee damage or go helplessly chasing down the mob when it comes after the healer. Also, don't forget that DRK's 2 hour is just about the worst in game and virtually useless in BCNM's where a WAR can fire up his and take something OUT or at least use it to pull more aggro if things get bad. Personally I prefer WAR in that he can throw up defender or berserk depending on what the situation calls for... it's silly to assume that your role won't need to change mid-fight if the mob does something unexpected. I think your comment about the "lack of natural abilities" is misguided. WAR is not made to be the greatest at any one thing, agreed, but it is the most versatile job in the game, which I think indicates a great deal of natural ability.

My team of WAR/NIN, RNG/NIN and RDM/SMN currently holds three speed records on Siren for BCNM30. We are undefeated in 16 attempts.

Wars can be convereted to damage dealers, imo.

A good 2hander, a damage dealing sub, berserk, mithkabob and they deal decent damage.

on the flip side - sword+shield, defensive sub, fishkabob/boiled crab, defender and they make a decent tank.
Bitoso Lvl 30 bcnm
# Apr 28 2004 at 4:03 AM Rating: Decent
My LS tried doin the lvl 30 bcnm. It did not go well.... We buffed up completely before each battle also.

First time:
Lvl 30 war/nin
lvl 30 sam/war
lvl 30 rdm/whm

We took about 1/3 of its hp, it got us tho.
Silence would not hold for more than a second.

Second time:
Lvl 30 sam/war
lvl 30 thf/rng
lvl 30 whm/ forgot the subjob

Got the crawler to less than 1/2 hp but mage ran out of mp, we didnt bring any juice >.<

Third time: Same part as second
Got him down to 1/2, kept paralyzing as usually along with constant cure 3. The timer ran out so got nothing but wasted beastman seals again. I used fish mithkabobs, thf used meat kabobs and the mage used melon pies and juice

Fourth time:

Lvl 30 sam/war
lvl 30 rdm/whm
lvl 30 whm/...cant remember

We barely did any dmg to him, the constant cure 3 is unreal.... All the juices fish kabobs and pies as usuall but we barely could move his hp....we all died, hell i was even using selbina milks lol

I don't know if I can believe the 3 rngs killing him, maybe but I dont really think so. He can do cure 3 forever, never could silence the ????er, if it did silence him....it was for a very short period of time.

Maybe the potions that cause mobs to be silenced would work....not sure tho, that would be a big help if they worked and lasted. So far it is impossible for us to kill him

Here's a hint...

***** silence. Get the RNG to use sleep bolts on a crossbow. With 3 RNG have 2 use holy bolts and the other spam sleep bolts. Sleep has the same effect as stun, even if it doesn't last, in terms of interrupting a mob's cast.

Latent Effect means it only works when your HP is in the red and you are near death, thats my understanding. Please correct me if I'm wrong (or confirm that I am right). All the earrings the mob drops are Latent Effect so that kinda makes em slightly less desireable since you ideally never have to go into the red in a good party, and doing so on purpose just for the effect is dangerous and stupid since its lvl 30+ (in my humble opinion anyways).

all latent effect for the Lv30 job earrings and belts... (ie: magician earrings +30 MP Latent effect) are based on your sub job...
for magician earring... if your subjob is smn...
your char will recieve +30 mp...
genin earrings +4 agi: for nin sub...
pilferer: +2 dex: for thf sub...
and so on...
these are great earrings to have....
i don think any earrings are as great at LV30 as these...
+30 mp for an earrin slot for whm/smn?
or +4 agi for thf/nin or rng/nin..

I heard it works when you're down to yellow (75%), I want 2 items from this place (the earring that has a latent of 4 defense and the one that gives Vit), but seeing from how everyone is talking about how tough this fight is, I may not even see how this will be.

Not all latent effects are dependent on your HP. For example, for the Wizard's Earring the condition for the latent effect is simply having BLM subbed.

What a mistake. A Samurai, Black mage, and a dragoon. No juices, no food. Just wanted to see what it was like. You get a lot of time to think when your character is K.O.ed, lol

How to win
# Apr 27 2004 at 12:28 PM Rating: Excellent
After losing 3 times, I finally figured out how to win.

4th time I went in with Rng, Rng, and Rng.

The actual fight took us all of 10 seconds (I'm not exageratting).

We all opened with Barrage and Eagle eyes. We set the server record on Bahamut.

Drops were 3 silks, Utsusemi: Ni, and Healer's Earring.

Bisoto is a crawler. He does all the typical crawler specials (Cocoon, Poison, etc...) and also has two other abilities: Paralyzega, and Cure III.

Bisoto will cast Cure III almost constantly, and with the defense boost move, along with the crawler-type's naturally high HP, this mob takes FOREVER to kill.

I finished it with myself as a mithra red mage (Rolanberry Pie and 3 bottles of melon juice needed), an elvaan samurai (mithkabob), and an elvaan ninja (mithkabob).

Took us a bit over 9 minutes to finish the thing off, and we would've lost if the samurai hadn't used his two-hour.

Even with all three of us whacking away at this mob, its HP would hardly drop, and was actually climbing at many points, due to the huge amounts of Cure III this thing will cast. I don't believe it can be silenced (I was using a +4/+4 wand, and full +MND gear, with capped enfeebling, and couldn't land it once!)

Upon further reflection, I believe the ideal party setup here would be two ranger/ninjas and a rdm/whm.

As if Rangers need Provoke to keep aggro anyway...

The reason I suggest a rdm for the healer role is that this battle REQUIRES huge amounts of damage, and since a red mage still does viable damage with a sword at level 30, it's a good compromise. Juices & +MP foods WILL be needed, however (even if you're tarutaru.)

This was a fun battle - we ended up doing 3 or 4 weaponskills each, and lots of skillchains (but I'd recommend not bursting, if you're the healer - cures are going to be more important than the nukes).

Just focus on doing the maximum amount of physical damage that you can, and you should be fine! Happy hunting! ^^

It is possible to silence it. We went in today with a DRK, MNK, WHM. We alomst one once, but we ended up dieing both times(we were so close). But you can silence it, the WHM silecned it 3 times during the two battles. When the othe people in the PT are doing ok try to silence it. It will work its just hard to get it to work, but it majorly helps. Try it.
