So after 3 attempts @ eldieme for like 3 hours each and with only 1 drop which I didn't get b/c of low lot ><
I decided to quit paladin56 and go for leveling nin and war, but... paladin is great so i tried after a month once more.. with mnk72, mnk63, whm70 and me. Figured that a small party would have a better droprate... guess not.. i'v partied for over 3hours and still didn't get key.
Then mij buddy Dpgc said he would come as whm/thf for TH and helped me out. And on the 2nd fight he was in, the key dropped!
Finally I got my believed/hated key. So for almost 4 hours fighting (with chains up to 5) we got 1 key.
Never the less I got it.. and I wish you all luck!

SummaryGauntlets wrought by Borghertz, the legendary craftsman, lie hidden somewhere in Vana'diel. WalkthroughNote: You must have completed the quest Sharpening the Sword - PLD AF1 and activated A Boy's Dream - PLD AF2 before you can get this quest. To start this quest, head to the armor shop in Upper Jeuno and speak with Guslam the galka. He tells you about a pair of old gauntlets, crafted by the legendary Borghertz, that might have been seen in the Eldieme Necropolis. Head to Eldieme Necropolis and get an Eldieme Coffer Key. The keys are dropped by Haunts, Spriggan BLMs, Spriggan RNGs, Spriggan THFs, Spriggan WARs, Tomb Mages and Tomb Warriors. Next, find a treasure coffer. Coffers spawn in the main, ground-floor chambers at G-6, G-7, F-8 and E-8. If you drop down from the main ground floor at G-8, you can access coffer spawn points at M-11 and M-10. On that same map, coffers also spawn at L-12 and L-9. A coffer can also appear on that map at E-6, which is accessible from a part of Batallia Downs only reachable through Beaucedine Glacier. Trade your key to the coffer to receive the key item Some Old Gauntlets. You do not need to be a paladin when you open this coffer. Go back to talk to Guslam. He will say the gauntlets are work of Borghertz, but he cannot repair them. You then have to go speak to Yin Pocanakhu in the Tenshodo shop in Lower Jeuno. She talks about a toolbox that won't open. Pay her 1000 gil, and she tells you the toolbox is on a crate outside of the Duty-Free shop in Port Jeuno. Find the toolbox and examine the ??? for a cutscene, in which the spirit of Borghertz appears and asks for Shadow Flames from Castle Zvahl Baileys. Go to Castle Zvahl Baileys and examine the torch at (F-8). A notorious monster bomb by name of Dark Spark will appear. Kill Dark Spark and examine the torch a second time to get the Shadow Flames. I was pretty lucky to had already gotten this key when i was doin Genkai 1 (limit break quest for papyrus). I finally decided to go coffer hunting >.< this is the worst part.... Whenever i went there were already many people there and no coffer even spawned.... I finally decided to be sneaky ^^ (this is the mean part) I ran to a certain area and shouted that i got the coffer....luckliy the people believe me and left...when they did i found a coffer spawn, pick the lock, and got the coffer =P Dark Spark died pretty fast too =P No comment for him.
Went to hunt for the coffer with 4 other people, only me and 1 other needed the key. PT setup was 75DRG/37WHM 75DRK/37THF 59DRK/29WAR 54PLD/27WAR (me) and a 52PLD. Anyway, got first key in about 10 minutes, let the other pld have it. He stayed as we continued to slay tomb mages/warriors, got the other key about 15 minutes later. anyway, we all warp back and i'm still WIDE awake so I decide to go back and hunt for my coffer as my 49THF, which I don't care if he dies so its win/win with the Flee. anyway, I look around for about 10 mins, get the the hume bones area with the help of some old friend that happened to be there, looked east side, wasnt there. looked WEST, there it was. after 10 minutes I got my coffer chest. that's the fastest i've gotten a coffer chest in all my jobs, lol. good luck to everyone else.

like all other AF's the hardest part is getting a party together.
I had an alliance of 9 people ranging from level 52 to 75. The drop rate was kind of terrible took about 3 hours to get roughly 4 keys. We needed 5. With the alliance i had we were able to bring down 2 to 3 different mobs at the same time barely having to rest. A couple of low level people died due to aggro so be careful where u camp.
The best place to camp for Coffer Chest is in the room where u can see the Hume Bones. In this room No monsters will come close to u, and it is where 2 coffer chests pop. in both dead-ended rooms you can enter. they coffer pops right up the back towards the middle of the back wall so u can see if it pops without having to go inside and causing an aggro.
I waited patiently for about 45 minutes before coffer poped and i took it and ran like hell to the closest zone. Be sure to sneak up before u open the coffer coz if you get aggro while opening the chest you may get interrupted, and then die.

When i started this quest i was a lvl54 pld after 3 deaths am now about 2k tnl. After a hour or so of shouting i got a skill up pty to help me out took about 3 hrs but finally got key drop. Its been 5 rl days of searching and still havent seen coffer... gone though a good 10 stacks of oil 3 rdm friends help and still havent found a thing. Then a friend sugested we try the Glacier entrace to eldieme so me and a friend did. we camped it for a good hour when a lil taru named flk poped and turned on the tallow candle and logged. we thought nothing of it until a huge axe weilding skeleton poped and killed us both. sigh.. i could just cry

Okay after spending hours of shouting, i finally got people to help me. Party ended up consisting of a 75 pld, 71 pld, 67 brd, 69 whm, 58 thf, and pld 55 (me). We got there and camped near the bones. In our surprise coffer was directly behind us. we began killing for key and no luck for quite a few battles. 75 pld left, then 71 pld said he knows a better camp, so we followed him. Got to camp pulled the first skeleton and got key the first time ^^. So we all went out pld told me other party rdm had gotten the coffer previously and said he was probably lying and told me to go and check it out. Well my bestfriend Syden (67 blm ^^) was done with other stuff came and help me out to get coffer, went back to the original camp and coffer was still there :D, so i opened coffer got aggroed, had to use 2hr, blm warped me out than himself. Woot everything went smooth no deaths and now alls i need to do is fight Dark Spark ^^. Thank all very much for helping me out, i really appreciated it

Earlier today, a 75 PLD, 60 BLM and myself (53 PLD) went into Eldieme looking for 2 keys. After our first kill, someone pointed out the coffer, so we get pretty anxious. The next kill, we get a key, BLM gets it, and pops his coffer. Lucky SOB. The NEXT kill, I get my key. That's right, 3 fights, 2 keys, right in a row. The only TH we had was my THF sub. An earth ele aggros so we have to escape.
So later on in the day I go check the coffer spawn point in the Glacier section. After waiting for a few hours, it spawns! Right as I get back to Jeuno some people in my LS are on their way to kill DS with high lvl help. Long story short, by the time I got to the torch, I see DS's body limp on the floor and get my Shadow Flames.
I'm sorry for those of you who had trouble with this quest, but maybe those of you who have yet to attempt it can read this and feel more optimistic. Best of luck to all of you!

Haha, you horrible, horrible person! I spent a week on this, died 5 or 6 times, spent over 40k on sneak oils, 3k+ CP for insta-warps, and cried myself to sleep every night. Although good for you, I'm glad someone had fun with this. ^^

i have been in 12, yes 12, key partys. only have seen 5 keys drop. it looks like i mite have to pay some high lvl person to get the key for me, normaly they charge 100k, "damn't"

ok, not sure if I had bad luck or what, but to make a long story short I spent 11+ hours getting the coffer key. Trust me on this, you need a thief with TH2. When I was finally able to party with one we got 3 key drops within 2 hours. Without TH2 prepare to wait A LONG TIME. I also died 3 times and deleveled. Now I still have to find the coffer...

Had an excellent experience tonight getting this coffer key. 3 people for my LinkShell needed this, so we set out expecting to be there for the entire evening camping mobs. I don't know if SE changed someting in the update or we were just really lucky, but we got the 3 key drops in about 20 minutes. Just my first experience with the coffer hunt, but looking forward to the next ones :)
JUST A WARNING TO PEOPLE
completing AF2 does not make you able to pop the other coffers automatically for the key items
YOU MUST TALK TO GULSAM at least once its seems, then you can pop AF3,4,5,6 without speaking to him
I wasted my coffer key last night thru this scenario... I hope others can avoid that mistake

I got the coffer key drop within 10 mins. of fighting...lol. I was expecting to be in there for hours. Now I just need to find the treasure coffer. ; ;

omg, 10 min. it took me about 3 pts, 2-4hrs eatch and finnaly i got it, after being killed 3 times. still looking for the coffer, hopefully i will find it in the morning.

GRRR. Stupid SE... I had a pt of 1 lvl 73 pld, 1 70 rdm, a high lvl smn, not sure the lvl, myself, 52 pld, and a 53 rdm, but we all died even with best armor. this may well be my last post. the game near unplayable after lvl 49. can't make gil to hire people cause of cheaters and gilsellers, and my LS mates are busy too. and even if they did, they would probably die.

Had one bad run on Dark Spark, Dub came with me along with a 63WHM friend of his. Allow me to say that 60+ noobs DO in fact exist as his WHM friend didn't heal him at all till he was less than 300hp and I was already healing him has my PLD >.>, he died, then the WHM finally did her job and started healing me, good enough to keep me alive for 3 mins but were not strong enough to win. I died...WHM escapes herself only -.-. Came back in, saw another pt fighting it, we allianced and easily beat it, got a warp 2 back to Jeuno, all was well.
I can tell u exactly why u didnt get ur gauntlets...u opened the CN coffer...u need to go to Eldieme Necropolis and open the coffer there to get your old guantlets not CN

After just having a good experience with my AF boots (which you all should read if you really care about my awesome weekend with AFs plus this post won't make much sense if you don't XD), I decided to push my luck with my luck with the Eldieme Necropolis coffer key. The 75 SAM i was with was in but he wanted a healer of sorts in case of an extreme emergency. I briefy remembered a guy by the name of dailaren shouting help for the EN coffer key. I send him a /t and he still needs help, he was a 53PLD, he had found a 59BLM/WHM, then me at 50PLD and the 75SAM head over to the Necropolis.
We camp in the Hume bones room, within an 45 mins we got one key, I lotted higher but sure in hell wasn't about the leave the guy so we kept camping. The BLM had to go so it was just me the PLD and the SAM, in between battles, I kept checking the rooms north and south of the hume bones room for coffers. Unfortunately, my overanxiety made me overlook the fact that I was in yellow HP so even with my WHM sub and sneak on, two dark stalkers aggroed me. The SAM almost pulled them off of me but I remembered that they were EP to him at 75 and I had two, so I told him and the other PLD to let me die for being stupid (no need to risk them right?).
I go down, and there was an AF WHM nearby so I asked for a raise 2. WHM said sure and as I was dead we got the other coffer key ^^ so i got raise 2'd, passed the key, then the other PLD says he hadn't activated the quest so any coffers were mine. I wanted to keep camping the 2 spots near the Hume Bones room, so I told the PLD and SAM that they didn't have to waste their time sitting around with me so they left. Spent a good hour camping those 2 spots and started to think that my glorious weekend luck had finally run out. I felt I was wasting time down in that hellhole and checking the other pop points may be in order.
I run out, check the other zone only to realize that I have to go through the southernmost entrance and then drop down through holes just to access the other pop points -.- . So I do a few runs through, I check the 4 pop points up top (they are in the rooms with 9 holes in the floor and buttloads of utuuku and Ka around and they are in the Northernmost room like that and the Westernmost room like that) and start dropping, looking, and exiting back to Bataillia to do it all again. When I get down the point where there was only one pop point left to check (excluding the one that pops in the entrance from Beaucidine Glacier and I really didn't feel up to checking that) and it was accessible by dropping through one of the nine holes in the Southernmost room. I wanted to check the 4 pop points up top one last time before i dropped and then gave up. Unfortunately, Odin's and Titan's gates were locked, so I couldn't get to the northern room and shouting for help didnt help (only 8 other people there and i know that 6 of them were in a pt in the Hume Bones room). So I ran to the west room, checked the 2 pops there, nothing (or so I thought), head back to check Odin's gate hoping it would be open...it wasn't. So I head back through the West room on my way to the South room, and something catches my eye in the corner of the room...it was the coffer!! Turns out Speakeasy/mysterytour's map was wrong a little, they said the coffer was along the middle of the wall but it was in the corner of room o_O, oh well, an honest mistake and not a big one.
I get my "Old Gauntlets" Go back to Jeuno, activate the Dark Spark part of the quest, I'm on my way to Sandy to finish my boots and I get a pt invite (I'm not seeking and I have a gimped WHM sub...don't ask me how this happened). So I gained 2k exp in that party so I made back the 2 deaths I had acquired getting 3 AFs this weekend and got a little more. 5.9k/7.8k til cap (haven't even done G1 yet XD). After many attempts at this, I decided to just get a strong party and not take anyone with me who needed the key. Worked like a charm. I got a 75MNK, 75RDM, 73PLD, 73WHM, 68PLD, and a 56THF for TH2. We mauled the place, and got the key on the 3rd mob. Since I was the only one who needed it, I got it and we all went home. Now, if I had brought another person in need, the second key could have taken all night to get. Now for the coffer itself..

Being a dragoon as my main for the most part, I activated the glove quest for it, so my question is, as a pld at 54, having done af1 and af2, can i still get the quest or do i have to finish off the dragoon glove one?
