Battle Notes

To begin, trade 99 Kindred Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno to obtain the Rare/Ex item Themis Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Horlais Peak zone located in the Yughott Grotto dungeon.

Be advised that a full alliance can enter the battlefield, that there is no level cap for this quest, and that there is a 30 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, you will find Chlevnik, a Behemoth type mob.

In order to spawn the Armoury Crate, Chlevnik must be defeated within the allotted time.

Strategies

A common strategy involves a similar setup alliance setup as one would take to fight King Behemoth, using a couple Paladins (usually subbing Ninja with White Mages and Red Mages, and an assortment of Black Mages and melee jobs.

Upon entering the battlefield, a Paladin will run in first and use Flash to draw hate on Chlevnik, then proceed to run him towards the exit as the melee and black mages start doing damage to him. Whenever Chlevnik begins to cast Meteor, it is suggested to use a command to determine what member of the alliance has hate, and have that person start running away as quickly as they can while the rest of the alliance attempts to avoid it by running in the opposite direction. As Chlevnik is casting, having the other Paladin draw hate on him often helps to interrupt its casting.

  • Be advised though that Chlevnik has a tendency to use Thunderbolt prior to using Meteor, so it is recommended to keep hp levels up as best you can in case you must survive a Thunderbolt/Meteor combo.

Just continue to deal damage and attempt to keep the Meteor damage to a minimum and Chlevnik will eventually fall.

  • Be advised, after its hp drops to zero, Chlevnik will instant cast an exceptionally powerful Meteor that will most assuridely kill anyone in range, so it is recommended to have one BLM or melee with TP to finish Chlevnik off and one Paladin with hate on it to pull it in one direction while the rest of the alliance moves out of range.

We tried to fight this on Shiva and had it down to about 5% hp when the timer ran out. He does and AoE stun attack that has a huge range and then immediately begins casting meteor which will one shot you if you dont have blink and stoneskin on. There is no way to straight up fight him as he will just about one shot anyone if they get hit, so you have to kite him up and down the mountain. You need to have a lot of BLM run the opposite direction that the person kiting is so no meteor and have them cast Blizzaga III or Blizzard IV. I wouldn't attempt this without numerous 71+ BLM and a couple of PLD who are willing to run like hell from a huge Behemoth.

The NotED LS on Fairy beat this earlier tonight. We are the only western LS to have beaten a BC99 on the Fairy server. We did 4 runs: first was painfully close but a loss, second was beaten with 10 seconds to spare(!), third was beaten with 50 seconds to spare, and the last KB lookalike was destroyed in a record 21 minutes 6 seconds.

Notable drops:

Dreizack
Purgatory Mace
Gawain's axe
Behemoth Tongue (for black belt quest)

The Dreizack we obtained is the only one on the server as far as anyone can tell. If they let Arvin wear it after tonight he'll be showing off as much as humanly possible XD The mace is also very rare, I'm aware of only one other in existance on Fairy. I had the dubious pleasure of watching another WHM receive it ^^; Ah well, it was her seals. Getting 99 of them is no mean feat and she deserves it. I'm still jealous though ; ;

The monster itself is identical to King Behemoth but has lower HP. It's a very tough fight and damn exhilirating. The most fun I've had on FFXI for a long time.

From what I hear it's harder than even King Behemoth. One of the big HNM LS's on our server tried it and lost several times. They said it used that AoE paralyze and Meteor like every 5 seconds.
Wow another behemoth
