Battle Notes

In order to enter the battlefield you will need to bring a Star Orb, which is obtained by trading 40 Beastmen's Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno. When you are ready, trade the Star Orb to the Burning Circle inside Qu'Bia Arena and choose to enter the battle Undying Promise.

Up to 3 people may enter and you will all receive a level 40 restriction. You have 15 minutes to win. You will fight Ghul-I-Beaban, but you're really fighting five monsters, not one. He will resurrect himself 4 times throughout the battle. Each incarnation of Ghul-I-Beaban is stronger then the last. His first three forms will be DRKs, using Absorb spells and low-level magic and obviously hitting pretty hard. After that, he will revive himself as a Black Mage two times. They might not hit as hard, but spells like Blizzard II will bring a lot of pain to make up for it, ESPECIALLY considering you've just fought three DRKs that, while decently easy on their own, have probably whittled away at your party's HP and MP.

Strategies

Party setup used in this guide:

  • 1 NIN/WAR
  • 1 MNK/THF or MNK/WAR
  • 1 WHM/BLM

When ready, enter the battlefield. Once inside, eat your food and buff up. The party runs towards the arena. Before the doorway, the WHM kneels to rest and will remain resting until the 3rd form, unless there is an emergency. Fight in the center of the room, as you don't want your WHM to get hit by Ghul-I-Beaban's Drain spell.

The NIN should only use Provoke twice for each form, once as soon as the form appears and again when Provoke is ready again. This way, Provoke will be ready for the next form. The NIN should use elemental ninjitsu as they do a lot of damage against this monster. Skillchain is Blade: To ==>> SA/Combo.

If the NIN keeps shadows up, the WHM should not be needed at this point except in emergencies, or in the case of AOE blind move. If this happens, Blindna the NIN and the MNK uses Chakra. By the end of the 3rd form, the NIN will also need to be re-hasted. It is very important that the monster stay in the center of the arena. Good times to cast Cure are after a form is killed or right after the second provoke.

When he changes into his fourth form (BLM), the WHM should Elemental Seal/Silence him immediately.

It would seem to me that the Blm would be easier considering you can silence it. A friend of mine claims to have done this with a party set up like this:

Monk/Damage/Heal

where the Monk was tank and decked out in high Eva. and +Agi gear (Emp Hairpin). Then go in and treat it like a normal fight except the Monk tank has to voke/dodge.

Seems to me if you were gonna use MNK/Damage/Healer you should probably go MNK/MNK/Healer, no? Share the tanking among the 2 monks and I can't imagine a better DD than a monk in this situation. Maybe I am incorrect?
Enjoyable BCNM

Tried this earlier tonight, and I must say.. It's an interesting fight. Our setup was WHM, PLD, and DRK.. The DRK was very useful when the BLM forms came up, as he would "Stun" the nasty spells, saving me (the WHM) MP and overall heartache. In the end we lost, but mainly because it was our first time with this BCNM, and we didn't carry many items with us. (Just some food.)

Only problem with this BCNM, is it's soooo far out of the way.. Even if you have Teleport-Vahzl, it's still a long way.. Especially when you need to sneak and\or invis everyone.. (We were between 43 and 47, stuff still conned easy-decent)

By the way, entrance to Qu'Bia is at K-8 in Fei'Yin, first floor.

BCNM

Ok I did this BCNM 4 times over the last three days:

Party: MNK/WAR (me), WAR/NIN, RDM/WHM (later RDM/SMN)

Fight 1: None of us had ever done this BCNM before, so we didn't know really what to expect. Well we got down to the second BLM form, but the WAR couldn't get hate off me when I was doing Hundred Fists and I died. The RDM was long out of MP by now, and had already converted after the 3rd DRK. Shortly after that, the WAR died and then the RDM. The skele had less than 50 hp left, I kid you not.

Time: 9 mins 30 seconds

Fight 2: This time we brought some X-potions and yagudo drinks. We didn't have our 2hrs either, so it was looking like a tough fight. Well we did better hate management in this fight, and we got down to the second BLM form again when the fight was getting close. We were all down in red, spamming our last X-potions. Well the WAR dies, and then I'm about to die when I chakra for 90hp and counterattack for the kill.

Time: 9 mins, 45 seconds
Drops: 150k

Third Fight: We were slowly getting better and this time the WAR and I drank some periscos for hp regen and we went at it. We get down to the second BLM form AGAIN, and I pop Hundred Fists but the WAR waits to long to hit Mighty Strikes to get hate off me. So I get too much hate again (RDM is out of mp by now) and I die. But the WAR finishes it off with Mighty Strikes.

Time: 9 min, 15 seconds
Drops: 100k

Fourth Fight: Now we've figured out that RDM needs to save every last drop of mp. So he buys a hairpin for 10 extra mp, 2 hi-ethers+1, and subs SMN. We also chose not to have shell 2 cast on us, and the RDM didn't cast protect 2 on him. He used Boiled Crab instead, with Stoneskin. So we begin the fight and everything goes good before I realize that I forgot to trade all the X-potions I bought to the WAR. Well we get down to the second BLM form again, and he pops Mighty Strikes. Five seconds later I pop Hundred Fists and spam X-potions when I got low on hp. The RDM runs out of mp right when were about to win, and I finish him off with still an extra Chakra to use. No deaths.

Time: 10 min, 15 seconds
Drops: 350k

We made good money on the last fight. Also, the record on Midgard for this fight is 8 min, 30 seconds. I don't know how people can run out of time in this battle before mp.

Well, tried this tonight. Went a little overboard on potions and such, but it ensured survival. ^^

Party Setup: Mithra PLD/WAR (me), Mithra WHM/SMN and Hume MNK/DRG

Food: PLD: Steamed Crab, MNK: Meat Chiefkabob, WHM: ...something. Damn short term memory.

Drinks: WHM: Yagudo drink, PLD: Yagudo drink

The MNK and I both had 8 x-potions apiece. I also brang 2 hi-ethers and an icarus wing.

How it went: Easy as pie. The rundown of what happens is correctly listed in other posts here. The MNK and I used 2 x-potions apiece, I used 1 hi-ether and the icarus wing (neither of which were required, but I bought them, might as well use 'em.) Was a safe battle, I was using Sword (club skill isn't levelled high enough yet). Our skillchain was Red Lotus Blade > Combo = Fusion. Did some convient damage. I had some issues keeping hate, as I didn't want to waste my MP, but overall the monk only took a small share of it, the WHM was never touched. None of us had to use our 2HRs, it was a very safe battle. We ended with HP in the 300s and 6 x-potions available for use at 13 minutes and 1 second. Note: We took the time to cast Protectra II and Shellra II at the beginning and the WHM rested to full MP before we engaged. Also, the WHM never used Erase or Silence, only Cures and Hasted both of us. The mob did indeed use Bloodsaber, once. (If you are unfamiliar, its the AOE Drain attack skeletal mobs typically use)

Drops:
Bone Chip x2
Gold Beastcoin (8k on Alexander)
Kagehide (40k on Alexander)
Elegant Shield (30k on Alexander)
Scroll of Phalanax (95k on Alexander)

Jobs

Interesting. This seems way too easy. I mean, it seems like a difficult task, but it only takes 3 people (no bard necessary) and you get the same loot at the normal bcnm 40. The normal bcnm 40 may be safer, but this one doesn't have stringent job requirements.

One thing to remember when putting a party together for this BCNM is that Skeletons are strong vs. piercing and weak vs. bludgeoning.

This means a ranger is a terrible job for this BCNM, and a Dragoon (unless they've properly skilled up staff, which is a rare thing) is also useless for this.

A Paladin tank would probably be ideal if they skillup staff. If I remember correctly they have a high staff skill.

If you ask me, the ideal job combination for this is Monk, Paladin, and White Mage. The Monk and Paladin will devastate it, and the white mage can heal and cast silence and erase. Erase is very important for this battle, maybe even a prereq.

At any rate, I'm anxious to try out a strategy with ideal job combinations.

Speaking of PLD with Staff...Use a club. Club and shield works incredibly well on undead and you get that extra couple defense and the ability to block with ur shield. Also, you get a WS that restores MP, that's extremely useful. Since lvl 40 is too low to use an earth staff I wouldn't suggest using a staff.

Did this three times with the same setup: me and WHM/BLM, RDM/BLM, and MNK/WAR.

The first two or three skeletons are very easy, but it is sure death (at least for this setup) if you do not bring a full array of items.

Mages- we used about 6-7 hi-ethers a piece the final time which was the most successful time. RDM used pineapple juice and I used yag drinks. I used rolanberry pie and RDM used pumpkin, but I'd reccommend both using rolanberry because the MP to cure is really what makes this fight.

Tank/dmg dealer- I believe he used mith chiefkabobs and had about 5 x-potions along with some milk for HP regen.

Nuking with cures works to a degree, but it is all dependent on the melee as to the degree you can do this, and on an MP to dmg base for myself I found just Cure to be more effective.

A mix of Cure I and Cure II works for this fight, from both the mages although the WHM should be doing most of it. By the fourth skele the healer will most likely have to rest or use another hi-ether which takes a long time to use and doesn't let you cast for a few seconds. Other mage will heal then. RDM is great for this because while the main healer is running low but can still keep going, the RDM converts and main heals while they rest.

Our MNK used Hundred Fists on the last skeleton as he is the hardest one. Two times I had to used Benediction from running out of MP. First battle, fought and won somehow on limited supplies, but we barely made time. Second fight, didn't make time, third we won with about 2 minutes to spare.

Again I stress, DO NOT ATTEMPT without more than enough medicines to be on the safe side.

Do not be deceived; the description of this BCNM falls WAY short of what it actually is. Fighting Ghul-I-Beaban is not like fighting 1 monster, but more like fighting five. What I mean is this:

When you engage Ghul-I-Beaban, he is a DRK-type mob. He'll use various DRK spells, including Absorb spells (he only used Absorb-STR on my party, but he may have more in his ********* All in all, he's not that tough. But when you kill him, he revives himself. He's still a DRK, fighting the same way he did before. Then, when you kill him, he revives himself yet again as a DRK. Kill that DRK, and he will revive himself yet again, but this time he's a BLM. He's obviously less powerful physically, but still packs a decent punch, ESPECIALLY considering you've just fought 3 DRKs in a row. And this time he'll use level II spells, as well. Kill him again, and he's a BLM again. THEN he dies for good. So, in summary, the chain goes: DRK>>DRK>>DRK>>BLM>>BLM.

You can only use three people to fight this BCNM, as far as I know. I went with a party of 3 from my LS (we died ;_;) and when we left the arena, another party of 3 entered, so I have no reason to assume that 4 people are allowed.

As far as I know, this BCNM40 drops your typical BCNM40 loot, whatever you consider that to be. ;) Also, he drops a dagger that's apparently very good for THFs. That's the whole reason my LS party went to fight him: our THF wanted the dagger. She never told me what it was called, though, but it must be good.

Like I said, we died facing this NM.. but the party that came after us beat him. Our party was a MNK/WAR, RDM/BLM, and THF/NIN. A better set-up (and one that we're going to try next time we fight him) would be MNK/WAR, NIN/THF, and RDM/WHM. That's more or less what the party that beat him after us was made up of. I guess you'll want the NIN tanking, the MNK doing that nice damage, and the RDM/WHM healing and enfeebling when necessary (obviously keep Ghul-I-Beaban Silenced if at all possible).

He's a tough mo' fo', I'll give him that. We manage to get through his 3 DRK forms before I died, and then without any healing, our MNK fell shortly after. Our THF did manage to kill his first BLM, but she had been Absorb-STR'ed by his DRK form, so she just couldn't do enough damage. ^^;; Good luck!

EDIT: There, I submitted an update for it. ^^ That explains things a bit better, I think.

it's real, i've tried it, you're a moron if you bring a ranger (seen a ranger on bones before? good luck).

bring mnk/war mnk/war rdm/whm or mnk/war nin/war rdm/whm or mnk/war pal/war rdm/whm.

monk is neccessity because of the damage monks do on bones, rdm preferred b/c of convert. the DRK forms of the bcnm are easy, things get tough when the BLM comes around.

Don't forget WHM gets Haste at lv40, which is a boon for NIN tanks. Not to mention they can Haste/Erase to counter the slow effect from it's AoE.

Phalanx, erasem utsusumi:ni (no idea how its spelled, I'm a monk!) all drop here, but we got trash.

We got Jennet shield (4k) and raifu axe (30k), plus darksteel ingot and mythril ingot. Maybe 50k total, split 3 ways >.<

Attempted this BCNM twice, but ran out of time on the final sliver of health on 5th skeleton. We were so bitter. Second attempt got the above items.

Party makeup was Mnk/war, Nin/War, Rdm/Whm and it was effortless fighting. No 2 hour needed, just proper gear and food.

Some combat notes: No bloodsaber or icespikes, like later skeletons use. Just blind AOE and a lot of absorb spells. (I love getting hit with absrob int and mind as a monk^^)

Blm forms have lower hp but are way more of a hassle, and seem to have much higher evasion. Slow spell on the mnk was a real pain when you're watching the clock. We considered Whm/summoner as an alternative to rdm since we didnt need convert and haste spell sounded like a good idea to counter the slow (and help the nin get more hate by getting more attacks in)

Anyhow, When that phalanx scroll finally drops, keep in mind the gil is split 3 ways instead of 6 when sold ^^. Have fun

Anyhow... any1 tried and what r rating on this fight? would u count as Easier than other bcnm40?
cuz since it's only 1 monster.
