Summary

A mysterious character living on Purgonorgo Isle in Bibiki Bay insists that the island belongs to him. Chipmy-Popmy wants you to participate in the next "debate" over ownership, set to take place in the center of the island.

Walkthrough

After talking to Chipmy-Popmy, you need to go to the Manaclipper in Bibiki Bay. The clipper does three tours. You want the tour that goes out to Purgonorgo Isle (there is enough time between tours to buy another ticket if you're fast). Once on the Isle follow the path to H-9 near the center of the isle. There is a ???. This will pop 6 Peerifools (Mandragora type mobs). Watch for linking from other mobs in the area. Once defeated, examine the ??? again for a cutscene and the key item "Deed to Purgonorgo Isle".

Go back to Chipmy-Popmy for another cutscene. Now you need to track down one of the Mithran Trackers in Attohwa Chasm. You will need to zone into Boneyard Gully. Attohwa Chasm, even with a map, is very confusing. Fortunately, most of the tunnels are one way or have very short dead-ends. Be careful. Mobs in the center of the map (chasm/mountain area) con TW to lvl 59). Mobs in the eastern part of the map con TW-EP (most EPs are in the lower South-East corner) to lvl 59. Mobs in the western part of the map con VT-IT+ to lvl 59. You need to go through all three areas to get to the Gully.

Enter Attohwa Chasm from the Maze of Shakhrami. Follow the path to the chasm. Cross the bridge (very important) and follow the path. At (H-10) there is a dead end. Head east from this point and it will take you into the lower level eastern side of the map. Follow the mountainside north to (I-8). There is a cave to take you back into the mountain/chasm area. Follow the path (there is another dead end shortly into the area, head south not west). The path winds in all directions and takes you all over the chasm.

At (G-7) there is another dead end, head north. You will cross three bridges before you get to the end. Be very careful once you see the tunnel exit because antlions come very close to the mountain. Use Sneak/Invisible and follow the mountain north. At (F-6), there is another tunnel entrance. Follow this tunnel and cross one bridge to the Boneyard Gully zone, in the eastern part of (G-6). Once you zone, you will have another cutscene.

After the cutscene, you receive the key item, Map of Attohwa Chasm. Return to Chipmy-Popmy for another cutscene and 1200 gil.

Bibiki Bay > Purgonorgo Isle: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/areas.html?farea=170
  • Take the Manaclipper to Purgonorgo Isle
[li]Upon arrival, proceed from the Manaclipper dock to back wall of the beach (H-8) and take the SW path
  • Stay on this spiraling path to the middle of the island; it goes South West (H-8), South (G-8, G-9, G-10), East (G-10, H-10) North (H-9)
(take note of the brown splotches on the map... those are areas with a view of the sky
[li]The NPC ??? Warmachine is on the beach at G-9. You will see it again after the NMs fight.
[li]Keep travelling on the path and you will find the ??? at H-9
  • ** Please note: There are two(2) Alraune in this immediate area (H-9). Kill them first before you check the ??? or they will aggro during fight. Also, depending on length of fight, one or both will respawn.

  • Killed the two Alraune, then cast all available RDM70/BLM35 buffs and then checked the ??? to spawn six(6) Perifools
[li]They all tried to sleep me right away... so I cast sleepga on them first! I picked one and started killing it. I recast sleepga when the others woke up... sometimes they would wake altogether or one/two at a time (I waited for all to be awake before recasting sleepga)
[li]Here is when I became dismayed. I killed one Peerifool; with the other five remaining asleep... I checked the ??? again... nothing happened!
[li]Rinse and repeat! Killed #2 of 6 Peerifools (btw... one Alraune popped by this time, back to six total mobs)... all remaining mobs asleep; checked the ??? again... nothing!
[li]Rinse and repeat! Killed the remaining Peerifools... casting sleepga SEVERAL times during the fight. I converted a total of two times... recasting buffs as they wore.
(NOTE: Two Alraunes linked the fight by this time... I didn't even bother with them... focused on killing the Peerifools)

[li]After last Peerifool was dead (and the two Alraunes were asleep) I checked the ??? again and got a cutscene with the ??? Warmachine to get the key item: Deed to Purgonorgo Isle.
[li]I warped out and headed to...

You can follow the directions stated in the quest description above, or you take the following alternative route…

  • After traveling through the initial tunnel you'll get to the first bridge in the Attohwa Chasm. Here is where the alternate path begins.
  • ALTERNATE PATH:
  • Instead of crossing the bridge, turn left and travel a short distance North along the ledge (H-9 bottom center section).
[li]This will take you to another tunnel leading to the Western Area of Attohwa Chasm (H-9).
[li]Travel through and up the tunnel to the exit (G-9 Southwest section)
[li]Now take good look at the map (printout or online), see the E F G area?
    - Ensure you use sneak & invisible spells or silent oils & prism powder throughout this area.
    - Also, throughout Attohwa Chasm STAY AWAY from the cracks in the ground... or an unpleasant surprise may occur

[li] You will be traveling along the western edge of the map: starting from G-9 head Southwest, Northwest, North, Northeast... all the way to F-6 (bottom center section) where you will find another tunnel
[li] When you get to the F-6 tunnel, travel through it (Northeast & East), cross a bridge (G-6), travel through another tunnel (Northeast) and then zone (G-6) into...

    [li]Afterwards, head back to...

  • ====================

With my Enhancing at 215, I figured out a much easier way to fight these things as a RDM.

Dont' bother with Stoneskin. I'd guestimate that any RDM over 55 should be able to soak hits with Phalnyx, @ 62 they would only occasionally crit me for about 6-10. Instead of bothering with sleep, I just put up ice spikes and started wailing on them. By the time i got to the last one, he was 1/2 dead already. And yes, there are 6 pops, and they're not too tough, just mandys. Also, i got nailed with sleep a few times, so this helped keep me awake.

All in all, with 2 swords, enfire, and spikes, killing all 6 took maybe 10-15 mins solo. And i never dropped much past yellow HPs (wearing Carapace)

K i finished the mandy fight with a 73thf/nin he pretty much did everything. I (56whm) just regen and hasted him. I sat down a few times as well. then went to boneyard gully got the cutscene and all, but found black miasma there, does anyone know how to get pass it or what the pouch that taru gave me is for?

The pouch he gave you involves going to the top of Parradim Tor (or whatever the hell that huge rock is called) and going to the Cradle of Rebirth. WHen you trade the pouch to the Cradle, it gets filled with stones. When you take them back to the taru, he gives you a Miasma Filter (key item) that opens an ENM on the Dark Miasma point called "An Antlion in Sheep's Clothing." If you haven't done the map quest yet, come here to finish it and then enter the BCNM, it's an easy way to just HP back since you don't lose EXP when you die.

My boyfriend (L50 MNK/WAR) and I (L50WHM/BLM) stomped all their asses, but only barely. I wasn't expecting so many mobs, and ran out of MP before the second one died. After the first two, we survived on a Cure 3 every 2 mp tics. Like I said, only barely. =P

To be noted, the mandragora resisted my Sleep. Not saying much, considering.

So, either have a full PT, or a full-fledged blm with ES+Sleepga.

SMN68 and yesterday I solo'd them all np.

    Ramuh + Thunderspark = pwn.
I summoned ramuh once, and used a few Spirit Taker WS. Ramuh never lost his first health bar.

Just in case anyone wants to know, each of the 8 Mandys have approximately 2000HP and for Lv68 it they were hitting me/ramuh maybe 15-25% of the time. They couldn't hit for jack.

I used 5 Thunderspark Blood Pacts for about 400+ dmg each time and won. If you're on Ramuh server and you need help with killing them, /tell Tiffiewiffie and if I have time I can probably come out with ya. It was fun as hell; I liked it (=^.^=)

Wow. I decided to try this by myself as a 54THF/NIN... went in with +24 evasion, 300% TP, and plenty of Bloody Bolts. Bad idea. I got owned pretty damned fast (would've been even quicker if I hadn't used Perfect Dodge). I started off with Cyclone, and it didn't take all that much health off of them. I'd say maybe 10-15% of their health. My Utsusemi was gone before I even engaged them. They were beating my *** way too fast for Bloody Bolts to be any sort of help, even though I was draining about 80+ HP per hit (and hitting about 90% of the time). They were only hitting me for about 15-35 damage per hit, but like all Mandies, they are MNKs, which means not only do they attack twice per turn, but they can counter your attacks. Add that to the fact that there are 6 of them, and links are common... it was a nightmare. Something that I also did not see mentioned here that is rather important: their regular attacks have an additional effect: sleep. It kicked in about 3 times throughout the 1 minute or so fight. They can also use all normal mandy attacks, including the dreaded Dream Flower. x_x

Anyway, don't underestimate these guys. And make sure you have someone with Sleepga or Horde Lullaby. :P

Myself 61 War/Nin, a 58 wht and a 52 Pld did the first fight. Not to hard but a bit of a challenge. We has two pops that tried to help the blacks - we just ignored them until the bigger one where dead.

my party beat the Mandies as:

    51THF/NIN
    51MNK/WAR
    51DRG/WHM

Both the MNK and THF (Me) built up 300% before we started. When we hit the ??? we both started with spinning attack and Cyclone. We focused on a single mandy from there and would hit our AOE WS when we had it. I had to use Perfect dodge and the DRG basically acted as a healer. No one was ever in the red. I was also using bloody bolts to heal myself. It was a fun fight!!

I duo-ed this with another Rdm. Niether of us u sed sleepaga. Blink was pretty much worthless. I had five or six mandies beating on me with Phalanx + Stoneskin + Ice Spikes (we had adds). I would suggest letting the Pld tank only one at a time. You can either tank the others or sleepaga them.

I'm seeing here a lot of solo fights against these 6 mandies. Mostly I see either rngs, rdms, etc soloing these according to this forum. As for the 60+ rdm's soloing, are they subbing blm for sleepaga? Reason I ask is that I'm planning on doing this with a 67 pld/war and myself (a 72ish rdm/smn). I'm guessing we can do it, we're just have to sleep 2 at a time (Sleep 1 and 2). Y'know.. just wonderin'.

If you have two people 60+ and lose, I think it'd be pretty sad. ^^; The mandragoras are like level 40 or less. I(war/monk at the time) tanked them right when the area was released and I was only like 56 or so at the time. I had a whm with me of the same level. We cut them down without trouble.

Unless maybe you had two whms trying to melee, or something. I think it should be no problem. Have the paladin examine it, then all the mandragoras will be on him. As long as you don't engage the others and only engage the one he fights, they'll stay on him.

Redmage 72 could also solo this, I would assume. You're not going to take much damage either, although the paladin should take less I'd imagine.

Just finished solo'ing the mandies as 61 rng. Used pretty much AF gear except hairpin instead of hat plus a life belt and drone earrings to max evasion (my evasion is capped for my level), a persikos au lait for HP regen, shallots for def food and mainly bloody bolts. Out of 960 HP I never dropped below 800. Ya gotta love those status bolts. I used almost a full stack of bloody bolts.

Ok I can confirm that a RDM60 can solo this without any problem. It'll take 35 or so minutes but it's way doable. On a side note don't bother killing the two alarunes till you are down to your last of the 6 mandies. I cleard them out. then when they poped and agroed, I killed them again, then they poped and agroed a 2nd time, meaning I had to kill 10 mandies in 1 fight. (never more than 7 simultaneously but still). having done it once if I had to do it again I wouln't even bother clearing out the two agro mandies. prety pointless since they will re-spawn and agro anyways.

Incidentaly it's Tiamat, not Tiamet and it's 1200 gil not 2100. But at this level are we doing this for the gil??? nope, for the map damn it :P

    Just fought the Mandies!

Me a THF/NIN 59 and a SAM/WAR 59 killed em with ease. I was the tank going into battle armed with Utsumi and a Fish Chefkabob and 300% TP. I used Cyclone and went to town. I have everybit of evasion gear I owened on and was fun. everytime I got 100% TP I would use Cyclone. We killed the Mandies in no time flat.

Now to do the 2nd parts of it. Sounds easy enuff.

BEB have a marked up map that shows the tunnels and bridges in the Chasm. The route described may be the safest, since it spends most of its time in tunnels where the highest level mobs are 35-38 Hecteyes, but it looks like it might be faster to just take the western exit in G-9 and Sneak up along the mountainside there to F-6.

Note that I haven't actually tried this; while I did Sneak between the F-6 and G-9 tunnels on my way back from the Gully, I wasn't following the mountain wall, I was exploring (and found a new Corse NM, Xolotl).

LOL this fight was fun. Me (RDM lvl 56) and my RDM lvl 56 counterpart did this last night. We weren’t even ready for the fight: no buffs, no food, and my MP wasn’t full. We spawned the mandies and after a ‘/p ahhhh!’ started buffing up. We cast Sleep II on them as we could (no sleepga at our lvl) and started going on them one at a time. At first we were doing Shining Blade > Burning Blade > Firaga, but the bit of aga damage on the other mandies wasn’t worth waking them up, so we switched to Fire II. We both used convert during the fight, and also had the two added mandies from the area. We kept each other refreshed and got down to two NM mandies and the two adds when we were pretty much out of MP. We had enough to keep them slept but finished the battle with buffs fallen off and just skillchained them to death.
What fun! He was saying his wife was watching the battle saying ‘Warp! Warp out! You’re going to die!’ Hehe she and we were amazed we were still standing. If we had been prepared for the fight it would have been a cake walk, but where is the fun in that? =D

So basically, FYI: Two lvl 56 RDMs can do this battle no problem. Have fun!

I soloed this as a 63RDM/BLM. I had 6 black mandies spawn and had 2 links. My original strategy was to sleepga the mandies but after I killed the 3rd one, Sleepga lost all of its effectiveness. It didn't matter as I didn't take any damage during the entire fight. (Even when I let Stoneskin and/or Phalanx wear off during the fight. I don't know if they were ever both off at the same time, but I know I never took any damage. I also popped a Fish Mithkabob as well)

I just soloed the mandy as a 61DRG/31RDM, I had to heal about 2000HP total.
I would suggest a very effective method to heal HP if you plan to solo those, and not under 60.They may hit for only 10, but mandy have double attack and you beat 6 at a time(8 if the other mandy link)

Just beat these guys with a 65 BLM/whm and a 65 THF/nin (me). Very easy, they were only hitting me for 10-20 per hit, and missed a ton.

We started the battle with me at 300% TP, and i used Cyclone (AOE WS) to take hate. The BLM casted Sleepaga and buffs, then rested until they woke up. I worked away at them one at a time, and if the BLM ever got hate for a Sleepaga, Cyclone got it all back ^^ Oh, and any Alraune's that popped during the battle do link. At the end the BLM was down to 100 mp, and used Manafont to finish them off.. but we could have easily won without 2hrs. The battle took about 10 mins total.... hope this helps ^^
