Mission Orders

The Rites of Succession will be held at the cathedral in Northern San d'Oria. You are to report there for guard duty.

Walkthrough

First, talk to any gate guard to accept the mission. Once you have accepted the mission, head to Chateau d'Oraguille to receive a cutscene.

Now, form a party and head to Fei'Yin. Upon your arrival, you will receive a cutscene. Once you have finished the cutscene, make your way to Qu'Bia Arena. Buff, and enter the shimmering circle. The battle is divided in to two parts:

Part 1: In the first part, there are 11 enemies -- 10 orcs and 1 Orcish Warmachine.

Upon first entering, the PLD will need to round up all the enemies so that the BRD, BLMs, and RDMs can sleep them. Because there are 15 enemies, there is a good chance that AoE sleeps will miss one or two, so it is important to have backup sleepers. The orcs all go down quickly, so our strategy was to kill them first, and work on the Orcish Warmachine last.

IMPORTANT: leave one of the weak orcs alive and slept. Once there is only that orc left, the mages should cure everyone and rest to full. Once everyone is rested, kill the last orc--that will trigger the transition to part 2.

Part 2:

For part 2, Prince Trion will come to fight along side you. The fight is against 3 tougher orcs ...

If Trion dies, then you lose the fight, so the WHM's primary responsibility will be to keep Prince Trion alive. Each Orc will use his respective 2-hour. The general order that you want to kill in is BLM >> DRK >> PLD. Unfortunately, Trion will choose whatever he wants to choose, so if he goes off to attack another orc, everyone must immediately drop what they are doing and focus on the one that he chooses to fight. He likes to spam Savage Blade, so the only real challenge here is keeping him alive.

Once you have finished the battle, head to Chateau d'Oraguille for a cutscene, then head to the door in King Ranperre's Tomb for another cutscene, then finally back to Chateau d'Oraguille to complete the mission and receive Rank 10, 100,000 gil, and a San d'Orian Flag (furnishing).

Once you have completed the mission, head back to Northern San d'Oria to receive one last cutscene.

PT was:
75NIN
75SAM
75BRD
71WHM
69WHM
64MNK

The first round was fought like BCNM40, the BRD kept everything asleep with Horde Lullaby, the 3 melees went killling orcs one by one at a fast pace. The whms kept Haste and Cures up. Fairly easy fight, both WHMs had 60%+ MP remaining after only 1 orc was left, then we med to full and start 2nd round.

And 2nd round, if you do nothing for about 1min Trion will charge in by himself, so best to start the fight before Trion does. Our 64MNK soloed Left Hand with Hundred Fists, and some Cure4s. While Trion and the other melees killed the warlord, followed by right hand. I think Trion used Invincible during the fight cuz he got a lot of hate and HP went down to 20% before we killed the warlord and right hand. We also saw Trion cast Holy on the orcs.

Overall it was pretty easy with the above PT configuration, we didn't have a BLM but it wasn't needed since BRD kept all the orcs asleep except 1 or 2, and they don't hit very hard anyway, just keep the BRD healed.

Completed this Mission over the weekend with some people. Party setup was:

65 BLM/WHM
66 RNG/NIN
66 PLD/WAR (me)
75 BRD/WHM
63 WHM/BLM
66 SAM/WAR

First off, there aren't 15 Orcs in the first round. There are 10 opponents total: 1 Orc NM, 1 Warmachine, and 8 'regular' Orc mobs. You will want to kill the Orc NM first, then the Warmachine, and then have your tank pick and choose which mob to go for next. Please note: The 'regular' Orcs are ridicuously easy, as stated before, and you should NOT be SCing off of the last couple of Orcs. Build TP up to save on the second round, and then rest when you have one Orc left.

The second round can be a little tricky, especially if it is your first time through. You will want your tank to be out there ahead of Trion so that he will get hate initially. A PLD tank is very useful for this fight. It is important to note here that it is very hard, if at all possible, to sleep Warlord Rojgnoj, as the 75 BRD that was with us was unable to do so.

What we did was have me go in, and Voke Warlord Rojgnoj and see which one Trion picked. If it wasn't Warlord, then quickly SC and kill whichever orc he picks. Spirits Within + a Distortion SC from the RNG + SAM brought the BLM Orc down to about 40% health, and the DRK one wasn't that hard, either.

After that, you will want to focus your attention on the Warlord, while balancing hate between the surviving Orc and the Warlord. You may have to have a secondary voker in to keep the surviving Orc off of Trion, but if you're crafty enough with your abilities, you should have no problems maintaining hate with both Orcs as a PLD ;)

I should also state here that it is a REALLY bad idea to have Trion tank any portion of this fight, as you do not want him taking damage at all. Period. Also, the suggestion of having your BLM save Elemental Seal for this fight and use it for Silence on the BLM is a VERY good idea. Firaga 3 cooked us pretty bad and nearly killed Trion.

Finally, this fight isn't as bad as you think. Our BLM was having no problems sleeping the mobs the BRD missed sleeping, so I believe a balanced mid 60s (65-67+) party will have no problems with this fight. You just need to be careful and not let Trion tank. ;p

Once you have finished this battle, you will have to report back to San d'Oria, where the King will request you head back to King Ranperre's Tomb, and head back to the same spot you fought those bones at for Mission 6-2. After that, head back to the Chateau, and you're done.

Also, after completing this mission, go and visit both Princes in their rooms and zone into South Sandy for some cool cutscenes. Not sure if there are any more in Port Sandy or the Garden, but you may want to check those out as well.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the title given is San d'Orian Royal Heir, and that Trion didn't spam Savage Blade when we did the fight. Jerk did Red Lotus Blade (!?)

Just finished this mission yesterday with a pretty fun party. It was a fun time as well because I ended up saving the day! ^^

Here's the interesting party I put together:
75 NIN/WAR
75 BLM/WHM
74 RNG/NIN
72 THF/NIN
62 DRG/RDM (me)
60 WHM/BLM

All right, it was all I had to work with. I went with /RDM in case of emergencies, grabbed some Yagudo Drinks, some MP+ equipment, and we headed off. The battle started out well-THF used Perfect Dodge and rounded up the enemies. After this, the BLM used Elemental Seal + Sleepga II; all enemies fell asleep. We destroyed the Warmachine, and by this time, a few Orcs woke up. That's where everyone's heart stopped. BLM went from 750 HP to around 300 HP in a few seconds. Luckily, I had a some macros set, and I spammed Poison and Dia to keep the BLM alive until he could get things under control. We were fortunate enough to make it through that, mowed down a couple more enemies, and the fight was totally in our control again. Left one Orc standing (RNG used Shadowbind), and we rested. The second part was a synch. NIN got aggro, THF tanked the enemy that was going after the mages, I healed anyone that got below 50%, and the WHM took care of Trion. BLM silenced the BLM, and needless to say, we won. ^^

Anyways, the moral of the story is that a second Sleeper is not necessary, but it's really very nice to have one. As long as there is some way to sustain damage from many Orcs at one time, though, things can go smoothly with just one strong sleeper.

And RNGs help a lot. ^^

Just completed Rank10. :)

Did it with the following:
LV75 NIN/WAR
LV65 RDM/BLM
LV70 RDM/BLM
LV65 WHM/BLM
LV65 MNK/WAR
LV65 DRG/WAR

Pretty darn easy with two sleep-gaers. Didn't have too many resists. The tactics listed by those who previously did this are pretty darn accurate. So long as you can keep them asleep, you'll do fine.

Good luck!

This mission scares me.

Well, it should. I'm 26 WHM. >.<

And, of course, when I DO get up to this mission, I'll be the one that has to keep Prince Trion alive. Effin great.

NO PRESSURE or anything... >.<

Sounds like fun though, cant wait for it. Just wish I could hit 50 so I could get rank 6.

Well, to be a bit more accurate ... you have to be on the mission, ready for the BCNM, or have completed the mission. Which means that you *can* help if you are:

Currently San d'Orian and on this mission and have seen all prerequisite cutscenes.
Currently San d'Orian and are rank 10 (thus have completed this mission).
Currently Windurstian or Bastokan, but have rank 10 in San d'Oria (thus have completed this mission).

And you *cannot* help if you are:
Currently San d'Orian and on this mission but have not seen the prerequisite cutscenes.
Currently San d'Orian but not yet up to mission 9-2.
Currently Windurstian or Bastokan, and not rank 10 in San d'Oria (so regardless of whether San d'Oria rank is 1 or 9 or anywhere in between, San d'Oria mission 9-2 has not been completed).

In other words, you can do this mission with people from other countries too. But they have to have gotten rank 10 in San d'Oria as well. The same applies to the respective BCs for San d'Oria 7-2, Bastok 7-2 and 9-2, and Windurst 6-2 and 9-2.

You can help regardless of current allegiance, so long as you *were previously* of the appropriate country and had passed that mission.

By the same token, not just any San d'Orian can help - a lower-ranked San d'Orian is not able to help with the BCNM either.

LMAO... that whole long winded and over detailed post could've been just easily simplified by saying:

Only players that can enter this bcmn are those with 9-2 cutscenes finished or are/had Sandy rank 10... period! ^.~

Most of these posts are right on the money. There are a few things I noticed that might help groups get through their first time.

1. Sleep all the mobs and kill the Warmachine FIRST. It can cast Curaga II and wake up all your little green friends (that's bad).

2. Keeping the mobs slept is top priority. Their power lies in numbers, not strength. My enfeebling magic is only at 177, and though my Sleepga II hit most of the time, I usually had 1 or 2 resisters, and the others only slept for about 45-60 sec. If you use Elemental Seal at the beginning of the fight, don't use it again until the second round- you'll see why later. At least 1 backup sleeper is imperative.

3. The orcs have extremely low defense. I could probably have soloed one if I wanted to. However, there is a ranger somewhere in the mix that used Eagle Eye Shot on our tank, doing about 680 damage. Watch out for this guy.

4. As stated in other posts, keeping 1 mob alive and fully healing is extremely beneficial, especially for parties that are doing this below the recommended level.

5. You keep all your buffs and TP when you get to the second round. Using the last few mobs in the first round to build TP might be helpful, but we didn't get a chance to try it. Refresh them if you have to, but do it quickly.

6. DO NOT let Trion run out first and get aggro. This is the easiest way to get him killed. Heal up as fast as you can (you have about 60 seconds), then send your tank[s] out to engage the mobs. If Trion runs out first, he'll aggro all 3 mobs and will be dead before you can do anything about it. If you run out first, you can aggro at least 2/3 mobs and get things under control much faster and smoothly. Once you get hate, the only thing that can kill Trion is the BLM's -ga spells and Battle Dance.

7. An Elemental Sealed Silence worked on the BLM and was very necessary. Once it wore off the BLM cast Firega III, took out our Pally and brought 3 of us into the red from near full. Still not quite sure how we recovered from that.

Like others have said, a death is not necessarily the end of the battle. Our pally took a fall near the very beginning of the first round and we survived to tell the tale. Just keep them grouped together and Sleepga them until things are under control.

Also, this is one of the best times I've had since the Shadowlord fight. Definately worth the effort.

I went in with a party setup that was below the recommended level 70 setup. We had 1 level 70, the PLD, a 68 MNK, a 67 BLM, a 66 RDM, a 63 WHM, and me a 61 DRG and I subbed RDM for the cure breaths. We finished the battle in 26 minutes, but we had a bit of downtime cause the blm died mid battle so we had to wait for his weakened state to wear off. Once that wore off we killed the last mob and trion spawned. We waited for about 1 minute 30 seconds then Trion decided to attack the PLD. We killed the pld but lost our whm in the process. She got raised and we finished off the other 2. So it is doable with a pt below level 70 but there might be some casualties. I am not going to lie and say that its easy, you need to have a good party that knows what they are doing, and you need to be willing to take a death if its necessary. The group I went into this mission with is the same group I have done all the missions after getting rank 6 with, so we all know eachothers play style somewhat. I had a good time on this mission, and if you think you are ready to do it make a party with some friends and give it a try ^^.

I just found out last night (after finally beating this) that once you beat it, you cannot reenter, meaning you cannot help your friends at any point.
Learned that the hard way after 2 friends pretty much broke ties because they thought I bailed on them.

You cannot immediately repeat Windurst 6-2 after winning the battle for the first time either. That doesn't mean you can't ever repeat it.

Not sure if the prerequisite for that mission (or this one for that matter) is actually *finishing* the mission, or if it's waiting until the next RL day.

But regardless, any and all BCNMs (be they for missions or quests) can be repeated, once you have fully completed the relevant mission/quest at least. In many cases, they can be repeated immediately with no restrictions, once you have won the BCNM yourself.

I've done this burning circle fight a few times. Setup was usually something like PLD, MNK, WAR, BRD, RDM, WHM. It is, indeed, necessary to have a back-up "sleeper", since Orcs are fairly large mobs and do not gather very close together for Horde Lullaby to hit them all.

We took the opposite strategy and killed the Warmachine first, getting the tougher mob out of the way while sleeping the easier ones. Beware that there are a few that use Ranged Attacks, and these like to stand away from the crowd so they don't get slept. And they like to pick on innocent mages -.^

After the first half, and after the intermission cutscene, there IS some time for mages to rest. We never tried the "keep one alive and rest" strategy. The 3 Orcs will spawn opposite you in the arena, and they WON'T attack you while you rest. However, after a few minutes, Trion will just rush forward and attack an orc. Just have mages keep Trion targetted, and when he rushes forward, he'll probably lose about 1/2 life before someone else gets the hate. (Trion is pretty weak..) For the rest of the battles, Trion never got hate back.

Reraise is a very important spell, especially for your first time doing this battle, since you really don't know what to expect. However, don't think that if you die, you lose! =) In my first battle, our BLM died, and then myself (damn those Ranged Attacks..). I used Reraise, then Raised the BLM. We rested until sickness wore off while the others continued to fight. Then we simply got back into the fight when we were ready. Also I've had the BRD disconnect mid-battle, as well as a WAR in another battle, and we've still won. It's a tough battle, but if you have a group of people with heads on their shoulders, you can withstand a few bumps in the road. Good luck!

We did the following:

1st half:

RDM ran in with phalanx/stoneskin and rounded the mobs up like for mission 5-1 skeletons. Then BRD ran up to her and Lullabyed everything. Melee engaged the warmachine while all the mages stuck together in a circle with a bunch of slept orcs targetting us. The RNG was hard to keep asleep but with paralyze/slow/blind he wasn't able to do a lot of damage. RDM would Sleepga following the Horde, and I (WHM/BLM) would sleep individual things that woke up. Tank picked RNG after machine died, ate a 900+ Eagle Eye Shot and we picked the little ones off one by one.

We definitely kept one alive as we rested. With 3 sleep-capable mages this was never a problem. We medded up and started the next cutscene.

2nd half:

We screwed up here. Too many people took their time in watching the cutscene and not everybody entered the battle at the same time. Before I knew it Trion was nowhere to be seen and 2 people were at red health. Trion then died and we had to restart.

The second time around a melee kept track of the mob Trion attacked, and Provoked it off him. The RDM kited the PLD Orc around with Gravity while the melee worked on killing the other 2 mobs. I focused on keeping Trion's health high. He takes a LOT of damage.

So my main pieces of advice:

All the mages stick together while sleeping the 10 orcs for the first half of the battle. Keeping the pack together is incredibly important, as it is in any bcnm where there are multiple mobs. :)

Enter into the second half of the battle as quickly as possible, since Trion does not wait long at all to engage a mob. Make sure he doesn't retain hate for any duration of time. He's an awful tank.
