Mission Orders

At the request of the Optistery, you are to find former minister Karaha-Baruha's laboratory in Toraimarai Canal, and delve deeper into the mystery of the Book of the Gods.

Walkthrough

The gate guard will tell you that you have a new mission that involves cleaning up a book vault. He mentions that the mission comes from Tosuka-Porika in the Opistery.

Head to the Opistery in Windurst Waters and speak to Tosuka-Porika for this information and a cutscene, where he explains that there is a hidden room inside the Toraimarai Canal. He needs you to go there and meddle about for him. He will give you a key item called the Optistery Ring, which is required to open the door to the hidden room.

If you do not have a map of Toraimarai Canal, try to make sure that someone in your party does, or that you at least have a printed out version because it's a confusing place. You need to get to (G-8) on the second map. There are two entrances to the second map. You need to enter via the one around (J-9) so that you can get to the upper level.

Once at (G-8), you will be in a large room with bats and four NMs that you must kill to gain access to the secret room. Kill the four NM slimes in the room called "Hinge Oils". They do not link. Be advised that they have wide-range area effects that will knock a Tarutaru mage to zero hitpoints in one swoop, so mages MUST stay back.

Once all four slimes are dead, you can enter the Marble Door, which is up a staircase on the far side of the room. Once inside, you are to examine the "Tome of Magic". There are several of them, but the one that gives you the cutscene is the stack of books on the floor along the left wall, next to the chair with a skull in it. Go through a cutscene with the Star Sibyl, then head back to the Opistery and speak with Tosuka-Porika again to finish the mission and obtain key item: Blank Book of the Gods.

Can we do it?
# Nov 13 2004 at 10:51 AM Rating: Decent
I'm a Taru BLM70 with a static party consisting of PLD, SAM, DRK, BLM, WHM and RDM, all 70 -- can I complete this mission with this group, or should we bring other LS members to do it? Obviously it's safer to bring an alliance, but I'm a minority in my LS as Windurstian and I don't really want to trouble more people for a mission/quest that's only for me. The other Windurstians in my LS aren't ready to do it either, and we're pretty much the highest level characters we have to draw from, outside of asking non-LS friends to help. Will we get slaughtered? =p

Edited for spelling.

Well I helped out on this mission and it kinda sucks. The AOE is quite deadly and this guy hits pretty hard. On the first one we had a few casualties, first it poped its aoe for a few hundred dmg to everyone in range then I poped off sneak + DE and pulled aggro enough to cause me to take a few hits. He hit me for around 100 each time and got my evasion to 217, so hes higher than level 63 as a NM. The tanks got aggro back and soon after he was dead but not after taking down a rdm and a coupld PLD's and droping our Galka Sam who was 65 down to under 100 hp also. I was down to 400 or so myself.

THis group was an alliance all over 60 (except for one whm that was 58 or so)

We raised the dead and pulled the others but this time we let the 68 Smn let Fenrir fight the NM, Fenrir got killed but almost won, cast him again and let the two 70ish Bst sic courrier carrie on him and the rest of us basically just watched.

This is an evil battle with a bunch of blms or smn and bst, I wouldnt advise it as this thing can kill a 75 PLD in a short period of time.

Also stuff will aggro at 64 and possibly higher before that final room so watch out. Be careful of thsoe skellys in the room right before the final one also, they cast ancient magic, a galka sam got hit with it for around 1k dmg when he got aggro and didnt run out of casting range fast enough.

All and all this mission can be done with a couple high level bst and/or a high level smn. I'd recommend blms also and to cast sneak the whole way there, links can and will happen and they're nasty.
