Summary

The Temple of Uggalepih is an ancient place where it is said that evil deities were once worshipped. Gilgamesh has ordered you to travel there and search out a strange, old hermit.

Walkthrough

There are a few quests you might have to do before you can do this mission.

When you kill Tonberries, the Tonberry hate will accumulate. The damage of a weapon skill used by the tonberries is proportional to the Tonberry hate. Only those party members who damage the tonberry will accumulate hate. Because the BCNM battle is against Tonberries, you should find out if any of your party members has been killing Tonberries. If so, they should reset their Tonberry hate. To save time, ask anyone needing to do this to do it before you start doing the mission.

To do this, first go to I-8 in Norg and talk to Magephaud. Give her 3 gold beastcoins (about 8-10k each) and she'll give you a key that will open a hidden door to reset Tonberry hate. However, unless you have killed tonberries before, you cannot trade gold beastcoins to her and get the key. After that, head to F-11 in the Temple of Uggalepih. One of the walls in the middle can be opened with the key from Magephaud. Inside there will be a Tonberry Priest that will reset hate for a price. This is not necessary, especially for mages who heal only.

At least one person will need a paintbrush of souls to get to the Den of Rancor. Go to the Temple of Uggalepih and fight Tonberry Cutters until they drop "an Uggalepih key". Tonberry Cutters can be found a little further in from the entrance.

To get into the Sacrificial Chamber in the Den of Rancor you will need to obtain 4 unlit lanterns which will help open the gate (or you could bring nice friends that kept their lanterns). The lanterns are dropped by Tonberry Maledictors. There are a lot of spots to find them. From the main entrance of Temple of Uggalepih, head to J-7 and open the secret door, exit at K-3 to Yhoator Jungle. Go to another entrance at the right side of K-9 in Yhoator Jungle. Once in the temple, go to H-7. There should be 2-3 Tonberry Maledictors there. Once you have got the Uggalepih key and 4 unlit lanterns, go back to the main entrance and head to F-7 on the first map to get the paintbrush.

Now exit at F-5 to enter Yhoator Jungle and enter the temple at H-11. Once in the temple, head to I-10 and defeat the Temple Guardian. Make sure to prevent the Temple Guardian from using Meltdown ability by using stun because it can kill the whole party. After you kill the Temple Guardian, the door in front will open. Once it is open, head to J-7 and keep going further. There'll be a room with a bunch of paintings and 2 with just the frame. Go to the frame that you have to face south to, and use the paintbrush. It will take a couple minutes to open the door so I recommend clearing out this room. Once the door is open run in and zone to Den of Rancor.

Invisible/Sneak everyone in the party and go to E-5. Clear the room and have people with the unlit lanterns touch the Altar of Rancor to get a Rancor Flame. Once that is done, head to I-5 which will go to another map. On the second map, go to E-5. It is recommended to clear this room because you can't light the lanterns while getting hit. Have each person with the Rancor Flame light the four lanterns to open the door. You will still have the Rancor Flame, in case you need to help other people.

After zoning into the Sacrifical Chamber, go inside the door for the BC fight. There are 3 Tonberry NMs and the order in which to kill them:

1 - Grav'iton (THF)
2 - Molyb'iton (BLM)
3 - Tungs'iton (SMN) + elemental pet

It is very difficult, if possible at all, to sleep the THF. So you can kill the THF first while you silence and/or sleep the BLM and SMN. Ignore the pet and concentrate on the SMN as it will disappear once the SMN is dead.

When you are done, you will get a cutscene and will exit from a different gate than the one you went in. Take this into consideration if you have more than 6 people needing to do this battle.

yes! yes you do!

Set the record on Remora last night with SAM/WAR (me), WAR/NIN, WHM/BLM, WHM/NIN, RDM/BLU. RDM and WHM/BLM slept SMN and BLM tonberry, WHM/NIN flashed Gravi'ton and we set about murdering them. BLM went down in one sekkanoki'd Yuki -> Gekko, SMN didn't last must longer than one buffed Steel Cyclone. The fight was beyond easy...

however, do NOT forget to reset your hate after farming lanterns! I reset my hate on the way in, we farmed the two lanterns we needed in about an hour, then were rushed into the BCNM by the RDM who had to make a Sea run. I kept hate through the fight with Gravi'ton since I knew my Tonberry Hate was relatively low and Everyone's Rancor still connected for 847 HP. If you're going to rush into the fight, be certain that one member has low enough hate to eat Everyone's Rancor or else it could get a bit messy.

Ya, I've been shouting for around a week now I think and nobody seems to want to do this mission. If anyone on Remora needs this or would be willing to help with it, send me a tell: My character name is "Eice", I'm a Rdm75, and I'm usually online. I have an unlit lantern as well.

Question, I think I've done all of a couple hundred damage to any tonberry just from when I fought pots in the temple for my rdm test. Will this damage make any significant difference on the hate? I know the damage I've done is under 1k, and I'm pretty sure it's under 500 as well.
getting there was half the battle...
# Nov 30 2007 at 11:33 PM Rating: Decent
Actually, I think getting there gave us a hell of a lot more trouble than the battle itself. There were five of us, myself SMN72/WHM36, a BLM75/WHM37, NIN75/WAR37, PLD75/WAR37, and a DRK72/SAM36. Interesting mix, but hey, it was all the bases covered. So anyway, we go into the Den of Rancor, an area with mobs that aggro to sight and to sound strategically placed by SquareEnix to avoid almost any safe spots. Naturally, only one person brought sneak/invis pots, so most of the party was relying on someone else, a recast nightmare in the making. (*Note: bring lots of sneak and invis when you go, just in case you were thinking of being stupid) Then we had only one person who had an Unlit Lantern, so we had to get a couple more. That was relatively easy except that we didn't realize it at first, so we ended up clearing the lantern room about four times. (*Note: try to do obtain those in advance of your run if you can, so you can make a quick detour for the flame on your way down) One thing I noticed is that the guide says to kill Tonberry Maledictors for the lanterns, but we got all of ours off of Tonberry Imprecators. Once we got through all that, we made it into the Sacrificial Chamber, rested, and went in.

From this point on, it was really easy. We buffed up, Sleepga II-ed the mobs and pulled the THF first. (S)He was the hardest of them, using Perfect Dodge and Everyone's Grudge, and our NIN obviously had much Tonberry hate (2568 dmg or something). So we raised him while the PLD took over tanking. He was basically dead at that point anyway though. After the THF came the BLM, and finally the SMN after that. Our BLM kept the mobs slept and silenced, I cured and raised, and the melees meleed. We finished the battle in around 9 mins for the record, and got a really neat cutscene. I had always wondered where Tonberries came from...

Anyway, definitely remember SNK/INVIS pots. Try to get the Lanterns early to save time. And it really isn't absolutely necessary to reset your Tonberry hate, since no one in our party did, and we had only one death that didn't even affect the rest of the battle.

so easy
# Aug 17 2007 at 11:12 AM Rating: Decent
we just did this two times for people

first setup was
73nin/war(me)(needed mission)
75pld/war(tanked)
75brd/whm(crowd control)(needed mission)
75drg/war(DD)(needed mission)
64rdm/whm(helped heal)(needed mission)
62blu/nin(some DD and a few stuns)(needed mission)

brd lullaby' everything while we take thf, thf takes a bit because he has some crazy evasion and he loves to use the 'sigh' tp move which boots evasion. Next was blm, he dies like a wet paper towel, before he could even mana font. Summoner was the only one that hurt at about 50% hp he poped his astral flow with ifrit out, the AoE fire attack did about 700 damage to each of us, but he only got it off once and promptly died. No deaths.

Next setup we swapped in a 66war/nin in place of the blu and did it again(because war logged in just after we finished and needed it, so he hotfooted it out there and we went thru the den again, relighting lamps, etc), went even smoother and faster this time. Astral flow only hit us for <300 dmg and we finished the fight about 30 seconds faster. Btw, I thought this fight had a cool cutscene with it, so enjoy. :)

Now to go see how many of the fragments I can solo.

oh and a couple pointers to make getting there go faster.

Paintbrush- in order to paint the painting you must get close to it and click on it so you get a message, after a few seconds it will want you to press enter to continue with the text. DONT DO IT, you must wait atleast 30 seconds for your 'concentration' to be sufficient, after that time just click thru and it should paint it fine. And make sure everyone gets through the door you can NOT open it from the other side, so anyone that did not make it must paint it again.

Flame, this is the fastest way to remember. When you zone into den of rancor just after the paintbrush you want to sneak+invis and then head right, take the first two rights and you will be at the flame, light your lantern then take two lefts going back. Now what you want to do is head almost straight east until you hit a tunnel that curves downward (ie a lower level) once down that level hug the north wall and head west and you will run right into the lamps. Each time we have gone there have been a number of mobs there that need to be cleared. One thing tho is while its true you can not light the torches when being hit that only means physically taking damage, so if you got shadows up jsut light away and run in and zone into the chamber of sacrifice, easy and risk free. We usually have had to fight 4-5 bats and 2-4 tonberries outside each time the place is rather crowded.

Just finished this one myself 10min ago, and the hardest part was just getting to the fight >.< Original setup was: lv66 Blm, lv73 Rdm, lv74 Nin, lv55 Pld, lv 68 Drk, and myself lv70 Drg.

The Drk had the paintbrush already, a blessing we thought, but he couldnt get it to work. The Rdm & Nin ran to get a new one but meanwhile he gets it to work and we go in... door closes. Rdm & Nin ran back for nothing and had to get brush regardless.

The Blm leader wanted to get the unlit lantern from the tonberrys in the Den and we managed to get one fairly quick. Lot went to the Rdm and sadly we couldnt explain how to use one lamp four times. (us being english and Rdm & Nin japanese) Finally got it to work and the Drk decides to go permanently afk.

Going through at least 3~4 hours of work to do this we went ahead for the fight with five, discussed strategy, and went at it. Did amazingly well until Gravi'ton hit Perfect Dodge, delaying us long enough for the others to wake up and a "Everyones Grudge" to one shot the Nin flat out from full. (I became tank for the majority of the fight lol)

Killed Gravi, slept the others and wailed on Molby, who never got to cast during Mana Font. Nin was up again by this time and Smn was going down fast. I hit Sprit Surge at the same instant the d@mn thing hit Astral Flow one shotting the Nin and Blm.

The Rdm, Pld, and I finished it off and we won the fight. I was shocked it was so easy despite the OHK the nin and blm got. I doubt we'd even of had a single death if the Drk had been there, the Nin was a good sport though about the lost exp and we all had fun despite the hard work.
oh muh babyjesus

Okay so... spent... 3 hours on this mission, no big deal.

Went in, camped the lanterns for a while, got all 4, but was aggroed by one of the 67NM tonberries. Doing fine, beating it like no tommorow, then Alwis, our dark, gets Everybodies Rancor on him. does... 5k. then i get rancored right after for 2k, everyone else runs.

So we keep going, get our lanterns lit, move on down to the sacrificial chamber.

It was:

Msgtrafe (me) 75MNK/37WAR
Alwis 75DRK/37SAM
Naemail 75SMN/37WHM
Daffodil 72BST/36WHM

First run, bad strategy.

Got all our buffs on, and ran in. BST used Courrier crab and we wait a couple min. Start of by using Nightmare on them, but it only stick on the smn. We start wailing on the THF, get it down to half, and i get everybody's rancored for 1.8k. DEAD. Drk gets hate, it starts wailing, and then died to flood for 1.2k. Smn runs out of the room, and bst gets stuck at door.

Second run, better, but still bad.

Same thing, run in and buff, then nightmare. sticks to all but THF. hurray right? no. I pop hundred fists and as soon as i get started, he uses perfect dodge, go figure. im too tired to relize i can change over to a diff target, so i keep wailing on him for no reason. Eventually, i get everybodies rancor'd again for 1.3k then firaga III for 600. DEAD. Drk pops blood weapon, but gets wailed on till death. we both get raised simotanously, then die to Astral flow. so we just quit.

Third run. DUH

This time we got smart. we buffed up, and sent pets attacking the thf. First we all wailed on the summon (to avoid astral flow), then move to the blackmage (which we obliterate), then the summoner (where i get everbodies grudge'd for 800 and die). with just the thf left at half health, everyone panics, but drk uses souleater guillotine, and summoner uses predator claws and hes dead.

YESSS

4 deaths for me but hey, it all worked out.
we're doing ZM5 on sunday (3/25)
On server Garuda.
Hit us up if you wanna join.

Siren Server:

AssassinsForHire Linkshell has a WAR1:(Trueassassin) behind the gate. So no lantern hunting which can save hours off the mission. Was able to get 2 parties to sky from ZM1-ZM13 in one day because of this.

Give Alora, Kraum, Israel or Metaldrummer a tell if you need it. If we aren't AFK we'll help you out. We are in EST time zone, if that would help.

Settup was a 75 Pld, 75 Rdm, 72 Pld, 70 Whm, 69 Thf, and 67 Thf. An ls friend(75 Smn) didn't fight with us, but went with us to lead us there. 70 Whm had the Uggalepih key. The 67 Thf had an unlit lantern. I haven't read through the posts to see if this has been mentioned, but we did it with only 1 lantern**. It takes longer, but keeps you from having to fight the tonberrys for the drops. Rdm sleeped mobs. We killed the Thf. Then killed the Blm, then killed the Smn. No one had tonberry hates so they didn't hit for hardly anything.

**The trick is simple. If you have 1 lantern, that person goes back and forth 4 times and lights all 4 lanterns. If you have 2, then those 2 people make 2 trips. Saves tonberry fighting time and keeps yo ufrom getting hate from them.
You only need 4 :P

This was easy, at the right jobs n lvls, the pt setup was thf/nin75 thf/nin74 pld/war75 whm/blm75, we didn't take these mobs one at a time, I'm thf/nion74 and I took the blm, the pld took the smn, and the thf took the thf lol, the whm stayed out of the way of the aoe's and healed everyone. the other thf pulled the mobs to us and the pld ran ahead and took the smn into one corner, i ran all the way in the back and took the blm while it was trying to start with a spell and used sleep bolts to keep him from casting, the other thf took the thf on we were no one died the fights were easy, we did it on ramuh server :P
