An item is obtained by trading Chip and Core corresponding to an attribute of equipment. Both chip and core are lost. If Chip besides corresponding element is traded, an Impossible to gauge elemental will appear. Only the chip is lost. Item obtained is random. The password allows you to retain your chip and core. its a one shot use, you have to get a new password after using it. Have fun and good luck figuring out where to get it,

Hmmm... The password doesn't allow you to keep the chip and core. I've tried it twice on 2 diferent places and I lost both cores and chips. I think it improves results because I got 6x Rune arrows (Maze of Shakrami) and 1x Rune axe (Crawler's Nest).
Hmmm, people, the news has been out for a long time. The passwords are generated based on the first 3 letters of your character name; see the post for the JP guys who finally figured it out (ari!!). You currently need 8 passwords, one for each of the active SA's, but once generated, the passwords are fixed. They are "one shot" in that you will generally need to enter the password each time you use a core and chip (not always... I suspect there is a timer involved). Effect of entering a correct password: 1) You get called "doctor", and 2) you don't receive clusters. That's it. Not receiving clusters, of course, increases your chances of a rune axe (chopper, etc.) or arcane flowerpot.... Good luck. And remember to use the right color chip, or you're going to get wiped...

Well, I tryed 6 times today (four times on lightnings day and twice on waters day) in Crawlers Nest and here are the results
Lightnings Day, Waxing Gibbous 88% @ 23:00ish

i did about 50 try for now, mostly in eldieme necropolis cause i had a good feeling that rune blade droped there but also some try resently in wadi

from what i seen with my rewards and those posted here, i would say main weapons aren't droped by peculiar apparatus cause rune chopper was drop in wadi and shakkrami maze.
moon phase and elemental symbols doesn't seem to play a big part in your chance to get a good drop, i got for 2 million on newmoon and full moon and never had a elemental symbol when i traded, what do change drop is trading or not on the day of chips weakness. trade on chip weakness or get 1-4k cluster almost every time, bad for mental health lol
last tip is dont try fei yin, rangemont pass or romperre tomb, the 1rst 2 or completely not working and the 1 in tomb give a S-level overload message and dont work

Ran my *** off trying to get to dangruf before watersday was over, but didnt make it in time. traded stuff at 100% full moon, windsday, got 2 fire clusters and shot myself i the face.

would it be possible to just run a script and brute force the password? it's only a 8bit code.

Ok, after reading all this, I decided to plan ahead.
I realized that a full moon was coming, so I spent approx. 2 hours preparing. First, I bought all the avail infinity cores from AH, 8. Then I determined what the first day that would fall during the full moon. Lightsday. Ok, according to what everyone said, drop rate is better on the day that is strong vs. element of chip, so I bought 4 black chips. Didn't want my eggs all in 1 basket, so saved 4 infinity cores for later use.
Off to the Maze of Shakrami I went. Entrance to the SA room is in the room full of leeches where the Leech King spawns. On Darksday, full moon, 12:00, made my trades. Cermet Chunk x8, 61k on my server, 16k profit. Trade 2 and 3, dark cluster, wtf. Realized something. I had only input the password before the first trade. Password being a random 8 numbers, lol. Entered new password, traded again. Rune Chopper, nice.
Hmmm. I seem to get better results if I input password before every trade. Test time. A quick estimate of travel times and I realize I can make it to another dungeon on earthsday. A quick check of this site and woot! Purple machine in Outer Horutoru Ruins is perfect for my needs.
Head to Windurst, get some purple chip x4, head to Outer Horutoru Ruins, After some frustration, find the Strange Apparatus. It's 23:00 on Firesday. Wait a few minutes, now it's Earthsday. I consider waiting til noon, decide what the hell, input password and begin.
Trade 1, Cermet Chunk x8, trade 2, Cermet Chunk x8, Trade 2, Rune Arrows x6, trade 4 Arcane Flowerpot. I input a new password before every trade. I highly recommend this.
A quick run down. Chips x8, 168k. Infinity Cores x8, 32k. Total expense 200k.
Results. Cermet Chunks x24, 122k. Dark cluster x2 8k. Rune Chopper 150k. Arcane Flowerpot, 70k. Rune Arrows x6, I didn't even price once I realized I need a stack of 12 to sell. Total, 350k + whatever 6 rune arrows are worth.
Yeah, 150k is ok profit. I'm kicking myself over the dark clusters, I think they could have been avoided. I plan to go ahead and try again, next full moon. I'll post results. Trying this quest at random times before resulted in a net loss, so I think moon phase and day of week are key variables. Good luck!

On Darksday, Waxing Moon 26% and with a 4 leaf mandy bud on me I received a Rune Bow from this machine.

First time I tried this it was in watersday in Crawlers Nest. Dunno Moonphase

So far this is my own thoery of how this quest should be done, i am still trying it myself, and it is purely generated out of submits from others posts in Allakhazam.
Best Moon Phase:
Supposedly Full Moon, but i believe the moon phase determines certain inclusion or exclusion of certain trade returns.
TradeDay | Chip | Area | Element
Winds | Earth | Gus Mines | Earth
Ltning | Blue | Crwl Nst | Water
Lights | Black Chip | Maz Shakrami | Dark
and etc...
The General Theory is, Trade on the Day that is Stronger than the element of the Areas unique element. Gusgen Mines is Earth, so you would trade it the Yellow Chip on the Winds day.
So far my results were not bad but i never got the Arcane pot yet, so i believe, unlike Gardening, the elements effects only reduce you chances of a VERY CRAPPY return, and not garranty a Good Return.
Yes therefore this quest is still a Big Gamble for those who try.
But for those who have read my post AND tried this quest please Post here with your results, I would be very greatful to analyse more data than my own:

If you are a registered doctor, emulation settings will be adjusted accordingly. The emulator will now conduct user authorization. Please input your 8 digit password."
if you do not put a "correct" password in it says there was an error and says you are registered as an assistant. I think that maybe you need to become a "Registered doctor" via another quest maybe?? If this seems like it may help anyone figure it out please share.

I have been told this on countless occasions, but I don't know anything about it other than rumors. What I have been told is there is a quest to obtain a password to allow access, but the only problem is that the password changes every in game day. I don't know anyone that has done this, just have heard from friends of friends that have done this, but they won't tell me anything. They just say find out for youself(/cry). Can anyone confirm that theremight be a quest for a password?
I did alot of diggin and discovered people who have the password get VERY annoyed when you ask them for it. (2 pages of scolding and calling me a noob. oh well. hopefully i get some rate ups from what i've found)
Ok first, the password is UNIQUE for every player. 2 People have confirmed this.
2nd, I've been told the password is obtainable thru the high lvl Zilhart missions (like 8, 9, or 10 i forget which, amidst his screaming at me he said "They have a significant part in the story line" and "You'll see when you do them")
Appearantly theres no way to obtain the correct password unless you do the missions, since it is unique for each player. However he didn't say EXACTLY how it is discovered.
Finaly what the coveted password does: It keeps your infinity core from being destroyed with each try. Thats it. No choosing your reward, no saving your chips... Only keeping your infinity core intact every time you use it, hense the name INFINITY core. Meh, I guess its not all bad. Its 3-10k saved per try.
As far as I know this information is reliable. (after posting like 7 different question threads on gamesecrets.com one of the admin. people pm'd me and told me all this, as well to "Shut up about it" The same admin person posts 90% of the guides on the FFXI forum and also banned me shortly after.)
Geez some high lvls are so moody its rediculous. I assume thats the same reason nobody has discovered the serious money making gardening recipies yet. The people who use them don't want EVERYBODY using them. =P
Remember, the squeeky wheel gets the grease... Or gets banned from a site their paying for -_-... Either way, I hope my $24.95 banned subscription helps you out in some way. Long live Allakhazam! ~Aet

Well ZM 8,9, or 10 dont make sense and at first i didnt think any zm really had any clue to these passwords..... but then i got thinking. Maybe after ZM 6 when you are put in to the room after killing the 3 antica bcnm, there are clues in the room with all the elemental machines.

Please tell me How to activate this Quest, who's the NPC (besides that he is at Windurst Woods) and how much fame do I need?
Although my fame is low now i need to how much fame to get to activate this quest.
I don't know why people never posted how they got this quest, but i appreciate them posting thier results online.
Im in Hades and my character is Aldante, i think i know the proper way to do this quest but all i need is to ACTIVATE it, and try it out, if the results is wht i planned then i will post my method of doing it. Im a gardener so im very clear of the elemental effects hidden or not.
So please help me guys and tell me how to activite this quest thank you (TT)

well i tested out dangruff wadi last night on fire day with 9 red chips and 9 infinity cores.
results....
1. 8 cermet chunks ---> 5k each
2. fire cluster ----> not worth the 21k chip
3. fire cluster ----> not worth the 21k chip

5. adaman nuggets ---> 31k each <bastok AH>
6. 8 cermet chunks ---> 5k each

so in the long run it cost me 229.5k for chips and cores...

I decided to give this a shot as I want the Rune Blade for a few lvls from now (Should be nice with RDM). Right now it is costing me 23k-26k per chance (21k chip -- 2k-5k core) ...
Crawlers Nest:
1) 8x Cermet Chunks (AH 50k/stack)
2) 6x Rune Arrows (NPC 1.2k/each)
3) 2x Adaman Nuggets (AH 20k/each)
4) 8x Cermet Chunks (AH 50k/stack)

I'm really insterested on what day you did this, the day thats strong to water or just some random day?

Is it confirmed which aparatus drops which weapon. Or can someone get their particular weapon...i.e; HTH for mnk...out of any of them. Also i would like to suggest inquiry into that maybe the reason that some ppl say it gives "refresh" and some negative is that certain aparatus's are designed for certain weapons so doing the wrong one might give a negative effect weapon...just a thought i haven't even tried it.

Hmmmm I think i would like to try this. If i bought 500k worth of Chips and Cores would i get my money back? It sounds like i would get much more than 500k back.
Went to ordelles on windsday, traded 1 and got wind cluster... waited for windsday to be over, got 8x Cerment chunks. My level was Assistant with the password thing, but it did say something about a doctor, for those who have done it should recognize it saying something about a doctor.
EDIT: Went back to ordelles with 5 chips and 5 cores:
1- Wind Cluster...
2- 8x Cermet Chunks :\
3- 2x Adaman ores :\
4- Rune Bow :\ ( 50 K )
5- Wind Cluster....
All together 29K profit
Was on lightningday. I wish i didnt have a gambling problem though... Im on my way to Crawlers nest now..

Well, I just did this today. Went to Dangruf Wadi on Firesday, 38% moon. Traded two red chips and cores, got a fire cluster and 6 Rune Arrows. Not worth the cost, but that's a risk of playing the lottery.
Me and a LS buddy just did this in Crawlers nest. my friend brought 4 chips and cores. it was lightnings day, full moon, around 06:00.
here was his results:
First Trade - Rune Axe -_-
Second Trade - 2 Adaman Nuggets -_-
Third Trade - 8 Cerment Chunks -_-
Forth Trade - Water Crystal (finally got somethin crappy :P)
So yeah, he made 690k in about 30 seconds.... lucky *******...
