Mission Orders

The papsque has requested an adventurer of renown. Speak to His Holiness in the cathedral. His chambers lie upstairs.

Walkthrough

Proceed to the top level of the Cathedral in Northern San d'Oria and talk to the Papsque. You must go up two flights of stairs to get to it--the door is on the balcony of the cathedral.

Once you have received the cutscene with the Papsque, head to Bostaunieux Oubliette, the dungeon beneath Chateau d'Oraguille.
Take your first right, heading until you reach a dead-end with a NPC and a trap door on the floor.
Cast Sneak or use Silent Oils, then talk to the NPC to pass through the trap door down in to the second level.
You will find two slimes waiting for you.

Once you have dropped down, simply follow the right wall, heading right at every opportunity, until you eventually zone in to West Ronfaure.
You will end up on a rather small ledge--be sure not to fall down.
There is a ??? at the edge. Touch the ??? to spawn Marauder Dvogzog, a NM Orc.
This is a monk-type orc that will use Hundred Fists.
When the orc uses Hundred Fists, it is best to have a Paladin use Invincible.
12 LV 61 players should have no trouble what-so-ever with this battle.
Once the orc is dead, examine the ??? again to receive a key item -- an Ancient San d'Orian Tablet.

Return to the Papsque to receive a cutscene, then head to the gate guard, then finish the mission by receiving a cutscene at the garden in the Chateau.

I had heard stories about this thing back in the day, before I had a subjob. Some fool was shouting his head off in sandy to come help kill this thing. My buddies had said they died to it, but me, being a level 16 rdm, thought I was hot ****.

I exited the S Sandy gate to a lot of corpses and maybe 20 or so people around my level and some lower fighting it til it's AoE went off and they all dropped. Some "high levels" (At the time I considered anything 30+ high lv) came to fight it, and were quickly dispatched, along with myself as I, being the hotship rdm badass I was, thought I could hurt it.

I think I hit it once for 1 damage before AoE killed us all. It eventually went away and raises came out. That was a little over a year ago, haven't heard of it since, except from people in my lses that have said "Some NM is slaughtering ronfaure! Piles of newbs!" Haven't heard anything for a while.
Recommended level my ass

70 thf/nin Spikido (me) tank
70 rdm/blm Demonessevile
63 mnk/nin Valter

^^

Not one person died. Most fun I've had in a fight in a long time. Hundred fists? lol *whif* *whif* *whif* evasion FTW!

Bloody bolts, a few potions, some WS action, and some serious teamwork made this job/lvl combination possible to defeat him.

I don't recommend fighting him with this combo unless you know what you are doing.

*Edit*
BTW this fight took a total of 4:23

71RNG Tbags
71RDM Me ^^
??SAM Strikerx, sorry forgot your level
60RDM Ryusei
71BLM Kobold

Sam tanked him straight up, RDM's healed and enfeebled, BLM went trigger happy and RNG made porcupine out of Orc. When he 100 fisted RNG shadowbound him but we kinda forgot to walk away ^^ It did'nt do much damage anyway. Killed Orc, got Tablet and now I need 7-2 done.
I think a few people 2houred but that was more for fun then out of need.

Don't worry about it.^^

This is like the 8th time I've completed this damn quest. The hardest part really seems to be getting people through the Oubliette. Otherwise, the tank will nearly always say that this "tough" fight is a letdown.

Come prepared. Make sure you've got a good tank and great DD, and you're set.

Just did it again second ago. Party breakdown:

74pld
62thf
66whm
74drg
72rng
66drg
64rdm

Total overkill. I barely did more than cast hastes/regens. No 2hrs.

According to parser, the orc had 10660hp. The fight took 5:38 minutes. As a 66whm, I ended up getting 9 exp and 19 gil (Woot! I'm rich!).

This was the largest party I've done it with. The smallest one I did it with was a 74thf and a 74pld.

Hope this helps.

Sandy massacre

Apparently this happens a lot on different servers...a while ago I was jogging back to Sandy from the dunes on my (at the time) 55 War. What do I see when I reach the gates? Bodies. Bodies everywhere. Low levels as far as the eye can see. 'What the F#CK is going on?' I yell...I soon find out. Thf and Rdm are duo'ing it, and a few lower levels are trying to throw in some hits. Some fool 30-something tries to join in the fight, and is quickly crushed flat by one AoE. The AoE it's self doesn't do all that much dmg to me at 55, but it didn't feel good, either. I stand there and watch the fight, and take the occasional AoE, having around 1000 HP, a hundred something AoE isn't a huge whoop.

So, then they kill it. The same *** who spawned it...brings it again. More people dead. A bunch of us take off through the woods to chase it down and take part in the fight. when it gets to sandy gates and is hitting a 40-something who is running for it, I provoke and swipe it a few times. Hits me about 8 times for around 100 per hit, and I zone with about 300 HP left, give or take. I heal, go back out, and watch the chaos continue. A GM is called, and it's despawned. Fun fun.
3 ppl dead

Can others do it or help the fight if they are rank 7+? What I'm asking is if I bring a rank 10 with me will he be able to engage.

of course you can. I just finished this quest with a few ls members along with a pt of ppl who needed this mission done too. The mob itself was easy to kill, but be careful when you're in Bostauniaux Oubliette! remember to keep your sneak up because some mobs in there can still aggro you even if you're lvl 75!

Just completed this fight for a LS member.

73 Thf (me)
75 Pld
66 Thf

I evasion tanked it and the Pld healed me if I needed it. No real problems at all and we beat it easily. When the NM used Hundred Fists I just used Perfect Dodge.

Something everyone should know. Make SURE to examine the ??? after you kill the Orc NM outside Bostaunieux Obliette. If you don't, and come back to do it, you just spawn the NM again.

69NIN/WAR 62PLD/WAR 75BLM/WHM

Failed the battle, which was taking days because obviously this isn't the best set up in the world. Could have pulled it off with a RDM or WHM to act as healer so BLM could nuke. All in all, I'd say a full exp setup PT of 65s could probably handle this mob. I don't recommend a NIN tank unless they're 73+ because the NM type is a MNK. I'm not the best NIN in the world, but evasion capped and have two items that raise it 10 above level cap. It was still killing my shadows like there was nothing to it. If you want to make this easy, go as a PT of 70's.

I recall the devastation this guy caused when someone zoned him to the south sandy gates. Hot damn there was pure chaos at the zone. I was on my way to Jeuno and on choco. I nearly choked on the drink that I was having when I saw the corpses all clustered around near the zone.

There must have been at least 15 dead bodies scattered all around this guy. He checked as Impossible to Gauge.

And to top it all off there were even more low level people fighting him. I'm talking about people in the mid 20's and below.

So I decided that this should be interesting. At first I thought it was a garrison NM and things went bad for that alliance.

Then he did his AoE orc dance.....have you ever been killed while on choco? Or witnessed the sight of 13 lines of "xxxxxx was defeated by Marauder Dvogzog"? lol

Well........my first thought was "wtf" Followed shortly by a "something isn't right" followed by yet a third thought "Who the hell is this guy and why haven't I seen him before"

After getting a raise for a Whm in full AF, I was further bewildered at the sight of a Full AF Drk, and a Full AF Drg take this guy on. The thing that bewildered me, was the fact that they were getting their asses severely kicked. Both had to zone in a little over a minute or two. I'm not sure exactly how long before they zoned, but I was still weakened before they bailed.

And after weakness wore off I figured I'd help out with the raising. Dear god.....that guy probably had a kill record that day... lol Sorry to say this folks, but watching about 10 or more people drop from this guys AoE is priceless.

I recall someone in starting gear, with a question mark over his head, calmly walk out, maybe for the first time in his life, level 1 subless warrior.......Boom! Out of nowhere the Orc whipped out his Battle Dance....that poor fella......

Thank god the Drg and Drk who were fighting it earlier called in some reinforcements. 4 rangers teamed are devastating. The AF white mage did the main curing.....I pulled suicidal noob and tossed in some cure 3's whenever I could.

All in all, an interesting experience

We just did this last night and wanted to throw something in. We did it with 4 BST, 2x 66, 1x 65 and a 55. We dragged that thing all through Ronafure and eventually killed it. The BST that needed it had to drop from the ledge, so he ran all the way back to ???.....and respawned the dude. To save his butt, I engaged it with my pet and took off to zone, thinking it would disappear. So I zone, come back out, hit widescan and it is gone. We are discussing what to do now when all of a sudden I see people running from the NM to the zone. He does not disappear, he goes back to the ???. So here are all these level 20ish trying to take this thing, I am trying to claim it to kite it to East Ronafure zone but he is taking people out left and right. I finally get claim on it, kite it with carrie to zone, come back in and "escort" it till it disappears (about 30 minutes).

So in short:
1) watch time to click ???, if you drop from cliff, the person that needs it needs to get to cliff again before fight is over
2) if you zone, zone back to Bostenieux or you will have a littering of bodies all around you.
3) he will eventually disappear if no one claims him

Now we gotta go back and do it again....

I went on vacation last month and when I came back, one of the PLD's (lvl 50-something) in my LS had talked about getting killed by some NM orc in Ronfaure. He eventually came up with that name, Marauder whatever. :) I thought it was some glitch coz around that time other weird things were happening.

This was a bit confusing... after you trade in the tablet to the Papsque, the mission is *technically* complete... however before you can get 7-2 you must trade crystals to the R.K. guy until you have almost full rank, *THEN* the gate guard will tell you to go to the garden where you get a cutscene, *then* you can go *back* to the gate guard and get 7-2. That whole process is done while you are in a limbo with "No Current Mission".

If the gate guard only comes up with a list of missions after turning in the tablet, you need to trade more crystals, he *must* tell you to go to the garden first.

12 people 55-70. Only problem was the PLD didn't listen when I told him he needed to Invinciable when 100 Fists was used by the Orc and 3 people including himself died.

One small note: Once you get the cutscene back at the Cathedral the mission is complete, no need to go to the garden, etc.
