Mission Orders

Darkness looms over San d'Oria. Report to the Audience Chamber in Chateau d'Oraguille for further details.

Walkthrough

  • First, talk to the any gate guard to accept the mission, then head to Chateau d'Oraguille to receive a cutscene. You are asked to retrieve three magical objects from three different regions. The first two parts can be soloed because no battles are required.
  • For the first part, head to Valley of Sorrows. You will need to enter from northern entrance to Valley of Sorrows that is guarded by Manticore and Cockatrices (as opposed to the coastline entrance). Once you have entered, head south until you come to the cliff. On the west wall there (I-8) you will find a ???. Touch it to get a key item.
  • Second, head to (H-7) of Xarcabard. The ??? is found in the middle of three trees on the upper level of Xarcabard in that grid. Touch it and receive another key item.
  • Finally, for the last part, gather an group and head to Batallia Downs Island at (J-11). You must go through Eldieme Necropolis to get there. This is the island where the Stone Monument is, as well as the ??? for one of the pieces of DRG AF. Touch the ??? (it is the one that you reach by turning right after exiting Eldieme Necropolis) and two greater birds will spawn -- Suparna (BRD type), and Suparna Fledgling (WHM type). The WHM type will use Benediction, so it is a good idea to focus on the WHM first. A full party of LV 75 can win this battle, but an alliance doesn't hurt, especially if members are lower than 75. Once you have defeated both of them, touch the ??? again to receive a third key item.

Did this last night with only 5 people. Took a bit longer to kill the big one and the other one vanished. The person who needed it still completed the quest even tho we only killed the Bigger warrior bird(not a bard, he used mighty strikes). Dont know if anybody else knew this but it worked.

Did this mission today.

First off, if you have plans to do this mission, PLEASE activate it and go do the solo stuff as soon as you can. It takes an hour and you're ready for Batallia. I formed a nice alliance today and over the course of it we realized that 6 of the 15 people didn't have the solos done, and one person didn't even have the mission active. This made 9 people (including 3 people who were not doing the mission but just helping) to wait for nearly TWO HOURS as the other people went to get the mission and get the key items. Make sure you go to Valley of Sorrows first and Xarcabard second; you can't do them out of order.

The pull/zone technique worked perfectly for us.

Correction: With Teleport-Altep and Teleport-Vahzl retrieval of the key items should not take the average individual more than 20 minutes.
easy

the nm's were a piece of cake with 6 level 75's and a 73, we used the flee zone tactic, it took around 2 minutes to kill both of them.
easy fight

Best way to do this fight is to get a THF or /THF to pop the mobs. Have everyone stand off to the side, well out of aggro range. Have the puller pop the birds, flee, and zone back into eldieme to erase aggro. The birds will start walking back, and you can simply pull them one at a time.

We did it this way last night, piece of cake.
cool

Best to have to rdmages for this mission. Once u pop the NM everyone kill the Suparna and have the rdmages cast Gravity on the fledging and let the rdm around around while the fledging is goin after him, when u beat the suparna have the rdm bring back the NM and kill him.

I believe WAR was a typo. A monument for RNG AF2 (Hunter's Beret) is located near the Eldieme exit to the island in Batilla.

Spelling.

Yes well, what IS found here is the tiger NM for Dragoon AF once you hang a left after exiting Eldieme. I do believe that's what he was referring to.
Ahtu

Keep in mind, in doing this quest you can also pick up the "Setting Sun" quest from Sandy. You simply kill the NM Ahtu that spawns on that island and get the "engraved key" for the quest.

Watch it when killing these birds too, chances are Ahtu may spawn while you're fighting them.

I solod Ahtu as a 61 pld. Had to use invicible at the end, but I think I probably would have survived without, but it would have been close.
