Battle Notes

To begin, trade 20 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Cloudy Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Horlais Peak zone located in the Yughott Grotto dungeon.

Be advised that only three players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 20, and that there is a 15 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, you will find a large Sniper Pugil flanked on either side by a smaller Archer Pugil. The Archer Pugils have less hp and are generally weaker defensively and offensively than the Sniper Pugil.

  • Neither the Sniper Pugil nor the Archer Pugils perform any tp attacks, as their attack repetoire consists of ranged water based attacks with a powerful knockback effect.

In order to spawn the armoury crate, all mobs in the battlefield must be defeated in the allotted time.

Battle Strategies

The most common strategies for winning this BCNM involves one or more Summoners, the Ramuh avatar, and the Astral Flow two-hour ability.

Solo Method

The first method involves one summoner soloing the BCNM (Preferably on Lightningday and not on Watersday), and is decidedly more difficult than a two summoner method. Upon entering the BCNM, run up the pathway until you are in visual range of the pugils, while making sure to stay outside of their aggro range. After buffing up, use a Yagudo drink and then summon Ramuh.

  • Because Ramuh is a Thunder based avatar, he is strongly resistant to the Water based attacks of the pugils, and his Judgment Bolt bloodpact is especially powerful against them.

After summoning Ramuh, activate Astral Flow and have Ramuh assault the Sniper Pugil. As soon as Ramuh strikes the pugil, have Ramuh use Judgment Bolt and then use an Ether to restore your mp. Then retreat Ramuh and run towards the exit until just prior to the recast time of your Bloodpact Rage resets, in which case have Ramuh re-assault the Sniper Pugil and have him use Judgment Bolt again. If all goes well, the two Archer Pugils will be killed by the second attack and the Sniper Pugil will have very little hp left. At this time, retreat Ramuh again and kite the pugil back up the hill until the recast timer is up, then have Ramuh assault again and use one last Judgment Bolt (or Thunderspark) to finish off the Sniper Pugil.

Duo Method #1

This duo method involves two summoners and is noticeably easier than the solo method. Upon entering the BCNM, run up the pathway until you are in visual range of the pugils, while making sure to stay outside of their aggro range. After buffing up and using Yagudo Drinks, both summoners will then summon Ramuh.

After summoning Ramuh, both summoners will activate Astral Flow and then have their Ramuhs assault the Sniper Pugil. After they both strike the pugil, have the Ramuhs use their Judgment Bolts, killing off the two Archer Pugils and severely weakening the Sniper Pugil. At this time, pop an Ether and wait till the Bloodpact recast timers reset, then finish off the Sniper Pugil with another Judgment Bolt or a Thunderspark.

Duo Method #2

This method is similar to the first, but with notable exceptions. Unlike the first method, only one summoner will use their Astral Flow, while the other just uses Thunderspark. Upon entering the BCNM, run up the pathway until you are in visual range of the pugils, while making sure to stay outside of their aggro range. After buffing up and using Yagudo Drinks, both summoners will then summon Ramuh.

After summoning Ramuh, one of the summoners will activate Astral Flow, then both will have their avatars assault the Sniper Pugil. The Astral Flow summoner will have Ramuh use Judgment Bolt while the other summoner will have Ramuh use Thunderspark, leaving all three pugils below 50% HP and paralyzed due to Thunderspark's additional Paralysis effect. The Astral Flow summoner will then pop an Ether and, once the Bloodpact recast timer has reset, will use Judgment Bolt again. At this time, if the Sniper Pugil is still alive, the other summoner can finish it off with a bloodpact or just allow the Ramuhs to melee its last bit of HP.

Ok, all I've seen here is how this BCNM is done with SMNs on your pty, so I decided to share the strategy I used w/o using SMNs on the party.
Went in with RNG/WAR(me), PLD/WAR, WHM/BLM.
After buffing up at the entrance went in and PLD took all hate from 3 of them, chose 1 before hand and started tring to melee it, I stayed against the wall shooting arrows to the same one that PLD was hitting (he was having a lot of trouble hitting it bacause each shoot of the pugils sends u flying away, but it's possible, he even managed to hit one with Fast Blade), ok our WHM did a stupid thing as diaing one of the fishes at the start of the fight and got killed in an instant, but we still managed to win.
With the pld trying to keep alive with cures and hi/pots since whm died, i was just shooting all i had, i got hate too so be sure to take pots as well. When we had just 1 more to kill PLD died, i got EES out and won.
Didnt get too many got drops, just the mannequin part, but it was very fun fight, used about 10 pots me and pld and regen juices, guess it could have been less if our WHM wasnt noob and got killed first second of the fight.
What Happened 'To Ramuh
# Feb 26 2006 at 3:02 PM Rating: Decent
I tried solo'n this and started off the usual way. run up right before aggro area and summon, use Yag drink, 2hr and send in Ramuh got off first Judgement Bolt and used ether. NOw this is where it confused me before I could turn to run back, Ramuh dissappears, pugils aggro me and I die. I hp back to Jeuno and check log. Ramuh was hit for a total of 16hp's that's all and I thought that maybe I sent him away by hitting wrong macro. but that wasn't the case, no where in log that shows I sent him away. WHAT THE ???? HAPPENED TO RAMUH? Can someone explain.

You didn't take the yag soon enough is what happened. It's happened to me before too. You gotta take it before you 2 hour.
RE: What Happened 'To Ramuh
# Mar 25 2006 at 9:05 AM Rating: Default
I think that if Ramuah de-poped from zero mp, it must have been a fluke. using yag drink means u ALWAYS have mp so unless its a rare flaw the only reason i can see is if, a) u didnt actually use yag drink, b) u managed to click off the refresh, or c) SE was showing its hate for all mages and was just a random act of unfairness. IMO

btw 17 petras in bllisata with 10 mp lvl 30 blm, 10 petras in a row, SE hates my BLM >.<

hmm.... i'll start off by saying my SMN is only lvl 10 so i might not have this fully correct. But if you pull Ramuh out and then use your 2 hr is it possible that you completely ran out of MP before you were able to use the ether? thus causing Ramuh to go away without any sort of message or being killed

This is exactly what happened. When Astral Flow is active, avatar perpetuation cost is reduced to zero. However, if you have zero MP when the perpetuation tick comes up, your avatar will still disappear. When SMN gets auto-refresh at 25, this isn't a problem anymore since you always have that 1mp/tick. Since this fight is capped at level 20 before you get auto-refresh, you have to use some kind of juice to give yourself a refresh effect to prevent your avatar from vanishing.

He said he used a yag drink, so he still should have had the 1 MP tick after he used Astral Flow.
I'm inclined to agree with Stranderer.

He may have used a yag drink but what could of happened is that the yag drink wore off, so what I think he should of done is use the yag drink a second before he used astral flow

smn/whm solo
I have done this bcnm naked and still come out victorious. 2 ethers and 2 yag drinks just to be safe and 2 hour helps to go on lightningsday, too.
Go in close to mob barwatera, summon, yag drink, astral flow engage sniper pugil with ramuh, spam judgement bolt quickly and procede to run back past bridge and down hill. pop ur first ether and wait for ramuh to die, and resummon while waiting for pugs to come for u.
Here is tricky part as soon as ramuh engages sniper run and spam judgement bolt if u dont do this right aoe will not kill archers, and thus lead to quick death due to ranged attack.

I attempted to solo this for fun. Went on Darksday (didn't wanna wait for lightning). I had decent gear (baron stuff). I took a yag drink and 2x ether. Walked up to the mobs just outside aggro range, summoned Ramuh, used Astral Flow, popped yag drink, and Assaulted the main fish. The other 2 linked and I fired off my first Judgement Bolt. All 3 mobs took about 320 damage. I was under the impression the first JB was supposed to kill the lesser mobs ><. Barely brought them under 1/2 HP. I ran back down, waited for Ramuh to die, which he did quickly ><. I popped an ether hurriedly and resummoned him. However, instead of him having hate, I did.. all the mobs used their ranged waterball attack on me, 3x 70 damage. Very short and unsuccessful BCNM. Aside from not going on Lightningday, what went wrong? Also, don't wear astral rings for this fight >< Pretty sure I would have lived at least another 15 secs with that extra 25 HP. I still don't get why I had hate, I had Ramuh out by the time the mobs got to me. Weird.

You waited for ramuh to die before using the Ether, that gives you hate, that's why you died.
You need to pop ether right after 2hr, so that the avatar still has hate

Also, try to run far enough so that you can't see your avatar's HP, when you're that far, whatever you do will be hateless. (You wont lose aggro though, they'll still come after you, but what you do wont add hate)
RE: Ouch
# Jun 22 2006 at 7:02 AM Rating: Decent
Hate range differs per mob per level, but what i learned from being a bst and casting or healing near aggro mobs is that when the red dots that represent the mobs are outside of the main circle of ur radar u are safe from hate gain. Same goes for pet/avatar commands that generate hate.

That is well within the range for u to still see ur Avatar's health bar.

By this i dont mean sound based creatures aggro always when they are inside the circle. That is something else and for u to learn and experiment with.

What if you want to try without a summoner, is there a strat that doesn't use a summoner or hasn't anyone tried?

I ended up being helped by a Japanese 63 BRD who didn't even know how to use the Auto-Translate fucntion (the word 'Character Buyer' comes to mind, hm..?) and she got me killed twice via MPK >.<

Anyways, i nearly killed this thing, but i made a fatal mistake... I forgot to {Run Away!} after first Astral Flow... >.<

Finally decided to try the time-attack mode again. Additionally, I now have the best possible INT-boosting gear for level 20 at my disposal, thanks to me waiting to level my red mage until after I'd aquired decent gil from other jobs. With the same old macro set I'd used to get 2:15 and the ability to now kill all 3 pugs with the 2nd astral flow, I was able to shave my solo time to 2:13. Even at 2:13, I made a few mistakes that could definitely be avoided to save yet more time. I'm thinking that 2:10 is maybe possible if everything goes perfectly.

ok i guess lightnings day is a bad day to solo these guys. i was beyond successful on earthsday and watersday, however, i got my summoning butt completely slaughtered 2x on lightningsday. Ramuh died very quickly. i did almost 400dmg to the archers but only like 150 to the sniper and one time he even evaded my JB. so that being said i strongly urge you not to solo this on lightningsday.

I never do this bcnm any other time BUT lightningsday. I've only lost once, and that was a freak accident....issue with the wrong macro palette being selected. I'm so far 29/30 on this BCNM. SO easy. I don't even bother with ethers anymore. just run in naked with a yag drink and go to town.

If you're having trouble with this BCNM, maybe you're standing too close when you summon, or you don't run back far enough. There's got to be a flaw in your strat, cause it sure as hell isn't the day. Also, I dunno bout you, but I find it's easier to retreat ramuh, rather than resummoning him later. He tanks well enough, I've never had to resummon him due to death (once I started retreating him, that is).

Anyway, keep trying!

Hey I just did this today. It was Lightsday Waning Cresent (not sure if that matters). We went in with 2 SMN (Juliaa, and Pyta), and me a BLM. It was so easy we actually broke the record on the Seraph sever. Took us 3 minutes and 19 seconds. Woot! Anyway the drops were... 500 gil, a Mannequin Body, a Mythril Beastcoin, a Platoon Gun, a Shall Shell, a Scroll of Warp, and a Mannequin Head! Just felt like sharing that with you.. Leveling SMN for BCNM20

I leveled my SMN to 20 just for this BCNM. Getting to the BCNM is not a easy task at 20. I'm listed the levels you need to get there w/o agro.

If you want to reach Yughott Grotto w/o agro you need lvl 26 because the tier 2 orcs & Stealth bats are 17 to 18 in Ghelsba Outpost. Getting to 26 will save you the Prizm Powder to Yughott Grotto, but you will need 29 to save on Silent Oil from Stealth Bats in Yughott Grotto. If you want to reach the BCNM completely w/o agro you must be lvl 30 because tier 3 orcs are lvl 22-23. However this will only save 1 Prizm Powder.

Of course you can solo your way there to but that may take awhile.

Well i tried this on earthday and decided that since the next day was waterday i would try to use shiva because ramuh < earthday. Well they managed to kill shiva in about oh... 2 seconds?

I summoned, astral flowed, used a yag drink (yes im sure of this) and assaulted. Used diamond dust just as shiva hit the middle pug and then she died. No, she didnt get unsummoned because i had 0 MP, she died. Somehow the magic damage done by the pugs must be resisted by ramuh but not shiva so if you are thinking about using her dont >.>

nope... infact, I thought: "Now that I have a mannequin head, and it will drop me a mannequin piece, it should drop me a body."

Sadly, no... I didn't even get any mannequin pieces. If you are in a solo party, and have the rare item that would normally drop, it will just not be dropped. If you're in a PT that is full of all individuals that have said rare item, then the item will go into the pool before it's removed for not meeting requirements on everyone.

From what I've noticed this isn't true. When you are in the dunes solo'ing you can still get the subjob quest items to drop if you are holding them.

Same applies for any key, orcish axe, mandragora bud etc...

It will still drop but it will give you the "You do not meet the requirements..." message and will automatically toss it from your treasure pool. There is 1 exception to this, if you keep a full inventory the item will stay in your treasure pool for the time period that SE produced (somewhere around 5 minutes). In that time you can get someone to join your party and lot on the drop so its not wasted.

Just things I've noticed ^^ GL with this BCNM I'm 1/1 following the instructions posted here ^^ thx alot :)
RE: ...
# Sep 07 2005 at 7:08 PM Rating: Decent
well, kinda...

if you're solo and the mob would have dropped a rare/ex piece that you already have in inventory somewhere... it wouldn't drop it at all and you'd be none the wiser. However! If you're in a party, or solo but still designated as party leader... then a party pool exists and said rare/ex items will still be dropped, inserted into the pool, then distributed to you... upon which time you'd see the message about being unable to obtain the item. You could be in a full 6 person PT, all 6 people have the rare/ex item already... but the item will drop because the game does not restrict item drops based on players inventory when a party treasure pool is available.

I do remember before that you could get the item to drop even if solo and you had one already... but I'm sure they changed it to the system I just mentioned in a patch early on in 2005.

Okay, here's what not to do. Keep in mind that this wasn't my orb, so I was willing to deviate from the normal strategy.

Setup: SMN/WHM x2, WHM/BLM

Strategy: Both SMNs summon Ramuh at the edge of the spiked area and send him after the main pugil. Use Thunderspark on the pugils and just ride it out while the WHM makes sure you don't die.

Why this doesn't work: First and foremost, Thunderspark will not hit all 3 pugils unless you somehow get them to move closer together. Second, Ramuh will die, and when he does, his summoner will not have enough time to get back mp without medicinal assistance before the second Ramuh dies.

Conclusion: Just do it solo using Astral Flow like so many others have posted.

Well what you need to do is run down an summon him just so were you can see Ramuhs HP but if you go down more your cant. After he is dead resummon him and yes you will get but make sure that you drink hi-ether before resummoning. Then your 2 hour should be ready to go and just blast the last two suckers and the other one should be about dead and ramuh can kill him off. Look on my post it tells how to beat it and Gl ^^.

The best strategy is to use 2 hour and immediately use an ether. Then retreat ramuh right away and run all the way back to the entrance. Ramuh won't take a hit the whole time you're running and your 2 hour will be ready again. Since it's the same ramuh you started with he'll have all the hate still and you won't take a single hit.
I'm 2/2 using this strategy

Check the following:
Warp scroll
Cloudy Orb
2 hi-ethers
yag drink
boiled crab (optional)
Marcos

Marcos
I have My Marcos set as the following:

Hi-Ether:
/item “Hi-Ether” <me>

Astral Flow
/ja “Astral Flow” <me>

Judgement Bolt
/pet “Judgment Bolt” <t>

Ramuh:
/ma “Ramuh” <me>

Assault
/pet “Assault” <t>

Those are the only ones I use but you can also use ones for other purposes.

The Fight

In the BCNM head all the way up to the stairs to the spiked circle area. Cast aquaveil, barwater, and protect. Drink a yag drink. Summon Ramuh run into range assault 2 hour then Judgement Bolt right off DO NOT WAIT!!! Then head back some and retreat Ramuh then run. Keep running till your bloodpact is ready and you have enough mp for it (40 mp). Then assult the Sniper Pugil and Judgement Bolt all 3 again. That one should kill the two Archer Pugils. Run away from Ramuh and resummon him when he dies. Just watch Ramuh take the last few swings on the Sniper Pugil and it is over.

Alternate Fight

In the BCNM head all the way up to the stairs to the spiked circle area. Cast aquaveil, barwater, and protect. Drink a yag drink. Summon Ramuh run into range assault 2 hour then Judgement Bolt right off DO NOT WAIT!!! Run back until you can see Ramuh health but if you go down more it disappears. Drink a Hi-Ether. Ok this part is important when Ramuh dies resummon him, then he will automatically go and attack the Sniper Pugil or which ever one you targeted for assult., then mash your Judgement Bolt and it should go off. If you do not do it when they come down the Archer Pugils will start shooting at you. After the 2 hour the Archer Pugils will die. Then run down again until you can see his health and resummon him and do not assault or you will get hate. After that Ramuh should be able to solo the Pugil and if you do use a blood pact to finish the Pugil off.

Exceptions!!!

There might be a time where Ramuh does not die. Don’t worry its ok but you must NOT release him just let him die or releasing him might cause some extra hate. Just do it like normal without the resummoning the first time.

Although I have never seen it there might be a time when the Archer Pugils don’t die. You do it like normal and that’s what the extra Hi-Ether is for just wait till he dies and make sure you are out of range resummon him and finish the fight like normal.

That’s all I can think about the BCNM and it is all from experience on what I believe I sometimes did wrong and what had worked for me. I’ll also try to get a video up as soon as I can get enough seals to do it again. Any corrections you see please post and GL with the BCNM!

Fixed marco typo sorry **always try to use auto-translate**

Well i decided to try this after the update and i have already successfully soloed it. WEll i went in did buffs and stuff and summoned ramuh, astral flowed, judgement blot. Then i started to run away and about 2 seconds laters ramuhs name dissappeared at full health. Then the pugs chased me and hunted me down. I think the update chaged it because i never had ramuh die in 2 seconds...normally i have the problem of ramuh not dying.
RE: Update

um, doesnt using judgement bolt take away all your MP? leaving you with none to perpetuate the avatar with? thats what always happens to me. id imagine you have to use Hi ethers relatively fast then summon again as soon as you can.

or switch out ramuh for another avatar until his recast recharges so the fish have something else to shoot at.
