Walkthrough

Switchstix in Castle Zvahl Baileys can upgrade degraded weapons if you bring him the things he wants.

The first upgrade will require:

Fee: Montiont Silverpiece x4

The Relic Sword is a drop from Dynamis - Windurst. The Koh-I-Noor is crafted (Goldsmithing 20) from a HQ3 of a Sparkling Stone which is dropped in Dynamis - San d'Oria, Dynamis - Windurst, Dynamis - Jeuno, and Dynamis - Bastok. The Orichalcum Chain is crafted (Goldsmithing 93). Trade all four items and payment in Silverpieces to Switchstix and he will upgrade it to a Glyptic Sword. You will need to wait one game day.

The second upgrade will require:

Fee: One Hundred Byne Bill x14

You must wait one Earth week before you can get the second upgrade. Turn all of these items in along with the fee and he will upgrade the Glyptic Sword to the Dynamis Sword.

The third upgrade will require:

Fee: Lungo-Nango Jadeshell x60

The Attestation of Glory drops in Dynamis - Beaucedine. Trade these two items to Switchstix and he will upgrade the Dynamis Sword to the Caliburn. The Caliburn will allow you to use the special weapon skill Knights of Round, but only in Dynamis areas.

The fourth upgrade will require:

Fee: Ranperre Goldpiece x1

The Holy Fragment drops off the Animated Longsword in Dynamis - Xarcabard

Trade the Holy Fragment, Shard of Necropsyche, Caliburn and currency to the pond in Dragon's Aery to receive a cutscene, the Excalibur, and 30 Montiont Silverpieces.

4th Stage Commision

3rd stage will require ~6400 but I am pretty certain that the 4th stage does not have a commision.

From what I've read I believe the 4th requires defeating an "Animated" enemy in Dynamis-Xarcabard. In this case you would find the Animated Sword. The animated enemies talk just like an NPC and the only way to keep their "interest" is to have people use 2-hours and do MASSIVE damage on it. If you are not doing enough damage, the mob will become bored and will retreat.

The Animated Sword is what will drop the Holy Fragment. From the screenshots I've seen, I do not believe the fragment is a 100% drop.
they forgot something ._.

belive it or not there is some info on these still missing... the last 2 stage's do have fee's as well for Commission...

Not to sure about the Excalibur per say, but judging ya the relic sythe (wich i do have thx to a JP screenshot from turning in the Assertaion of Vigor) this thing will be around 60-65 (yes you heard me on that) 100 Currency (Relic Sythe was 62), and a finaly 100 100 Currency (or 10000, but this is a complete guess and i hope im wrong) for the finaly... in gil speak a fully done relic runs anywhere from 90-100million gil -.-

screenthingy hear if ya dont belive it >.< http://www.angelfire.com/zine2/zar001/

From what the screenshot says, I saw a 62 after he said 100 byne bill. So for the 3rd upgrade, you need 62 Byne Bill for commision from Switchtix, and lol that would cost way more than what we would imagine ; ;. I'd be happy to get the 2nd upgrade if I ever get there.

P.S. To the person asking how the KoTR WS would look like, there's a video floating around about the net on how it looks like. And as for the damage, "Damage proportionate to current HP" whatever that means.

It's additonal effect: damage proportional to current HP (I.E. Spirits Within does damage proportional to current HP), and would suggest a Spirits-style add effect ignoring def etc. I guess it would hit at say 5% HP additional damage - that sounds fair although this is a complete shot in the dark.

This makes the add effect on excalibur amazing for mobs with v high defence, as if you wouldnt be uber enough already to posess one.
Knights of the Round?

Ok, now.. when I think of being able to use Knights of the Round, I can't help but to think back to FFVII, where it was an uber summon that pawned all and did ungodly amount of damage. This is a different game, however, and I'm thinking that its not the same. So, I'm curious now, and my question is, what is Knights of the Round, and what does it do here...? Is it a WS..?

Knights of the Round is a weapon skill, and a powerful one at that. First of all, it is has a Level 3 Renkei (Light) embued within it. Then, if that's not enough damage already, then there's also a rumor that it is a twelve fold attack (like using Hexa Strike 2 times in a row). Either way, it will far outdamage any other weapon skill a sword can use. Not to mention the possibility that it can be used after a Darkness skillchain to chain into a Level 4 Renkei (rumors of Ultima are popping up). I'm looking forward to seeing people on Gilgamesh with this sword.

firs of all dynamis= is were you trade a hour glass to trial marking at the four cyties and beaucedine glacier and xarcabard <i've heard that havent really be there> seems like they did open them on other areas but so i'm not sure of the rest just can confirm you the beaucedine glacier one, if you wanna get to beaucedine glacier dynamis you must complete the 4 cyties before even think on going there and by what i can say easier is bastok > jeuno > san d'oria > and hell as windurst (wich my dynamis ls did like 6 times bfore clearing) then afther that at least on my dynamis ls there is lotting rules not everyone is allowed to lot on everything like: new members are only allowed to lot on crafting items (such as gold coins, lancewood logs and so on) everyone cans lot on relic weapons only people who have done dynamis with the group are allowed to lott for AF-2 (wich is not a common drop for any job) then comes the people who lott for 100 coins the 1 coins are autoloted so everyone has a chance to get them also thfs can steal them from white mages or NM in dynamis, the items needed for upgrade weapons are only lotted by the people who need it and have made the weapon that far on upgrade so not every pld is allowed to lott on that kinda item unless he has spend on upgrades if no pld has made it that far they all can lot on the item even if they dont need it (special case lets say) but until today i have yet to see that WS everything in dynamis happens so quick that no time for worring about it i've heard some people who can use the WS inside dynamis but none i've seen outside.

Yo i'm new to allakhazam and to the game, however i c the process to obtaining this Excalibur and it rly doesn't looks that tough.

Mabe I'm just an ignorant war trying to get pld, but could you explain me, why is this believed to be unreachable?

I think people already covered it but, getting to the 3rd stage of the weapon upgrade requires time, money and luck really. First 2 stages are enough to make people go crazy, but is attainable, good luck getting to the 3rd let alone the 4th. Excalibur is a sword that pretty much is a statement saying that you have worked so hard in your LS, and you deserve to get that sword.

Not only are the items you need to upgrade the sword extremely rare drops, but the Dynamis areas are meant for a total of 64 people, and everyone, not just the people in your party or alliance, can lot on all items. So even if one of the items does drop chances are alot of other people in Dynamis with you are going to want it.
RE: It doesm't looks that tough

because the items you need are VERY rare drops in dynamis( the highest lvl areas in game) and the upgrades by swithvix(whatever his name is) also take a VERY long time.

There are these markings in all the main cities and some other areas I don't know about. There are dynamis in Windhurst, Bastok, Sandy, maybe Jeuno, and a few other areas. You need to have some sort of hourglass to trade to these markings to get in. You need a huge alliance to even stand a chance in there and you all need to be very high level. I saw a group of JP players getting ready to go in, all of them had their AF armor, actually, it might have been their AF2/Relic armor. I dunno. But it was an awesome sight to see.

to get to dynamis min level is 65 and u have to beatin shadow lord which is at the end of rank 5. Once u are 65+ u talk to the goblin npcs in davoi beaduax or castle orjotoza <-- "is that right" and they will sell u a hour glass for 1 million which you trade to the trail markings in the city max number of people that can go 64 i think i wouldnt go without 30+ and plan on winning. U fight all nm's of each city like quadvs in bastok get no exp and u die very easy all mobs have two hours and are tough usually puller pulls on and 2 more mobs appear so u link 2 u fight 6 3- u fight 9 O.o all artifact two drops in each different city. And the relic weapons which can be upgraded to this weapon got the relic sword and a kal i nor got a long way to go and i got relic dagger 75rdm :)

The first two stages of upgrading the Relic Sword involve Switstix, the Goblin NPC just inside Castle Zvahl. You must go to him, trade him the weapon, the materials he requests, and pay him in Dynamis currency before he agrees to upgrade your weapon.

Stage 1: => Glyptic Sworc

Materials:
Koh-I-Noor
Orichalcum Chain
Cermet Chunk

Comission:
4 Montiont Silverpieces

Wait one game day, and he gives you the Glyptic Sword.

Stage 2: => Dynamis Sword

Materials:

Bronze Sword
Mythril Sword
Wing Sword

Comission:

14 100 Byne Bills

Wait one earth week (about) and you will receive the Dynamis Sword.

Stages 3 and 4 are muddy, as all the information comes from japanese sites and the english is unclear and the item names are mistranslated. From what I can gather, stage 3 requires obtaining an 'Attestation of Glory' (appears to be an item like the Genkai 5 Testimonies). This will upgrade your weapon to the Caliburn. Stage 4, the final stage, requires obtaining a 'Holy Fragment' from the pond in Dragon's Aery. It's probably a lot harder than that sounds. This game never lets you have anything this good (The Excalibur) without making you fight some nasty monsters and making you wait a long time.
RE: What I know
# Sep 23 2004 at 1:08 PM Rating: Decent
Nice post, rated up... however to my understanding, the Attestation of Glory is a Drop from a Shadow NM in Dynamis-Beaucedine. It's a lotto drop and not gauranteed. Also there are like 10 other Attestations that drop from the same mobs, so you could litterally do Dynamis-Beaucedine 50 times and never get it ; ; After you DO get it you have to lot against all the PLDs and RDMs who need it too. Not an Easay task at all to upgrade. The Dynamis' that I've been in require you to have the 2nd stage weapon in order to lot on the Attestations.

Also to my understanding, the Holy Fragment is NOT obtained in Dragon's Arey. RATHER, you must take the Caliburn there and trade it AND the Holy Fragment to the ??? and you will 'supposedly' recieve a nice cutscene and the Final stage of the sword.

My main question is this: Where do I get a Holy Fragment? ><;

Quoted from MrBrisby in the Excalibur item page:

Lv. 1:

Relic Sword - Drop: Dynamis-Windurst

Lv. 2:

Relic Sword + Koh-I-Noor + Orichalcum Chain + Cermet Chunk (+ 4 Montiont Silverpieces as commission) - NPC: Switchstix (Castle Zvahl Baileys) = Glyptic Sword

Lv. 3:

Glyptic Sword + Bronze Sword + Mythril Sword + Wing Sword (+ 14 100-Byne Bills as commission) - NPC: Switchstix (Castle Zvahl Baileys) = Dynamis Sword

Lv. 4:

Dynamis Sword + Attestation of Glory - Hydra Corps (Dynamis-Beaucedine) = Caliburn

Lv. 5:

Caliburn + Holy Fragment (Rumor: Kindred Paladin in Dynamis-Xarcabard drops the fragment) - Holy Fragment --> Dragon's Aery (G-7) = Excalibur
