Did this fight today with me (66 pld), 69 rng, 66 whm, 65 rdm, 71 brd, 72 bst. We won and the fight lasted 9 minutes 6 seconds. This was an extremely fun fight. I had to use my 2 hour and the rdm used chainspell. No other two hours were used. The bst used a HQ tiger pet for the fight. He liked to use dispelga, in fact I think he did it 5 times. It does reset hate so watch out like others mentioned. The rng was our only casualty who solod a sidewinder after the dispelga AoE and bit the dust with the dude's ws before I got hate back (1-shotted).

We did this fight the other night. Wasn't too hard. Party setup was 74 ninja, 62 Rdm, 62 Pld, 65 Sam, 67 Mnk, 75 Rdm. No one used their 2 hour besides the Sam who started the fight with it. No one died and it took around 9 minutes.

Completed this mission with a party of 68's. Monk, Paladin, Samurai, White Mage, Black Mage, and Bard. Things got as little hairy at the end, and everyone used 2hrs, but it is doable

66 NIN, 66 THF, 63 BRD, 71 RNG, 67 WHM, 67 NIN. We got owned twice -_- First fight we almost took him out, the THF was tanking him at the end with Perfect Dodge since the rest of us were dead, until it wore off, then he bit the dirt, and then the taru bard was left standing there. Light Blade. Dead Taru. I hate this guy more than anything, more than genkai 1-5 combined. I lost so much EXP yesterday fighting this fool, god.. this game is hard sometimes.

MIN lv for zm8 is at least 70, anything lower will have a small chance of surviving, as formentioned joe.

69 is pushing it, but its doable.

You know, I just recently beat this fight. We had a 63blm, 65blm(me), a 67 and 2 68s that were War, Rdm, and Mnk(can't remember which was which level), and a 70whm. It was hard, but I was the only one to die. Under 70 really can do this with a decent strategy.

This is one of my favourite fights in the game so far. Try to form a regular PT with a PLD tank. As soon as battle begins make get tank to pull NM to the corner and mages stand on the stairs. Get everyone to fight as usual. He does dispelga so watch out for that. His WS resets hate, so make sure blm's dont nuke and/or meele use there WS until pld has gotten hate back. Other than that, pretty straight forward. Make sure mages bring silent potions, pld to.

To tell you is a bit of a spoiler. Suffice it to say you fight one mob, and it has a ton of hit points, powerful en-spells and an unpleasant tendency to reset hate.

Better to get there yourself. You get a pretty strong hint about who you fight here if you finish the first ZM cutscene.

I did it twice yesterday, once with some random people and again for my ls. First time had a 74 PLD, second time had a 67 PLD. Light Blade's damage didn't do 75%. On the 74 PLD it'd drop him into low yellow hp or high gold(orange, or whatever you prefer). On the 67 PLD it dropped him from full hp to like 268 hp. Neither case was 75%. Oh, not to mention that we had a 75 SMN who helped with both fights and Light Blade 1-hit killed Garuda multiple times both fights. Kinda funny to watch, cuz after Great Wheel, the SMN would make Garuda do Predator Claws, and Garuda would tank 'til Light Blade got her. Helped a lot when we had the 67 PLD. So I do highly recommend a SMN for this fight. Yeah...I'm done ranting...

This is one of the greatest battles in the game. We had 72pld, 68drk, 69whm, 68rdm(me),74brd, 68blm. We owned this boss. No one got in the yellow and our pld keep a good job holding hate even when hate was reset. Magic did run low, due to its huge HP pool.

Our plan was keep mages on the stairs while dd and tank keeped boss away. When hate is reset, make sure the mages stop any casting until tank has hate again. Mages will need to bring a few echo drops.

His Light Blade did 950 dmg on my 1063 HP thf, so its highly not likely to be a 75% hp attack
Elemental Weakness
# Aug 23 2004 at 7:59 AM Rating: Decent
Mages need to pay attention to which en- spell he is casting. If you cast the same element of spell as his current en- buff, you will heal him. Neutral elements will do about half damage, and the opposing element will do full damage. So if he uses Enfire, nuke with Water, etc.

There's a bit of a mistake in here. The very heavy damage single target attack he does, called Light Blade, is mentioned as theoretically doing a straight 75% of your HP in damage; I can attest that this is wrong. It is simply a very large amount of damage, usually 7-800 in my experience. I know this because he hit me for 819 with it, killing me, after a particularly untimely use of his hate-reseting move, Great Wheel. Good luck to everyone who tries this fight!

Get mages to stand on the top of the stairs near the enterance. Get tank to pull NM into the corner of the battle area. Remember to bring potions for extra mp, cuz you might need them. Becareful with his WS, because it resets hate so don't use your own WS until tank has control back.

about the fight

this is a pretty hard fight, my party of mostly 69's [except for myself who was only level 60] at the time got owned our first try, but beat him our second try with a 75 drk and hi potions/ethers~ but 3 people died. we did it once more after that (for the brd we subbed out) and beat it with no problems.
for the white mage~ you really can't rest this fight, his physical attack does a few 100 damage, and if he gets a critical hit, or uses a weapon skill, your tank may very well be in red HP. he attacks pretty slow, so i'd say its easier with blink tankers, but he uses dispelga, which might be troublesome as it will kill utsusemi...

also as a mage you really need to watch what he is doing!! if he uses great wheel all hate is reset, so DONT get the first cure after that or you are wasted, this is how we had deaths, our blm nuked after this attack and didnt know he would get hate~ it didnt take much to bring that taru down.

This fight is very hard, definitely the hardest of the pre-Tu'lia missions.

The main hard thing about this fight is holding aggro. It is extremely difficult for a PLD to hold hate in this fight. I strongly recommend having a back-up tank capable of dodging his hate-reseting attack (someone with NIN or SAM as main or sub). The boss' attacks hit very hard (mostly from his En-spells), but fortunately he attacks pretty slowly. The other main pain is that he has INCREDIBLY high defense, both physical and magic.

I did this fight with: 73PLD, 68DRK, 68WHM, 67RDM, 65SAM, 65BLM and we barely won. We all had to use our 2hrs (yes, even Chainspell got used), and only the BLM, RDM and DRK survived (DRK saved the fight with a SA-Spinning Slash at the end).
