Description

Upon completion of “Even More Gullible’s Travels” you will be bathed in a scent from the Rafflesia flowers. This is a scent that Opo-Opo’s love but Mithra HATE. The messages of those you talk to in Kazham are sometimes amusing when you are bathed in the scent. To get rid of this scent, you start by talking to Gatih Mijurabi in M&P’s Market in Kazham. She’ll mention that you have to go stand under a hot spring somewhere “deep under the sea.”

You can have this scent washed off at any point after you have started “The Way to King Opo-Opo.” Once you have started that quest, the scent is no longer necessary.

This is in Korroloka Tunnel. There are several interconnecting tunnels in Korroloka, so you may have to explore a little bit to figure out where you need to go. Ultimately, the waterfall is located in a little room at G-9. All you have to do is stand under the waterfall for about 5 minutes and the scent will wash right off.

This would be easy if it weren’t for the 3 level 70 NM’s guarding the place. They are Jammer Leeches and are a much stronger version of the leeches that are summoned for the Ninja Quest. They can be pulled individually, although they certainly do link. A party of 60-65 should be able to take one out without too much trouble. All 3 at once would be a problem for that same group.

An alternative strategy is to Sneak-Invisible to stand under the waterfall. This won’t last long enough to get rid of the scent, but if you can sleep the leech this will be easy. I picked the left waterfall and stood under it until Invisible wore, at which point I slept the leech. It slept for several minutes, and I got no aggro from the other leeches. I repeated the sleep process twice, with no trouble at all. I did this as a 71 RDM, so this may not be a reasonable strategy for all. Once I moved from underneath the waterfall, I got a message saying the scent was gone.

There are certainly other strategies, but these are the two I can confirm for certain.

Return to Gatih Mijurabi in Kazham for completion of the quest and your reward of the Mithran Stone.

Invisible not needed

ONLY big oops on the walkthru is that the writer says sneak+invisible, not just sneak... otherwise it was as easy prey as he said. stoneskin, sneak, sleep II as they say... and make sure you step out of the pool after a few minutes.
Easy

Soloed this as a LV61 RDM. For maximum preparation, I wore a Skulker's Cape (enhances effects of Sneak and Invisible) and a Wind Staff.

As I apprached the area, I cast Blink, Stoneskin then Sneak and went under the left waterfall because that time, the leeches were far apart from each other. The game says the water is tepid, and good to refresh yourself and stuff. I stood under there, and when Sneak wore off and the Leech aggroed me, I just Sleep IIed it. Then I would cast Refresh, then force remove Blink and Stonekin, then recast them, then wait. When the Leech wakes up, Sleep IIed it again, rinse and repeat. After 5 minutes, I went out from under the waterfall and it said the smell of the Raflessia is gone. The Leech is still asleep and I warped my *** out of there.

No need to fight it. I even met that Colin Crab NM on the way but didn't kill him because his drop sucks.

What the hell is "The Way To King Opo-opo" quest? I have checked two sites thoroughly, and from what I can see this quest does not exist. If anyone has a link to a description, rewards, and method, please post it, thanks.
Level 50 is wrong

Just soloed these as a 70 thf. Got between 35 and 40 exp for each. No way these are level 50. WIth that exp they would have to con high EP to me. Other than that they were rather easy. Their accuracy is horrible, only had to put shadows back up maybe 3 times per fight. When they do hit, they hit hard though. Got hit 3 times: 129, 154, 151. Put shadows back up, couple of bloody bolts and I was fine. I was hitting them for between 25 and 50 per hit, plus around threee DE's per leech for an average of 500 each, so they have to have a couple thousand HP each.

I solo'd one of these as NIN64/RNG32 (was doing various quests so widescan was useful)

It hit me like 3 times but other than that, 4 Utsusemi: Ni and 2 Utsusemi: Ichi were enough to take care of it. They have crappy accuracy, but when they hit, they really do hit hard (150+)

Got 57 exp and my scent removed.

These leeches hit very hard, so if you plan to take them on you might want to use shadows to blink tank. I went in as a 75 RDM and pulled aggro from one of the leeches when Sneak wore. They are easily slept, and I finsihed the quest fairly quickly. That said, I never like getting smacked around by wimps so I sleep-nuked the leech to death.

They die quite easily, just don't let em hit you.

Went in as a 75 WHM/BLM. I was concerned that my Sleep would be resisted with a BLM sub on a level 70+ mob, so I laid down an ES+Sleepga once my initial sneak wore off.

I spent a total of 10 minutes in the center pool under the waterfall, even though 5 is enough. My subsequent Sleepgas were never resisted, although its duration became shorter over time. As long as you keep Stoneskin up and have a juice to regen MP in a pinch, you should have no problems at all. Cast Stoneskin and Blink while the leech/leeches sleep, and you should never be interrupted when recasting Sleepga.

When enough time has elapsed, once you leave the pool, you will receive a message that the scent was removed. Since this message does not appear until you step away from the pool, checking the ES timer while under the waterfall can be useful in informing you how much time has elapsed.

I did this quest recently, and found it rather easy. I'm a level 71 Mithra SAM/THF, but I used a WHM sub for this one (WHM level 40, so during the quest it was maxed at 35, just to clarify).

After reaching the location, I cast sneak on myself and settled into the center pool, on the left-hand side (if you're facing the pools). Within 30 seconds, sneak decides to go poof. The leech guarding the pool was over on the other side of the pool, so I started casting sneak again and cancelled my current sneak spell at 50% cast time. Sneak went down, sneak went back up, no problem.

The leech would love to scare me by coming right up to me as I got the first sneak message during the next two times sneak started wearing, but always flopped out of aggro range on the third warning. Same thing again. Start casting, cancel current sneak at 50% cast time, sneak goes back up.

After five minutes, I grab my beach towel, step out of the pool, and parade my freshly cleaned mithran butt back home. I was wondering when the last time I took a bath in-game was.

For the record. The leeches do not aggro sight, only sound. I was able to complete this quest with a lvl 75 whm with me. He tried to take on the leeches, got whooped sneak wore, he re-raised and then i just kept sneaking and running in and trying to last the 5 mins. At 4:30 sneak wore and I didn't get the message. Finally, I equipped my ice staff for the +15 wind, (since sneak has the green ball next to it, its either wind or agi spell, I think) and the whm cast elemental seal and then cast sneak on me (he had higher enhancing magic), then sneak lasted for 5:15+ and I got the message.
use a mule as bait
# May 29 2005 at 7:37 PM Rating: Decent
Just completed this quest tonight. Here is what I did: I used one my brothers mules to serve as a distraction bait to get the Jammer Leeches out of the room. He was a lvl 1 Thief. I sneaked and invisible myself and stood under the waterfall for about 1 minute. I then had my brother hit his 'Perfect Dodge' and run in to the room and aggro them out and run as far as he could survive. I stood there well over 5 min. and the leeches never came back (they are very sloooow to come back). The scent went away and I just warped out. It was the only strategy I could think of that was the safest and it worked perfectly. No need to kill leeches, no need for sleepga, no need to recast invisible or sneak. I suggest you guys try this strategy also.

Just did this as a 60SAM/30WHM.

Now here's what I figured out:
- Don't go to the waterfalls on the left of right.
- There are two two waterfalls in the center, and the Jammer has to guard both. The waterfall on the center-right has a stone in front of it, while the one on the center-left is mostly open.
- I haven't studied the Jammer's movement pattern for hours, however it seems to spend more time at the right one.
- Cast sneak and invis, then go to the center-left waterfall.
- Now, when either starts to wear, look to see where the Jammer is and decide if you wanna stay in or play it safe and run out.
- Also remember that if invis starts to wear you should be able to recast it as soon as it wears off without trouble. But if sneak starts wearing, you'll have to cast both sneak and invis, so make sure the Jammer is at the other waterfall if this happens.
- I did get arrgoed a couple times while experimenting, and was able to run and lose them very quickly.
- If you do this right, you should be able to cast sneak/invis, run to the waterfall, recast both sneak and invis while the Jammer is at the waterfall, possibly recast again, then leave.

Alternate Stradegy: Only for the daring. Purposefully let yourself get arrgoed, then run the Jammer(s) as far away from the waterfalls as you can. Make sure they stay within range so they keep following you. When you zone or think you've gone far enough, lose the arrgo by zoning or outrunning them, then turn around and sneak/invis past the Jammers you pulled away, then run back to the waterfalls as fast you can and stay there while they come back (THEY TAKE A LONG TIME TO COME BACK).

easy for bards
# Oct 25 2004 at 7:14 PM Rating: Decent
i just solo'd it as a 65brd/whm.

start off w/ sneak and took the closest pool.
sneak lasted about 5mins then i slept the jammer just as it was gonna agro.

double ballad and stoneskin on myself.
kept sleeping the jammer whenever it woke up and cured myself while it slept.

did that for about 10mins then left the pool, got the message, legged it to altepa zone.

be sure to warn any body you see on the way. ^^

lol nothing to do with the topic... but,

I come from the country that has a lot of these flowers (Malaysia) and I can tell you the flowers smell like rotten carcass. Lots of flies and such. It's no wonder the Mithra hate it!

after you do gullible's travels quest (the 2nd one), and check those rafalsia flowers in yutunga jungle, you get those jars of nectar.

after you examine the tree flowers and three jars of nectar you become "dizzy" and you get the smell of the flower on you. once that happens you will be hated by the mithras in kahzam.

to clear off that "hate" you have to sit in those pools where these Jammer leeches stay. there is 1 leech per pool. these are very hard. i solo'ed one at level 64, but it was insanely hard. one ate up my pets (since tunnel mobs are really low level) and my HQ jug pets would do only about 1/5 of the leeches health before dying. so pretty much i'd have to waste 3-4 mins using low level pets to wait for my call beast ability to recharge.

after you kill one of the leeches, you can examine the rafalsia flower again (1 leech = 1 flower). so that rdm quest starter for gullible's travels wasn't lying about the nectar was "treasure". however these nectar jars are only worth about 2k+ if you sell to the vendor (since you can't sell it anywhere else). if you're a high level like nin, you could probably do this pretty well since they hit really hard, but if you can evade most of the hits, then its easy.

you notice that people do that crawler's nest spawn the guardian crawler for rolanberries, yet that seems easier, unless you can tank these leeches, kill them, have kahzam as your homepoint, examine the flowers, get the jars, sell, and then repeat. at least these jars are money straight from a NPC and not the a.h. where you have to wait.

but i still think the reward isn't worth more than the risk.

btw. once you first get the scent of the flower after finishing the even more gullible's travels and plan to get the OPO-OPO Crown, I RECOMMEND DO NOT TAKE OFF THE SCENT BEFORE YOU START THE QUEST FOR THE OPO OPO CROWN. you will be forced to kill those jammer leeches to respawn the nectar jars to get the scent back.

Easily made this with pld73(me) and an rdm74. Killed 1 by 1 and waited about 8 mins below waterfall. 1 leech repopped so I moved and instantly got the scent removed message, so I guess the other poster is right, just move after the 5 mins are past (altho it won't hurt to wait a few more till repop)

Does anyone know if it would be possible to complete this quest through the use of silent oil/prism powder, and/or sneak/invis?

If so, what is the feasibility of that? I may try it later on this week.

The problems is that you really do have to stand in that fountain for 5-ish minutes. Sneak and Invisible do not last that long, no matter what you use.

Here's what I did... I took a friend down there who was lvl 1.. I gave him some oils/powders to get there safely. He was to distract one as often as needed when my sneak wore. Granted we got there... and my plan was never put into motion... Behold... some person(s) had killed one... so I sat there... relaxed... waited 7 minutes cuz it doesnt' give a msg til you exit the fountain. Quest completed, reward was removal of scent(hurray!) and I think a mithran stone as well.
