Summary

Zeid's letter to Cid reports him finding one of the weapons forged by Gerwitz, the legendary darksteel smith... but it has taken the form of an evil weapon. You must meet Zeid and help him with his task.

Walkthrough

Note: You must have finished Dark Legacy - DRK AF1 to start this quest.

Talk to Cid at H-8 on the upper level of Bastok Metalworks. Cid mentions the Darksteel Formula you found from doing Dark Knight AF1. Raibaht then comes in and says that Zeid sent a letter to Cid. Zeid's letter to Cid reports him finding one of the weapons forged by Gerwitz, the legendary darksteel smith...but it has taken the form of an evil weapon. You must meet Zeid and help him with his task.

Before going any further, buy a Darksteel Ingot from the auction house.

Note: All Dark Knights in your party can do the quest at once, so if you have 5 that need to do it, they can all pitch in and get one Darksteel Ingot.

Go to Ordelle's Caves. As soon as you zone in, you'll get a cutscene where Zeid tells you that a merchant who had been in the caves was attacked by Gerwitz's Axe. At the time he was carrying a Darksteel Ingot for synthing and you should check it out.

On the first map (the one you are currently on) go to H-12 and fall down the hole. This will put you on a ledge at H-12 on the third map. You should be right next to a ??? in the corner where you fell. Buff up and get ready.

When you're ready, trade the Darksteel Ingot to the ??? and Gerwitz's Axe will spawn. It is around level 50, but not too hard. He uses Mighty Strikes. He will then drop the item, Gerwitz's Axe. Have whoever used the Darksteel Ingot lot on it and get it into his inventory.

After this, go east and you will find a passage way leading up onto the second map of Ordelle's Caves. Make your way down to H-8 and you'll find another ???. When the party is ready, trade Gerwitz's Axe to the ??? and it will spawn Gerwitz's Sword. This will cause the item Gerwitz's Sword to drop.

The final ??? is in H-10 on the same map in the small square room at the south end of the map. When you're buffed and everyone has 300% TP, trade Gerwitz's Sword to the ???. This will spawn Gerwitz's Soul, a Ghost NM around level 54.

Congratulations! You're done! All you have to do is take the exit to La Theine Plateau from the same map at G-10 and you'll get a cutscene between Gerwitz, yourself, and Zeid. When the scene is over with you'll receive your Chaos Sollerets.

Yay! I got it!

I have been stuck on lvl 52 for ages since I was lazy to be a pt ldr and gather people and buy making money for maps that I haven't got for mining and Mission 5-2.

Yesterday one of my ls friend suggested to do it since he also wanted to do his PLD AF1 at Ordelle Cave so I started shouting in Jueno for high lvlers help.

After a while I got a few very nice people willing to assist me but they were all DD and I was a bit worried since a lot of posts warned us how difficult the last NM was without proper tank and mage but we went a head anyway. Quote from one of the pt member: "It'll be /fun and /excitement since the hate will be flying everywhere".

The party setup was as follows:

DRK75/WAR37
DRK74/WAR37
DRG68/WHM34
DRG62/WAR31
PLD56/WAR28
DRK52/THF26 (me)

and quite right it was fun. We did the PLD AF1 first by killing the earth elemental thing within 15 sececond after building enough TP, then it was my turn.

Killed the first NM in 30 seconds and 20 seconds for the following one, then 30 seconds again for the last one. Of course in between we all build up enough TP for WS and occasionally we even had a few SC while killing them.

Since there weren't a major tank and no one really voked so first NM was a bit confused who to attack since everyone were dealing a lot of damage but before it can really hurt someone it died.

The last one did curse and some other spells but since we were melee and no one really gave a damn about it.

With the two drgs' Wyvern, we had 8 DDs, so who says you need tank and mage to do this? LOL

Especial thanks to Stalker, Canabi, Exsonious (not sure if I got this one right), Zyrus and the other DRG I forgot his name (sorry, mate but cheers for the help!)

and damn, I look nice in those boots

no melee can solo the axe...you will die no matter what level....you need a nin or high level pld to tank this and a healer....

doing it with a nin (me) 62 thf 73 and whm 63

the rest is easy after axe if you are 60+ or have 60+ help

Just fought the first weapon as a 75NIN.. the accuracy of this mob was insane, infact I don't think it missed a shadow once. Also, it hit me for 150-200dmg a shot. Very very nasty -_-.
Just a thought

Yeah you could. Me, RDM64, and a friend, DRK60, just duoed these 3. First on was a little hard, but we both made it through with only a little difficulty. The second weapon was a pushover, I don't know if it even got through stoneskin. The third one though was where we ran into problems. Darknight didn't have his 2 hour up (being as how he used it on the first mob), and this thing ate through stoneskins after 3 or 4 hits. Darknight ended up dieing twice (reraise hairpin) and i was almost dead. He ended up using guillatine on it after reraise to bring it to 1% HP, which gave him hate and he died the second time lol, but it allowed us to kill it. So it can be done, but it isn't easy.
Here is some help.

I'll tell you this as a DRK AF newbie, it was very worrysome.

In my party:

Zeix, 50 DRK (Me)
Boomer, 60+ PLD
Mingatsu, 62 BST
Redman, 60 BLM

We totally aced the Axe and Sword, but the Soul, the ghost-type NM, is TOTALLY EVIL. It managed to kill our Paladin, Boomer, right as we landed the finishing blow on it. It casts Sleepga, Curse, Bio II, and a bunch of other horrible spells on your party.

Do NOT go into this battle without a WHM or RDM. If you do, someone, if not everyone, will die.

And for the record, there is NO WAY this enemy is a level 54 monster. If it can kill a level 60+ Paladin, it must be in the 60s.

Lastly, after you get the weapons from the corresponding NMs, equip them to be safe. I almost tossed it while trying to toss a Treant Bulb from my inventory.

If you need any HL help and are in Gilgamesh server, send me a /tell, I have lots of friends.
Easy

I was too lazy to shout for help in Jeuno, so I just picked 3 LS members to help out. Pt was 50 DRK(me), 55 SAM, 63 DRK and 58 WHM. We get TP to 100% with the mobs around, buff up with protect, shell, and aerial armor (whm was /smn). Spawn first NM, DRK vokes, a few WS's gets it to do Mighty Strikes, DRK's hp droped to yellow a few times, but WHM's great healing kept him in one piece and didnt get hate. First one dead. We buff up the same way before the second. But he didnt do anything, so in less than 20 seconds, after a nice SC, he's dead. Same buff process for third, only this time WHM stood further away to avoid Sleepga. We spawn it, and after 1 or 2 minutes we killed it. Has alot of HP, but doesnt hit too hard, nothn to worry about. Not sure the ghost is 50-ish, since I got 7 exp.

In the end, all it took was 4 people.

Hope this helps ^^

sorry for the double post
Me and a couple friends went out after these things our pt setup was 50 drk 55 pld 58 pld 60 drg 55 blm these things aren't a joke the first two go down pretty easy but the ghost came out blasting and hit me w/ a tornado right off the bat resisted everything we threw at him and most of the pt ended up sleeping through half the battle because of sleepga2. from this experience i conclude you need a tank and some kind of healer but then again some weird stuff works, just dont take em lightly and dont take em too seriously

Yes, you CAN do this quest w/out being drk. I did it as my 64 sam. For most forced spawned af mobs, you can do as another job. Did af1 for drk and war as sam too. Though this doesnt apply for coffer...of course...

Guys, I see you have to trade a darksteel ingot to get the mob to spawn. My question is this: Can this be spawned by any person, at any time, so long as they have the ingot? Or can this only be spawned by a dark knight who has activated the quest?

As long as they have the quest active and flagged up to this point, yes. You can do the quest as another job, but you cannot spawn the NMs if you do not have the quest flagged.

Is it required to be on your Dark Knight to complete this quest? Someone I know was wondering if he could solo it on his 70 RDM.

OK this is probibly a very ignorant question, but I have a lvl 60 whm and a lvl 51 drk. I have yet to finish whm's last bit of af (af hands) and want to do my drk's af, is there any way to accept drk's with whm still open...?

now i went back to ordell's caves. i went to the point, traded the ingot, and nothing happened. Now i did complete this quest before. But liek i said when i zoned i didn't recive my boots because of invo being full. So I tried to talk to cid again. He told me to get lost. So i figuered ok i just need to repete this quest and just zone again. Needless to say. when i got back to the caves, i got shafted again. Now it says quest is repeateable. how can it be if i tried to do it and it's no where to be found in my invo, safe, anywhere? If u have an answer for this please let me know. this is starting to really get to me. I kjnow i can't do rest of Af until i complete this one. So any info would be extreamly helpful thank you.
make sure of this

actually no you didnt have to redo this quest, if you had bothered to read my post below, you would have seen that very thing happened to another drk that was in my PT for this quest, all he had to do was make some space and rezone through the same exit that he had left to get the boots in the first place....he got his boots without doing the whole thing again

just did this last night with some LS buddies, and then a few other drks sent me a tel just as we left saying they needed it, this was party setup:

50 drk (me)
50 drk
50 drk
66 war
55 whm
60 whm
59 nin

obviously this is a little overkill, it looks like most you had no problem with just 5 ppl...so 7 was a little much but oh well lol

we all buffed our TP before each fight

ok first NM was easy, had a lot of HP but was still easy nonetheless

2nd NM was a complete pushover, we spawned him and within seconds he was on the ground....i was a bit surprised

3rd NM was a little tougher than the first NM but not by much, we took him with ease

the only hang up we had was the ppl that didnt have maps of ordelles kept gettin lost, but it wasnt a big deal really...and 1 of the drks that was with us had a full inv when he zoned to get his boots...he didnt get them, his LS said that he could get them by just rezoning the zone that he came out of.....but that wasnt til after he had gotten lost in ordelles...again (he had no map) after about an hour of trying to get hiom back to the right zone he finally got his boots
Helped LS member get this

Um, it says at the bottom of the guide that this quest is repeatable, is that true? Are all the AF quests repeatable? Because I never thought so...

If you accidentally drop the Chaos Sollerets you could repeat this Quest to obtain them again.
As long as they are in your Inventory/MH you can't do it again. ('cause it's rare/ex)
