Party setup 20MNK/10WAR <me>
20WAR/10THF
20WAR/10DRK

Items used 5 hi-potions, 3 antidotes, and meat mithkabobs

First we all used out 2hr and attacked the gaint bat. We killed him easily. After the 2hrs wore off the WAR/THF ran out of potions and died. I took down one of the furies and then I ran out of potions and died. We got the 2nd fury down to about 40% health and then the WAR/DRK died. First time try wasnt too bad. I think more potions will do the trick.

Ok my friend and I leveled BST just to do this damn BCNM......We have it down to a damn science as to how to beat this. All I know......is the drop rate for the Astral is GARBAGE! We have won this BC every time and are currently 0/19 on astral drops.

lol I give up on this one.

Well me and my friend have found a very reliable strategy for duo-ing this bcnm and i figured i would post it here for others to try out.
Ok, the 1st thing is do NOT go on darksday. Drain hits way harder, also Chr being light based the Bst's charms will be weakend so avoiding this is highly advised.
The setup we used is Drg/Blu (me) and Bst/Whm (friend).
The strategy is for the Drg to use cocoon at the start (<3 +50% def) and immediatly have the Bst try to charm one of the trio bats. He will draw aggro from all 3 bats. The Drg then engages the other trio bats and begins to solo, I like to lead off w/ a sprout smack for slow effect. The Bst either sends his charmed bats at the single bat (colo-colo) or if charm fails begins to kite. The Drg will be able to solo his bats very easily. If the Bst starts taking lots of Dmg. have him run by the Drg and cast a spell to activate a healing breath, then continue his kiting/attempting to charm. After the Drg finishes his bats either move to the single bat or rest some mp, up to you. With only 2 bats left finishing off the remaining bats is easy.
Reccomended food meds and equip is yag drinks for each person hp drink for Bst. I like using rice dumpling for my Drg, to help kill mine faster. Bst uses chr food. I've never needed ethers or pots so i won't reccomend them. As Drg i load up on +hp gear for a higher healing breath trigger, my healing breath hits for 84 HP each time i use it. Bst obviously load up on every point of chr you can get, and +hp for the higher HB trigger as well
Outcome: We have won this BCNM 9/10 times so far. The only loss was due to many misscharms and us still trying to work out our strategy. It was our 2nd attempt that we lost on.
Anyway good luck to anyone who tries this out. Btw the drop gods hate us and we have yet to get even 1 astral from this. We will get them eventually though :)
Try this strategy

Looking at the post below, I tried a similar strategy to the hypothetical party. My party looked like this:

SMN/WHM (me)
PLD/WAR
BST/WHM

We went in and I cast protectra and barpoisonra. That eliminated a lot of downtime before actually fighting. The BST popped his tuna food and then went to charm the furries on the right which he sicced on Colo-colo. Meanwhile, the PLD and myself went for the other Furries. I used Garuda (bats are weak to wind) while the PLD tanked. The BST came over to help beat on our furries while the other furries was fighting Colo-colo. When charm wore off, the BST just recharmed and continued with what he was doing. We killed our furries and rested while the first furries continued to fight. By this time Colo-colo and the furries that was still left had about 30% HP. Once we rested enough to get back in the fray, we took out COlo-colo really quickly, followed by the furries. All in all, this was very easy, but depended heavily on whether or not the BST was able to charm a furries quickly. If he failed more 3 times in a row, we were sunk. Also, use yag drinks (or in our case, we just used grape juice) to keep mp up for everyone through out the battle.

So far we have won 3/7 (due to bad charms and bad luck) and gotten the Astral ring 2/3 and the Thunder Pact 1/3. Astral Ring going for about 800k and Thunder Pact going for about 100k.
Try this strategy

Update: We ended up going 7/13. Got Astral ring 3/7 and Thunder pact 3/7. Happy hunting!

Alright, so I just recently did this BCNM with some LS friends, just out of the blue, so little prep or anything. Nothing special on the drops. However, our BST wasn't at the 20 cap, so she came as BRD/BST.

Party setup for actual trials:
RNG/WAR - Me
BRD/BST
DRG/WAR

Ouch, yeah, poor party. We each took like 4 potions. First battle went well, but the second battle the DRG/WAR ran out of potions and I didn't kill the last set of bats with EES. Shucks. BRD ended up killing last bats for the SAME drops as before.

Hypothetical Party setup:

BRD/BST
BRD/BST
PLD/WAR

Okay, BRD/BST, at least as a hume, will give you the CHA of like a BST19/WHM or something. I don't know for sure. But in any event, high CHA for charm, but the beauty lies in Lullaby. If your BRD's have Lullaby+ instruments, they can lullaby if charm fails.
So, Charm, sic the bats on big bat. If anything goes awry, the PLD can voke/heal, and/or BRD's can Lullaby.

It's purty. I'm going to try it soon as I get my BRD to 20 and BST to 10. Wish me luck!

Just solo'd this as BST/WHM. Took 6 hi-pots, a yag drink, and a boiled crab.

Ran in, charmed a furie on 2nd try, familiar, and sic'd him on colo-colo.

Switched to axe, shield, and str+ rings, and tanked the other furie while my familiar'd furie took colo down to 25% or so.

Charmed furie died, so I switched to charm gear (signa, and CHR+ rings) and charmed the furie i was beating on, sic'd him on colo-colo.

Had to re-charm him one time, then colo died. last furie was @ 25%.

Whipped out the axe again and beat the last furie down for the win.

All in all, wasn't too difficult, use hi pots when you have to, and you'll live, if you plan on soloing it.

Cleared it in 8 mins 27 seconds.

All I can say is you must have been lucky, and i wasnt!!!!!!!! Cast protect, popped a yag, then went in. Charmed first furie np, familer, sic'ed on colo, np. Started in tanking 2nd furie, swiched gear as you said, popped my first hi-potion, then colo's hate was on me. Flited far away, popped another hi-potion, and colo was on me again. After bout 5 hi-potions, familer dies. colo maybe down 15 percent. Finally after 2 charm attemps on 2nd furie and 3 more hi-potions. GAME OVER. I LOSE.

geared for chrasma with food +23, ate tuna sushi.
Monster Signia, Noble's Ribbon, Bird Whistle, 2 Tourmaline earrings for wind resistance, 2 hope rings, Fine jerkin, Kingdom gloves and boots, Royal Footmans trouser, Warriors belt +1, dhamel mantle, battle axe +1 and Tropical Shield for wind resistance.

Edit: Going to try this again with the steamed crab, and not the tuna sushi, losing the chr from the tuna and gaining the defense from the crab. Will edit post and let you know how it goes.

Edit: Died again, dont do this!

This BCNM is easy with 2 BST/WHM. Me and a friend of mine go in with our Monster Signia's, pop a plate of Tuna sushi each, and one casts Protectra.
Each one of use charms one of the Furies and one 2hrs and sic both the Furies on Colo-Colo. After colo dies let the non-2hred bat kill the 2hrd one and hammer away on the lats one. Easy money. Execpt the lest 20 times i have done it only 3 Thunder Spirit Pacts and no Astral Ring. :( SE must really hate me.
P.S. The last time I did itwe couldn't charm the Furies and my friend died in 4 hits, even with both of us spamming cures on him.
too easy

Me and 2 friends (espio and axcel) do this BCNM weekly for the past motnh or so and each time do it 6 times and with a setup of 2 BST/WHM aand 1 RDM its a walk in the park

heh we prefere our charms not to work for this everytime adds excitement to the battle so were not bord while we do it but were something like 0/24 for the astral ring lol trying aagain this wekend hopefully will be fun

recommend:
2Beastmaster's / White mage
1 Red Mage (when on the last bat can heal and nuke makes it really quick)
Food- Tav Taco's great food stat + is great
and if you use the 2bst set up try to have as much CHR plus as posssible for charming and don't use your 2hour even if you haven't charmed for 5+ times in a row if you use your 2hour theres aa risk of running out of time
Tactic:
chaarm the lesser bats to attack the mainboss bat once charmed it's best to stay on the othger side of the area so u can stay out of the range of poison also it govees u a chance to charm before getting hit. err once main boss is dead kill the bat with the lowest hp first then go all out on the l;ast bat and works like a charm

- Tav taco is best, but other defense foods works. Just face facts that you're gonna get hit.

- Grab Hi-potions, perhaps around 5.

- Bring Pet food. Zeta.

- Yagudo Drinks or Pineapple just is optional, but I always stock a couple.

Then just pray that your first charm land in a timely matter. If it does, then you're well on your way to victory.

I'm such a cheap *** when it comes to BC's, I refuse to buy potions or anything >.>

Duoed this as a Bst/brd Me), and Bst/whm

We've won out of the 5 runs we did,(Spaced out times, not consistent). Basically we eat whatever food we had brought on the run (I used Tuna Sushi) and had bst/whm buff us. Let her regain some MP, then moved on to the bats. Charm failed a few times like I thought it would, but when it stuck, I two houred and set it off on Colo. Bst/whm charmed other bat and sent it attacking as well.

Seeing as I never thought of leaving the battle field or temp loging, I'd order my bats to stop attacking (Affter colo killed other bats of course) and just let mine die. Seeing as Colo was low on health we just beat him to death normaly. I honestly wouldn't suggest doing it my way, I'm just too cheap XD the battle takes a lot longer seeing as of the lack of potion and drinks and what not for MP/HP.. and drops rates too nasty to begin with @_@

0/4 on rings.

Did this bcnm 4 times today and only won once. Setup was 2 war/mnk, whm/blm
We were kind of inexperienced with this bcnm so the first one we did, we failed miserably. The next one went much better with me first running in and provoking Colo and attacking the Fury on the right. The other War provoked the Fury on the right to tank it, and we killed that one first. Then we went and attacked the other Fury and killed it, and after that finished Colo off. However, this only worked because I had a ton of potions and pear au laits to keep my hp up and both Wars had to 2hr.

The next couple of tries I tried to change the strategy a bit. I tried to run in and just get hate first from all of the mobs and then provoke only Colo so that we could kill it first. However, this was difficult because whm couldn't keep up with healing me while I took a beating from all 3 and also an extra strong drain from Colo, I think, took a lot out of me, and I couldn't use a potion before the next melee hit.

The next fight went similar as the last except this time I grabbed hate from all 3 and then the other War provoked a Fury and we tried to kill it first. However, once again Drain from Colo took too much HP off of me and I couldn't get a potion used fast enough so I died.

I plan on trying this again with a tank, melee, healer set up because I frankly don't feel like leveling bst, drg, or smn. I think my set up can work a lot better if I set my macros up in a better fashion. I didn't have my potions macroed so tabbing through my inventory wasn't fast enough. In the end I have to say it was fun doing things in a different way.

My japanese friend, Turuta, and I did this BCNM the other day, the first BCNM for the both of us, too. He currently is a 42drg/~ and myself a 31bst/~ but the cool thing is despite the fact we get level restrictions his dragon stayed at lvl 42(so I've read) and both times when smoooooth. Though the second time I had to kite one of the Flurries for a few seconds. ^^ Didn't get anything to wild but got a new lance for him.

I"m not to sure about soloing. I probably will end up doing it anyways just to see if I can do it. I'll go in there with a bunch of X-Potions, refresh drinks and some Tuna just to make sure.

his wyvern does not stay lvl 42.
if that were true, he would be able to solo this bcnm, because his wyvern would kill the bats in a few hits.

i did this bcnm with 2 drg and with 2 bst, bst is 95% succes while drg is about 80% (depends on luck, sometimes the bats seem to be in a bad mood)
drg do need some potions to survive.

i'm going to try this bcnm as a taru blu/whm.
see how good blu can do in this bcnm.
since i can still solo tough mobs, i'm guessing with some potions (just in case) ;-)

Tried doing this the other night with two LS mates with the following setup:

bst/blu
bst/whm
pld/war

Head in, bst both ate food to boost chr. I, as pld, buffed everyone with Protect/Shell, rested MP, then popped a pineapple drink for MP regen. (I had fish mithkabobs on me, but never used)

Bst/blu buffed his def high and took the bats on the left. Charmed them on the 1st try. Bst/whm charmed 2nd set of bats on the 2nd try. Neither one had to use their 2hr. In between, I stayed next to him and cured him. Once both sets of bats were charmed, we proceeded to attack Colo-Colo. I joined in, just to have something to do. lol

Bats for bst/whm died and Colo-Colo turned on him. I provoked and turned the NM with little trouble. We killed Colo-Colo with little effort, and I had 2 hi-potions in reserve, but never used them. Once Colo-Colo was dead, we waited for the charm to wear on the remaining bats. Once they were free, I provoked again and held them on me while the 2 bst wailed away. We actually managed to pull off a SC before they died. No one dropped below 1/4 HP at any time in the fight.

Didn't get Astral to drop, but did get the Thunder Pact, which sold on Ifrit for 120k. I plan on going back until we all get an Astrals. Tailor made bcnm for pld's and bst's.

easy enough. Go in, you charm this one I the

We go in, buff up and walk 3 steps and they come
for us. I missed 3 charms befor it stuck, other beast charms his and 2Hrs. The Red bat goes down
fast, next we kill the 2Hr pet and finish with mine. Went smooth :) did this two times. For the final one we wiped cause the charms didn't seem to land quick enough and WHM died after doing 2hr :(
I was fun and can't wait to go again.

I used to this BCNM SMN, SMN, PLD and had no major troubles, died maybe twice though.

I recently started playing again and had to start from scratch, and I want my Astrals back.

Current setup is: BST/WAR (me), BST/WHM, WHM/BLM.

I have read about not using Monster Signa etc etc, but to be honest I've found it much easier with. We use Taznavian Tacos, have Monster Signa, hope rings, noble ribbon / enchanting ribbon so we end up with 23 + 22 CHR or something close. Fails do still happen, but its fairly rare.

We buff, BSTs circle round and charm their respective furies, set them on Colo-colo. Then just recharm when it drops, WHM slots the odd heal in.

We're yet to die, had a 62 HP on one BST once after a bad run of charms (around 7 in a row missed) but you just need to kite them, these guys are pretty slow so you shouldn't be taking too much damage even if your charms are failing.

I'm not 100% sure if this helps them, but we have killed them on Windsday, Thundersday, Earthsday all with no issues.

So far, we're 0/9 on the Astral which sucks. We've had 2 Thunder Pacts which go for about 150k each so its better than nothing, but not what we are looking for. We've tried the 'luck items' (mandy buds, rabbit tails etc) and so far none have had any effect (not that we really thought they would...).

Like this, there might be one more person who wants an Astral but I'd prefer to win easily and just keep repeating. Using this method we finished this 9 times in about an hour and a half, warping back to Jeuno then tele'ing to Holla after each run of 3. This is because we don't have to bother 2 houring, unless we feel like it. Although there is that extra person to share drop with, this is a pretty bulletproof method and we can get through some heavy numbers of drops in a small session.

So far we have had:
Sneak
Invisible
Platoon Axe
Platoon Dagger
Green Rock
Translucent Rock
Black Rock
Bat Fang
Ganko
Thunder Spirit Pact
Mythril Beastcoin
Yellow Rock
Platoon Edge

Unfortunately, its mostly cr*p. Hopefully the Astrals will start dropping soon :)

Tavanzian tacos lol, thats a mistake, I mean it increases your Def and Vit, But if your doing this BCNMN for money... Tacos are 70-100k a stack =/ Use Sandy, Windy, and/or Batok Tea it gives you more CHR up and cost like 500 gil each ^^;

Hmmm thats a fair point :) This time I was actually not doing it for profit but for the ring drops - maybe next time (and seeing as we've never had trouble completing it) I'll take something not as good as the tacos.

Just to update - I'm away from FFXI for a couple of weeks due to job-related training, but as a duo we are currently 1/24 on this BCNM (that is to say, we have had 1 Astral in 24 runs, and have never lost the fight).

The drop rate SUCKS.

So some random group asks me if I want to do Wings again, I say sure, figuring I could use the practice even if I didn't get to use my orb. Setup was NIN/WAR BST/WHM WHM/BLM. I was dubious about this setup so I said I'd want 20k if I died. They said sure, whatever.

We go into the fight, and one main thing goes wrong: my charms keep f*&!ing up. I (BST) have 23 chr +8 chr in eq (31), but the fury won't get charmed. This leaves the NIN to tank Colo Colo and Fury while WHM heals him while I try to get the other fury charmed. Seeing the NIN low I go over to fight colo colo while I try to get motherf#@$ing Furies charmed. Even after 8 tries I can't get it charmed. The previous fight I charmed the furies at least four times. We all die. So, the setup was a bad idea IMO. Not having some other pets to tank without my pet charmed we bit it. Sucked. I told them they didn't have to pay me, esp. since WHM de-leveled. Next time I'm going with +chr food instead of apple pie.

Well, did this twice today, and it was pretty freaking easy the first time and difficult the 2nd.

The first: We go in buff and get ready. Mnk takes one fury and unloads on it with two-hour and combos, Smn goes after Colo-colo with carby, and I (BST) go to charm the fury. Takes a couple tries but no worries since the fury only hits for about 20. Send fury onto colo colo. Unfortunately Mnk dies, but we finish off her Fury anyways. Charms are slightly difficult, often took more than 1 try to do it, but it lasts for a decent time. After we kill colo colo, we keep fury charmed and stayed while we heal. Once we're healed, we go after the fury and finish it, maybe charming 1 more time to get hp/mp again. I didn't have any medicines, but I think the other two did. Easy fight. Drops sucked tho: mythril beastcoin yellow rock and invisible scroll

Next time sucked tho.
