ok, my first (any only thankfully) fight with garuda has to be the luckiest fight i have ever had

go in, i have p2 and s2, use aquaveil
get to the crack, use the boiled crab and summon carby
let carb pound on her for one life (to get rid fo the areal armor mainly), resummon him at the bottom
go up to her, use searing light, book it backc to the top, but notice my mp isnt coming back
>< forgot to use a yag drink so im in uber panic mode, use a yag, ether, and summon carb while she is pounding on me relentlessly
somehow get carb out and manage to run away, use potions, carb dies, resummon him and use searing light again
get to the top, use one last ether
Chrissoul's astral flow ability wears off
well, im ******* but she has about 1/8 of her hp bar left so i decide im gonan give her one hell of a fight before i go out, so i start to attack
with no potions, ethers, yag or anythign left, she falls

total hp left: 8
total mp left: 3

i still dont know how hte hell i pulled it off but i did, and i got the record with 9:10, still think i was the first person to attempt it

so yes boys and girls, the physical earrings will save your *** (i had 48 left when i beat shiva, so had i not had them i surely woudl be SOL

but i think it used up all of my luck with the avatar fights, cause i have lost all since, but oh well, least i have the ladies ^_^
Am I doing it wrong?
# Sep 13 2004 at 2:13 AM Rating: Decent
Okay. I'm a level 20 smn. I got the quest. I got the MINI fork. I trade it to the Mithra in Raboa. I get sent to Cape Terrigan. I click the proto-crystal thinger then my options are "Trial by wind" and "none". I choose "Trial by wind" then proceed to have Garuda 1-hit kill me. This has happened twice. I'm OBVIOUSLY fighting the wrong Garuda. ~Please help!
RE: Am I doing it wrong?
# Sep 13 2004 at 11:24 AM Rating: Decent
Yes, you are. You are supposed to TRADE the mini-tunning fork to the protocrystal, otherwise you end up fighting the Garuda that's meant for the party of 60+'s. Hope this helps you.

The fastest, and IMO easiest and definately cheapest way to fight the avatars is the 3 Searing Light method. Here's how I beat Titan and Shiva (waiting for next Lightsday to fight Garuda for first time):

Brought: 1 Yag Drink, 2 Ethers, 1 Pamama au Lait (HP regen), 1 fish mithkabob (or boiled/steamed crab).
Only had to use Pamama au Lait in one of the fights vs. Titan, and wasn't really neccesary.
OK.
Get the Teleport to the Crystal.
Cast Protect, Aquaveil, and eat the fishkabob/crab.
Trade Fork to Crystal to Enter Battlefield.
Run up the path to the last crack, near the top.
Summon Carby from far enough away to get him out (shouldn't be hard as Garuda uses Aerial Armor right away).
Have Carby Assault Garuda.
Use Yag Drink.
Use Astral Flow.
Make sure you're close to Garuda, use Searing Light, and don't run till it hits.
Once it hits, run as far down as possible.
Wait for Carby to get beaten.
Use Pamama au Lait if ya want for HP.
Summon Carby when Garuda is halfway down the path.
Run up to Garuda, use Ether, and Searing Light (should be ready by then).
Stay close till it hits, then run to the top.
Now this is where the Avatar usually uses it's 2HR. This is where luck comes in.
If they use the 2HR, just keep running as fast as possible to the top.
When you get as far up there as you can, all the way to the back, summon Carby.
If you're not dead, and Carby is out, YAY!
One last Ether (if you don't have 40 MP).
One last Searing Light.

I've beaten the record everytime with this method, and it only costs me about 4-5k each battle, so it's the cheapest and fastest, and I found it to be the easiest.

Hope this helps!
Bye!

I have a very funny story for y'all, it's about my first Garuda fight!
Ok, so I get the tele to the crystal area.
I cast Protect, Aquaveil and eat a Fish Mithkabob.
I enter the battlefield.
Ran up the path to the same point I always summon Carby from, and Summon Carby.
Then I Press the buttons (Ctrl 1) for the macro that usually makes Carby Assault the Avatar.
I see the /echo Release and I'm like OH ****!
I had it on the wrong macro set.
So now I hav no Carby and Garuda wants to kill me, so I book it down the path.
I go as far down as possible and try to summon Carby, but Garuda keeps hitting me.
I use my Pamama au Lait and keep trying to summon the Fuzzy Blue Bunny Mouse.
I finally get him out, and use Yag Drink, Astral Flow, Searing Light and book it to the top.
I use a potion when I get up there, which brings my HP back to 84ish.
Carby dies, I resummon, Use searing Light again, it's going really well.
Garuda gets pissed, uses Blizzard II on me, I live so I'm like, I've got this punk beat.
I go back down the path, Carby dies, I resummon, use and Ether and Searing Light Garuda for the last time!

Beat her. It was the most unlucky then lucky thing ever.

If I'd had the right set of macros up, it would've been much easier.

Here's my Macro list if Y'all want it.
CTRL:
1-/ja Assault <t>.
2-/item "Yagudo Drink" <me>
3-/item Ether <me>
4-/item "Pamama au Lait" <me>
5-/item Potion <me>

ALT:
1-/ma Carbuncle <me>
2-/ja Astral Flow <me>
3-/ja Searing Light <t>

This allows fast and easy access to everything I've ever needed for these fights.
Occasionally I check in Pet Commands to see if Blood Pact is ready for another Searing Light.

Good luck to all my fellow Avatar Killers!

The only other thing I did was cast Dia on Garuda. Even if you die, if her HP is low enough, just wait a few min. and the avatars usualy die from it. Even if you're dead you still get credit for the fight if they die.

Mini Battle infos
# Aug 31 2004 at 12:44 AM Rating: Decent
http://www.summoner.info/
This is the best site I've found on fighting those Mini-battles.
Garuda blink's herself in the fight, and her 2-hour (which she will use when low on HP) is the most devastating of any avatar I've fought.
Items I use:
Boiled/Steamed Crab X1: For Extra Defense when she's hitting you.
Pear/Periskos Au Lait X1: for HP regain to make sure you are in good shape.
Yagudo Drink X1: An absolute must.
Hi-Potions x3: Emergency only.
Ether x3: To regain mana.
Here's my tactic, same as on the site.
1:Use crab, au lait, and Protect Spell.
2: Charge up the hill until you can target the Avatar.
3: Summon Carbuncle. Avatar's comin' to get you, now. Assault! Yagudo drink!
4: stand CLOSE to the fight between the two avatars, and use Astral Flow. Avatar hate goes to you. It's IMPORTANT to not run away!
5: Searing light the heck outta the mob. Hate goes to Carby once it connects. Then, you run down the hill aways and use an Ether. Carby's still up and kicking. Wait about for MP tic from yag drink to bring you up to where you need to be to Searing light again. Summon carby if he dies, make sure that avatar is way way aways from you.
6: Once you're close to cast searing light again (1minute recast time) charge into the fight, and fire it off. Hate goes to you for a second... then back to Carby once it connects. NOW, run the heck away, as far as you can. Here comes enemy 2 hour!
7: Ether. Summon Carby, because he's probably dead unless you luck out. Searing light the beastie a third and final time once the timer gets past that 1 minute mark.
8: Okay, Yag drink wears off here. Carbuncle's gonna unsummon any second. Enemy avatar is nearly dead.... what do you do? You charge the battle and engage the avatar in hand-to-hand combat with something like a mercenaries staff. Here's where those Hi-potions come in. If you've done everything right, she'll fall right over and that puppy is yours.
Heck of a fight, and usually over in 3 and a half to 4 minutes.
Palom!

I have tried Garuda 4 times so far, and have lost 4 times. First time was on Lightday. I got her down about 1/3 of the way, then used my 2-hour and Searing Light. Took all my MP and Carbuncle was gone. Garuda then proceeded to head my direction and kick my rear. No MP to cast; Hi-Ether took too long to use.

Last 3 times have been on Iceday. Every time after getting her down about 1/4 of the way, Garuda would use something (couldn't see with running away) that would crit Carbuncle and kill him super fast and I wouldn't be far enough away to recast, so she would interrupt before I could get Carbuncle back out. Dead. Dead. Dead.

I haven't used any HP potions, as I figured MP was more important--keep Carbuncle out as long as possible. I've been using Yagudo drinks and Hi-Ethers. After about 5 or 6 times of casting Carbuncle, I'll get to a point where he's dead before I've had the chance to get far enough away to recast.

When using Searing Light, do YOU have to be close to the Avatar? Or can you be far away and trigger it as well? The only time I've been able to use it thus far I did it from close range, then Carbuncle vanished after using Searing Light and I was interrupted trying to recast him until I died. I'm also using SMN/BLM for the extra bit of MP over SMN/WHM (280MP with gear; Hume) and all my skills are capped for level 20 (combat and magic).

At this point, I honestly think it would be much easier to get 15-20 more levels on WHM and do the high-level battles with a group rather than these solo battles.

First off, let me say I did this route as well, and kept getting my butt handed to me.

The problem here is you're using *HI* Ethers. They take WAY too long, and quite frankly are a bit overkill if you're using Yagudo drinks. They are hella slow. Ive fount hi-potions arent much better, but honestly they seem okay. Using Hi-Ethers can be fatal during these fights.

I use 3-4 ethers, 1 Yag drink and depending on the battle, a few potions. With rare exception after I stopped using hi-ethers, I havent had any trouble defeating these guys as I go.

Finally, you dont need to do ANYthing that will raise your MP for these battles. The split second you pop even one Searing Light off, ALL your MP will be gone. Doesn't matter if you're subbing WHM/BLM/NIN/whatever. So don't focus on getting more MP, as it's pointless.

Worry about getting your hands on some ethers (much faster than hi-ethers) and yag drinks and you should be just fine.

I used 2 Hi-Potions, 1 Hi-Ether, 3 Yagudo Drinks and a Pumkin Pie +1 ! A stranger Whm helped me out in Rabao with Protect II and Shell II...

I never threw away my fork, but I'm almost positive you can get another.
As for the waiting period after you battle (win or lose, doesn't matter), you have only to wait until it's 24:00 in Japan. You can use your computer clock to tell you when that will be for you. I'm in pacific time, and thus I figured out Japan is 16 hours ahead of me, so a new japan day starts at 8 AM Pacific Time.
And you can go to http://mithrapride.figarocastle.org/vana_time/index.html to find out when the next Lightsday is (I strongly recommend going on Lightsday, more Searing Light damage!)
RE: Question please help
# Aug 31 2004 at 12:52 AM Rating: Decent
24hour real time delay.
And I dunno what happens if you toss your fork. Way too useful an item for me to even try that. ^^;

Beat garuda on iceday when she is weak. This is what i brought: 4 yagudo drink, 1 rolanberry pie, 4 hi ether 4 hi potion. What i did was keep recasting carbie and having it normal melee using yagudo drinks all the time to reduce mp lost 1 mp/sec. When i got low on hp or mp i would use hi ether and hi potion while carbie was fighting. When garuda got down to 1/4hp i used searing light and that finished her off. Use yagudo drink one after another and use rolanberry pie at the beginning for mp +50. Hope this helps.

Make sure you're main job is SMN when you talk to the NPC for the mini-fork.

OK so i have beat most of teh avatars at this point, and i get to rabao and i have enough fame to activate the 65+ battle anbd get the full size fork but when i talk to other one they wont give me the mini fork...is it different fame for the mini fork than the main fork>>?

Not different fame, you have to be a SMN to get the mini-fork. It's a special quest just for SMNers. Same fame to get the regular fork I believe.

The solo fights require 1-2 fame and The party one is lvl 7-8 fame.

There is a way to keep carbuncle going after using Searing Light (yes i have done it) When using Astral Flow Carbuncle does not use ANY mp so if you have Yagudo drink active which refreshes MP at 2mp/3secs you will not run out of mana when you use Searing Light so Carbuncle never goes away . Try it - go to any newbie zone - drink yagudo drink - use astral flow - use searing light on a low mob - WOW carbuncle is still there! May need to attack mob first to make him a battle target (red name - claimed) here is a link to my strategy i used to win ifrit - hope you like it

Im hume SMN and have 302 MP, you need to run up the ramp, summon carby, order to attack, then run back down the ramp to the protocrystal, keep running up and down (when the avatar is far enough from either way) and fight like that. You have to be close to the avatar so its in range of carbys 2hr and yourself. After you run and it hits (or misses) RUN. Also bring a super ether (if you can afford it) or 3 Hi potions. (its what i do and i fare fine =) ) And these cap fights are a test of your skill, and my summoning skill is only 30 or so, and i beat all avatars, its just the matter of how you approach it =)

R U KIDDING!!!

Super Ether!!! cost too much!!!
try some juice!!! it works better than ether!!
try Yagudo drink, or melon juice or pineapple juice

after u went in and ready to fight
cast carby out > attack > juice > 2hr. > Searing Light > RUN to mid way (I think u might still have some MP left cuz the jucie > carby keep attack > then repeate the step the u should be fine... I hope

I use super ethers for full MP so incase searing light misses or is too low dmg, and AF runs out, super ether to get full MP back and let carby melee the rest, but i use juices and muslums mainly.

Unless you are trying to beat the record,i suggest using carbuncle to attack the avatar over and over till the avatars hp is down at least one quarter to one third,THEN use astral flow->searing lights.it will only take 2 of them to finish the avatar.i was using the fast searing light stratagy for the last 2 weeks,i only beat Titan,i was getting beat constantly, the avatars used their 2 hour on me and the chances of Carbuncle missing his 2 hour seemed higher or he didnt hit fo the total 210 damage to the avatar .
Using my stratagy today,i beat Shiva,Ifrit and Ramuh,in a 6 hour period.i cast Carbuncle 4 times before using the 2 hour,he took the avatars HP down enough.
i suggest using a pumpkin pie for extra MP for the Carbuncle fights.remember, you have 15 minutes to complete these solo fights,i suggest you use it.
Good luck.

Same as others Don't know much else I got Pwned but didn't fight her on weak day.....

1st off I can say those who had Summons before Mini quest. I understand if they are upset. I have max fame for every town in preperation for those quest. However these fights are tough and with 2 slight mistakes your dead! And they are very Fun!

2nd I'm happy they have released them so I can have my WHM with Auto Regen and level my sub job with fun of being more useful than WHM backup.

Ok I have beat Titan and Ifrit so far. With 6-8 Hi-Potions *Not all used*; 3 Melon Juices; 2 Ethers; and 1 of the HP drinks for regen. Failed Ramuh 2 time due to mistakes but will work on Him. Others I'm not sure of.

Used Juices @ Start and Hi-Potion when HP below 200.

Go in Cast Carb > Attack > 2 Hour> Searing Light>
Either> Recast Carb> MP Drink> Searing Light>
Either> Recast Carb> Searing Light = Victory!

I am thinking about using Fishkabobs they would probably help a lot! Max MP is worthless Searing light drains all MP. Garuda I faught on a normal day and only got HP 1/2 with 3 landing Searing Lights. Ran out of Hi-Potions about the same time.

Time 4:23 and was record on *Bahamut* for Titan.

On their weak day 3rd Searing light will kill them it seems and Hope I'm right on this.

Repeating Data once again fight on these days!
Day > Weakness > Avatar
Fire > Ice > Shiva
Earth > Lightning > Ramuh
Water > Fire > Ifrit
Wind > Earth > Titan
Ice > Wind > Garuda
Light > Carbuncle is strong can fight any with good chance! I beat Ifrit on Lightsday.

Fire > Ice > Air > Earth > Lightning > Water > Fire
