Battle Notes

To begin, trade 20 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Cloudy Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Horlais Peak zone located in the Yughott Grotto dungeon.

Be advised that only three players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 20, and that there is a 15 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, you will find a large Sniper Pugil flanked on either side by a smaller Archer Pugil. The Archer Pugils have less hp and are generally weaker defensively and offensively than the Sniper Pugil.

  • Neither the Sniper Pugil nor the Archer Pugils perform any tp attacks, as their attack repetoire consists of ranged water based attacks with a powerful knockback effect.

In order to spawn the armoury crate, all mobs in the battlefield must be defeated in the allotted time.

Battle Strategies

The most common strategies for winning this BCNM involves one or more Summoners, the Ramuh avatar, and the Astral Flow two-hour ability.

Solo Method

The first method involves one summoner soloing the BCNM (Preferably on Lightningday and not on Watersday), and is decidedly more difficult than a two summoner method. Upon entering the BCNM, run up the pathway until you are in visual range of the pugils, while making sure to stay outside of their aggro range. After buffing up, use a Yagudo drink and then summon Ramuh.

  • Because Ramuh is a Thunder based avatar, he is strongly resistant to the Water based attacks of the pugils, and his Judgment Bolt bloodpact is especially powerful against them.

After summoning Ramuh, activate Astral Flow and have Ramuh assault the Sniper Pugil. As soon as Ramuh strikes the pugil, have Ramuh use Judgment Bolt and then use an Ether to restore your mp. Then retreat Ramuh and run towards the exit until just prior to the recast time of your Bloodpact Rage resets, in which case have Ramuh re-assault the Sniper Pugil and have him use Judgment Bolt again. If all goes well, the two Archer Pugils will be killed by the second attack and the Sniper Pugil will have very little hp left. At this time, retreat Ramuh again and kite the pugil back up the hill until the recast timer is up, then have Ramuh assault again and use one last Judgment Bolt (or Thunderspark) to finish off the Sniper Pugil.

Duo Method #1

This duo method involves two summoners and is noticeably easier than the solo method. Upon entering the BCNM, run up the pathway until you are in visual range of the pugils, while making sure to stay outside of their aggro range. After buffing up and using Yagudo Drinks, both summoners will then summon Ramuh.

After summoning Ramuh, both summoners will activate Astral Flow and then have their Ramuhs assault the Sniper Pugil. After they both strike the pugil, have the Ramuhs use their Judgment Bolts, killing off the two Archer Pugils and severely weakening the Sniper Pugil. At this time, pop an Ether and wait till the Bloodpact recast timers reset, then finish off the Sniper Pugil with another Judgment Bolt or a Thunderspark.

Duo Method #2

This method is similar to the first, but with notable exceptions. Unlike the first method, only one summoner will use their Astral Flow, while the other just uses Thunderspark. Upon entering the BCNM, run up the pathway until you are in visual range of the pugils, while making sure to stay outside of their aggro range. After buffing up and using Yagudo Drinks, both summoners will then summon Ramuh.

After summoning Ramuh, one of the summoners will activate Astral Flow, then both will have their avatars assault the Sniper Pugil. The Astral Flow summoner will have Ramuh use Judgment Bolt while the other summoner will have Ramuh use Thunderspark, leaving all three pugils below 50% HP and paralyzed due to Thunderspark's additional Paralysis effect. The Astral Flow summoner will then pop an Ether and, once the Bloodpact recast timer has reset, will use Judgment Bolt again. At this time, if the Sniper Pugil is still alive, the other summoner can finish it off with a bloodpact or just allow the Ramuhs to melee its last bit of HP.

In order to get the Cloudy Orb, you need to trade 20 Beastmen's Seals.

To actually enter the fight, you have to be whatever level you can take through Yughott Grotto, alive, to get to Horlais Peak. The level cap for the BCNM is 20, so all gear over lvl 20 will be automatically removed once you trade the Cloudy Orb to the Burning Circle.

I highly doubt that your set up will work. The warrior would have to hold hate on all three pugs for the duration of the battle, and with the knock back effect from the pugs attack it would make things very difficult. Another thing to mention is that a BLM would not be as helpful at nuking b/c they would not have Thunder at that level which is the pugs weakness.

As previously mentioned in these posts, SMN is probably your best bet for taking on this BCNM. I would suggest bringing along another player, preferably a PLD/WAR, who can hold hate on the three pugils until you have time to recast your 2hr bloodpact. The one time I tried this BCNM, I went in solo and died because two of the pugs came after me instead of my avatar while I was waiting for my Bloodpact to recharge. Good Luck!

I'm guessing you can get any colour of rock from this BCNM (from previous posts) and wondering if it's like mining - the colour depends on the element of the day you fight on?

I actually wondered about this as well, as it would seem logical that this would be the case.

However, my last fight, on Lightsday, yielded a red rock, so I'm fairly definite the colour and elemental day of the week are unrelated.

Solo'd it today. Just remember to use Barwatera.... the darn sniping attacks hit hard...

But you don't have to worry about standing next to Ramuh when you use your 2-hour, cuz' they stay perfectly still trying to snipe you. Ramuh should take out the Archer Pugils after 2 Judgement's, and a third one will finish the Sniper, or you can just melee it to death.

Drops, I got Blaze Spikes, Mannequin Head (which I Heard is guaranteed, sold it for 250k) and a... green rock? What am I supposed to do with that?

Thanks for the feedback, thats why I record my battles, so I can watch and review each little mistake and make myself better for next time. If I could have done this back when I was solo'ing the primes, I probably would have saved half my frustration... oh well. I actually have three video's. In two of them I have no choice but to retreat ramuh... in the other, I just smoke all 3 pugils with a single Ramuh. ^^

I can honestly say, that the closer to the pinacle of a moon cycle (new or full), the less time Ramuh lasts in battle, even on Lightningsday. I know new moon for sure, but I can't verify full moon as I'll never try it. I did the single Ramuh battle on 52% moon, so I'm sticking with anywhere between 40%-60% moon.

all three url's:

www.angelicknights.com/media/video/Nebz_bcnm20.avi (24,129 KB)

And just for kicks and giggles, here's a duo video of me and my LS mate breaking the old record:

I use FRAPS... a video recording software app. I believe the trial version will allow for 60 seconds of video capture and take screenshots... I did purchase the full version for something like $30-$40 (can't remember anymore, but it's money long since spent) and I've made use of FRAPS quite extensively... I'd say it's paid for itself already.

Can you do this without a SMN or a BST? I'm a DRK, and I have a WHM/BLM(or BLM/WHM) friend I want to try this with. I'm a DRK, and I am unsure of who I want to be the third wheel. Is it possible for a DRK/WAR, WHM/BLM(Or BLM/WHM), And a THF/WAR to do this one?
RE: SMN
# Feb 25 2005 at 9:31 PM Rating: Default
hmmm that sounds like a bad combo for this... might want to pick a different job and level it just for the sake of the bcnm. If you're going to do a party battle, you'll need a healer. You don't really want a tank as he'll be flying all over the place and probably won't get too many hits in. I understand that two rangers and a blm/whm can do this fairly decently. blm sleeps the sniper while the rangers take out an archer each... Personally, I'm just glad I have smn and ramuh so I don't have to worry about anything... including splitting the profits.

I've been doing this all day with my nin friend and myself as smn/rdm (although thinking of switching to smn/blm or /whm). Really easy. Just three meds needed really... a Hi-Ether, a Yag drink, and a Hi-Potion for insurance. Somewhere in the vicinity of 4.7k worth of meds. We get up to the peak, she uses her food and I trade orb. I cast protect on us both inside, we both run up, use Yag Drink whilst spamming Ramuh macro on myself to summon the instant drink gets.. drunk. I get close enough to Assault the fish with Ramuh, 2hr, Judgment Bolt, then run back to grassy area. There I stay far enough to still sorta see Ramuh's hp while I use a Hi-Ether. At this point I either keep checking for bloodpact to be ready or spam Ramuh on myself in case he dies... Usually around this time either Ramuh kills one of the fish or one of the fish kills Ramuh... either way, 2 fish run at me. I recast Ramuh and Judgment Bolt... end of story. Easiest BCNM in my experience with BCNM's, probably only seconded by the one with the three treasure chests/mimic.
maybe?

I sold mine the same day I did the BCNM for 250k while passing through Jeuno. Maybe I just got lucky.

EDIT: Next day, did this BCNM again and sold the head for 250K overnight bazaarin in Jeuno. Not having as good of luck selling my third, but definitely can't complain since it's only been 2 days.

I usually sell my heads for ~80k. This way I'm not underpricing them too much... but at the same time I'll actually sell it rather than running around for 3 or 4 months with a mannequin in my bazaar for 120k. That extra 40k does make that much difference... 3 or 4 months (@120k) vs 3 or 4 weeks (@80k).

Then when I sell the mannequin head, I can go solo another one with my smn and get another head.

Its extremely simple with 2 ramuhs and 2hr. killed off both side pugils and middle to 5% health and we melee'd the heck out of it :P Only hard part was not dying through Yughott Grotto (we were both Lv25)

I've made so much gil off this BCNM. 600k so far. 2 smns are best. sure we can solo it but with 2 smns it's much safer and faster and more fun. and if you do it right you can do it twice every 2 hrs. or if you wanna do what we do and break the record every time just blast them away with judgement bolt ^^ got record down to 2:18, goin to beat it tomorrow. sold 3 thunder pacts, 5 heads and a body. plus little things like warp scroll, platoon weapons and those darn shall shells and little stuff. well, good luck ^^

I'm going to try for it later tonight with a smn friend, i just hit 20 with my smn, now my question is could this be done with three smn without using 2 hours, and only using thunderspark? I was wondering about this because you could keep doing this until you ran out of seals, rather than having to wait every 2 hours.

you make a good point, but i have discovered what prevents us from doing exactly that. it seems that the range of Thunderspark and the range of Judgment Bolt are different. thunderspark hardly ever hits more than the center pugil for me, and doesn't do enough damage to make it worth while. if given time and the range to hit all 3, then ya, it's probably possible, or maybe if you each took your own pugil. but it's highly unlikely, dangerous, and quite frankly, not as much fun lol. but by all means, do try on your own, as i only speak for observations not actual experience with the method. i only advize that you have your astral flow rdy just in case it's not as effective as you wished. take care and happy hunting.

We had a terrible time with this one 2 of us died but of course the SMN lived and finished it. Our setup was

War/Whm (me) Hume
Pld/War Elvaan
Smn/Whm (galka) lol had 2xastral rings tho

We started out just watching while our SMN ran up there to use judgement bolt. Did his deal 2hr'd drank his drink and used hi-ether, when he used it again he only hit the sniper not all 3. They were spread out after the Pld voked it off the Smn when he was in the red. Pld sacraficed himself and was able to keep the Smn alive. Smn resummoned ramuh while i went after the other one. I 2 hr'd hit the one that was stuck on me. 1 hit to go before it dies. I run up and right when I raise weapon it smokes me. Smn manages to finish them off and we win. Sucks that I lvl'd down tho...

Furychaos
Leviathan
29 War, 18 Whm, 16 Drg
All that and rank5 before trial ended....2 brothers.
