Mission Orders

To lure the Bearer of Darkness to the Full Moon Fountain, you must collect the three verses of the ancient people. As her guiding star, the Star Sibyl is counting on you to help her decide the path for Windurst's future. The fate of Windurst rests upon your shoulders!

Walkthrough

Speak to Star Sibyl after getting the mission, she asks you to collect 3 ancient song verses. They are in Ro'Maeve, Chamber of Oracles and Temple of Uggalepih.

Ro'Maeve: This one you can solo easily, just bring some sneak oils with you (even for mages) as there are magic aggros everywhere in Ro'Maeve. Once there, examine the Qu'Hua Spring at H-6, this is the first place the doll led you to in M8-1. Get the key item Ancient Verse of Ro'Maeve after a cutscene.

Chamber of Oracles: Ride to C-12 of Western Altepa Desert via a tunnel from D-11. Enter Quicksand Caves, sneak is needed throughout this area. You enter at J-11, follow the path to a door with a switch circle before it at I-9. This is weight controlled door, you'll need one Galka or two of the other races or three Tarutarus standing in center of the circle to open the door. At the T-intersection ahead turn left, go to H-7 and open another weight-operated door. Keep going and fall down at E-7 to the lower sand level. Now just hug left and you'll eventually enter the Chamber of Oracles. After a cutscene there you receive the key item Ancient Verse of Altepa.

Temple of Uggalepih: First fight Tonberry Cutters in the temple for an Uggalepih key, it's a fairly common drop. Once you have the key, start from the main entrance to the temple (I-6 of the first map), and keep hugging right until F-5 where you'll zone back into Yhoator Jungle again at H-11 of the jungle. If you don't have the map, just check your position now and then to see if you're on the right track. Only invisible is needed throughout the temple.

Once in Yhoator, walk west a bit and re-enter the temple, this is the map where coffers spawn. You start at I-5 on the map, turn right at the first T. Walk to a wood gate at H-7, drop invisible to open this. Through the gate, turn right, walk to a T at F-7 and turn left there. Head south a bit and turn right, you'll come to a door at E-8. This door needs an Uggalepih key to open. But there are tonberries in front and behind this door, and they can see through doors. So be very careful when dropping invisible to open the door, and quickly re-apply invisible afterwards. Alternatively you can bring some people with you and just kill any tonberries in the room (1 key opens the door for everyone to enter). Once in the room, examine a ??? near the 4 bookshelves down the back for the key item Ancient verse of Uggalepih.

Return to Star Sibyl with the three verses for a cutscene and your final task: a battle at Full Moon Fountain.

BCNM Details:

You're allowed to have a party of six to beat this two-part BCNM. In the first part of the fight, your party must defeat four Ace Cardians. In the second party, you must fight a manticore and a wyvern simultaneously.

The cardians are the usual BLM/WHM/RDM/PLD combo. But since you have two battles in a row, you should kill three cardians, then sleep the fourth one while you rest HP and MP. The recommended order for killing the cardians is BLM > RDM > PLD > sleep and rest > WHM. Also, save TP on the WHM for the next fight.

After defeating the last Cardian, you begin fighting the wyvern, Tatzlwurm, and the manticore, Yali. Ajido-Marujido also fights, and if he dies you lose, so have the white mage focus on keeping Ajido alive. The best strategy is to fight the Mancitore while kiting the wyvern, then kill the wyvern.

After winning the BC, head to Heavens Tower one last time for Rank 10, 100k gil and the Windurst flag. Congratulations!

Did this mission yesterday in what we thought was just a reckless attempt at rank 10. We had tried to come several times before but one person always had random problems. This time it was our ninja tank who couldnt go. Yes thats right. We won this BCNM without a tank. Our setup was:

75 MNK/WAR <- got tanking duty
75 THF/NIN <- kited wyvern
75 DRK/THF <- damage
75 BRD/WHM <- refresher and sleeper
73 SMN/WHM <- DD / healer
70 RDM/BLM (might have been /WHM) <- sleeper

It was very easy. Our monk took almost no damage until the wyvern and by then ajido had gone crazy with chainspell and killed it off. The best part of the entire fight was the 1000 damage spinning dives and asuran fists. The cardians didnt know what hit them! We ended up breaking the record by about 3 minutes on caitsith and that includes watching all the CSs. So my main point is that this BC isnt that difficult. If you have a full party of 70+ and good players you can win with less than ideal setups. GL and thank you to the rank 10s that came back to help us out ^^

The post below is correct about the second fight order, I wish I'd had time to check it instead of the walkthrough. Everybody, ignore the walkthrough's bullshjt comment that wyvern goes before manticore. No one in our party was ever in much danger, but we lost twice because Ajido pulls the manticore off of any kite you use and gets himself killed. He is not that good, not defensively.

The victory came when we split our party in half and fought both the manticore and wyvern at the same time. If you have 2 healers and your levels are high enough, this is the way to go. If not, fight whatever Ajido fights and use a kite for the other mob.

Only correction to the post below, we did Swords first in the aces fight to avoid any problems arising from Paladin sleep resistance.

Here is a new simpified battle plan ^^
for cardians-
kill order is Baton->Coins->Swords->Cups
fight plan is
Elemental seal + sleepga
kill batons
kill coins
kill swords
rest MP
kill cups and save TP

next watch the CS

now for wyvern/manticore fight:
do NOT pick a battle order simply follow Aji and fight the one he goes for.

method:
follow aji
have party worked out so someone is kiting/shadowbinding/gravitying other mob
unload everything you have on mob aji is killing
watch final CS
go back to heavens tower and get R10

cheers all

Battle Info:
Garuda Server
Runzura 68 PLD (Me)
Dranzia 68 RDM
Fargason 66 WHM
Kajax 67 DRG
Wilddragoon 67 MNK
Goolak 68 BLM

I would just like to get one thing straight, take a look our levels, most would say that is gimped for this mission, well WE WON!!! If played correctly it can easily be done with Level 66-68’s

The Cardarians went down pretty easy and we killed the WHM one last and after Benidiction we slept it and rested to full MP (This is a very good idea). Saved two hours for the Manticore / Wyvern combo and when the NPC attacks have at it! We had the RDM gravity/kite the Manticore while we killed the Wyvern; the DRG used “Ancient Circle” I’m sure this gave us a good edge on the fight. Then we owned the Manticore (Watch for paralyze). It is more involved than that but I’m only posting to give “lower levels” a smidgen of hope. We did bring HP and MP regen food for the damage dealers and the mages, everyone used appropriate food but if you have the determination and the skill you can win this BCNM. Good luck, hope this helps a little bit. ^^

Thank you to my group members, you guys rock, and congratulations on Rank 10!
*If you see any of these guys on Garuda server invite them to your party if you want a pro player, they all did a great job.

I have through another thread, I think the Ace of Coins in item look up, found out that the cards that they drop don't allow you to control but prevent the card from attacking the card holder. So my theory is to have the Blm doing the sleeping hold the cards or as many as you can procure to stop them from aggroing after they wake up. I hope this helps. Btw I have the Ace of Cups and am willing to tank a fight in order to verify my theory. I am 72 Pld at the moment and on Pandemonium server. Name is Tildarus.

Well here is a review of my battle with this BCNM/mission fight. We attempted this with quite abit of optimism as our levels were 69-72, with the tank (me) only being 71. All in all it wasn't that hard though. Also we beat it with only one 2 hour, having used them almost all of them in a previous failed attempt.

Party setup:

71 Pld - 72 Blm - 69 Blm - 71 Rdm - 72 Whm
71 Drk

The cardians are wimps. Best for the pld to run in first with Earth staff equiped (only took about 40-70 dmg with earth staff and no defender on) and gather the agro of the cardians, while black mage casts sleepga II. Blm > Rdm > Pld > Whm as per the guide, didn't have any problems sleeping the Pld. Slept and healed full on the whm. After you defeat the whm you have about 30 seconds after the cutscene ends before Ajido runs in and start wailing on the Wyvern and Manti duo. I HIGHLY recommend waiting for Ajido to attack first and follow his lead. Ajido went after the manticore twice (seems to prefer to hit this one first).

We had a real hard time sleeping the Wyvern, and so ended up kiting it with gravity (the higher level blm and rdm both were delegated this duty). The whm had to cure our kiter before he died and ended up getting stomped by the wyvern.

Thankfully between the lower level blm, me and the drk and Ajido's magic we had just defeated the Manti, and Ajido then let loose a hailstorm of magic on the wyvern, obliterating it. Ajido seems to have some -emnity, because I somehow held hate through it. Anyways a good party around 70-71 should be able to win this fight.

Couple notes:

--The Manti/Wyvern duo can dispel reraise so be careful.
--If Ajido dies it means immediate expulsion, so if things are looking bad, let him fall and you can exit out without losing exp.
--Wvyern and Manti duo are about as tough as Ladon's if I had to compare with an exp mob. I highly recommend tanking this pair with an earth staff.
--Ace Cardians are about as tough as the Queen Cardians, cept they can be slept. (They almost seemed wimpier).

I just completed this mission today with what I thought was an unusual, if not ambitious party setup :

72RDM/36BLM (me)
75RDM/37BLM
75RDM/37WHM
75WHM/37SMN
73MNK/36WAR
75PLD/37WAR

The lack of a black mage, or another DD kinda made me nervous at first, but my worries couldn't have been more unfounded. For the Cardian portion, we followed the guide for kill order. The WHM ran in and immediately silenced the Ace of Batons (BLM), while each of the 3 RDM quickly slept the other Cardians (I had to try several times, since I was assigned to the RDM cardian, and it had put up blink - sly thing). Each cardian went down very quickly without any problems. As the guide suggested, we slept the final cardian at half health (after it had used its 2-hr Benediction) and rested to full - but with 3 RDM, the downtime was minimal - while I kept it asleep/silent.

For the 2nd half, we assigned the 2 other RDM to gravity kite the Wyvern (one being the main target, the other supporting as needed) while the remaing 4 of us would try to take out the Manticore as quickly as possible. As soon as the MNK hit Hundred Fists, everything was pretty much over. I barely got through my standard buffs and a nuke before it died. We quickly turned to the Wyvern, and with all 6 focusing on it, it died in less than half a minute.

My only regret is that I didn't get to see Ajido in full action - this is the fellow who brushed off the Yagudo High Priest like a fly, complete with a "Shoo! Shoo!" We killed the 2 monsters so quickly, he had just enough time to get off 2 Bursts, one for each monster (his only two spells the entire battle) Also, our WHM had an easy job as the only times Ajido took damage was during AoE attacks.

Such a fun battle - well worth the hours of waiting and futile searching for eligible party members who could help.

Yeah.. the guy for Bastok is a pretty big wimp. And he has Enmity +1 million or something. And on top of that, Zeid is a beast who summons clones of himself and they all dance around and do level 3 skillchains on you.

Omg! Ajido is freakin sweet!

I belive the minium level requirements listed on allakhazam are more based on what level you are able to receive the quest in compare to minimal required to complete. There should be a new stats to quests but then it would be very difficult to figure out as some quests are soloable by mages of lower levels or uber soloers, or some simply require a large number of people and technically wont be pheasable.

As for the pull one at a time idea I would voucher for it but heres the problem, Time.

Hmmm I was wondering how big the Arena is for this battle. Reason being all the previous Cardian fights the NMs never linked and you could dance around them so long as sneak was active. If this holds true for this fight and the arena is big enough you could proboly try it and Carbucle pull the Cardians 1 by 1.

I hate it when missions are posted with the incorrect minimum level requirements. This mission should have been posted as MIN 70, since you can not sneak around to complete it and a major, nationality only fight is required. ><
Another Strategy for M9-2
# Dec 06 2004 at 7:27 PM Rating: Decent
Did this yesterday with the following group:

74 NIN/WAR
71 BLM/WHM
70 MNK/WAR
70 THF/NIN
70 WHM/BLM
69 RDM/WHM (me)

[actually did it again for more people with a 73 SAM instead of the MNK, and a 70 BLM instead of the 71 BLM, but same strategy both times]

The first part (Cardian battle) we did the same as everyone: Sleepga2 the mobs, then fight Batons->Coins->Swords (me and BLM keeping asleep anything that wakes up). After Swords, keep Cups asleep, rest up to full, try to have MP as full as possible when Cups dies.

Now, the Wyvern+Manticore battle gave us trouble the first 2 runs. Ajido went after the Manticore both times, but we could NOT sleep the Wyvern... both me and the BLM tried Sleep and Sleep2 and got resisted every time (my enfeeb was 268 - capped with 22 bonus, unfortunately can't use Master Caster Bracelets in Saruta region ; ;). Without the wyvern asleep, we got wiped out twice.

Eventually we figured out the way to do this was to kite the Wyvern. So, just before the Ace of Cups died, I cast Phalanx+Stoneskin+Aquaveil on myself (so it would be fresh). We go into Wyvern+Manticore fight, I Gravity the Wyvern and run back to where we entered the BCNM (the platform with the glowy bit on top). You can actually just run around this platform -- it blocks the Wyvern's view of you, so if you don't get too far ahead he will chase you round and round and not hit you (got to recast Gravity if it drops obviously). I also threw on a Dia2 for some hate, 1 of the times I also had to Cure4 someone to get him to follow me. But anyways, do this until the Manticore dies, then run the Wyvern back to the party, and its an easy finish from there.

Be careful with Ajido as well, we also lost once because he got hit for 200 then 700 in successive hits by the Manticore... must keep him at full at all times.

I just finished this mission and now I'm hearing rumors that you can't repeat the BC again later. I'd like to be able to help friends through it, so does anyone know if I can do it again (obviously not for rewards or anything)? Seems like I should be able to, as long as I go with someone who hasn't (i.e. the dragon and yagudo bc missions).

Yeah Rank 10, yeah.

you can fight it again, after u obtain rank 10. 2 parties of rank 9 cannot do the BCNM back to back. so after you fight the BCNM you cannot immediately reenter in a new party until you go back to windurst.

Erm, I'm doing this today but I am only 62 WHM and 62 SMN. Should I bring SMN ... is the buffs useful, at all? I know there will be others to compensate for my low level ...

Be warned that the buffs will not survive long in the 2nd part of the battle. All wyverns possess an AOE attack called Dispelling Wind, which removes 1-3 buffs from everyone in the area (and the area of effect is huge). Whether you bring SMN or WHM, make sure someone has the single-target Protect spells to quickly recast on the tank when Dispelling Wind comes blowing your way.

I saw that video of the 9-2 fight also. Ajido seems a hundred times more useful than Trion in the final battle, he practically kills the second mob for you with chainspell and III-IV elemental spells.

Blah, this sucks ... I really am not leveling whm for a long time though ... so 62 will be the highest it will be until SMN is 70+ ... I think as healer I can be a bit lower, but someone else will need to cast Protect IV. =( I'm one level away but I really don't want to level whm ... lol have the scroll sitting in mog house too. >.<;;

You'd wanna be lvl 70 whm at least, so you can R3 ppl in case anything goes wrong at the start. It's quite possible that the 4 cardians (particularly the BLM one) can wipe out the PT before u even get started. Happened to my PT twice, those who got killed have to d/c then re-log to get out of BC, we killed it on the 3rd go. Also if you're trying to get into a shouted-in-jeuno PT (rather than getting LS/friends help) they probably won't invite you at lvl 62. lvl 70+ SMN should be fine as main healer, just don't let anyone die.

In my fight I didn't see Ajido use chainspell, and I had him targeted on screen all the time. During the wyvern fight he casted 2 or 3 high lvl black magics, that's all.

Whew, I saw a video of this fight. Ajido is so awesome. ^^ In the video, he used Flood and Burst mainly, but when the second mob (the wyvern) was at about half health, he went crazy. He used Chainspell. The chat log, minus the PT chat and such, went something like this (there was a bit of lag).

Ajido-Marujido uses Chainspell!
Ajido-Marujido starts casting Blizzard III.
Ajido-Marujido starts casting Stone IV.
Ajido-Marujido casts Blizzard III.
The Tatzlwurm takes 473 points of damage.
Ajido-Marujido starts casting Water IV.
Ajido-Marujido casts Stone IV.
The Tatzlwurm takes 571 points of damage.
Ajido-Marujido misses the Tatzlwurm.
Ajido-Marujido casts Thunder III.
The Tatzlwurm takes 506 points of damage.
Ajido-Marujido casts Water IV.
The Tatzlwurm takes 609 points of damage.
Ajido-Marujido defeats the Tatzlwurm.

So awesome. Smiley: waycool He also had quotes for Burst and Flood. For Flood he said "You should be thankful. I'll give you a shortaru trip back to the hell you came from!" and for Burst "Play time is over! Powers of dark mana, answer my call!"

glomp @ Ajido (=^.^=)

More battle info:

Our PT had
75WAR (taru)
75RNG
75BRD
75BLM
74RDM
70WHM <- me

It's VERY important to start off the fight with Sleepga 2. Cuz the first time our 75WAR charged in to voke Batons (BLM) and got aggro by all 4 cardians, he died in 2 seconds. Next time we start by sleeping all of them, then fighting one by one, it went pretty smoothly. They didn't resist any of the sleepgas. Make sure to silence the Batons, you could just silence all 4 of them when fighting since they all can cast spells. (Baton BLM > Coin RDM > Sword PLD > Cup WHM). The cardians were very easy when fought individually with Silence in effect.

In the 2nd part, we had to fight Manticore first since Ajido decided to go after it. RDM kept the wyvern asleep with no problems. Ajido just casts high lvl black magic on the mob. He got hit only once in the fight, but one hit took off 1/4 of this life, so make sure the WHM is alert and ready to heal. I simply followed Ajido through out the 2nd fight and kept target on him. The manticore and wyvern fell pretty quickly, I think Ajido only pulled off 3-4 spells in total. The manticore did some attack that killed our RNG in one shot, other than that the 2nd half went ok.
