Summary

Go to Mhaura and meet Koh Lenbalalako. It is said that she knows the whereabouts of the sinner's daughter.

Walkthrough

Note: You must have completed Sin Hunting - RNG AF1 to get this quest.

Talk to Perih Vashai at K-7 in Windurst Woods for a cutscene. Next, head to Mhaura and talk to Koh Lenbalalako at F-9 in the Blacksmith's Guild. You will receive another cutscene.

Next, head to the Eldieme Necropolis. Upon entering, you get another cutscene in which the Mithra Tracker wants you to go ahead of her and "clear the way" to the tombstone (southernmost G-9 of 4 chambers in the Eldieme Necropolis area accessible from I-10 in Batallia Downs.) Find the tombstone and examine it for another cutscene.

Return to Windurst and talk again with Perih Vashai for another cutscene.

Next, head to Castle Oztroja. Make your way past the large doorway controlled by the four switches. Proceed through the tunnel and up the stairs until you reach the large room with the fountain. Run into the pool around the fountain. When all yagudos have turned away, use scavange and camouflage, then run back out into the hallway. Repeat this until you receive the item Old Earring.

Return to Perih Vashai in Windurst. After the final cutscene, you will receive your Hunter's Beret.

you can solo this at 51 but it's tough. i went as a rng/whm for free sneak/invis. Eldieme Necropolis i got lucky with someone playing with switches but i ran into trouble in Castle Oztroja i got to the gate decided to pull one of the yags and about 10 seconds later one came up from behind me. i used sleep arrows at that point and the situation was good thanks to a divine seal cure 3 and a regen but then another came up from behind and i went for my scroll of warp too late and ended up dead at the mog house in upper jeuno :\ fortunatly i got a raise 3 so i lost like no exp and went back. i got to the trap door again and saw a bunch of yags thought hmm thats a lot more than last time and i see Kingofavondales evasion skill rises .3 and about 10 seconds later i'm dead again. someone tried zoning a inquisitor and well it got me so i waited there dead got a raise and went on my way. i get back to the door and pulled the ep yag killed it easy and then the dc yag hurt a bit more damn utsusemi: ni when i finally got to the pool the biggest challenge was sneak wearing off waiting for the yags to turn away. took me 3 or 4 trys to get it. it's all down hill once you reach the pool and make sure you have a warp or good luck getting back out but yay got my hat now i just need 3 more levels to actually use it :\

I hate this ******* game. I just scavenged 12 times for it tonight and nothing. I loaded up on Oil and Powder, and was very careful, but when I got there there were some lv 75's fishing there. I thought, "cool, if the crap goes down, they might jump in and help me out. WRONG. There was a damned THF running around, and he brought a few hundred birds with him, then used "Hide." Now I was ok, for I was invisible, and the birds began to leave, except ONE. Now I wasn't in the pool, but a 50 PLD was. he caught aggro from a parasite, and it brought it's friends, he died right in front of me, cuz when you are getting hit, apparently you run around frantically trying to kill whoever is near you. So, my sneak wears off, i cant use oil because one bird is still there, right beside me, and the parasites beat the **** out of me. LV 75s(around 6) hung around and watched me die. That isn't what pisses me off though, its the goddamned randomness of the scavenge. I would have gladly died if I had gotten the sodding earring, but NOOOOOOO, I go 12 times and nothing, wasted quite a bit of oils and powders to get there, with nothing to show for it^^. Anyone know what level I can safely go there and NOT catch aggro? My lv 60 LS friends seemed to have no problems, so is that a good level? If so, ***** this hat, I will keep my hairpin till I can solo this.

Or do I have to be ranger in eldimine necropolis?
Wrong Quest Name
# Oct 11 2004 at 1:28 AM Rating: Decent
Yes you can get this quest as a Level 50 Ranger, I just got it now actually.

And the title of the quest is wrong. It's not called a Trial by Fire, it's called Fire and Brimstone.

I tried to find the old earring on my own. I went to the top of the castle as told, and found a lake where I used Scavenge, roughly 20 times before finally getting aggroed and killed.

So, go to the correct pond. After going up to the second floor, head to the (West?) most exit of the second floor. I see know way around fighting the two Yagudo that aggro there as you have to drop invisible to operate the four triggers until the door opens. Pull one and just alternate Sleep Bolt/Bolt until it drops and use Bloody Bolts as needed. Repeat for the second Yagudo.

After passing through the door, recast invisible, run up the stairs and you will see the lake. The guide does a good job explaining Sneak/Invisible----Wait----Wait More----BACKS TURNED/Scavenge/Camo so I won't dig too much into that. What I will say is that Camo has a random length from 0 to 180 and sometimes it will wear off before the effect sticks, so start casting Invisible immediately after using Camo. Don't worry, you can be standing right in their face when you cast Invisible and they won't aggro.

It took me seven scavenges to find the Old Earring. I had two cast Invisible at least twice between Scavenge Recast timer, and at least one sneak per scavenge. If you are not WHM at a MINIMUM you need Two Stacks of Prism Powder and a Stack of Silent Oil. I would recommend even more silent oil since the Yagudo don't always cooperate. You really don't want to have to open that door again anyways...

It's probably the same as all the other titles, Paragon of Ranger Excellence or something.

Meh... I'd send a correction but I already sent a *much* more detailed breakdown of this quest before :P Would still like to know what the title was that was granted by it as I never saw it before I replaced it with a different one (darned Discerning Individual that I am) >:-P

edit: nvm... correction posted >:-P

Zone and Re-zone after completing AF1 and I know you can receive this quest at Lvl 50. I just activated it moments ago and I am still trying to get the Ancient Papyrus for Limit Break 1.

Very Detailed RNG AF Info:
