Summary

Somewhere on the island of Zepwell lie the remains of an ancient temple.

Walkthrough

You are to collect seven elemental fragments from Cermet Headstones scattered across Vana'diel. Four headstone will spawn Notorious Monsters upon touching. A balanced party of level 65+ can handle all of these except maybe the Sanctuary of Zitah one, which may need additional healers.

When doing these fragments, BE SURE YOU HAVE SELECTED "YES" to get it. Some people just touch the headstone but accidentally don't get the key item.

Headstones with NM fights

Thunder

Location: Behemoth's Dominion
Go to G-9, clear the area, and have one person touch the stone. Two Legendary Weapon NMs will appear. It is possible to pull one at a time if the person touching the stone has sneak. Pull either one and just kill. For some strange reason, one may despawn and you can get the fragment after killing only one (at least that's what happened for me).

Fire

Location: Ifrit's Cauldron
Enter Ifrit's Cauldron from G-6 in Yhoator Jungle. Sneak/Invisible everyone and head to H-8. Beware the bombs aggro to magic and detect by sight. After the map change, head to D-12. Then head to J-8. There'll be a Flame Spout before being able to go to J-8, either wait or use an ice cluster. You'll probably have to kill the bomb if you're using a cluster. Make sure to have Stun ready in case of Self-Destruct. After J-8, go to E-7, then G-7. There'll be 2 more Flame Spouts and there may be an NM named Ash Dragon at around G-9. It is possible to stick to the walls and walk past him. After that, head to the exit to Yuhtunga Jungle at C-7. Here's a rundown of getting to Yuhtunga Jungle from Ifrit's Cauldron: G-6 > H-8 > D-12 > J-8 > E-7 > G-7 > C-7

After entering Yuhtunga Jungle, go to K-7 through a one of the tunnels under the waterfall. The headstone is at L-6. Touching the headstone will pop two Opo-opo NMs, Carthi and Tipha. Both monkeys will aggro even with Sneak. If you trade a Garnet to the headstone you can get an Opo-opo Necklace.

Wind

Location: Cape Teriggan
Go to F-7 to a cave, then head to H-5 from there. This doesn't show on the map so just hug right all the way from F-7. A Shadow NM named Axesarion the Wanderer will pop after touching the headstone. Beware of Dimensional Death as this NM likes to use it. Have someone ready to sleep the goblin that wanders around here. Trading a Rain Lily to the headstone will give you a Flagellant's Rope.

Light

Location: Sanctuary of Zi'Tah
This is by far the hardest NM fight compared to the others. Go to J-9, then I-7(or to make it easier, just hug left from J-9). A flesh type NM called Doomed Pilgrims will pop. This NM can hit pretty hard, so make sure to have everyone heal the tank. This fight is MUCH easier with Ninja and/or Summoner. It is very weak to magic.

Non-NM Headstones

Ice

Location: Fei'Yin
Go to G-9 to head downstairs, then head to I-5 to enter the Cloister of Frost, the headstone is right behind the crystal.

Alternate Ice Method: If you have a level 15+ Summoner and sufficient fame for a mini-tuning fork of Ice from Northern San d'Oria, you can instantly warp to the Ice headstone, skipping Fei'Yin entirely, and then use a warp scroll/spell *or* defeat the low level avatar *or* suicide warp to get home.

Water

Location: La Theine Plateau
Enter the canyon in F-6 from the east side and go down to enter Ordelle's Caves at F-7. Make a left and go to I-6. Then head to H-9. After climbing all the way up, go to H-12 and drop down the hole. Then go to I-11. After the map change, exit at G-10 to La Theine Plateau. The headstone is at G-11.

Earth

Location: Quicksand Caves
Enter Quicksand Caves from Western Altepa Desert at J-9. Once inside, go to K-6 and drop down the hole and exit to Western Altepa Desert. Go to H-9 in Western Altepa Desert to find the headstone.

Upon finishing this mission, you will receive the message: You now have all 8 fragments of light!

Well, at least for the Ifrit's Cauldron/Yuhtunga Jungle part. Take a decent party of six only (for even with the most competent players, any more and someone's bound to lost their sneak, get aggro and let a bomb to blow up in your face), and reach the exit to the jungle where the Cermet Headstone lies. Then have any others who want the fragment wait for you in Kazham, change to a Lv.1 job or be willing to lose some EXP to a Raise II/III, and Tractor them over the little ledge at K-7. Trust me, it's a lot less painful this way.

What this guy typed is gold! Only after running around in Ifrit's Cauldron for 4 hours dieing and delvling did we find the exit to Yuhtunga. Once we were they we found an area where we could of just bloodwarped and tractored insteaded of waiting a LOT of time. All you need to do is send one mage through that knows the way and have everyone else bit the bullet and take a R2. Trust me, if you don't have a map, you'll die alot more than once tring to complete this part of the quest.
Question.

Would the death + reraise trick work for this mission?

For instance, could I take a low level job with Reraise to the NM headstones, pop the NM, die, once they despawn Reraise and touch the momument? Or do they have a quick respawn time?

Thank you.
so ?

Just a quick note:

This is not an available option is you have won the mini-tuning fork of Ice fight avatar fight.

Wrong. Yes, you CAN go back through the teleportation.

1) If you WON the fight, and still have your Mini Tuning Fork of <element>, you can still Trade it to the appropriate NPC to be teleported as a SMN to there. However, due note, you are still only able to get teleported once every RL day (or until Japan day turnover depending on your timezone, so it's possible to do two same fights in one of your real days, I've done this).

2) If you WON, however, tossed your mini tuning fork, you CAN get it back, just talk to the NPC and you will be given the option to get the fork back. However, if you LOST the fight and tossed your fork (why you wouldn't I don't know), I'm fairly certain you can NOT get another.

So yes, it is possible, I'm going to do this on my SMN just so I can avoid trecking out to freakin Fei'Yin =p
#REDACTED, Posted: May 10 2005 at 1:08 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) That's funny cause i beat the avatars over a month ago. Tried to warp to Fei'yin to hit that headstone for ZM just by getting warped by the SMN Npc and it wouldn't work. Yes i got a new mini-fork, yes i tried trading it (to BOTH npc's), and it's been over a month so no i haven't fought it recently. Kept talking to tem they kept saying the same thing, and i'ma Hero in Sandy. So idk what u did.... but i had to trek to fey'in on foot, they wouldn't let me go as a 40 Smn.

If you LOSE the battle and toss the fork you CAN get it back - I did it with Shiva and Ramuh. I started tossing my forks after the fights and just getting a new one when I went to fight again. The option is something like "My dog ate my tuning fork." Select it and the NPC will scold you. "You don't need to use that excuse with me, missy. If you need another Mini Tuning Fork of ___, just ask", receive another fork and proceed as usual.

Are you sure you don't have them confused? ^^ I talked to the Rabao NPC for Garuda after I defeated her, and she sounded amazed, the Tarutaru made some comment, and that was all.

This mission is a cakewalk if you bring enough people to the NM fights, but I must warn you of the nightmares of Ifrit's Cauldron.

I would strongly recommend no more than 12 people for the Ifrit's Cauldron part of the mission. The reason? People get lost. And then people die.

Very few people have the map to this zone, and as such it is critical to consult the maps either at lonely vana'diel or at KI (who took LV's maps without crediting them. -_-;) as you make your way through the volcano.

Do not ever let yourself get separated from the group leader, who should be leading the way the whole time. 2 essential points.

1) Everyone crosses the flame spouts at the same time. Even if you trade an ice cluster to the spout to make it subside, it can return within seconds. Just make everyone run through together.

2) EVERYONE BRINGS THEIR OWN OIL/POWDER. NO EXCEPTIONS. Everyone should bring at least a stack of each, no matter how many mages are in the group. Don't let anybody come along who isn't willing to bring their own oil and powder for the trip. I burned about 8 each because people kept getting lost and dying, and I'm a white mage.

The mobs you run into in the early part of the maps con decent challenge to tough to a level 70 character, so don't get cavalier about fighting things on the way there. Bombs pretty much immediately self-destruct if there are 18 people hitting it.

Trading a Garnet to the headstone in Yuhtunga Jungle gets you the Opo-Opo Necklace. -_-;

'Monkey Necklace' and the Ash Dragon warning make it obvious submitters are again outright ripping these descriptions from the Mysterytour descriptions. At least check the facts and spelling before submitting. :(

Well, they managed to get it mixed up that La Theine is Water and Cape Terrigan is wind, so at least they tried to alter it. Even if they did make it worse. -_-

True, it's probably ripped from Mysterytour, but there is an Ash Dragon on the way to the Ifrit headstone..

Not all too hard to sneak by the Ash Dragon but if you choose to try engaging the ash dragon your probably going to be doomed. Nasty dragon's whole dispelga **** while you have bombs wandering over to you over and over again and the stupid dragon is drawing in people mixing them up.

Make sure you actually get the key items for each headstone. You have to be really close to the ??? to get the item. Make sure you see. Obtained XXX.

A few LS members came a long for the raid and at z8 (bcnm fightin in quicksand caves) found out they were missing a few stones.
